Bharti Airtel is said to be offering Linksys Velop AC 2200 Mesh Router to the subscribers opting for the Fiber Plus Mesh plan. The company earlier in the month had unveiled the Fiber Plus Mesh plan with a price tag of Rs 25,000 per year. The Fiber Plus Mesh plan enables users to browse up to 300 Mbps speed till 500GB per month with the operator also offering unlimited local and STD calls to any network across India. Crucially, Airtel highlighted that the Fiber Plus Mesh plan included a dedicated Linksys Velop device priced at Rs 50,000. However, the company did not highlight the exact model of the device offered to the users opting for the dedicated mesh plan.

Airtel Offers Linksys Velop AC 2200 Mesh Router with Fiber Plus Mesh Plan

It has now emerged that the company is offering the Linksys Velop AC 2200 Mesh Router with the Fiber Plus Mesh plan.

The company in a dedicated portal for the Fiber Plus Mesh plan said that the mesh system consists of nodes that are designed to work "seamlessly together" to provide "uninterrupted" coverage to users. Airtel said that its mesh system with three units has a capacity to cover around 3500 sq feet and that the users requiring additional nodes can purchase the system from the market.

"The area covered by each node also depends on the type of house, layout of house or number of walls, construction materials and various other local factors," Airtel said in a dedicated portal.

Airtel said that its mesh system due to its "intelligent design" will be able "dynamically recalibrate itself" according to the environment resulting in "optimal speed and coverage" as compared to repeaters and extenders. The company said that the device with its multi-band technology will not be "limited by the constraints of backhaul" that typically impacts the speed of the connection.

The device is said to be covered under warranty for a period of two years and the company said that the installation will be completed within 48 hours from the time of registration.

The users are also said to be provided access to a Mesh App that acts as a "one point solution" to all the user issues.

"It shows if all the devices are properly set up and are up and running, the devices connected to the system, parental control, speed check, guest access," Airtel said.

Linksys Velop AC 2200 Available Under Rs 40,000 on E-commerce Sites

It has to be noted that the three pack Linksys Velop AC 2200 is available on the leading e-commerce sites for a price of Rs 39,999.

Linksys on its site highlighted that its mesh system consists of a primary router connecting directly to the modem and a series of satellite nodes placed around the house for complete WiFi coverage. The company said that each node features three WiFI radios including one 2.4 GHz and two 5 GHz radios. The 2.4 GHz is said to have the capacity to handle up to 400 Mbps speed while each 5 GHz radio frequency is said to have a throughput of 867 Mbps.

Further, Linksys said that the nodes could cover up to 2000 square feet "under normal use conditions" but that the actual range depends on factors like “wireless obstructions, operating environments and building material.”

The Linksys Velop AC 2200 also said to feature Linksys Shield that provides access to parental control features for filtering content and managing screen time on specific devices.

Airtel Annual Premium Plan Priced at Rs 15,290

The Premium plan currently provided by Airtel under its Fiber Plus Mesh plan is available at a monthly subscription price of Rs 1499. The users can also subscribe to the Premium plan on a yearly basis for a price of Rs 15,290 inclusive of the 15% discount that Airtel currently offers to its consumers.

Airtel in its dedicated portal for the Fiber Plus Mesh plan highlights that the users will not be allowed to move to a different plan post the installation of the mesh system for a period of one year. However, the users are said to have the "freedom to choose" the plan of their choice in the second year.

Another Tariff Hike Should Happen in Next 6 Months, Says Sunil Mittal of Bharti Airtel

Posted: 25 Aug 2020 12:30 AM PDT

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/another-tariff-hike-airtel-sunil-mittal/292564/, Another Tariff Hike Should Happen in Next 6 Months, Says Sunil Mittal of Bharti Airtel

Telecom operators in India are struggling a lot when it comes to the financial aspect. A lot has been said about the Indian telecom industry over the last six months, but telcos are trying their best to provide services during these tough times. And to improve their financial stability, telcos will have to increase the tariff prices. The last tariff hike which happened in December 2019 had a very positive impact on ARPU of Bharti Airtel. But the former leading telecom operator is not stopping yet. Sunil Mittal of Bharti Airtel now opined that a new tariff hike should happen in the next six months so that the ARPU will increase further. As we already know, Bharti Airtel is eyeing for an ARPU or Average Revenue per User of Rs 300 in the near future.

