Supreme Court a few days back announced its decision on the matter of AGR dues. The apex court said that the telcos will have to pay all the remaining dues in the coming decade starting next financial year. Before that, each telco will have to pay the 10% dues in advance so the 90% will be left for the next 10 years. This clarity on the decision of AGR dues case has eased things up for the telecom industry. Now companies and the industry know where they stand and how to proceed from there. This is going to revive the investment cycle in the 4G network for the Indian telcos. VIL, Jio, and Bharti Airtel to Compete Against Each Other in a Growing MarketVodafone Idea Limited, Reliance Jio, and Bharti Airtel are going to continue competing against each other in the still growing Indian telecom space. BSNL is yet to arrive with its 4G plans. The network gear makers will now expect a lesser risk in Vodafone Idea Limited defaulting on its payments. VIL has to pay about Rs 50,000 crore in AGR dues. According to a report from ET Telecom, now with clarity on the AGR dues case, the telcos can resume raising investments. VIL is going to raise Rs 25,000 crore and has confirmed that it is not looking to exit the telecom space any time soon. Edelweiss believes that the rate of tenancy cancellations will drop from the FY21 third quarter. One of the spokespersons from Nokia said that the company will now be able to look ahead of the AGR dues issue and the Finnish vendor believes that the telecom sector will be one of the major contributors to the economy of the country. But one of the biggest positives that the industry and vendors are going to be relieved about is not worrying about telcos defaulting on their payments. VIL has confirmed its stance with aggressive fundraising that it is seriously looking to grow as a company in the next few years and compete with Jio and Airtel. VIL is going to survive the shock of the AGR dues and that will be a boost for the industry and the economy in the coming time. The Poco X3 NFC has been launched in multiple variants and the European prices start at 229 Euro. The handset will also make its debut in India as Poco India GM C Manmohan has asked the Poco fans to retweet the global announcement of the Poco X3 NFC. | OnePlus Nord Review After 30 Days: An Almost Perfect Mid-Range Smartphone Posted: 07 Sep 2020 06:28 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/oneplus-nord-review-after-30-days/295625/, OnePlus Nord Review After 30 Days: An Almost Perfect Mid-Range Smartphone
It has been quite some time since OnePlus Nord launched. I have been using the device for more than 30 days now, and overall, the device is quite impressive. Yes, there are places where the device could have been a little better, but looking at the price at which it sells, there is not too much to complain. OnePlus is known for bringing powerful devices at low price points and the company has done it again. The OnePlus 8 was the first affordable flagship to start at above Rs 40,000 in India from the smartphone manufacturer. To keep the customers who wanted cheaper smartphones happy, OnePlus released the OnePlus Nord back in July in India. Unlike the OnePlus 8 series, the OnePlus Nord makes use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset and it is 5G compatible as well. Let's take a look at the complete OnePlus Nord review after 30 days. OnePlus Nord Review: Design and DisplayOnePlus has been very clever at designing its smartphones since its inception. It is no different with the OnePlus Nord. Even though the smartphone dons a plastic frame, you don't get the feel of holding cheap plastic. You still feel as if you are holding something premium in your hands, thanks to the glass back. To complement the design, OnePlus has introduced the OnePlus Nord in attractive new colours — Blue Marble and Gray Onyx. While the Gray Onyx is simple and sober and not much flashy, Blue Marble stands out from the rest of the crowd. If you are carrying the Blue Marble variant with you, it will be hard for people to ignore it.
Coming back to the design of the body, the bezels are relatively thin, and there is a dual-punch hole housing two front cameras. The volume rocker is located on the left side of the body. The classic ringer switch aka alert slider of OnePlus is on the right side of the body along with the power button. Both in the bottom and top, microphones are located, and the speaker is placed on the bottom. There is a USB 2.0 Type-C port in the bottom along with a dual-SIM card tray. The OnePlus Nord has a 6.44-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixel) AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 20:9. This smartphone can support up to 90Hz display. OnePlus Nord has one of the best displays in the mid-range smartphone segment. The high refresh rate is going to make things smoother and faster for you on the screen. With the support and optimisation of OxygenOS, things look perfect in the display of the OnePlus Nord. Even gaming feels smooth in the OnePlus Nord because of its display. The in-display fingerprint scanner is high-speed and accurate. It does re-scan in about every 10-12 scans, but that should not be a problem for any user and is better than most of the smartphones in the mid-range segment.
