| Vodafone Idea Reports Decreased ARPU and Loss of 11.3 Million Customers in Q1 FY21 Posted: 06 Aug 2020 06:06 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/vodafone-idea-arpu-q1-fy21/287768/, Vodafone Idea Reports Decreased ARPU and Loss of 11.3 Million Customers in Q1 FY21
Vodafone Idea Limited released its reports for the Q1 of Financial Year 2021. Looking at the report, it seems like things didn't go VIL's way as much as the telco would have wanted. In its report, VIL highlighted that they have provided uninterrupted services to both their enterprise and retail customers despite the unprecedented times. But the telco had to pay the cost of slow down of the economy due to global pandemic. VIL faced a quarterly loss and also saw a decrease in the number of total subscribers compared to the previous quarter. Along with that, the telco also witnessed a reduction of ARPU. Lesser ARPU than Previous QuarterIn its Q1 FY21 report, Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) reported that their average revenue per user (ARPU) declined from Rs 121 in the Q4 FY20 to Rs 114. Along with that, the telco lost 11.3 million subscribers on the quarter and now has 279.8 million subscribers as compared to 291.1 million subscribers in the Q4 FY20. Out of these, 104.6 million subscribers are 4G customers of the telco. VIL's revenue for the quarter declined by 9.3% to Rs 106.6 billion. But it wasn't all bad. There were some positives reflected in the report as well. VIL witnessed a strong data volume growth of 10.6% which is the highest in the previous 6 quarters. Going with the report, data usage per broadband subscriber increased to 13GB every month which is a good sign for the telco. Along with that, the surge in data volume was handled efficiently by the telco post-integration of Vodafone and Idea services. VIL provided the fastest 4G download speeds in the following telecom circles — West Bengal, Mumbai, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Madhya Pradesh in Q1'21. The telco's 4G coverage has increased to 1 billion compared to 916 million last year. This has been possible because of the expansion of 4G services throughout the country. VIL added 13,000 4G FDD sites simply by reframing the 2G/3G spectrum to expand its 4G operations. The overall broadband site count for the telco stands at 4,46,131 in Q1 FY21 as compared to 4,36,006 in Q4 FY20. Religare Broking on Tuesday said in a report that the company believes Bharti Airtel can "continue to gain market share" in its mobile services segment in the upcoming quarters. The company in its report highlighted the first quarter results of Airtel where the second largest telecom operator in India recorded an 15.4% increase in its consolidated revenues on a yearly basis. Airtel reported 14.6% year-over-year (YoY) increase in its India revenues for the period ended June 30, 2020. Further, Airtel said that its revenues from the mobile services segment in the country was up 18.5% on a yearly basis. Religare Broking Believes Bharti Airtel "Well Placed" in Telecom SectorAirtel in its first quarter results for the period ended June 30, 2020 said that the mobile data traffic recorded a growth of 72.7% YoY. The company said that the average data usage per subscriber hit 16.3GB per month while the voice usage was at 994 minutes per subscriber per month. "Bharti Airtel reported healthy set of numbers in Q1FY21 considering the impact of lockdown," Religare Broking said in a report on Tuesday. "Bharti Airtel is well placed to benefit from increased traction received in digital services during COVID times, which we believe is likely to continue to going forward." Airtel also said that its 4G data customers were up by 43 million representing a growth of 45.3% on a yearly basis. The company said that it has 138.3 million 4G subscribers at the end of its first quarter ended June 30, 2020. "After a steady addition of customers, we believe Bharti can continue to gain market share in the mobile services business," Religare Broking said. Religare Broking Expects Further Tariff Hikes in the Telecom SectorAirtel in its first quarter results for the period ended June 30, 2020 said that the average revenue per user (ARPU) hit Rs 157 in its mobile services segment. In the same period in 2019, Airtel recorded an ARPU of Rs 129. Comparatively, Reliance Jio, the largest telecom operator in India reported an ARPU of Rs 140.3 for the period ended June 30, 2020. Airtel said that the increase in ARPU was largely driven by the tariff hikes that the telecom operators introduced in India in late 2019. Further, the company said that its "focus on quality customers" also accounted for an increase in its ARPU. Similarly, Reliance Jio in its investor presentation also highlighted that its revenue growth was also largely driven by the "continued subscriber momentum and impact of tariff hike." "In our view, the tariff hike would continue from here on, to reduce the financial stress on telecom companies which would benefit Bharti Airtel due to its strong customer base and healthy addition in 4G customers," Religare