Airtel Eyes at Achieving Rs 300 ARPU in the Future

The entry of Reliance Jio shattered the Indian telecom market. Jio is now the leading telecom operator in terms of subscriber base, but Airtel is leading the ARPU front as it is focussing heavily on revenue-generating customers. Speaking to PTI, Sunil Bharti Mittal said that the current data prices in India are not sustainable, not only for Airtel but for the entire telecom industry. Mittal stated that the consumption of 16GB data a month for just Rs 160 is a tragedy.

“You either consume 1.6GB of capacity per month either at this price point or you may prepare to pay a lot more. We are not wanting $50-60 like the U.S. or Europe but certainly $2 for 16GB a month is not sustainable,” Mittal said at an event, as reported by PTI.

Bharti Airtel reported Rs 157 ARPU in Q1 FY21 and it is the only telco with an ARPU of Rs 150 in India right now. Mittal expects the ARPU of Bharti Airtel to cross Rs 200 in the next six months, owing to digital content consumption. The addition of prepaid plans with Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscription will further boost the ARPU of Airtel.

Furthermore, Airtel is also trying to achieve Rs 300 ARPU in the coming quarters, but that will depend on the impact of the tariff hike, which is expected to happen in the next six months.

Nokia 5.3 First Impressions

Posted: 24 Aug 2020 11:03 PM PDT

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/nokia-5-2020-first-impressions/292539/, Nokia 5.3 First Impressions

HMD Global hasn’t been that active in the Indian smartphone market for a while now. However, it is changing now with the launch of the Nokia 5.3. The Nokia 5.3 comes as a successor to the Nokia 5.1 Plus that was launched a while back in India. HMD Global has been teasing the arrival of Nokia 5.3 for a while now. The Nokia 5.3 is a mid-range smartphone priced under Rs 15,000 to take on the likes of Poco M2 Pro, Redmi Note 9 Pro, Realme 6i and even the Redmi Note 9. As we have seen in the past, HMD Global is not betting on the specifications of the Nokia 5.3, instead, the company is trying to gain consumers on user experience factor. The Nokia 5.3 is powered by the Snapdragon 665 SoC and it features a 4000mAh battery promising two-day battery life. I have been using the Nokia 5.3 for a while now and here are my initial impressions.

Nokia 5.3 First Impressions: Design and Display

One thing that is quite noticeable right from the first impression that you get of the smartphone is that it looks similar. You are not wrong though; the Nokia 5.3 comes with a front body design which is almost the same to that of its other smartphones. There are bezels on the smartphone which are again quite thick. You will find the Nokia logo at the bottom of the screen. The screen has a tear-drop notch at the top which houses the front camera.

Coming to the rear body of the smartphone, you will notice a very symmetrical camera. All the lenses at equal distances from each other will make you feel satisfied while looking at it. The quad-camera set up in a round design which also has a flash right at the centre. The colour and design of the smartphone are quite good, and it certainly looks classy. Body of the smartphone is made of plastic. But don't worry, it is a very high-quality plastic which is made of polymer composite and both the frame and backplate are matte coated.

The power button of the smartphone is situated on the right side of the Nokia 5.3 along with the volume rockers right above it. All the proximity sensors, light, and front camera are on the top of the device. SIM slots are present on the left side of the smartphone, and it is a dual-SIM smartphone. Along with that, there is also a dedicated button for activating the Google Assistant. There is a 3.5mm audio jack present at the top of the smartphone, and the Type-C charging port is in the bottom. On the back of the smartphone, right below the camera setup, there is a fingerprint scanner as well.

The Nokia 5.3 comes with a 6.55-inch HD+ IPS display with a resolution 1,600 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20:9. There’s nothing to talk about this display as it renders decent colours and the brightness levels are also on par with other phones available in this price range. However, the addition of Full HD+ display could’ve been a better choice to compete with others in the price segment.

Nokia 5.3 First Impressions: Performance and Software

The Nokia 5.3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 Mobile Platform built on 11nm process. The Adreno 610 GPU supports the smartphone for graphic processing. There are different options for RAM available – 4GB/6GB RAM. As for the storage, there is 64GB of internal storage where 46.37GB is available for the customer to store his files and data upon activation of the smartphone. The good thing is that the internal memory is expandable up to 512GB. It is not the fastest smartphone you will find in the market, but it has a very decent performance when the price is considered.

There is a fingerprint scanner at the back which enhances the security of your device. You also get the support of basic gestures for giving commands to the smartphone. For connectivity, the smartphone supports Wi-Fi 5 and NFC.

