Reliance Jio has just announced JioPages, a new web browser completely developed in India. The new browsing app is built on the powerful Chromium Blink engine which will ensure a faster experience for the user. It is completely conceptualised and designed within India. JioPages will offer users best-in-class webpage rendering, efficient media streaming, and an encrypted connection amongst other things. One thing that you should note is that JioPages is currently only available for Android devices. There is actually a lot more a user can get from this browsing application by Jio. More on the story ahead.

JioPages Key Features You Should Know About

Users will get the flexibility to customise the app as per their wish. They can set a personalised home screen. Users can select through any of the major search platforms such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, and more and set it as their default search engine. Just like in Chrome, users can pin their favourite websites on the home screen for faster access.

There is added support for changing the browser's theme to 'Dark Mode' and set it as the default one. There are other colourful backgrounds available for the app as well. JioPages is built with smartness. Just like Google Chrome, this browser will make a personalised content feed for the user. The app will only send notifications about the topics that the user is interested in.

One of the cool features of JioPages is 'Informative Cards'. An informative card will capture important figures, symbols, and headlines of a given topic and display them as a clickable banner for the user. Interested users can click on them and be directed to another page.

JioPaages Supports 8 Regional Languages

JioPages has been developed with keeping in mind the diversity India has. The browsing app comes with the support of 8 Indian languages, namely Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, and Bengali. Users will also get the option to customise their feed as per the state they are living in. Once the user selects his/her state, he/she will get to see all the popular websites of that state on their screen.

For making the management of files easy, the advanced download manager categorises the file into different types such as video, image, pages, or document. Also, for safe browsing, there is 'Secured Incognito Mode' available for the users. The users can set up a pin-code or fingerprint to access the incognito mode whenever they want.

One of the best features of the app is 'Ad Blocker'. It blocks all the unsolicited ads and pop-ups on the screen to provide the users seamless browsing experience. The app is available to be downloaded from the Play Store in Android devices.

reliance-jio-stbs-set-integrate-netflix-app
Netflix, the American streaming company on Tuesday said that it will be providing "everyone" in India a complimentary access to its services "for a weekend." The development was shared by Gregory Peters, chief operating officer and chief product officer at Netflix in its third quarter earnings call. Peters said that the company hopes to "create an event" and "get a bunch" of people to sign up for its services. Netflix said that the subscriber growth had "slowed" down in its third quarter with the company adding 2.2 million paid subscribers in the quarter as compared to 6.8 million in the same period in 2019.

Netflix to Offer Complimentary Access to Everyone in India

Despite the company having a slow third quarter, Netflix highlighted that it has added 28.1 million paid subscribers in the first nine months of 2020. In the same time period in the previous year, the company is said to have added 27.8 million paid users. Netflix said that the increase in the subscriber additions in 2020 is "primarily" due to its "record" first two quarters of its current financial year.

"We think that giving everyone in a country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have, the service, how the service works, really create an event, and hopefully get a bunch of those folks to sign up," Peters said in the third quarter earnings call.

The chief operating officer said that the company is "excited" about the idea of providing "everyone" complimentary access to its services for one weekend.

"So we’re going to try that in India and we’ll see how that goes," Peters said. "And that’s just an example of the kind of innovation that we seek to do in this space."

Netflix Seeks to Achieve More Success in India

The company in its letter to the shareholders said that the Asia Pacific (APAC) region "was the largest contributor" to its paid subscribers growth during the third quarter.

"We're pleased with the progress we're making in this region and, in particular, that we've achieved double-digit penetration of broadband homes in both South Korea and Japan," the company said. "While this is encouraging, we still have much work to do and we’re working hard to replicate this success in India and other countries."

Netflix also said that its non-fiction series, Indian Matchmaking was "watched by a quarter" of its members in India and "millions" of users outside India in its initial four weeks.

"We continue to invest heavily in local language content because we believe that great stories are universal: they can come from anywhere and be loved everywhere," the company said.

Netflix also highlighted its partnership with the largest wireless operator in India, Reliance Jio. The partnership between the two companies has enabled the wireless operator to bundle Netflix service on its mobile and fiber broadband plans.

"As part of this broad partnership, we'll integrate Netflix with two of Jio's set-top boxes," the company said. "We've also partnered with financial institutions in India to make payment processing easier and more seamless for our members, which we expect will have retention benefits."

It has to be noted that Netflix in its third-quarter also "localized" its service with the platform extending the support to Hindi in its user interface.

ACT Fibernet Enhances Broadband Plans in Delhi

As of press time on Monday, ACT Fibernet has listed three broadband plans in Delhi with the plans providing enhanced data limits to its users as compared to previous weeks.

The entry tier plan dubbed as "ACT Silver Promo" enables users to browse up to 100 Mbps speed till 1000GB with the operator restricting the speeds to 512 Kbps upon reaching the limit. However, the operator in the recent weeks has been offering 1000GB additional data on all its plans with the bonus data still said to be applicable post the revamp on Tuesday. The ACT Silver Promo is priced at Rs 799 per month with the plan earlier offering 500GB as monthly data to the users.

