Just yesterday Xiaomi came out with its latest fitness band, the Mi Smart Band 5. The company also launched a few other pretty exciting products with the Smart Band such as Smart LED Bulb (White), shoes among other products. The Mi Smart Band 5 brings some really impressive features to the table. There are 11 sports modes which the users can choose through and a new charging system to make the experience of charging more convenient for the customers. The Mi Smart Band 5 has even got a bigger display than the Mi Smart Band 4. Let's take a look at how this fitness band fares off overall and if it is worth your money.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 First Impressions: Body, Design and Display

The Mi Smart Band 5 looks very similar to the Mi Smart Band 4. Even with the bigger display, the fitness band still looks very compact and stylish on the user's wrist. The belt of the band feels very nice against the touch or skin of my hand so there is no discomfort while wearing it, meaning you can wear it for longer hours. Since it is a fitness band, Xiaomi has given the band a sporty look.

It looks very premium so you can wear it to a party or a meeting, basically anywhere you go. The body has been made in such a manner which makes the fitness band 5ATM waterproof (up to 50m). This means that you can also wear it when you go swimming. The fitness band is available in five different colours — Teal, Black, Navy Blue, Purple, and Orange. Coming back to the design, it is not very different from all the other Mi Smart Bands already out in the market.

But the Mi Smart Band 5 does have a larger display. It dons the largest display amongst all the Mi Smart Bands in the market. You get a 1.1-inch colour AMOLED display which can support up to 450 nits of brightness. The colours on the screen look crisp and accurate. You can even see the content on the screen under sunlight.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 First Impressions: Features

The Mi Smart Band 5 comes with 11 different sports modes. All the sensors and features in the band are focused on the health of the customer. There is a heart-rate monitor which keeps track of your heart rate all day long and you can get the data for the same through the app with which the fitness band is integrated. You can also monitor your sleeping patterns with the watch, which is not something new, but the accuracy of sleep tracking has been bumped up by 40%, which is impressive. The Mi Smart Band 5 also keeps check of stress levels in your body, and it keeps alerting you to get relaxed. There is also a breathing training feature inside the fitness band which you can take advantage of.

Xiaomi has added a few features, especially keeping in mind the health of women. The all-new women's health tracking system will keep a note of the menstrual cycle of women and keep giving them timely reminders regarding the same.

Talking about the specifications of the Mi Smart Band 5, it comes with an internal memory of 16MB and is paired with 512KB RAM. The fitness band gets the support of Bluetooth 5.0 and will pair with all the Android devices running on Android 5.0 and above and iOS devices running on iOS 10 and above.

With the help of the app, you can change the watch face anytime you wish. There are multiple options available for free within the app which you can check out later. Other cool features of the band are that you can control the camera and music of your smartphone and even find your smartphone in case you keep it somewhere and forget. There is support for notifications for various apps.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 First Impressions: Charging and Battery

As far as the battery is concerned, there is a small 125mAh battery inside the band. It might feel small, but Xiaomi has claimed that you can run it up to tw0 weeks and in battery saving mode even three weeks. So the battery should never be a problem for you with this fitness band. For charging, Xiaomi has employed a new magnetic charging system which makes it more convenient for the customer to charge his/her band. The charging head gets connected to the watch automatically when brought closer and is very easy to remove as well.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 First Impressions

At the asking price of Rs 2,499, there’s nothing wrong with the Mi Smart Band 5. Xiaomi has added some minor upgrades overall like the bigger display, much-asked magnetic charging and there are some really impressive software improvements too. Stay tuned for our full review coming after a couple of weeks.

Reliance Jio Asks DoT to Soon Hold Spectrum Auctions

Reliance Jio auction

Reliance Jio, the largest telecom operator in India, has asked the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to soon hold the next round of spectrum auctions. According to the Mint, Reliance Jio in a letter to the DoT, highlighted that the delay in spectrum auction will result in a huge loss to the government revenues. Crucially, the operator also said that the holding of the spectrum auctions at the earliest will result in the enhancement of 4G services. Mint highlighted that the copies of the letter have also been sent to Ravi Shankar Prasad, the communications minister and PK Mishra, principal secretary to the prime minister.

