Almost every university and the schools have now adopted the online mode of teaching to their students. Google, one of the biggest tech companies in the world keeps working on new products and solutions to solve people's everyday problem. To make online studying an easier process, Google launched Google Classroom. The basic aim of the app is to help students and teacher to communicate easily, submit assignments, and grade them. In a new update, Google has equipped the Google Classroom with multiple Indian languages now. This was confirmed by Google in a blog post. There are more features coming to the app that you should know about.

Google Classroom to Allow Monitoring of Up to 49 Students at a Time

One of the biggest challenges for a teacher while teaching is to ensure that the student is not distracted and understanding what he/she is trying to teach. But it becomes a little hard when the class is conducted through an online platform. But with the Google Classroom, it is possible for the teacher to monitor up to 49 students at a time. The larger tiled view with a grid of 7 x 7 will allow a total of 49 tiles in the screen. Along with that, the teacher can use the Jamboard inside Meet in case they want the students to share their ideas as well. Both the 7 x 7 tiles feature and Jamboard will be integrated with the app later in September.

Along with that, one of the major updates that have been introduced in the Google Classroom is the addition of multiple Indian languages. Bengali, Telugu, Urdu, Marathi, and Tamil have been added to the Google Classroom but the feature is not yet launched so the users will have to wait for a little more time to see the support of more languages.

One feature that most of the teachers have been waiting for to see in the Google Classroom is Student Engagement Metrics. It will help the teachers and institutions to track how much a student is interacting with the online class. Google will be bringing more features to the Classroom app to make it a better experience of learning and teaching online for students and teachers.

bharti-airtel-pan-india-plans-franchise-player

Bharti Airtel has revised its Airtel Xstream Fiber plans in cities where the company offers its services through the franchise tie-ups with Local Cable Operator (LCO). The company in its first-quarter report for the period ended June 30, 2020 said that LCO model is live in 14 cities across India. The Airtel Xstream Fiber users in the LCO cities were earlier offered advance rental packs with the plans carrying speeds in the range of 16 Mbps to 300 Mbps. Further, the advance rental plans carried price tags in the range of Rs 599 to Rs 1599. Comparatively, the cities where the company offers its Airtel Xstream Fiber services directly were offered speeds in the range of 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps with the plans priced in the range of Rs 799 to Rs 3999.

Airtel Revises Xstream Fiber Plans in LCO Cities

The company now offers pan India plans in the cities where it earlier offered advance rental plans. However, Airtel does not offer the 1 Gbps plan in the cities where it offers its Xstream Fiber services through LCO players.

Airtel had earlier offered the advance rental plans in Alwar, Bareilly, Dehradun, Jammu, Katra, Nashik, Prayagraj, Rajahmundry and Sikar. In late June and early July, the company had expanded its advance rental plans to several cities including Gorakhpur, Jagadhari, Jhansi, Jodhpur, Kakinada, Kolhapur, Shimla, Thanjavur and Yamunanagar.

It has to be noted that Airtel currently offers four pan-India plans namely Basic, Entertainment, Premium and VIP. The Basic plan enables users to browse up to 100 Mbps speed till 150GB data for Rs 799 per month. The Entertainment plan at Rs 999 per month enables users to browse up to 200 Mbps speed till 300GB.

The Premium plan at Rs 1499 per month enables users to browse up to 300 Mbps speed till 500GB. The top-tier VIP plan enables users to browse up to 1 Gbps speed with no data limits for Rs 3999 per month.

Airtel to Expand LCO Model to More Cities in the Near Future

Gopal Vittal, managing director and CEO of Bharti Airtel for India and South Asia region, said in the first-quarter earnings call that Airtel is "excited" about the LCO model.

"So we have a standard toolkit where we are able to go out and actually work with the local cable operator in a particular town," Vittal said in the earnings call for the period ended June 30, 2020. "And we give them a revenue share for basically laying the last-mile fiber, maintaining it, and everything else that is done on it, whether it is the router, it is the billing system, it is the plan, it is the customer relationship, all of it is managed by Airtel."

Vittal added that the LCO manages the last mile fiber and thus receives a revenue share from the partnership.

"We have, like I said, a standard blueprint around and there have been several lessons that we have learned over the last nine to 12 months on how to actually master that blueprint to onboard these partners in a digital way so that they can get going and build their business," Vittal said in the earnings call on July 30, 2020.

Vittal added that the LCO model is an "opportunity for entrepreneurs" to earn money with Airtel but at the same time "serve customers."

"We do it at a much lower cost because the nature of the geographies that we cover outside the top 50 cities are very different," Vittal said. "The buildings and the housing is more flatbeds and more distributed. And so for us to do it ourselves, would require a lot more investment, and it would be a far more challenged business model [sic]."

Vittal said that the company was able to get a "very good traction" with the LCO model due to the "lower investment."

"We are now accelerating this quite rapidly because we believe that we have cracked the model, so it will start expanding over the next six to 12 months," Vittal said.

It was said in the earnings call that the company believes that "there is a massive opportunity in smaller towns across India" in the home broadband segment.

