Samsung Might Ditch the Galaxy Note 21 Series Next Year

South Korean smartphone company Samsung will likely ditch the Galaxy Note 21 series next year. Ever since the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra launched, rumours were rife that the company is also planning to add S-Pen support to the Galaxy S series. This essentially means the Galaxy S21 devices will have S-Pen support, but the surprising part is the company planning to ditch the popular Note series. It was something no one expected and the fans of Note series will be disappointed. Tipster Max Weinbach said the Samsung flagship smartphones for 2021 include Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Fold FE and the Galaxy S21 FE.

Samsung Likely to Kill Galaxy Note Series Next Year

The list of Samsung flagship smartphones launching in 2021 does not include the Galaxy Note 21 series, at least that’s what the tipster says. The Galaxy S21 series will have three phones- the standard Galaxy S21, slightly better Galaxy S21+ and the premium Galaxy S21 Ultra. It is long rumoured that Samsung will add S-Pen support to the Galaxy S21 series and all the upcoming foldable phones. We might see the S-Pen bundled with the phones like Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Z Fold FE, while with the S21 series, the company may offer S-Pen as a separate accessory instead of having a dedicated slot.

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra smartphones. While the Note 20 Ultra is touted as one of the best smartphones of 2020, it is the opposite for Note 20 as the phone had some major drawbacks. Analysts also predicted that the demand for Note 20 Ultra is not up to the mark as Samsung expected.

In other news, Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy S21 series on January 14, 2021. The phones will reportedly feature Exynos 2100 SoC, 120Hz refresh rate screens, improved cameras and slightly bigger batteries. Samsung seems to be making some major decisions for 2021. Do make a note that nothing is confirmed for now, so take this news with a pinch of salt.

DoT Leaves the Final Call on Spectrum Pricing for Cabinet: Report

dot-spectrum-pricing-cabinet-report

Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has left the final call for setting the price of the spectrum on the cabinet. DoT has not suggested any change or reduction in the price of the spectrum as proposed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). The next spectrum auction is likely to take place in the first quarter of 2021. Since DoT hasn't suggested any price modification, the government body has left the decision to the Union Cabinet. Thus it will be the Union Cabinet that will decide on the pricing of the spectrum for the next auction.

Cabinet to Decide on the Pricing of Spectrum for Auction

As per a report from the Financial Express, DoT has worked on a draft note for the Cabinet which outlines the reserved prices of the spectrums to be auctioned next year, including 4G. As for the 5G auctions, they are not even expected to place next year since a call on the final pricing for spectrum can't be taken by the Cabinet at the moment.

Union Cabinet is going to be making the decision on whether the spectrum prices should be lowered or not. The Cabinet might just reduce the price because of two reasons. First that telcos now exactly know the amount of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues they have to pay within 10 years. Second, since operators aren't purchasing new gear and equipment from Chinese vendors, it will result in increased procurement costs by 15% to 20% for the telcos.

Telcos and the other constituents of the industry have expressed that the reserved prices of the spectrum set by the government are way too expensive. For example, the price for the 5G band in the 3,000-3,600 MHz was announced at Rs 492 crore per MHz pan-India and the minimum block was set at 20 MHz. This meant that the telcos would have to pay Rs 9,840 crore for one block of the 5G band.

The main concern for the operators at the moment would be the price of premium 4G spectrum since 5G auctions won’t take place anytime soon. Trai has reduced the premium 4G spectrum price by 43% as compared to the 2016 auctions. Even after that, at Rs 6,568 crore per MHz for a block of 5 MHz, the companies will have to pay Rs 32,840 crore which is still very high.

Vodafone Idea Tariffs Likely to See 15-20% Hike Very Soon

Posted: 15 Nov 2020 10:43 PM PST

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/vodafone-idea-tariff-hike-2021/310887/, Vodafone Idea Tariffs Likely to See 15-20% Hike Very Soon

Supporting earlier rumours of Vodafone Idea’s tariff hike, a new report by ET Telecom now says the struggling telco might raise the tariff prices by 15-20%. The tariff hike will likely happen by the end of 2020 or early 2021, two persons aware of the matter said to the publication. While announcing the quarter results that ended on September 30, 2020, Vi officials said they would not hesitate in raising the tariff prices ahead of Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. The rival telcos Airtel and Jio remain silent on tariff hike for now, but Vodafone Idea is facing severe financial pressure, and the telco is also losing subscribers on an active basis.

Vodafone Idea Tariff Hike to Happen by the End of 2020 or in Early 2021

"The company is likely to increase tariffs even as telcos wait for the regulator to fix floor prices," said one person aware of the matter to ET Telecom. After the recent quarter results, several analysts also predicted the tariff hike from Vi is inevitable considering the financial situation of the telco. To recall, Vodafone Idea was the first telecom operator to announce tariff hike in November last year. “Vi could hike rates as early as in December,” said another person to the publication.

It is also said that Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio will wait a little longer before hiking the tariff prices. Furthermore, the report added that Vi already held internal talks regarding the tariff hike. We might see the tariff prices of Vi could go up by at least 15%. During the last hike, we saw a hike of 14% from the telco.

Vodafone Idea is already struggling in the industry. Even the subscription data released by Trai for August 2020 revealed the telco had lost more than one million existing users. This is something Vi should keep in mind before raising the tariffs. If Airtel and Jio decide to hold the tariff hike for a while, the majority of Vi subscribers will port out. We recently reported that Airtel would be in the best position to grab the customers of Vodafone Idea.

Early CAD Render of OnePlus 9 Suggests Similar Design to OnePlus 8T

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/oneplus-9-cad-renders-leaked/310864/, Early CAD Render of OnePlus 9 Suggests Similar Design to OnePlus 8T

We are still months away from the launch of the OnePlus 9 series and a CAD render of the standard OnePlus 9 already popped up online. This could mean that OnePlus is preparing an early launch for its next flagship series. A recent report said that the OnePlus 9 series would launch in March 2021, whereas the Galaxy S21 series could launch in January itself. While there’s no official confirmation on the OnePlus 9 series launch date, this early CAD render of the device reveals the likely design of the smartphone. The standard OnePlus 9 could likely launch alongside the OnePlus 9 Pro next year. This is an early CAD render of the OnePlus 9 so take this leak with a grain of salt.

OnePlus 9 CAD Render: Similar Design to OnePlus 8T

The OnePlus 8T was launched just a few weeks ago and it is one of the best smartphones to buy under Rs 50,000 this year. OnePlus seems to reserve the same design as OnePlus 8T to OnePlus 9, at least that’s what the leaked CAD render suggests. The OnePlus 9 CAD render indicates the phone will have a triple camera setup on the back, a single punch-hole camera on the front and a flat display.

The triple camera module on the back is very identical to the that of the OnePlus 8T. The lone render was leaked by 91mobiles. The publication also highlighted the OnePlus 9 would sport a slightly bigger 6.65-inch screen. Other rumoured specifications of the handset include a Full HD+ screen with 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 875 chipset with 5G support and 65W fast charging. The OnePlus 9 Pro could feature some major upgrades next year.

Right after this CAD render came out, popular tipster Max J took to Twitter saying it is not an accurate render and the design of the OnePlus 9 is yet to be finalised. The OnePlus 8T was a major upgrade over the OnePlus 8 that was released just six months prior to the former. So we are expecting the OnePlus 9 to feature minor upgrades over the 8T, whereas the 9 Pro could pack some noticeable upgrades over the OnePlus 8 Pro. Nevertheless, these are our predictions and the rumoured launch date is still four months away.
