The Supreme Court on Friday had postponed the hearing of the AGR dues case of telcos to today. One thing that has become clear from all the past hearings is that there is no way that Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea Limited's (VIL) request of reassessment of AGR dues is going to be entertained by the apex court. SC will only decide on the period at which the dues needs to be cleared by the telcos. In the earlier hearing, the SC posed a question that why shouldn't Jio be paying the AGR dues as well if it has been using the spectrum of RCom? To this, the representative of Jio had replied that they have a contract with RCom for the sharing of spectrum and thus are only liable to pay the spectrum usage charges which they have. One of the remaining matters which was still at the SC's hand was to determine whether the spectrum of a company under IBC can be sold or not? Read ahead to find out the updates from the hearing today. Jio Says there is No Legal Basis for Transferring Bankrupt RCom's DuesSC said if Jio is earning revenues from the 800 MHz shared spectrum of insolvent RCom, then why should it be left out when the time of paying AGR dues is concerned? Jio in a written submission to SC today said that there is no legal basis for transferring the bankrupt RCom's dues or AGR to Jio since both the companies shared was a spectrum sharing agreement. The spectrum sharing agreement does not say that the companies will have to share their liabilities. Harish Salve, the lawyer representing Jio said that the company is not in any way involved in the IBC or insolvency proceedings of the bankrupt RCom. MCA Believes the Spectrum is a Company Asset Which Can be SoldMinistry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) said that it believes that spectrum is a company asset. Not only MCA but also the State Bank of India (SBI) believes that spectrum is an asset of the company. But the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) doesn't believe that. DoT says that the spectrum is government property, it is of the people of the nation and hence it can't be sold. The SC sided with the definition of DoT only. SC had asked if the companies can sell spectrum during the IBC proceedings or not, to which the legal experts believe that until and unless the past dues associated with the spectrum aren't cleared, the transfer of spectrum is not allowed. DoT, however, can do as it pleases with the spectrum. Even when the dues are not clear, DoT can put the spectrum airwaves for auction anytime it wants. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that each village across India will be connected with optical fibre cable (OFC) in the next 1000 days. Modi in his address on the occasion of 74th Independence Day highlighted that only 60 panchayats across India were connected with OFC prior to 2014. However, Modi said that nearly 1.5 lakh gram panchayats across the country have received OFC connectivity in the last five years. Modi said that it was essential that rural India is also connected under Digital India during these changing times. Modi Promises to Connect Villages Across India in 1000 DaysModi said that the government will connect over six lakh villages across India with an optical fibre network. "There is a surge in the demand of online facilities among the rural population," Modi said in his Independence day address. The prime minister said that "thousands and lakhs of kilometres" of OFC would be laid down across India connecting over six lakh villages. "As the requirements have changed, so have our priorities," Modi said. "We have decided that within 1000 days, we will complete the work of connecting over six lakhs villages with optical fibre." Ravi Shankar Prasad, minister for Electronics and IT, Communications said in a tweet on Saturday that the development is a "game changer" for the Digital India initiative. Modi Announces OFC Connectivity to LakshadweepModi also announced that Lakshadweep will also be connected with submarine optical fibre cable connectivity in the next 1000 days. “We have around 1,300 islands. Keeping in mind their geographical location and their significance in the development of the nation, work to begin new projects in some of these islands is underway," Modi said. It has to be noted that Modi on August 10, 2020 inaugurated the submarine optical fibre cable connectivity between Chennai and Andaman and Nicobar Islands (CANI projects). The foundation stone for the 2300 Km long CANI project was laid on December 30, 2018. "We have chosen some islands for rapid development," Modi said. "Recently, we connected Andaman and Nicobar Islands with an undersea cable for a better internet. Next, we will connect Lakshadweep.” It was said that the CANI project will deliver 2×200 Gbps between Chennai and Port Blair along with 2×100 Gbps between Port Blair and other islands. | 50 Mbps Plans from BSNL, Connect Broadband, Netplus and Foxcell Posted: 17 Aug 2020 05:16 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/50-mbps-plans-bsnl-netplus-others/290861/, 50 Mbps Plans from BSNL, Connect Broadband, Netplus and Foxcell