Broking said. In the first quarter earnings call, Gopal Vittal, CEO of Airtel, said that the company believes ARPU has to hit Rs 300. "As I have always said – we continue to believe that ARPUs need to move up to 200 and eventually to 300 for a sustainable business model," Vittal said. "We also saw solid momentum in our Postpaid segment. While the overall numbers in the quarter were hampered by churn in our corporate customer base due we are seeing strong surge in the retail segment." With India easing up restrictions that were in place due to the COVID-19 lockdown under the Unlock scheme, it remains to be seen whether the operators regain momentum in their corporate user base. "We have seen the business recover month on month. June was more resilient than May and May was more resilient than April," Vittal said. "We see a silver lining to this disruption as we are hopeful that the importance of telecom sector has now been emphatically understood by all. Ensuring robust health of the to make it more sustainable is now also recognised." Vittal said that the performance of Airtel in the quarter ended June 30, 2020 was "satisfactory" due to the "unprecedented circumstances." "Our focus remains simple – Win quality customers, Do this through differentiation, delivering the best experience and through in market execution," Vittal said. Religare Broking said that the company maintains "positive stance" on Airtel due to multiple factors including "improvement in market share."

| Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra vs S20 Ultra vs Note 10+: Which One to Buy? Posted: 06 Aug 2020 03:33 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/samsung-galaxy-note-20-series-pricing/287698/, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra vs S20 Ultra vs Note 10+: Which One to Buy?
Samsung launches some of the most expensive smartphones in India. The South Korean tech giant launched its latest smartphones in the Note series yesterday — the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. It is priced quite heavily and people will be wondering whether it would be the best buy or not. Earlier this year, Samsung also launched the S20 series in India and S20 Ultra from the series is also priced around the same range as of Note 20 Ultra. Another smartphone that people might look to buy from the Note series is Note 10+. Even though it was launched last year, the smartphone has all the essential specs and can deliver great performance under heavy usage. So let's take a look at Note 20 Ultra vs Note 10+ vs S20 Ultra and see which smartphone comes out on the top. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra vs S20 Ultra vs Note 10+: DisplayLet's start with the display of the devices. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with a 6.9-inch WQHD+ (1440 x 3200 pixels) Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED 2x curved edge display. A noteworthy feature of the screen is that it can support up to 120Hz refresh rate. It has an aspect ratio of 19:3:9. So the screen is quite large and the curved edge display makes it even more elegant with 120Hz refresh rate support. Coming to the S20 Ultra, it has a 6.9-inch Quad HD+ (1440 x 3200 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2x display. Pixel count on the screen is 511ppi. The Galaxy S20 Ultra can also support a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. There is a no curved edge screen though. The Note 10+ comes with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2280 pixels) Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED display. Note 10+ can only support a refresh rate of up to 60Hz which is quite a bummer when compared to the Note 20 Ultra and S20 Ultra's display. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra vs S20 Ultra vs Note 10+: CameraThe camera is easily one of the most important elements for any smartphone today. Starting with Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, there is a triple camera setup at the rear. The primary sensor of the camera is a 108MP lens, paired with a secondary 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 12MP tertiary sensor. The highlight of the rear camera setup of Note 20 Ultra is its 3x optical zoom and 50x space zoom feature. Along with that, you can record videos in up to 8K with the Note 20 Ultra. As for clicking selfies, there is a 10MP sensor at the front. The S20 Ultra also comes with a triple camera setup at the rear. The primary sensor of the camera setup is a 108MP lens paired with a 48MP telephoto sensor and a 12MP sensor. The highlight of the camera is its new periscope-style telephoto lens which will support 10x hybrid optical zoom and maximum zoom of up to 100x. As for shooting selfies, there is a 40MP sensor at the front. The Note 10+ also comes with a triple camera setup at the rear. The main camera of the setup is a 12MP wide-angle sensor paired with a secondary 16MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 12MP telephoto lens. There is also a depth sensor included in the camera setup. For clicking selfies, there is a 10MP sensor at the front. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra vs S20 Ultra vs Note 10+: SpecsThe Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with One UI on top of Android 10. Powering the smartphone is octa-core Exynos 990 or Snapdragon 865+ SoC. The chipset will be paired with 8GB and 12GB RAM. There are three options to go for when looking at the internal storage of the device — 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. You can further increase the storage capacity with the help of a microSD card. There is a 4,500mAh battery inside the smartphone which supports wired fast charging along with wireless charging. The Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990 SoC. The chipset is paired with 12GB and 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. There are three onboard storage options for the users to choose from — 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The S20 Ultra storage can also be expanded through a microSD card. There is a 5000mAh battery inside the smartphone which can support 45W fast charging if the customer goes for the optional adapter. Coming to the Galaxy Note 10+, out of the box, the smartphone comes with Android 10 and One UI on top. It is powered by the Exynos 9825 SoC which is paired with 12GB RAM. There are two onboard storage options available for the smartphone — 256GB and 512GB. The internal storage is expandable up to 1TB with the help of a microSD card. There is a 4300mAh battery inside which can support 45W fast charging. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra vs S20 Ultra vs Note 10+: Price and VerdictSamsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is available for pre-booking in India with 256GB internal storage variant priced at Rs 1,04,999. It is available in two colours for pre-booking — Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze. Pricing of the other 4G variant should be out soon if Samsung decides to launch it in India. As for the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which is already launched in India, it comes for a price of Rs 97,999 for its 12GB of RAM + 128GB of internal storage. This is the current pricing of the smartphone and is susceptible to change anytime the company wants. It is available in Cosmic Gray colour. The Galaxy Note 10+ can be found at different prices in Amazon and Flipkart for its same variant. Its 12GB + 256GB storage variant is available at Rs 83,499 (Aura Glow) and Rs 84,999 (Aura Black) on Amazon. There is also a 12GB + 256GB variant priced at Rs 89,999 (Aura Glow) on Amazon. So from the comparison, it is clear that Note 20 Ultra is better than both the S20 Ultra and Note 10+ in the display department. However, the display of Note 20 Ultra and S20 Ultra is very much close to being alike. In the camera department as well, both Note 20 Ultra and S20 Ultra almost have similar cameras. At the same time, it is worth mentioning that S20 Ultra has the 100x Space Zoom which is a unique feature not present in either Note 20 Ultra or Note 10+. Performance-wise, Note 20 Ultra comes with the most powerful SoC and understandably so because it is the most recent smartphone amongst the three. There won't be an issue with internal storage on any of the smartphones since there is an expandable storage option on all of them. So it won't be wrong to argue that Note 20 Ultra is the most powerful device amongst the three, but then it is also the most expensive. The S20 Ultra doesn't fall too far behind the Note 20 Ultra. With pricing almost on the similar range, if you don't want a stylus and want a little toned-down version of Note 20 Ultra, go for S20 Ultra. In case you want to save a little, then go for Note 10+. We are already aware that Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel happens to be the most trusted and cheapest operators in India when it comes to prepaid plans. Both operators have developed an extensive portfolio of prepaid plans to cater to the different needs of their subscribers. Now, 2GB daily data prepaid plans are most preferred by Indian subscribers. However, both Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel also offer 3GB data prepaid plans to their subscribers in case if they need more data for either work or entertainment purpose. In this article, we will cover the benefits of the costliest 2GB daily data prepaid plans offered by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel with a validity of 365 days and cover the major differences. Reliance Jio Rs 2599 Prepaid PlanIn general, the first plan that draws the attention of subscribers while they are looking for a 2GB daily data plan with a validity of 28 days is Rs 249 prepaid plan. However, if the subscribers are looking for a plan with a validity of 365 days, prepaid plan of Rs 2599 is the best plan offered by the operator. As of benefits, subscribers get 2GB daily data for 365 days which sums up the total data benefit to 730GB. Apart from this, other benefits include free Jio-to-Jio unlimited calls and 12,000 minutes FUP if calls are made to operators other than Reliance