OnePlus has been a very successful smartphone company in India. It has time and again come out with fantastic products and made them fairly cheaper than what the market anticipated. Now OnePlus has become the top premium smartphone brand in India beating the likes of Apple and Samsung. It is not the first time this has happened though. OnePlus was the top-selling premium smartphone brand in India back in 2019 as well. The smartphone manufacturer sold over 2 million units last year and also became the first premium smartphone brand to ever do so. It has done it again in the Q2 of 2020.

OnePlus India's Top Selling Smartphone Brand, Captures 29.3% Market Share

As per research by Counterpoint Analysis, OnePlus captured 29.3% of the Indian market share which was more than any other premium smartphone brand in the market in Q2 of 2020. The OnePlus 8 series 5G was a huge success and it contributed to the rise of OnePlus.

Out of all the premium devices, OnePlus 8 became the top smartphone capturing 19% of the market share. Its counterpart, the OnePlus 8 Pro, which comes in the ultra-premium smartphone segment made its position in the top 3 ultra-premium smartphones in the country.

Vikas Agrawal, General Manager, OnePlus India said, "This year has been a year of new learnings and new beginnings for us at OnePlus. And it has driven us to relentlessly focus on bringing excellent technology to our community. As a brand, we are grateful to our India community for their sincere faith in our efforts. Research Analyst Shilpi Jain, Counterpoint Research said that OnePlus 8 series 5G got the benefit of momentum that OnePlus 7 series had made. Along with that, strong build quality, exemplary design with a larger battery and an impressive Android UI (OxygenOS 10) helped the product make a case for itself. Even though this flagship from OnePlus came at a much higher price than what people generally expect from the company, people still trusted the brand to deliver and it did.

Bharti Airtel is the second-largest telecom operator in India. The telco has made its space in the telecom market as it offers a variety of plans and added benefits to its customers to give them seamless connectivity and hassle-free experience. Recently, Bharti Airtel beat its core competitor Reliance Jio and reported Rs 157 ARPU. Now, Bharti Airtel has teamed up with a global beverage and snack brand PepsiCo Inc for a new campaign which will offer Airtel prepaid customers a chance to win 2GB free data in the form of data coupons while buying selected PepsiCo snacks and beverages.

How to Win 2GB Free Data?

Airtel prepaid customers with any unique number will be able to avail the offer 3 times maximum through the use of different codes which they will get on every promotional pack of PepsiCo products like Lays Chips, Doritos and Kurkure. The inner side of the promotional pack will carry a 12 digit Airtel Promo code which has to be claimed from the My Coupons section in the Airtel Thanks app. Airtel prepaid customers must note that the amount of free data available will depend upon the MRP of the packet purchased.

Applicable PepsiCo Products

The unique code will be available in four different products of the PepsiCo brand, which are Lays Chips, Kurkure, Doritos and Uncle Chips. Also, customers will be able to see the code in both Rs 10 and Rs 20 variant of the products. Airtel prepaid customers must also note that all the products which are under the offer will be available without a promo offer. So, they must ensure that the product they are purchasing has a promo offer.

Promo Offer Availablity and Conditions

The new campaign offer of Airtel and PepsiCo will start from August 03, 2020, and it will continue till January 31, 2020. Once the customers have claimed code, the data will be made available till January 31, 2020, and can be redeemed at any point before that. Also, customers must note that the free data will be available for 3 days, including the day of redemption.

25 years back, on this very date, the first mobile call was made in India. To mark the special date, COAI and Department of Telecommunications (DoT) organised an online event. The event was named 'Desh Ki Digital Udaan'. Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi congratulated the industry via a written letter. There were key messages from many important figures from the telecom industry. Dr Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Airtel and Mr Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited also shared some of their thoughts. Ambani asked for 2G to be made a part of history while Mittal called for the review of telecom sector's current rules.

Mukesh Ambani Says 'Necessary Policy Steps' Required to Remove 2G

Ambani addressed in his note that while the world is shifting towards 5G technology and connectivity, there are still 300 million customers who use 2G connectivity. There are multiple factors behind why this is the case. These people do not get the same exposure to the world and it is unfair to them. Ambani urged that necessary policy steps have to be taken to make 2G a part of history in India and it should be done with utmost urgency.

Ambani also said that Jio has made and is continuing to make a significant contribution in India's Digital Udaan. In less than four years of starting its services, Reliance Jio has become the number one telco in India in terms of subscriber count. The telco reported a subscriber count of 398.3 million users and a net profit of Rs 2,520 crore in Q1'21.

Sunil Bharti Mittal Asks for Review of Telecom Sector

Mittal stressed the importance of giving due attention to the needs of the telecom sector. He believes that the taxes levied on the industry are unreasonably high. Bharti Airtel reported a net loss of Rs 15,933 crore in Q1,21 because of paying the AGR dues.

Mittal said, "It is important that this is reviewed thoroughly and telecommunication resources like spectrum and levies should not become a source for the exchequer but should become a force multiplier in ensuring that the economic momentum becomes faster and gets accelerated. So the government can earn its dues from other Industries who are going to be riding on the back of this wonderful industry."
