As everyone expected, the Board of Vodafone Idea today approved the raising of funds of Rs 25,000 crore. The fresh round of fundraising will be subject to the approval of stakeholders. The Rs 25,000 crore will be used by the company to pay the pending dues and also to improve network connectivity across the country to take on rivals. The company informed this news via a fresh BSE filing. Vodafone Idea will raise Rs 15,000 crore via the issue of equity shares or securities convertible into equity shares and another Rs 15,000 crore via issuance of unsecured and/or secured, non-convertible debentures. However, Vodafone Idea stated the overall funds would not exceed Rs 25,000 crore. Vodafone Idea to Raise Rs 25,000 Crore: What You Need to Know
“However, the total raising of funds under (a) and (b) above shall not exceed Rs. 25,000 crore,” Vodafone Idea stated in the BSE listing. The proposals mentioned above will be discussed during the Annual General Meeting on September 30, 2020, concluded the telco. The debt-laden Vodafone Idea is under several financial stress as it has to pay over Rs 50,000 crore to the government in the next ten years as AGR dues. The Rs 25,000 crore fundraise will help the telecom operator. Vodafone Idea will also be using the fresh funds to improve its network connectivity across the country over the next few quarters. | Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Review: An Affordable Android TV Dongle Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:59 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/xiaomi-mi-tv-stick-review/294903/, Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Review: An Affordable Android TV Dongle
Xiaomi has been unstoppable in recent times. After becoming the leading Smart TV brand in the country, the Chinese company has now set its eyes on the non-Smart TV market. At the time of the Mi Box 4K launch back in May this year, Xiaomi stated that there are more than 15 million users with a TV, but it is not a Smart TV. The Mi Box 4K was the first attempt from Xiaomi at capturing the non-Smart TV users. However, the Mi Box 4K is a proper television accessory and it can’t be moved easily, which is why the company has brought the Mi TV Stick. Priced at Rs 2,799, the Mi TV Stick can be directly connected to your television using the HDMI port and it competes directly with the Amazon Fire TV Stick that’s retailing for around Rs 4,000 in the country. Continue reading to know more about the Mi TV Stick in detail. Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Review: DesignThe Mi TV Stick is more like a big USB drive. There is a very minimalistic branding of Mi on top of the Android TV stick and it very light in weight. Dimensions of the stick are 92.4 x 30.2 x 15.2mm, and to be honest, it feels like a more compact and precise version of the Amazon Fire TV Stick. The body of the stick is divided into two parts. The lower body or the second half of the Mi TV Stick has a glossy finish. The design of the body of Mi TV Stick has been executed cleverly by Xiaomi. There is a micro-USB port on the side of the body which supplies power to the Mi TV Stick. Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Review: PerformanceLet's first talk about the hardware part of the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick. The Cortex A53 cores power the Android TV Stick, and with that, you also get 1GB of RAM paired with up to 8GB of internal storage so that you have enough space for downloading your favourite applications. For connectivity, this Android TV stick can support Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.2. One of the best things about the Xiaomi MI TV stick is that it is powered by Android TV. As we already know, Android TV offers a much cleaner experience when compared with what Amazon offers with its streaming products. Google Play Store has a ton of games and apps that you can download and access on your TV. One feature that you will like about the Xiaomi MI TV Stick is that it allows customers to customise the home screen of the TV as per their wish.
You will have very easy access to most of your favourite content streaming platforms. Streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video can be accessed directly via the remote of the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick. There are other services such as Disney+ Hotstar, ZEE5, and more which you can download independently if you wish to. The Mi TV Stick delivered performance very similar to the Mi Box 4K. Switching between multiple apps was a breeze too. The Android TV stick also comes with in-built Chromecast so you can also cast the screen of your smartphone on your TV whenever you want. For sound, it supports Dolby Atmos; thus, you won't find anything wrong with the sound of the game. Unlike the Mi Box 4K which offers 4K support, the Mi TV Stick is limited to just 1080p. So if you are someone who watches content in 4K, then you will have to purchase the Mi Box 4K. In addition, your television should have support for 4K. Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Review: Remote ControlOne of the essential elements of an Android TV experience is the navigation from one app to the other. For that, a remote is used. Xiaomi offers a remote with the Mi TV Stick. It doesn't look like the traditional TV remotes with a ton of buttons on it. But it has a minimalistic design and a very clean look with fewer buttons. There are two dedicated buttons for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video so that the customers don't have to search for the app to stream from either of the platforms. There is a power button, and right below it, there is a dedicated Google Assistant button which will help you in giving voice commands. There are buttons for lowering and increasing the volume. Then at the centre are the buttons for navigating. Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Review: What Can Be Improved?Every product that comes to the market can be improved. That doesn't mean it is necessarily an unfinished product or a wrong product. It just means that with time, it can get better. It is the same case with the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick. It can be improved on a few ends. First is the quality of the visuals. Xiaomi offers customers the Mi Box 4K which supports 4K quality videos. But it is not the case with Xiaomi Mi TV Stick. It is quite strange to see that Xiaomi didn't offer 4K quality support with the Mi TV Stick. With this Android TV stick, the customers only get support for viewing 1080p videos. Along with that, one thing that is probably missing inside the packaging box is an HDMI extension wire. Other than this, nothing is missing from the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick and it is probably the must-have TV accessory. Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Review: Price and VerdictThe Xiaomi Mi TV stick has been launched in India for Rs 2,799 and compared to other Android TV sticks; it is safe to say that it is one of the best priced and cheapest for the customers. If you are looking for a cheap Android TV stick which can give you an excellent Android TV experience, the Mi TV stick is worth considering. There is just one thing; if you want the content in 4K, then this is not the product you should go for. But if you are happy with 1080p, then the Mi TV stick becomes a perfect option. Also, before purchasing the Mi TV Stick make sure that the HDMI ports on your television are located onto the sides. If they are located on the rear side, then you will have to purchase an HDMI-HDMI extension. Original article: Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Review: An Affordable Android TV Dongle ©2020 TelecomTalk. | BSNL to Disengage with Contract Workers Even as Quality of Service “Deteriorated” Posted: 04 Sep 2020 03:07 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-contract-workers-quality-service/294850/, BSNL to Disengage with Contract Workers Even as Quality of Service “Deteriorated”
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has directed its chief general managers (CGM) across its territorial and non-territorial circles to "draw a clear road map for non engagement of contract labours immediately." According to a letter dated September 1, 2020, BSNL CGMs were also told that there was "no justification for housekeeping labourers and other contractual stuff such as security." The operator earlier in May 2020 and September 2019 had asked its CGMs to "take immediate steps" to limit the expenditure on contract works and cut down the engagement of labours through contractors. However, the development has resulted in the BSNL Employees Union (BSNLEU) voicing its concerns to PK Purwar, CMD of BSNL. BSNL Outsourcing Works Led to Spike in Connectivity FaultsThe BSNLEU in a letter to Purwar on Thursday highlighted that several contract workers have already been retrenched in a "big way through the outsourcing of works." "Already reports are being received from many circles that faults have increased and disconnection of landlines and broadband connections have also increased after the implementation of the outsourcing of works," the BSNLEU said in a letter. The main recognised union of BSNL also said that the "necessity to continue" with contract workers "became more compulsory" post the implementation of BSNL Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). It has to be noted that the VRS scheme was part of the government's measure to restructure BSNL with around 79,000 BSNL employees said to have taken voluntary retirement in early 2020. BSNL was then said to have had 1,53,000 employees in early 2020 when the VRS scheme was initially announced. "However, you have decided to retrench thousands of contract workers which have only helped to worsen the maintenance of our networks at the field level," the BSNLEU said. "As a result of this, the quality of our services has undoubtedly deteriorated." The BSNLEU also stated that the financial position of the operator has "worsened" post the implementation of the VRS scheme. It has been said that BSNL has been unable to pay salary to its existing employees on the due date. TelecomTalk on Wednesday reported that BSNL is set to outsource its network maintenance and customer services to keep up with the current "market trends and business requirements." "The BSNL Management may justify it's outsourcing of works by drawing comparison to the private telecom companies, which get most of their works done through outsourcing," the BSNLEU said. "But we wish to remind that BSNL is not a private company, but a state-owned Public Sector Company, having the responsibility of discharging its duties to the nation and its people." The BSNLEU highlighted that the contract workers are not paid "exorbitant wages" and that their wages were in accordance with the rates set by the Ministry of Labour. "As such, there is absolutely no justification for the Management to say that the funds of the Company are going into the drain by way of engaging the contract workers," the BSNLEU said. BSNL Revival Becoming a Distant DreamCrucially, the BSNLEU also said that the "revival of BSNL is becoming a distant dream" as the government's decision to allot 4G spectrum remains only on paper. The BSNLEU said that BSNL was unable to rollout its 4G service even 10 months after the revival package announcement and that it's "the reason why BSNL is not able to increase its revenue." The main recognised union of BSNL said that the operator with its 2G and 3G technologies was able to increase its user base in May while Airtel and Vodafone Idea had lost users, "This only shows that, only the dedicated service being rendered by the work force of BSNL, which undoubtedly includes the contract workers that BSNL has been able to achieve this," the BSNLEU said. "When this being the fact, your decision to completely root-out the contract workers will only land BSNL in a more disastrous situation." Further, the BSNLEU said that the contract workers are a "real contributors to the growth and the development of the company." "Even if the Management considers that a section of the contract workers are redundant, they can be gainfully utilized in the marketing activities, to increase the revenue collection of the Company," the BSNLEU said. | Vodafone Idea Given Extended Time by Trai to Respond to Show Cause Notice Posted: 04 Sep 2020 01:32 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/vodafone-idea-extended-time-trai/294844/, Vodafone Idea Given Extended Time by Trai to Respond to Show Cause Notice
