Reliance Jio, the largest wireless operator in India now enables users to carry forward their credit limit from their existing operators to Jio at "absolutely zero cost." The development is on the heels of the operator in late September introducing its JioPostpaid Plus plans in multiple tiers priced in the range of Rs 399 to Rs 1499. The JioPostpaid Plus plans are bundled with multiple features such as complimentary access to Over-the-Top (OTT) apps including Netflix Mobile, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar subscription. Postpaid Users Can Carry Forward Their Existing Credit Limit to Reliance JioThe operator now enables users to carry forward their existing credit limit from their existing operator to Reliance Jio in three steps. It was said that the users who wish to join Reliance Jio are required to send "Hi" to 88-501-88-501 on WhatsApp. The postpaid users have to note that the WhatsApp message has to be sent from the postpaid number that they wish to be ported to Jio. The users upon the completion of the first step are also required to upload existing operators’ postpaid bill. Further, the users post the 24 hour period can head to a Jio store to collect the JioPostpaid Plus SIM card with the credit limit of their choice "without paying the security deposit." Additionally, the users can also call and schedule home delivery of their JioPostpaid Plus SIM card. JioPostpaid Plus Plans Offer 75GB Data on Entry Level PlansIt has to be noted that the entry-level plan of Jio priced at Rs 399 offers 75GB data to users along with "truly unlimited" voice calling and "unlimited" SMS benefits. While Airtel and Vi also offer a Rs 399 entry-level plan, the data benefits are restricted to 40GB. Further, the users on the entry-level Rs 399 plan will also be provided complimentary access to OTT apps along with access to over 600 live TV channels. The users on Airtel and Vi can also access live TV but the channel count is restricted to 300 and 450 channels respectively. However, the three operators including Jio enable users to carry over 200GB unused data to the next billing cycle. | Airtel Expected to Post Over 4 Million Subscriber Additions: ICICI Securities Posted: 08 Oct 2020 04:22 AM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/airtel-expected-post-over-4million-subscriber-additions/303333/, Airtel Expected to Post Over 4 Million Subscriber Additions: ICICI Securities
ICICI Securities on Wednesday said in its research note that it expects Bharti Airtel to post 3.3% mobile revenue growth on a quarterly basis. The firm in its preview of the second quarter earnings results said that it expects Vodafone Idea (VIL) to post 1.5% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) mobile revenue growth. ICICI Securities said that "for a seasonally weak" second quarter, it expects operators to post mobile revenue growth due to "one additional day during the quarter, higher mobile broadband subscriber addition." Crucially, the firm also highlighted that the "low base" set by the operators during the first quarter "due to severe lockdown" will "offset the seasonality led dip." ICICI Securities Expects Airtel to Post Subscriber 4 Million Subscriber AdditionsICICI Securities said that it expects the Airtel subscriber base to grow by four million in the second quarter of the current financial year. However, the firm said that the VIL subscriber base during the same period could dip by eight million. "But, given rising aggression from VIL post the AGR verdict, it may start adding subs from Q3FY21 itself," ICICI Securities said in its note. The firm also said that the average revenue per user (ARPU) should be positive for the operators "due to one additional day, higher availability of recharges" and the growth in 4G subscriber additions. In terms of the data subscribers, ICICI Securities said that Airtel is expected to post five million subscribers additions and Vodafone Idea at three million additions. VIL Expected to Post 5% Increase in ARPUICICI Securities said that the overall Airtel revenues are "likely" to grow by 2% QoQ and 17% year-over-year (YoY) to Rs 181 billion with the growth aided by its mobile segment. Similarly, it was said that revenues of VIL are also "likely" to increase 1.5% QoQ to Rs 108 billion. "This is due to continued loss of subs (down 8mn), which should start growing from Q3FY21 itself," ICICI Securities said in its note on VIL earnings for the second quarter. "ARPU is estimated to increase by 5% QoQ as most of the lost subs were in the low-ARPU bucket." | BSNL Users Can Select from 34 Prepaid Denominations to Boost Balance Posted: 07 Oct 2020 10:05 PM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-users-select-prepaid-denominations-boost-balance/303262/, BSNL Users Can Select from 34 Prepaid Denominations to Boost Balance
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is currently offering a total of 34 top-up vouchers to the users in Chennai circle. For the unaware, there were many more top-up vouchers on offer from the state-owned operator in the Chennai circle. But as per a recent announcement by BSNL, it has removed a total of 82 top-up vouchers from its offerings. So now the users are left with a lot less options for getting a top-up. From cheaper options to expensive ones, BSNL has removed a lot of top-up vouchers. More on the story ahead. BSNL Removes 82 Top-Up Vouchers, 34 Still in OfferFocusing on the 34 vouchers which are still on offer in the Chennai circle, users can select through cheap vouchers such as Rs 10, 20, 30, and so on until Rs 100. Then there are vouchers which offer full-talk time as the recharge amount including Rs 100, Rs 110, Rs 160, Rs 600, Rs 1,000, and Rs 2,500. There are six vouchers available which cost Rs 1,000 or more. With the Rs 1,000 voucher, the operator offered full talk time of Rs 1,000 until September 26, 2020, however, the talk-time provided with this plan has now reduced to Rs 844. Then there are other vouchers above Rs 1,000 which are of Rs 1,100, Rs 2,000, Rs 2,500, Rs 3,000, and Rs 5,500. BSNL also offers 28 vouchers that are priced less than Rs 1,000. So the users still have plenty of top-up vouchers to choose from.