Jio. Subscribers will also get 100 SMSes per day in this plan. Additional Benefits in Reliance Jio Rs 2599 Prepaid PlanEarlier, we stated that the plan would offer 2GB data per day which total up to 730GB data in a year. However, as additional benefits, Reliance Jio also offers extra 10GB data in this plan which totals up the data benefits to 740GB. Apart from this, subscribers will also get one-year free subscription of Disney+ Hotstar worth Rs 399 at no extra cost. Also, the complimentary subscription of Jio apps will be included in the plan. Bharti Airtel Rs 2498 Prepaid PlanThe good thing with the prepaid plans of Bharti Airtel is that it offers truly unlimited calls to justify its price tag. Similar to Reliance Jio, Airtel subscribers lookout for Rs 2498 prepaid plan which comes with a validity of 365 days. Subscribers get 2GB daily data in this plan. Apart from this, they get truly unlimited calling benefits and 100 SMSes a day. Additional Benefits in Bharti Airtel Rs 2498 Prepaid PlanUnlike Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel subscribers will not get extra data benefits in the Rs 2498 prepaid plan. However, they will be getting a host of additional benefits. The benefits will include free subscription of Airtel Xstream Premium and Wynk Music. Not only this, but Airtel will also offer free hello tunes and Rs 150 cashback on FASTag. Lastly, subscribers will also get 1 year free courses on Shaw Academy in this plan. Which Prepaid Plan to Choose? The comparison between both the prepaid plans offered by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel is subjective as it comes down to the end need of customers. If the customers are looking for truly unlimited calling benefits, Bharti Airtel prepaid plan might be the best choice. As of data benefits, Reliance Jio might be a better plan to pick as it offers additional 10GB data to subscribers in its prepaid plan. Coming to the additional benefits, both the operators offer a variety of benefits and subscription, so it depends upon the need and purpose of the subscriber. But if you are looking for an overall lucrative prepaid plan with extra data benefits, OTT subscriptions and unlimited calling, paying Rs 101 for Reliance Jio offering would be our pick. | Brookfield Expects to Close Reliance Jio Tower Acquisition Shortly Posted: 06 Aug 2020 01:28 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/brookfield-jio-tower-acquistion-deal/287702/, Brookfield Expects to Close Reliance Jio Tower Acquisition Shortly
Brookfield Infrastructure Partners on Wednesday said that it expects to close its acquisition of 130,000 from Reliance Jio shortly. The development was shared by Sam Pollock, CEO of Brookfield Infrastructure in the second quarter earnings call on Wednesday. The company had earlier reported its second quarter results for the period ended June 30, 2020 with Brookfield Infrastructure recording a net loss of 61 million. In the previous year quarter, the company posted a net income of US$98 million. Brookfield Infrastructure said that its overall revenues for the period ended June 30, 2020 stood at US$1,946 million as compared to US$1,685 million during the same time in 2019. Brookfield Infrastructure Expects to Close Reliance Jio Tower Acquisition ShortlyIn December 2019, Brookfield Infrastructure said that it entered into a binding agreement to acquire 100% stake in a tower company from Reliance Industrial Investments and Holdings (RIIHL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries. The company said that it is acquiring approximately 130,000 towers that are the network infrastructure backbone of Reliance Jio. "These are recently constructed assets that are strategically located for pan-India 4G coverage," Brookfield Infrastructure, said in a release in December 2019. "These towers are well-positioned from a competitive perspective as they are largely connected by fibre backhaul, which provides a unique platform to capitalise on the rollout of 5G and future technologies." Pollock in the earnings call on Wednesday said that the company received "positive feedback" from the Indian regulators "that the remaining approvals are on track." Further, Pollock highlighted that Reliance Jio raised around US$20 billion from various technologies and other private equity investors since Brookfield Infrastructure announced the Reliance Jio tower acquisition. "They [Reliance Jio] have visions of becoming both an Amazon type business, as well as social media type business. And I think the scale of that market has huge potential," Pollock said in the earnings call. "And that given the lack of landlines in the country means that the wireless infrastructure will have to be used extensively, and having ownership of those towers means, we think there will have to be even further investments in that infrastructure, which positions us really well." Multiple Factors Including COVID-19 Caused Delay in Reliance Jio Tower AcquisitionPollock said that the delays in getting the approval for the acquisition of Reliance Jio towers was a "mix of a number of factors" including COVID-19 