People are over 4G speeds offered in India already. They need something faster and that is why they rely on fiber broadband plans from different operators. A lot of operators have come to the market offering high broadband speeds using fiber technology. Some of the common names of providers are BSNL, Airtel, and Jio. One of the plans which a lot of people are looking for is a 50 Mbps internet speed plan. Telcos such as BSNL, Netplus, Connect Broadband, Netplus, and Foxcell provide their users with 50 Mbps speed plans. But it is not the same with Bharti Airtel and Jio. Airtel and Jio both provide their base plans with 100 Mbps speed. It is worth mentioning that some of the 50 Mbps plans are priced more expensive than what Airtel and Jio offer their 100 Mbps speed plan for. Airtel Xstream Fiber offers 100 Mbps speed plan for Rs 799 (exclusive of 18% GST) and JioFiber offers its base plan of 100 Mbps for Rs 699 (exclusive of 18% GST). Let's take a look at 50 Mbps plans from BSNL, Connect Broadband, Netplus, and Foxcell. BSNLBSNL very recently launched its 50 Mbps fiber plans in Punjab circle. There are a total of 3 plans which offer 50 Mbps speed. The first plan is '200GB CS111 Monthly' and it offers 200GB data to users at 50 Mbps speed. After the 200GB is exhausted, users can continue browsing at 4 Mbps speed. It is priced at Rs 490. The second plan is '300GB CS112 Monthly'. It comes with 300GB monthly data at 50 Mbps speed and post FUP limit the speed reduces to 4 Mbps. It is priced at Rs 590. There is another broadband plan which offers a similar benefit to this plan in the Punjab circle which is the 'Superstar 300GB' plan. It comes for Rs 749. The only difference is that after exhaustion of 300GB data, the speed reduces to 2 Mbps in the Superstar 300GB plan. The third plan is 'PUN 400GB Monthly' and it offers 400GB data every month at 50 Mbps speed. Post exhaustion of the FUP limit of data, users can continue browsing at 4 Mbps. The only difference between the 400GB plan and the 300GB and 200GB plan is that the 400GB plan offers unlimited voice calling whereas the others don't. Connect BroadbandConnect Broadband has also become one of the major internet service providers (ISP) of the country and it also provides 50 Mbps speed plans. There are a total of 6 broadband plans which Connect Broadband provides with 50 Mbps speed. The base plan costs Rs 599 and offers 100GB data at 50 Mbps speed. There is no free calling included with this one and post FUP limit, the internet speed will be reduced to 10 Mbps. The Rs 649 plan also comes with the same 100GB data at 50 Mbps speed. But there is unlimited calling included in this one and post FUP limit, the speed will be reduced to 10 Mbps. The Rs 699 plan comes with 200GB of data at 50 Mbps speed. Once the FUP limit is reached, the internet speed is capped at 10 Mbps. There is unlimited calling included with the plan as well. Coming to the next plan, it costs Rs 799 and offers 350GB data at 50 Mbps speed. Post FUP limit, the internet speed is reduced to 20 Mbps. There is unlimited calling available, as well as 1 free anti-virus key is provided. The Rs 999 plan comes with 550GB data at 50 Mbps speed. One thing that the user will notice with the Connect Broadband plans is the increasing trend of internet speed post FUP limit is reached with each of the more expensive plans. With this one, the customer can continue browsing at 30 Mbps once the FUP limit is exhausted. There is unlimited calling along with 1 free anti-virus key included. The last 50 Mbps internet plan comes for Rs 1,299 and offers 1,000GB data. Post FUP limit, the customer can continue browsing at 40 Mbps speed. The customer also gets unlimited calling along with 1 free key of anti-virus. Netplus BroadbandNetplus is a growing internet service provider (ISP) in India and it offers a range of internet plans. Customers can even get a 1 Gbps broadband plan from the ISP. Netplus offers only one broadband plan with 50 Mbps speed. Its name is 'TRULY UL 50+ 599'. It is priced at Rs 599 and it offers customers in Punjab unlimited data. There are no other broadband plans from Netplus which offer 50 Mbps speed. FoxcellFoxcell is again a growing ISP in India. Customers can choose between monthly and quarterly plans from the ISP. The monthly broadband plan which Foxcell offers with 50 Mbps speed comes with unlimited data. But it is not cheap. It costs Rs 1,062 (inclusive of GST). Then the customer can also opt the 50 Mbps speed plan for a quarter. The quarterly plan though will come with a data FUP limit of 600GB post which the internet speed will be reduced to 4 Mbps. It will cost Rs 2,835 (inclusive of GST). Telegram, the messaging app that promises to focus on speed and security on Friday introduced the video calling facility on the platform. The company with over 400 million users on its platform said that the video calls on Telegram supports picture-in-picture mode, similar to other video content on the platform. Telegram said that the picture-in-picture mode enables users to "scroll through chats and multitask while maintaining eye contact." The company said that the "alpha version" of the video calling facility is currently enabled on both Android and iOS. Telegram Video Calls Support End-to-End EncryptionTelegram said that the users can start a video call from a contact's profile page. The users are also provided the ability to switch video on or off during voice calls. The company said that the video calls on its platform are protected with end-to-end encryption. The end-to-end encryption ensures that conversations are protected with no access to anyone including that of a company and is found on platforms like WhatsApp and Signal. Telegram said that the users can confirm their connection by comparing the four emoji shown on-screen with their chat partner. "If they match, your call is 100% secured by time-tested encryption also used in Telegram’s Secret Chats and Voice Calls," Telegram said in a release. The company said that the video calling facility on its platform would receive more improvements in the future versions. The group video calls feature is also said to be introduced on the platform in the "coming months." Zoom Faced Scrutiny for Not offering End-to-End EncryptionIn late March, Zoom was under the spotlight as a research report revealed that the app does not support end-to-end encryption even as Zoom on its website stated that it supported such a protocol. In a separate report, it was revealed that the Zoom app on iOS was leaking information to Facebook such as a user's time zone and city and details about the user’s device. The developers of Zoom on April 1, 2020, highlighted that the company would focus on enhancing security and privacy features. In mid-June, Zoom announced that the end-to-end encryption will finally make its debut on the platform with the company initially rolling out the feature as a beta update to all users. In late April, Mozilla Foundation, the company behind the Firefox browser compared 15 popular video calling apps including FaceTime, Duo, WhatsApp and Skype on their security parameters. Mozilla Foundation said that three of the 15 apps failed to meet its minimum security standards while other apps were found to not offer end-to-end encryption by default including Messenger app and Skype. It has to be noted that the prime competitor for Telegram, WhatsApp offers both end-to-end encryption and group video calling facility. WhatsApp received a five on five security rating from the Mozilla Foundation. However, Mozilla highlighted that WhatsApp is "owned by Facebook which means Facebook can access the personal data WhatsApp collects on you, which is bad for your privacy." | Bharti Airtel Rs 129 and Rs 199 Prepaid Plans Now Available Across India Posted: 16 Aug 2020 11:15 PM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/airtel-rs129-rs199-plans-availability/290808/, Bharti Airtel Rs 129 and Rs 199 Prepaid Plans Now Available Across India
