Tim Cook, chief executive officer of Apple in the company earnings call on Thursday said that Apple had set a September quarter sales record in India. The iPhone maker on Thursday announced its financial results for its fiscal 2020 fourth quarter ended September 26, 2020 with Apple posting a "record" September quarter revenue of US$64.7 billion. Apple said that its quarterly earnings per diluted share for its fourth quarter hit US$0.73 with its international sales accounting for 59% of the quarter's revenue.

Apple Services, Mac Revenues Reach "All-Time High"

The company in its earnings release said that its Services and Mac revenues reached "new all-time high" as it registered a record September quarter revenues.

"Our Services set an all-time record of $14.5 billion, growing 16% year-over-year," Luca Maestri, chief financial officer at Apple, said in the earnings call."[Mac] revenue was by far an all-time record at $9 billion, up 29% over last year and $1.6 billion above our previous record, in spite of supply constraints during the quarter."

In its services segment, Maestri said that the company registered double digit growth in App Store, cloud services, music, advertising and payment services. Maestri also said that the company "set an all-time record" in Apple Care with its other services including Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+ and Apple Card also "contributing" to Services growth.

Further, Maestri highlighted in the earnings call that the company has seen "amazing customer response" to its new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models during the quarter.

"We grew strong double digits in each geographic segment and set all time revenue records in the Americas, and the rest of Asia Pacific, as well as September quarter records in Europe and Japan," Maestri said.

Apple Sets September Quarter Sales Record in India

In the region wise breakdown, Maestri said that the company was able to achieve September quarter records in multiple countries including India.

"We also achieved new September quarter records in the vast majority of countries that we track, including among others, The U.S., Canada, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Russia, India, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam," Maestri said.

The company in late September unveiled its online store in India with users offered financing options and trade-in programs.

"We also set a September quarter record in India, thanks in part to a very strong reception to this quarter's launch of our online store in the country," Cook said in the earnings call.

Canalys, an independent analyst company in mid October said that Apple has "regained momentum" in India in the third quarter of 2020. The firm said that the Cupertino company had shipped 800,000 units in India in the third quarter of 2020.

"Apple is finally paying attention to India," Rushabh Doshi, Canalys Research Director, said in a release. "It has opened a direct online store, giving it several new angles in its go-to-market strategy, such as utilizing device trade-ins to provide purchase incentives, or bundling AirPods with iPhones to make them more appealing."

Counterpoint Research, a global industry analysis firm on Wednesday said that Apple led the premium segment in India "surpassing OnePlus even before its flagship launch." The firm said that the premium segment covers devices priced above Rs 30,000 with Apple's performance "driven by strong demand for its iPhone SE 2020 and the iPhone 11."

However, Apple on Thursday highlighted that its sales in the Greater China region was down 29% in the quarter ended September 26, 2020. The company said that the dip in its sales in the Greater China region was due to the lack of new iPhones during the quarter.

"Greater China is the region that was most heavily impacted by the absence of the new iPhones during the September quarter, still we beat our internal expectations in the region, growing non-iPhone revenue strong double digits and iPhone customer demand grew mid-September," Cook said in the earnings call.

While the Greater China region has long been a crucial market for Apple, the company in the recent quarters has seen its sales dip in the region. With India and other regions setting a new sales record, it remains to be seen whether Apple continues to remain bullish on the Greater China region or shifts its focus to regions like India.

5 GHz Routers, Benefits and Things You Must Know About Them

5ghz-routers-benefits-things-you-must-know
5G routers are becoming quite popular amongst Indians now. The speciality about these routers is that they come with dual channels namely 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Either of these channels can provide you with high-speed internet comfortably. These routers are also capable of handling gigabit-speed plans. While people are used to the 2.4 GHz router with the band providing good speeds, they are nothing like the 5 GHz routers. If you are unaware about what a 5G router is, keep reading ahead.

What is a 5G Router?

The dual-band routers come with two network channels, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The 5 GHz channel is a relatively newer one and can provide faster speeds to the user. This is what a 5G router basically is. A 5G router is a one which can provide users with the option to connect to a 5 GHz channel. It is much faster than the 2.4 GHz band and is the ideal one to get if you need high-speed connectivity for your home.