causing a delay. "Obviously, COVID impacted all regulatory approvals around the world. Things were not as efficient," Pollock said. "The Indian market can sometimes be less efficient from a regulatory perspective than others, so that’s a factor." Crucially, Pollock highlighted that Brookfield Infrastructure will invest approximately US$500 million of equity post its acquisition of Reliance Jio towers. "We expect this acquisition to be accretive to our overall cash flow," Pollock said. Original article: Brookfield Expects to Close Reliance Jio Tower Acquisition Shortly ©2020 TelecomTalk. | ZEE5 Premium No Longer on Offer With Airtel Thanks Platinum Membership Posted: 05 Aug 2020 10:56 PM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/zee5-premium-airtel-thanks-membership/287474/, ZEE5 Premium No Longer on Offer With Airtel Thanks Platinum Membership
ZEE5 Premium is an OTT content platform. Recently, it became the 6th most downloaded streaming app from the Play Store. There is a lot of content in many different languages and that is one of the reasons why people have been streaming from the app. ZEE5 Premium yearly membership comes for Rs 999. There are more packs a customer can choose from such as monthly, quarterly, and 6 months. Airtel Thanks Platinum membership offered three major benefits which were subscription to Amazon Prime, ZEE5 Premium, and Airtel Xstream Premium for free. But now that offer has been modified and ZEE5 Premium has been removed from the offering. Airtel Removes ZEE5 Premium from Airtel Thanks PlatinumWhen customers who purchase a postpaid connection above Rs 499 or a broadband connection above Rs 1,099 from the telco, they are included in the Airtel Thanks Platinum membership. The Platinum membership came with the OTT subscription benefits. But out of those benefits, ZEE5 Premium subscription has been removed. So now the customers who are in the Platinum membership of the Airtel Thanks, they will only get free subscriptions of Amazon Prime and Airtel Xstream. In the past few weeks, this is not the first time that Airtel has removed the ZEE5 Premium benefit from its plans. Earlier, the telco removed the benefit from all of its prepaid-plans and broadband fiber plans except the Rs 289 prepaid plan. Another way to get the subscription of ZEE5 Premium for Airtel is to go to its Airtel Thanks Digital Store and purchase the monthly subscription at Rs 79. It is a little strange to see that Airtel is removing the ZEE5 Premium benefits from its plans just when it went into a strong partnership with ZEE5. For now, people who want ZEE5 Premium subscription, they can get it from the website or from the app of ZEE5. The monthly plan will cost Rs 99, three months plan will cost Rs 299, six months plan comes for Rs 599, and the yearly plan will cost Rs 999. Airtel Rs 289 Prepaid Plan Which Comes With ZEE5 PremiumAirtel’s Rs 289 prepaid plan is the only prepaid plan from the telco which comes with the ZEE5 premium subscription. The only thing is this plan comes with a very short validity of 28 days. Daily data that you will get is 1.5GB which is a little less than what you would expect when you pay Rs 289 for a validity of only 28 days. There is unlimited calling to any network included with the benefits as well as 100 SMS/day. Airtel Thanks Digital StoreAirtel Thanks Digital Store offers customers digital services. Basically, it is a place where all the members of the Airtel Thanks can come and purchase digital services from. Now one would ask why should I take it from the Airtel Thanks Digital Store? The answer is you get the exact same digital product or service at a discounted rate. Much recently, Airtel removed the ZEE5 Premium subscription from all of its prepaid plans leaving the Rs 289 plan. Along with that, all the fiber customers weren't getting the subscription as well. But now, Airtel has also removed the offer from the benefits of Airtel Thanks Platinum membership. Earlier the subscription of ZEE5 premium was available to the customers with Platinum membership of Airtel Thanks, but that's not the case anymore. However, if you are an Airtel customer and are thinking of purchasing the ZEE5 Premium subscription since you don't get it as a benefit from your plan anymore, don't go looking anywhere else but the Airtel Thanks Digital Store. If you purchase the ZEE5 Premium subscription from the website or app of ZEE5, then you will have to pay Rs 99 per month or Rs 999 per year. But if you purchase the subscription of ZEE5 Premium from the Digital Store, then you will get it at a discounted price of Rs 79 per month. Even if you calculate it for a year, you still end up paying Rs 948. Yes, it is only Rs 51 lesser than the original yearly plan of Rs 999, but the discount still counts. There are other digital products as well which you can subscribe to with the help of Airtel Thanks Digital Store. One of those digital products is 'Testbook'. It is an app which helps you prepare for government exams. Normally its subscription costs Rs 200 per month, but with the Digital Store, its subscription will cost only Rs 149.