Even though the phone sports a 6.44-inch screen, it feels compact when taken into hands, especially for a person who’s coming from the OnePlus 8 Pro which feels bulky and also features a massive screen. OnePlus Nord Review: Performance and SoftwareThe OnePlus Nord, despite missing out the flagship Snapdragon 865 chipset does have the power to make heavy usage of the smartphone possible. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, which also offers 5G network connectivity, but it is pretty much useless in India right now. There are different configurations you can get the device in. There are 6GB, 8GB and a 12GB RAM variants with 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB of internal storage. Supporting the Snapdragon 765G is the Adreno 620 for faster rendering of the graphics. It will help the smartphone in ensuring a smooth gameplay experience. The Snapdragon 765G is not a slow chip. It may not be as fast as the Snapdragon 865, but when compared the performance, it does come near the Snapdragon 845 that was used on the OnePlus 6 and 6T smartphones. Day-to-day performance of OnePlus Nord is really good, thanks to OxygenOS. The phone runs on OxygenOS 10 based on Android 10 out of the box. It has received multiple OTA updates over the last few weeks which improved the overall system performance.
OnePlus Nord Review: CamerasOnePlus claimed that it had released the OnePlus Nord with the same flagship camera it released the OnePlus 8 series with. There is a quad-camera setup in the rear of the device and a dual selfie camera in the front. The primary lens in the quad-camera setup is a 48MP sensor which is capable of clicking some decent pictures. Everything in the images shot by the 48MP sensor is sharp, but colour accuracy seems to be missing in most of the pictures.
Coming to the other cameras, there is an 8MP ultra-wide angle sensor which needs some serious software tweaking. The quality of the images shot by it drops significantly. You will notice reduced sharpness in the images. Along with that, the software from OnePlus isn't doing a great job as well. Talking about the other two cameras, it feels as if OnePlus added those two just to make it a quad-camera setup. The images are of poor quality, and if you take clicking pictures very seriously, you will not be happy with the pictures that are shot by the macro and the telephoto lens. For selfies though, you will like the OnePlus Nord. There is a dual selfie camera setup of 32MP+8MP installed in the smartphone, and they are quite good at capturing images and moments. The only thing is, there is over the top processing of the images from OnePlus, so you might just not get the picture you want. But you can click a variety of images and see if there are any good ones to select from since the images shot by the front camera of the smartphone are more of a hit and miss thing. Click to view slideshow.OnePlus Nord Review: BatteryThe smartphone manufacturer has loaded the OnePlus Nord with a 4115mAh battery. It comes with the support for Warp Charge 30T (30W), so you don't have to worry about slow charging anymore. However, the OnePlus Nord doesn't have a very impressive battery life though. OxygenOS is optimised to reduce the battery consumption yet offer a seamless and robust performance to the user. But with the OnePlus Nord, the battery performance is relatively standard. On a normal 4G usage, the phone did not last for a single day and the screen-on-time was less than five hours, which is underwhelming. It is safe to say the OnePlus Nord probably has the worst battery life for a phone with 4115mAh cell. While battery life was a major concern, charging is not an issue with the Warp Charge 30T. The OnePlus Nord can charge from 0-100% in a matter of 57 minutes. So if you are in a rush, even a few minutes of charging can help you out. OnePlus Nord Review: Price and VerdictThe OnePlus Nord is offered in three different variants – 6GB+64GB for Rs 24,999, 8GB+128GB for Rs 27,999, and at last 12GB+256GB for Rs 29,999. It is arguably one of the best mid-range smartphones in the market at the moment. You get OxygenOS running on top of Android 10 and a 90Hz AMOLED screen which is probably one of the best in the price range. The smartphone can support 5G, so it is future proof, and along with that, you can also use it heavily (in terms of performance, not battery wise). The OnePlus Nord is the perfect smartphone even though it doesn't have the best camera for the mid-range segment. You get everything you can want out of a smartphone at a lower price but with a premium feel along with guaranteed software updates. | Tariff Rates Are Still Unsustainably Low: Vodafone Idea Posted: 07 Sep 2020 05:58 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/tariff-rates-unsustainably-low-vodafone/295623/, Tariff Rates Are Still Unsustainably Low: Vodafone Idea