DoT Plans to Auction 8300 MHz of Spectrum

It has to be noted that the DoT plans to hold an auction for 8300 MHz of spectrum at a reserve price of Rs 5.23 trillion. Mint highlighted that the largest telecom operator wants spectrum auction to be held in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2500 MHz bands. However, Reliance Jio is said to have not sought the auction in the 3300 MHz to 3600 MHz bands meant for 5G services.

According to the recent Telecom Subscription Data for June as released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), Reliance Jio added over 4.4 million users. The Trai data highlights that the incumbent operators including Bharti Airtel, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Vodafone Idea lost over 1.1 million, 1.7 million and 4.8 million users respectively.

The incumbent operators specifically Airtel and Vodafone Idea are also dealing with the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) payment issues. The Supreme Court earlier in the month had allowed the telecom operators a 10-year time period for the payment of dues.

Reliance Jio Riding on Reliance Communication Airwaves

The Indian government between 2012 to 2016 held the spectrum auctions each year. However, the government has not conducted an auction in the past four years. Reliance Jio has been using the airwaves from Reliance Communications particularly in the 800 MHz under a sharing agreement to enhance its 4G coverage across India. Reliance Communications airwaves in 18 circles are reported to expire during the months of July to August, 2021.

"The auction process for this spectrum should have been started 18 months before the expiry," Reliance Jio said in the letter, as per the Mint report. “We reiterate that the inexplicable delay of four years in auction of spectrum since 2016 has created a situation of dire spectrum scarcity which is impacting the quality of experience and growth of services.”

Reliance Orbic Entry-Level Smartphone With Android 10 and Snapdragon QM215 Spotted Online

Posted: 29 Sep 2020 10:02 PM PDT

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/reliance-orbic-android-10-spotted/301447/, Reliance Orbic Entry-Level Smartphone With Android 10 and Snapdragon QM215 Spotted Online

It seems like Reliance Industries is bringing back the Orbic smartphone series as part of its partnership with search giant Google. Over the last few days, we have seen a lot of Orbic smartphones receiving certifications and gearing up for the launch. A new Google Play Console listing has now revealed the key specifications of Reliance Orbic smartphone with the model number- RC545L. The listing revealed the handset will run Android 10 probably Android 10 (Go Edition) out of the box and it will be powered by Qualcomm QM215 Mobile Platform. Over the last few weeks, we have been hearing rumours of an Android-powered smartphone from the house of Reliance Jio-owned by Reliance Industries.

Reliance Orbic RC545L Spotted: What You Need to Know

We have seen Reliance Industries launching 4G smartphones under the ‘LYF’ branding in recent years. Due to the cutthroat competition, Reliance stopped launching new phones since 2017. Before Lyf, Reliance used to launch feature phones under ‘Orbic’ branding. Now, the company will launch Android-powered phones under the same Orbic branding.

The Reliance Orbic smartphone with model number RC545L sports an HD+ display and the render of the device reveals an 18:9 aspect ratio with thick bezels on the front. It has the Qualcomm QM215 (Snapdragon QM215) system-on-chip and the listing did not reveal RAM information, but we are expecting it to have just 1GB of RAM. The phone will have an Adreno 306 GPU. The listing was spotted by tipster Mukul Sharma.

Notably, the handset will run Android 10. Since it is an entry-level smartphone, we are not expecting Reliance to use full-fledged Android. Instead, the phone could run Android 10 (Go Edition) out of the box. The app icons in the render also suggest the same.

Reliance Orbic RC545L: Expected Price in India

Recent reports surfaced online suggest that Reliance Industries will be betting on the pricing aspect with their entry-level Android smartphone. The company is said to launch the handset with a $40 price tag that translates to around Rs 3,000. Reliance already disrupted the feature phone market with the first generation JioPhone, but that was a feature phone 4G support. Now, a full-fledged Android Go or Android smartphone is coming from the house of Reliance with 4G support on board.

Reliance Industries and Google also approached CCI for the approval of the latter’s investment. If CCI gives the nod, we will soon see the Reliance Orbic smartphone in real life. What are your expectations on this upcoming smartphone from Reliance? Let us know by commenting below.