"We are therefore doubling down on our partnership with local cable operators in such towns," Vittal said.

vivaldi-android-browser-enhanced-tracker

Vivaldi on Wednesday announced that its Android browser has been updated to version 3.2 featuring enhancements to its integrated tracker and ad blocker. The company said that the users can "enable and manage more blocking lists" while creating their own custom list of websites to block or unblock while browsing online. Vivaldi also said that it has moved more functionality on its Android browser to the bottom of the screen "for easier one-handed access." The Vivaldi web browser for desktop was initially launched in 2016 by former Opera CEO Jon von Tetzchner with the company introducing its Android variant in April 2020 following months of testing.

Vivaldi Updates its Android Browser to Version 3.2

The company said that the update released on Wednesday enables users to select "more blocking lists in Vivaldi" along with the ability to create custom lists.

"This is because we believe that you should always have the final say – how you want websites to display and what you want websites to know about you should be ultimately your choice," Vivaldi said on Wednesday.

Vivaldi said that the series of preinstalled blocking lists and sources in the browser provides users more choice with the ability to enable or disable "with a simple tick." The browser now also enables users to opt for an "country-specific listed source" depending on the region of the user or their preference.

The company said that the tracker and ad blocker emerged as the most requested feature ever since Vivaldi launched the first beta of its Android browser in September 2019.

"The number of web trackers has skyrocketed," Vivaldi said on Wednesday. "And is still on the rise. Many of you want to limit unnecessary tracking and want a cleaner, faster web without trackers and ads."

Vivaldi said that the "sheer scale" web tracking and data collection had resulted in the company to launch its Android browser with an built-in tracker and ad blocker. The company said that its integration solution featuring tracker and ad blocker enables users to protect from the "ubiquitous trackers and unwanted ads."

The tracker and ad blocker solution on the Vivaldi Android browser can be enabled or disabled for websites through the shield icon in the address bar. However, the users also have the ability to change the blocking levels and functionality for all the websites in the browser settings.

Vivaldi Android Browser Now Features More Functionality at the Bottom

The company said that the updated browser features open, private, recently closed and synced tab buttons at the bottom of the screen. Vivaldi said that the "bottom of the screen" is easier for users to reach especially those on the large screens.

“You'll find this enhancement useful as many of you rely on one-handed access to the main functions of the browser when browsing on your mobile devices," Vivaldi said. "Our aim is to put all the navigation bars at the bottom so that the key functionality is just a thumb away."

The company highlighted that it had already moved several functionality of the browser including the bookmarks, switching between Panel functions, history, notes and download to the bottom of the interface.

Vivaldi said that the Tab Strip feature that enables users to view desktop style tabs on the browser has been renamed to Tab Bar, providing uniformity in addressing features across desktop and mobile variants. The Tab Bar is said to be now enabled by default providing users an option to view, open and switch tabs just like the desktop browser. However, Vivaldi said that the Tab Bar can be disabled on the browser settings.

Additionally, the company said that the background theme on the Speed Dial now changes to dark mode with the new update on its Android variant. Further, the users starting the browser in the landscape mode will not notice the bottom bar offering users more screen space. Vivaldi also said that the sync settings will now display the profile picture of the users when they log in. Crucially, the company highlighted that its "copy to note" feature will be "glitch-free" for users experiencing difficulties as Vivaldi has delivered a "big stability fix."

Online connectivity has become of supreme importance. Without it, most of our activities would come to a halt. To ensure that our lives never slow down, we need a stable and fast internet connection. But that is only possible if you have wired fiber broadband connection. Broadband internet has a flaw though. You can't really take it with you outside your home or office. On the outside, you have to rely on your mobile network provider for the internet which is most of the time quite slow due to either data congestion or network throttling by the service provider. But the future of broadband internet can be wireless mesh networks. They don't require a wired connection and can be set-up in any part of the city without any huge cost.

Wireless Mesh Network is Truly Wireless

When we say wireless broadband connection or internet, it is not truly wireless. It is connected to a fixed-line network and with the help of a router, it distributes signals nearby. That is why you cannot carry it with you anywhere. But the mesh networks are truly wireless because they do not require to be wired throughout for providing data.

Wireless mesh networks rely on nodes which communicate with each other wirelessly and therefore are able to transmit data through each other. The good thing about these nodes is that they are comparatively cheaper to set-up than network towers. Adding to that, one network could be connected to hundreds of nodes.

The wireless mesh nodes are basically radio transmitters sending internet signals through each other. They use the common Wi-Fi standards – 802.11a, g, and b. An interesting thing to know about these mesh nodes is that they are very smart in communicating. So in case, there is a network failure or any problem in any of the nodes, the remaining nodes will figure it out and will start communicating with the node which has the best network signal nearby them.

But the origin of the network is through one router which is connected to a fixed-line. The primary router then starts sending the signal to the nodes nearby and then those nodes communicate the signals even further. This kind of network can be good for a whole city as well as a small office. It all depends on the number of nodes that are being set-up and the kind of internet speed that is being provided to the primary router.

Since there is lesser wire in setting up this connection, it means that the overall cost for setting up the internet connection would be lesser as well. The nodes are self-configuring, there is no network administrator required. Another great thing about the wireless mesh nodes is that they are very easy to install and very easy to uninstall. It could be done with a minimal man force and thus would even save more costs.