The phone runs Android 10 out of the box and it is part of Android One programme, meaning we are getting stock Android experience. Right out of the box, the phone has an OTA update which brought the security patch to June 2020. HMD Global also assured the Nokia 5.3 is Android 11 ready, so expect it to get the forthcoming Android update by the end of this year.

Nokia 5.3 First Impressions: Cameras

There are four camera sensors at the rear of the Nokia 5.3. The primary camera comes with a 13MP lens paired with a 5MP wide-angle lens, and the other two sensors are 2MP macro and depth sensor. To the front, we get an 8MP shooter for clicking selfies and attending video calls.

Here are some of the camera samples shot on the Nokia 5.3. What do think of them? Let us know in the comments section below.

Nokia 5.3 First Impressions: Battery

Battery is one of the most important things that people consider before they buy a smartphone. The Nokia 5.3 comes with a 4000mAh cell which supports up to 10W fast charging. HMD Global says promises two-day battery life with the Nokia 5.3 which is pretty good. I did not charge the handset from for over two days, so it seems the claims are true. But the full battery life examination will be done over the next week and will be presented in the detailed review.

Nokia 5.3 First Impressions: Verdict

HMD Global has announced the Nokia 5.3 in two variants in India- 4GB+64GB at Rs 13,999 and 6GB+64GB at Rs 15,499. The phone can be picked up via Amazon.in and Nokia.com/phones in Cyan, Sand and Charcoal colour options.

The Nokia 5.3 goes against the Poco M2 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro in India with its starting price of Rs 13,999. As we all know, HMD Global never goes after the specs and what matters for the company is the user experience. The phone lacks behind the competition when it comes to specs-to-price ratio, but again, we get a clean stock experience and a guaranteed two major Android updates along with monthly security updates for three years. This is something which makes the Nokia 5.3 a unique proportion in the sub-Rs 15,000 price segment.

Will you pick up the Nokia 5.3 over its competitors? Let us know in the comments section below.

BSNL Set to Launch IPTV Service on August 27

Posted: 24 Aug 2020 06:34 PM PDT

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-iptv-service-launch-august/292416/, BSNL Set to Launch IPTV Service on August 27

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will launch its internet protocol television (IPTV) services in the Kerala circle on August 27, 2020 on a "trial basis." The development was shared by P G Nirmal, BSNL Kerala general manager for sales and marketing in a letter to the operator's business area heads on Friday. It has to be noted that BSNL in February unveiled its IPTV services in Kerala. However, the IPTV service in the region remained a "non starter" due to the lack of an "acceptable revenue share formula" between BSNL, IPTV service provider and the local cable operator (LCO).

BSNL Set to Launch IPTV Services in 3 Areas

According to the letter, BSNL is said to launch its IPTV services in three areas namely Ernakulam, Alleppey and Thrissur. The trial period is said to be between August 27, 2020 to October 31, 2020.

It was said that the BSNL users registering for the IPTV service on or before September 10, 2020 will be provided complimentary access to all free-to-air (FTA) channels for one month.

The operator is likely to share further details about the service in the upcoming days including charges for the IPTV service beyond the free period.

BSNL Could Charge Rs 130 Per Month for IPTV Service

In early May, it emerged that Cinesoft, the IPTV service provider for the operator proposed a fifty-fifty revenue share model that enabled BSNL to earn Rs 65 per connection. Under the proposed revenue share model, Cinesoft was set to earn Rs 65 for the Rs 130 FTA plan. Further, the service provider in its initial discussions is said to have offered to provide IPTV feed for Rs 25 per user to the LCOs which would have enabled LCOs to earn Rs 40 per connection.

However, the proposed model was said to have been an "extremely unattractive package" as the LCOs in the state were offered better revenue sharing schemes with other multiple-system operators (MSO). The Sanchar Nigam Executives' Association, the BSNL executive association with over 12000 members proposed a different revenue sharing system which fixed the revenue share between BSNL and Cinesoft at Rs 25 each. Further, the model proposed by the BSNL executive association enabled LCOs to sell the connection at Rs 130 per user but the LCOs were set to receive Rs 80 per connection.

It remains to be seen whether the operator had opted for the revenue sharing model proposed by its Sanchar Nigam Executives' Association. Meanwhile, BSNL has also been teasing the launch of its IPTV services in multiple states including Gujarat.