Vodafone Idea on Monday said that the existing tariff prices in the telecom sector is "still unsustainably low" despite the operator along with its rivals increasing the tariffs in December 2019. The company highlighted the tariff rates in its annual report for the period ended March 31, 2020 that Vodafone Idea released on Monday. Vodafone Idea said that the operating environment remained challenging throughout the 2020 financial year largely due to the "unsustainable pricing and hyper competition." Further, the company said that the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) verdict delivered by the Supreme Court "also added to the financial woes of telecom operators." Telecom Tariffs Are "Still Very Low" Despite Tariff Hikes in December 2019Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of Vodafone Idea, said in the letter to shareholders that the existing tariffs are "still very low" despite its hike in December 2019. "Tariffs are still very low and therefore pricing revival is critical for the long-term growth of the sector," Birla said. However, Birla added that the increase in the content consumption is "driving strong data demand" and that it will provide a "significant opportunity" to all the industry operators when the "pricing revives." Crucially, Birla said that the Vodafone Idea with its "largest spectrum portfolio" along with its network investments in the form of network sites and optical fiber is "very well positioned to be benefited in the evolving market place." Birla said that Vodafone Idea "continues to focus on driving 4G penetration to increase" average revenue per user (ARPU). "The pricing action coupled with increasing migration to unlimited/ 4G has led to improvement in ARPU," Vodafone Idea said in its annual report. "While the price hike is a step in the right direction, tariffs are still unsustainably low despite offering much higher value compared to past." Vodafone Focusing on Multiple Initiatives to Improve Profitability and RevenuesVodafone Idea said that it is focusing on "various strategic initiatives" such as rapid integration between Vodafone and Idea networks to improve revenue and profitability along with strengthening its position in the market. Further, the company said that the strategic initiatives include expansion of its 4G coverage and data capacity in its "major markets." The company also highlighted that it has consolidated its postpaid services into a single Vodafone Red brand and that its RedX plan has "excellent industry first features to attract high ARPU" users. | Vodafone Idea Switches to “Vi” Brand Identity, Completes Network Integration Posted: 07 Sep 2020 12:17 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/vodafone-idea-new-single-brand-identity/295538/, Vodafone Idea Switches to “Vi” Brand Identity, Completes Network Integration
Vodafone and Idea brands today announced the completion of network integration which both the brands started back in 2018. Vodafone Idea Limited today marked the completion of the world’s largest network integration with the launch of a single brand identity- “Vi” (read as “We”). The telco also introduced a new logo to represent a single brand. The new slogan for the brand is ‘Better and Brighter Tomorrow.’ The new identity was always coming as the telco brought Idea Nirvana postpaid customers to Vodafone RED branding, and very recently, we saw a single prepaid recharge option for both the customers. All these years, Vodafone and Idea acted as separate brands, but going forward, they will have a single brand identity Vi. Vi: The New Single Brand Identity for Vodafone and IdeaA press statement from Vi states the integration of Vodafone and Idea is a culmination of the largest telecom integration in the world. Besides unveiling the new brand identity, the telco did not reveal any new postpaid or prepaid plans. However, all the prepaid users of Vodafone Idea will be able to recharge their mobile number by selecting the 'Vodafone Idea' option across all the platforms. As we already know, postpaid customers of the company are already moved under the 'Red' branding. The company also stated that the new identity would mark a fresh start to the telecom operator which is currently plagued with financial issues. The company now has a new website (https://www.myvi.in/) and a revamped mobile app as well.
The completion of network integration and the single brand identity will help the company provide superior network experience and better customer services to the customers. Yesterday, we revealed that the brand would soon launch ‘Vi Mini Stores’ across the country to serve the customers better. Ever since the network integration between Vodafone and Idea networks started, a lot of customers faced issues, but hopefully, Vodafone Idea will serve its users better in the coming years thanks to a single brand. So you will have to get the subscription separately if you don't have one already. But you still need data after getting the subscription, this is where Vodafone will cover for you. You can get the Rs 699 prepaid plan from the telco and with that currently get 2GB extra daily data on top the original 2GB data that a customer is supposed to get. So you will be getting 4GB data daily so even if there are two matches in a day, you won't have to worry about exhausting your data because you will have plenty of it. This plan also comes with the benefit of Vodafone Play and ZEE5 Premium for one year and has a validity of 84 days. There is unlimited calling along with 100 SMS/day included.
