Telegram, the cloud-based multi-platform messenger app on Thursday introduced a new update with features such as search filter and channel comments. The company also said that the update also includes the ability to support anonymous group admins and that "few more" features will also be made available to the users. Telegram said that the update is intended in enabling the group and channel admins to "make their forums interactive and safer than before." Further, it was said that the features introduced in the update will enable the users and groups to easily manage the shared content. Search Filter to Aid Users in Searching for Specific MessagesThe company said that the search filter now introduced on the platform enables users to search for specific messages categorized into six different tabs including chats, media, links, files, music and voice messages. "Users can now search for any specific message in regards to a particular time period, a person, a Group, a Channel, or a Bot and the app will add a filter by source of the message," Telegram said in a release. "For example, "John" + "15th August" to find a specific media link shared by John on that specific day." The channel comments feature also introduced on the update is said to enable users to post comments on channels turning it "more interactive." The Telegram channels earlier limited users from voicing their opinions, however, the users can now add voice messages, stickers or even add GIFs to posts. "These comments can be further limited by the admins to keep the civil code of conduct intact amongst participants," Telegram said in the release. Channel Comments Limited to Discussion Groups on Telegram ChannelThe company also highlighted that the channel comments feature are only limited to channels where a separate discussion group is linked within the channel. "Users are re-directed to a separate group where they can see and reply to the comments made by their fellow members, and moreover it becomes easier for the admins to manage," Telegram said in the release. Further, the anonymous group admin feature is said to enable admins to turn anonymous within a group. The feature was earlier applicable on Telegram Channels and is now said to be rolling out to Telegram groups. Telegram has consistently rolled out new features in the past few months. In June, Telegram introduced a two-step verification feature to protect the app data. Further, the company also introduced profile videos and unlimited file sharing up to 2GB per file through an update in July. | Telecom Operators Need to Clear AGR Dues Before Transferring Rights of Spectrum Use Posted: 01 Oct 2020 01:43 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/telecoms-clear-agr-dues-before-transferring-spectrum/301733/, Telecom Operators Need to Clear AGR Dues Before Transferring Rights of Spectrum Use
The government of India is all set to oppose transfer of the right to use spectrum of bankrupt operators like Reliance Communications and Aircel unless their statutory dues are cleared. The apex court during the hearing of AGR dues matter had also asked whether operators under Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) can sell its spectrum to another telecom company. The answer to that question isn't clear yet. However, ET Telecom in a report provided more insight into the government's position on the issue. The government is said to believe that until and unless the operators cleared all of its statutory dues (AGR dues in this case), the company doesn't have the right to sell the spectrum. Speaking to the publication, the government officials have highlighted that the operators such as Reliance Communications and Aircel are first required to clear the dues they owe to the government. It was said that after the clearing of the dues, the operators can then transfer the right to use of spectrum to another telecom operator. NCLAT to Decide Whether Telcos Can Sell Spectrum Under IBCIn a hearing last week, the Supreme Court had said that it leaves the matter in the hands of NCLAT (National Company law Appellate Tribunal). The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had said if the insolvent companies are not paying the dues, then under the insolvency proceedings, the parties which buy the spectrum from them will have to pay it. So in this case, for both RCom and Aircel, UV Asset Restructuring Company (UVARCL) will be liable to clear the dues. The telecom operators earlier in the AGR dues hearing had asked the Supreme Court to see the spectrum as an asset of the company which can be monetised under IBC. If DoT is handed over the spectrum in case the dues can't be cleared, then DoT may auction it for a higher price. But the question that arises is, who will buy it?Another problem that this case is creating for the insolvent companies is faster monetisation of assets. The hearing in NCLAT will decide which way the decision would go. RBI had earlier stalled the plans of UV Asset Reconstruction Company for Aircel. A government official commenting on the same matter said that the final nod for the sale of the spectrum has to come from the government. It is reported that Aircel owes Rs 14,000 crore and RCom owes Rs 26,000 crore in AGR dues. | Vi (Vodafone Idea) Might Increase the Tariffs for Prepaid and Postpaid Plans in Near Future Posted: 30 Sep 2020 10:36 PM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/vi-tariffs-prepaid-postpaid-plans-future/301688/, Vi (Vodafone Idea) Might Increase the Tariffs for Prepaid and Postpaid Plans in Near Future
The Indian telecom industry desperately needs the help of tariff hikes, believes Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of Vi. Birla said in the Vi Annual General Meeting on Wednesday that India's telecom sector depends on higher tariff rates for its future growth. The Indian telecom industry was among the worst economically hit industries during the COVID19 pandemic and received another setback in the form of AGR verdict. The telcos plea for a reassessment of the AGR dues was earlier denied by the Supreme Court. However, the apex court in early September allowed the operators to clear the dues in the next 10 years. Higher Tariff Rates May Around the Corner for Vi CustomersBirla believes that even after the tariff hikes which took place last December, it is not sufficient for the growth of the telecom operator. Vi is in need of a lot of cash and the telco is going to raise up to Rs 25,000 crore via debt and equity very soon. But in order to grow in the long-term, Vi needs to generate higher Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). Keeping this reason in its pocket, Vi might increase the tariff rates for its offerings very soon. The telco has to pay more than Rs 50,000 crore to the government in the form of AGR dues in the next 10 years. For this, ample cash flow is required to keep the company profitable, hence the requirement of tariff hikes. Vi recently announced that it is upgrading all of its 3G customers in select telecom circles to 4G network. It has been said that the switch to the 4G network will happen in a phased manner. The operator also completed the world's largest network integration and has named it GIGAnet. It is said that the recent developments including the switch to 4G networks will help Vi to increase its ARPU and profitability in the long-term. Vi has also struck a sponsorship deal with the BCCI for the Dream 11 Indian Premier League (IPL). The Indian telecom operators have not officially confirmed whether the tariff hike will take place or not, but the analysts have said that the tariff hikes are required for the industry. Sunil Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Airtel also believes that a tariff hike is needed to help the telecom industry grow.