Bharti Airtel continues to expand the availability of its entry-level prepaid plans- Rs 129 and Rs 199. The Rs 129 and Rs 199 prepaid plans from Airtel are now available across all the telecom circles in India. Introduced in May this year, the Rs 129 and Rs 199 plans were limited to only a few circles. However, Airtel has now made the plans available in every circle, alongside the likes of Rs 149, Rs 179, Rs 249 and more. However, the company’s base unlimited combo plan of Rs 99 continues to be limited to a few circles. It is still unknown when Airtel will launch the Rs 99 plan across India. Airtel Rs 129 and Rs 199 Prepaid Plans: What Do They Offer?Starting with the Rs 129 prepaid plan, it ships with unlimited voice calling, 1GB of data and 300 SMSes for a period of 24 days. Additional benefits of the plan include free Hellotunes, Wynk Music and Airtel Xstream App subscription for the entire validity period. Airtel Xstream app is currently offering over 350 Live TV channels for free to the subscribers. For the unaware, the Rs 129 prepaid plan also offers similar benefits as the Rs 99 prepaid pack, but the validity of the latter is just 18 days from the date of recharge. Moving onto the Rs 199 prepaid recharge, it offers a user 1GB of data per day, unlimited voice calling and 100 SMSes per day for 24 days. Overall, users get a total of 24GB of data with the Rs 199 pack. As mentioned, both the Rs 129 and Rs 199 prepaid plans will now be available across all the circles in India. Reliance Jio also has a Rs 129 prepaid recharge with benefits of 2GB data, unlimited on-net voice calling, 1,000 non-Jio FUP minutes and 300 SMSes for 28 days. If compared, Reliance Jio leads the race with better validity and more data benefit when compared to Airtel’s Rs 129 plan. However, Bharti Airtel is offering unlimited voice calling without any FUP limit to the subscribers. | Reliance Jio No Longer Offering Unlimited JioTunes Subscription via JioSaavn Posted: 16 Aug 2020 09:37 PM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/jiosaavn-unlimited-song-change-benefit/290798/, Reliance Jio No Longer Offering Unlimited JioTunes Subscription via JioSaavn
Reliance Jio seems to have stopped offered unlimited JioTunes subscription via its music app JioSaavn. To recall, the Mukesh Ambani-led telco used to provide JioTunes subscription at no extra cost to the subscribers as they are already paying an annual fee of Rs 99 for JioPrime. As per the latest update, Reliance Jio customers are being asked to pay Rs 99 for unlimited song changes per month on JioSaavn app. Basically, the telecom operator wants its subscribers to upgrade to ‘JioSaavn Pro’ at a monthly price of Rs 99 to avail the unlimited JioTune changes benefit. This is something interesting. In Twitter, Reliance Jio confirmed that the users can still avail unlimited JioTune changes via MyJio app, but if they want to avail the same via JioSaavn, there will be subscription charges on a monthly basis. Jio Customers are Being Notified to Purchase JioSaavn Pro SubscriptionWe have often termed Reliance Jio as the ‘trendsetter’ in the Indian telecom market. Even by providing unlimited ‘JioTune’ subscription, the company had forced other telcos to offer the same for free. Explaining the new development in detail, Reliance Jio will no longer be providing free unlimited JioTune song changes via JioSaavn app. Users setting JioTunes from JioSaavn will be limited to just one song per month. This comes as a major setback as setting or changing JioTune in JioSaavn app has been hassle-free. If the customers still want to avail the unlimited song changes benefit via JioSaavn app, they will have to purchase the ‘JioSaavn Pro’ subscription worth Rs 99 every month. ![]() Do make a note that Reliance Jio did not completely make the JioTunes subscription premium. Instead, on Twitter, it states that the customers can avail unlimited JioTune changes benefit via MyJio app. Also, one JioTune subscription every month will be available for free to every subscriber of Reliance Jio via JioSaavn app. “Hi! JioTunes is currently being offered free of cost to Jio customers. You can set or change your JioTune any number of times using MyJio app. If you are using JioSaavn app to set JioTune, then only one JioTune per month is free. You need to upgrade to JioSaavn Pro, to set unlimited JioTunes in a month, using JioSaavn,” confirmed the telco to a customer raising the concern on Twitter. Reliance Jio customers who are using JioSaavn app for making JioTune changes can now shift to MyJio to do the same for free. The feature can be found inside the ‘Telecom’ section in MyJio app. Original article: Reliance Jio No Longer Offering Unlimited JioTunes Subscription via JioSaavn ©2020 TelecomTalk.