Benefits of 5 GHz Routers

The thing with 2.4 GHz band is that the user can only get up to 600 Mbps speed using that. But with a 5 GHz router, that limitation is not there. With a 5 GHz band, you can get up to 1,300 Mbps speeds. So if you plan to get a gigabit-speed plan, then a 5 GHz band router is the ideal option for you.

Another benefit of using a 5G router is that you don't get network congestion. The 2.4 GHz band is a much common one when it comes to Wi-Fi routers, thus users will get more network congestion with it. But with the 5 GHz, it would be much less since it is still fairly new and a lot of people are yet to adapt to it.

One other advantage of using a 5G router is that it has dual bands for connectivity. Thus the user can also use old devices which only support 2.4 GHz band connectivity.

However, there is one limitation to the 5 GHz band. It is that its range of connectivity is fairly shorter than the 2.4 GHz. That is why it helps the user if they pick a router with dual-band connectivity. Whenever they are far from the router, they can connect to the 2.4 GHz band and when they are near the router, they can connect to the 5 GHz band.

One thing that you should do is check if the Wi-Fi adapter of your device supports the 802.11a connectivity. Because without that, a 5G router is of no use. So if you want to upgrade to a 5G router right away, don't shy away, it is the right time to do it.

bsnl-rs1999-prepaid-plan-long-term-plans
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) much recently extended the validity of its Rs 1,999 prepaid plan. Now the plan comes with a validity of 425 days as compared to the 365 days it earlier offered. With the extended validity, this plan becomes more fruitful for the user. Thus it becomes interesting to see what Jio, Airtel, and Vi (Vodafone Idea) are offering compared to the Rs 1,999 plan from BSNL. So today, we are taking the Rs 2,595 plan from Vi, Rs 2,498 plan from Airtel, and Rs 2,121 plan from Jio and will compare these with the Rs 1,999 plan from BSNL. This is because these plans are closest to what BSNL is offering with the Rs 1,999 plan. Keep reading ahead to find out more about this.

BSNL Rs 1,999 Plan

The BSNL Rs 1,999 plan offers users 3GB daily data along with unlimited calling (250 minutes every day), and 100 SMS per day. Along with this, there are additional benefits such as an option to change the caller tune as many times as the user wants in addition to Lokdhum content for 365 days and EROS Now subscription for 2 months. The validity of this plan has changed to 425 days from the earlier 365 days.

Vi Rs 2,595 Plan

The Rs 2,595 plan from Vi offers users 2GB daily data with unlimited calling and 100 SMS per day. This plan also comes with additional benefits such as 1-year access to ZEE5 Premium, Vi Movies & TV in addition to assured cash bonus on MPL and discount on ordering from Zomato. Also, this plan now comes with the 'Weekend Data Rollover' offer of Vi. The validity of this plan is 365 days.

Jio Rs 2,121 Plan

The Rs 2,121 plan from Reliance Jio comes with a validity of 336 days. With that, the users get 1.5GB daily data along with unlimited voice calling, 12,000 fair-usage-policy (FUP) minutes and 100 SMS per day. Users also get complimentary access to all the Jio apps with this plan.

Airtel Rs 2,498 Plan

The Rs 2,498 plan from Airtel offers users 2GB daily data and unlimited voice calling to any network within India. With that, the users also get a subscription of Airtel Xstream Premium, Free Hellotunes, Wynk Music, 1-year access to Shaw Academy, and Rs 150 cashback on FASTag transaction. The validity of this plan is 365 days.

BSNL Rs 1,999 Plan the Clear Winner?

If solely looked at the number of benefits users receive, there is no doubt that BSNL's Rs 1999 plan has won the race as it is cheap in comparison and offers more data. But the only issue is, it is 3G data while other operators offer their long-term plans with 4G data. Thus, if you are happy with still using 3G, you can go with the Rs 1,999 prepaid plan from BSNL to obtain maximum benefits.