The operator has now positioned its "ACT Platinum Promo" as the mid-tier plan to its users in Delhi. The ACT Platinum Promo plan priced at Rs 1049 per month enables users to browse at 200 Mbps speed till 2000GB with the operator currently providing 1000GB as bonus data. The users subscribed to the ACT Platinum Promo will be restricted to 1 Mbps upon reaching the data limit while the plan earlier offered 1000GB as monthly data.

ACT Diamond Currently Listed as Top-Tier Plan in Delhi

The "ACT Diamond" plan priced at Rs 1349 per month is now listed as the top-tier plan in Delhi with the plan enabling users to browse at 300 Mbps till 3000GB. Similar to the other two plans listed on ACT Fibernet portal for Delhi, the ACT Diamond plan also offers 1000GB bonus data to users. The ACT Diamond plan earlier offered 1500GB as monthly data with the operator restricting the speed to 2 Mbps upon a user reaching the data limit.

It has to be noted that the operator has not increased the prices of its new entry-level, mid-tier and top-tier plans in Delhi. fibre-cuts-pull-down-vi-southern-region
Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest wireless operator in India restored its services in Kerala late Tuesday after "multiple fibre cuts" resulted in the disruption of its network in the region. According to multiple Vi users on Twitter, there was a network outage on Tuesday between 4 pm to 6 pm. Further, select Vi users have also highlighted that it was the "second time" that they faced the network outage in the week. Down Detector, a website that detects the failure of various services highlights that Vi users in several cities in South India including Chennai, Kochi and Thrissur had issues connecting to the Vi network.

Vi Network Goes Down South, Services Restored

Mahshook Abdul, a Twitter user said that the Vi network was totally down in Chattanchal, a town in Kasaragod district in Kerala. Another user, Jacob on Twitter said that he was not able to receive Vi signal at his location in Alappuzha district in Kerala.

It has also been reported that Vi service was disrupted across select cities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on Tuesday.

In a statement to TelecomTalk, Vi said that "multiple fibre cuts" caused "some disruption" in its services in the region.

"There was some disruption in our services due to multiple fibre cuts in the southern region," the operator said in its statement. "While we have restored the services now, we are also working with the investigating authorities to find out the cause of these fibre cuts."

Multiple Network Outages on Vi in Past Week

The operator in the past week also had a network outage across select cities in Maharashtra due to heavy showers in Pune. Vi said that the showers in Pune resulted in the "flooding" of the operator's "key sites" in the city causing "partial disruption" in its services for select users across the state.

The third-largest wireless operator in India had then said that its technical team had "worked non-stop" and "deployed interim solutions" to restore voice and data services in the state.

tata-sky-broadband-rs2400-long-term-plans
On choosing long-term broadband plans from Tata Sky, users can effectively save up to Rs 2,400. Much recently, Tata Sky updated its broadband offerings and changed the fair usage policy (FUP) for data offered with its plans. Along with this, the internet service provider (ISP) also added a free landline connection for the users which was missing with its broadband plans for a long time. Tata Sky offers a number of broadband plans with different benefits to the users. When users go for long-term plans, they can save a lot of money. Keep reading ahead to find out about how long-term plans from Tata Sky can help you save money.

Tata Sky Long-Term Plans Come at a Discounted Rate

Tata Sky offers its long-term plans at a discount to the users. Users looking to get a new broadband connection get to choose from four monthly plans where the speed ranges from 100 Mbps to 300 Mbps.

Talking about the 300 Mbps plan, it comes for Rs 1,500 when users want it for a month. But with long-term and even medium-term validity, the price of this plan changes and actually becomes lesser. There is no change in the price when the user purchases this plan for 3 months. He has to pay Rs 4,500 for the 3 months which still equates to Rs 1,500 per month.

However, users opting for a 6 months validity need to pay Rs 8,400 for this plan. This equates to Rs 1,400/month. So there is a discount of Rs 100/month. Users purchasing this plan for 12 months get a discount of Rs 2,400. They need to pay a total of Rs 15,600 for the 300 Mbps plan when they purchase it for 12 months. Normally, purchasing the plan on a monthly basis would mean that the user would be paying Rs 18,000 in 12 months for this plan.

This goes the same with other broadband plans on offer from Tata Sky. The 150 Mbps speed plan from Tata Sky Broadband comes for Rs 950/month, Rs 2,700 for 3 months (imputing a discount of Rs 50/month), Rs 5,100 for 6 months (imputing a discount of Rs 100/month), and Rs 9,600 for 12 months (imputing a discount of Rs 150/month).

The base plan which comes with 100 Mbps speed comes for Rs 850/month. But when purchased for 3 months, its price is Rs 2,400, giving users a discount of Rs 50/month. For 6 months, its price becomes Rs 5,100 meaning a discount of Rs 100/month. Then for 12 months, the user needs to pay Rs 8,400 (imputing a discount of Rs 150/month).

The last plan offers 200 Mbps speed. Its monthly cost is Rs 1,050 and for 3 months it comes at a discount of Rs 50/month for Rs 3,000. But for 6 months, the plan's discount rises to Rs 125/month and it comes for Rs 5,550. Lastly, for 12 months, the price of this plan becomes Rs 15,600 (imputing a discount of 200/month).