However, the operator now removed the expensive vouchers such as Rs 2,200, Rs 3,300, along with nine other vouchers that were priced between Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. It has to be noted that a total of 82 vouchers were removed by the telecom operator on October 7, 2020. Among the vouchers that were removed by the operator, 71 were priced less than Rs 1,000. Even though the users now have a lot of lesser options to choose from, it isn't necessarily bad. The operator seems to have Limited the options to a few plans which are actually demanded by the users. So now after the removal of plans, the users get 34 top-up vouchers to choose from. One thing to note would be that all the vouchers mentioned are inclusive of the taxes. So the user doesn't need to pay anymore than what they see on the website. Another thing to note is that users in other circles are still offered the top vouchers which are removed from the Chennai circle. So for example, users in Chhattisgarh can still enjoy the benefits of the vouchers such as Rs 130, Rs 160, Rs 170, Rs 2,000, Rs 3,300 and more which are removed for the users in Chennai circle. | Airtel and Vi Now Say No to Chinese Vendors Posted: 07 Oct 2020 06:32 PM PDT This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/airtel-vi-now-say-no-chinese-vendors/303207/, Airtel and Vi Now Say No to Chinese Vendors
Airtel and Vi (Vodafone Idea) have ignored the Chinese vendors while awarding new projects. The two telecom operators are walking down the same path as Reliance Jio. The largest telecom operator in India has been highlighting that it does not depend on any Chinese vendor to provide its services. Thus, Jio has been termed 'clean telco' and the telecom giant has been leveraging off the term for a while now. Airtel and Vi have done the same by not offering any new contracts to the Chinese vendors ZTE and Huawei who are their old partners in providing telecom gear. Airtel and Vi Ignore Chinese Vendors, But Still Work With them on Existing ContractsAs per an ET Telecom report, both Airtel and Vi have refrained from offering any new contracts to the Chinese vendors. However, these telecom operators still continue to work with ZTE and Huawei on their old and existing contracts which are yet to complete. One of the biggest reasons behind the Indian telecom operators not working with the Chinese vendors isn't just the data security, but also geopolitical reasons. A lot of European and US service providers are said to be not comfortable working with companies which are using gears and equipment from Chinese vendors. This is because of the potential possibility of theft of data which these US and European companies have in abundance. So now the telecom operators are looking to award contracts to companies such as Nokia, Ciena, and Cisco. Chinese vendors such as Huawei and ZTE won't be considered for offering any new deals by the telecom operators and that has been made clear. The telecom operators need to plan their network strategy and for that, they need a certain clarity on how things can be executed. But working with Chinese vendors won't give the telcos the clarity they need for planning. Thus it becomes a sensible thing to look ahead of Chinese companies. As of now, Airtel depends on both Nokia and Huawei for the equipment of the NLD network in India. For the unaware, NLD is a part of the core networks of Airtel. With Airtel and Vi going the same 'clean telco' route, it will be interesting to see where the Chinese vendors finally end up in the Indian telecom space.