The tussle between Trai and Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) is still going on. Back on August 25, Trai had issued a show-cause notice to the telco in regards to its RedX premium tariff plan. Now Trai has extended the date for Vodafone Idea Limited for responding to the show cause notice till September 8. This is not the first time the date has been extended though. Initially, the date set by Trai for responding was August 31, 2020, but it was later extended to September 4. Now, the date has been further extended to September 8, 2020. Vodafone Idea to Respond to Show Cause Notice by September 8, 2020As per a report from ET Telecom, Trai has extended the date of responding to the show cause notice by September 8, 2020. The show-cause notice issued was over the RedX plan offered by the telco. It is a premium tariff plan claiming to provide higher 4G speeds. Airtel was let off the hook for the same matter since the company was ready to comply with every direction and command of Trai and further modified its plan so that it doesn't violate the regulatory framework. In the show-cause notice issued on August 25, 2020, Trai had asked Vodafone Idea Limited about why there should be no action taken against the company for the violation of the regulatory framework. Trai had pointed out in the letter to VIL that the promise of providing priority service with a faster 4G network is not in compliance with the regulatory framework. The regulator says that the RedX premium tariff offered by Vodafone Idea Limited is not completely transparent and thus will be very misleading to the customers. The plan violates the Telecom Tariff order of 1999 along with the license agreement and technical specifications. Vodafone has until now been firm in its stance of not misleading the customers and has said that the priority service is not a new kind of service thus it didn't need a separate examination by the regulator. But Trai doesn't believe that. It says the offering is a new type of service and it should have been notified as that only. It has been close to five months since the launch of OnePlus 8 series and we are already looking at the OnePlus 8T. A couple of days ago, we first saw the render of the OnePlus 8T with a similar design as the OnePlus 8, but it features a thinner chin. And now, key specifications of the OnePlus 8T are popped online along with tentative launch date. To recall, OnePlus launched the 7T series last year in September. And the tradition might continue with the OnePlus 8T as well as the launch might take place by the end of September or in the first week of October. Leaked specs suggest the OnePlus 8T will also have a 120Hz refresh rate screen similar to the OnePlus 8 Pro. OnePlus 8T: Rumoured Specifications and FeaturesThe informing coming from Android Central suggests the OnePlus 8T will also feature a 6.55-inch AMOLED screen like the OnePlus 8, but the refresh rate will be bumped to 120Hz this time around. For the unaware, the OnePlus 8 offers a 90Hz screen similar to the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus Nord smartphones. Underneath, it will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. That said, we might see the phone in several configurations with up to 12GB of RAM, but nothing is confirmed for now. The handset will run Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 out of the box. | Airtel First Recharge Plan Now Offering Disney+ Hotstar Benefit Posted: 03 Sep 2020 06:34 PM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/airtel-first-recharge-plan-now-disney-benefit/294711/, Airtel First Recharge Plan Now Offering Disney+ Hotstar Benefit
Airtel offers its new customers first recharge plans. First recharge (FRC) plans are those which can only be utilised by the new customers or customers recharging for the first time on their SIM. There are a total of five plans offered by the telco to the new customers. Much recently, Airtel announced its new first recharge plan which comes with the benefit of Disney+ Hotstar VIP for one year. This FRC is priced at Rs 499. There are four more plans priced at Rs 297, Rs 497, Rs 647, and Rs 197. Let us go through each of them one by one. Airtel First Recharge PlansLet's start with the cheapest FRC plan on offer from Airtel. It is priced at Rs 197. Since it is cheap, it comes with fewer benefits and a shorter validity. The Rs 197 plan has a validity of 28 days only and comes with unlimited calling to any network within India. Along with that, there is 2GB data and a total of 300 SMS included in the benefits. Coming to the second plan, it is priced at Rs 297. This plan also has the same validity of 28 days. But it provides the customer with 1.5GB daily data along with 100 SMS/day. The customer gets unlimited calling to any network with this plan as well. Then there is the Rs 497 plan. The Rs 497 plan comes with a total validity of 56 days. Along with that, the plan also offers unlimited calling to any network within India, 100 SMS/day, and 1.5GB daily data. So it comes with the same benefits as of the Rs 297 FRC plan but has exact double validity. The last two plans are of Rs 499 and Rs 647. Starting with the Rs 499 plan, as mentioned above it is a new addition in the offerings by Airtel. It is the only FRC plan which comes with the benefit of Disney+ Hotstar VIP for one year. But it has a validity of only 28 days. You do get 3GB daily data along with unlimited calling to any network within India and 100 SMS/day. Lastly, the Rs 647 FRC plan is the most expensive plan offered under the category by Airtel. It does have the longest validity amongst all the plans mentioned above as well. The plan has a validity of 84 days. It comes with unlimited calling benefit and provides customers with 1.5GB daily data and 100 SMS/day as well. This plan is good for people who are seeking plans with longer validities. Original article: Airtel First Recharge Plan Now Offering Disney+ Hotstar Benefit ©2020 TelecomTalk. All Rights Reserved. |
