Last year, we saw Bharti Airtel completely shutting down 3G services across the country. A new report by PTI now highlights the telco has started refarming 2G spectrum for 4G services to deliver enhanced network services to the customers. Airtel is said to have started deploying 4G technology in the 900 Mhz band. For those who are unaware, Airtel is using the same 900 Mhz band currently to provide 2G services. The refarming of 2G spectrum for 4G has started by Airtel in ten telecom circles and the report says it will take 3-4 months for Airtel to finish the entire refarming exercise. At present, Airtel is offering 4G services in 2300 Mhz and 1800 Mhz bands. Refarming of 2G Spectrum for 4G Will Boost Indoor ConnectivityThe PTI report says Airtel has already started the refarming of 900 Mhz spectrum band for 4G in six telecom circles- Delhi, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh, North East, Karnataka and Rajasthan. And it will also start deploying the same in four more telecom circles soon because the telco has liberalised 900 Mhz spectrum in ten circles. Airtel is no longer offering 3G services in India and all the 3G users were migrated to 4G as part of its 3G spectrum refarming exercise last year. “As smartphone penetration grows further in small towns and villages, we have the opportunity to deploy some of the high quality 900 Mhz band from 2G to 4G and scale up network capacity without having to wait till auctions. This is helping us truly differentiate the 4G experience on our network,” the company executive who did not wish to be named said to PTI. By refarming the 900 Mhz 2G spectrum for 4G, Bharti Airtel is looking to boost the indoor coverage. Do make a note that the refarming is only to boost the indoor coverage and Airtel will continue offering 2G services across the country. The report further adds the 900 Mhz band with higher propagation helps in improving indoor 4G coverage and also strengthens Airtel’s 4G spectrum group. Airtel is currently on the recovery mode as the telco plans to increase ARPU and also increase its subscriber base. Airtel recently revealed that it added 14.4 million new 4G users in the quarter that ended on September 30, 2020. The most important takeaway is Airtel managed to outperform Jio in the 4G subscriber additions. Nokia is soon going to launch a brand new smartphone for the Indian market. Much recently, HMD Global through its Twitter and other social media accounts has teased about the launch of a new device on November 26. While no specific name has been given by HMD Global or Nokia, it can be assumed that the device being launched is Nokia 2.4. A couple of days back, a report surfaced online citing industry sources saying that the Nokia 2.4 will be launched by the end of November 2020, in India. For the unaware, Nokia 2.4 is already released for the European market so its specifications are already known — more details ahead. Nokia 2.4 Specifications (Expected)While Nokia has already launched the Nokia 2.4 for an international market, it would be wrong to assume that the company will release the same device for the Indian market as well. The Nokia 2.4 runs on Android 10 out of the box and comes with a 6.5-inch HD+ display and an aspect ratio of 20:9. The device is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC coupled with up to 3GB RAM. | BIF to Trai: Bandwidth Speed Must be Minimum 2 Mbps to Qualify as Broadband Posted: 16 Nov 2020 10:30 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bif-to-trai-broadband-speed/311322/, BIF to Trai: Bandwidth Speed Must be Minimum 2 Mbps to Qualify as Broadband
Demand for broadband internet in India has grown in the last few months. The broadband technology has developed very rapidly, and now people can access up to 1 Gbps internet speed sitting in their homes and offices. Much recently, the Broadband Forum of India (BIF) said in response to a consultation paper released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) that the definition of broadband internet in India needs to be updated. BIF noted that at present, the minimum threshold for a service to qualify as broadband service is providing 512 Kbps internet speed which should be updated and increased. More details on the story ahead. BIF Says Minimum Internet Speed Should be 2 Mbps for a Broadband ServiceAs per a report from News18, BIF has said that the definition of broadband internet service needs to be updated now. From the current minimum speed of 512 Kbps, the minimum speed should be increased to 2 Mbps for both downloading and uploading. Adding to this, BIF has suggested dividing the broadband services into three different categories, namely 'Basic', 'Fast', and 'Ultra-Fast'. This division would help the broadband companies in matching up to a certain standard and quality of service when they list their plans or services in any of these categories. It is worth noting that since the last time broadband internet was defined, internet in India has evolved to a much better standard. A large population in the country is now used to getting 4G internet speeds which is much higher than what broadband internet used to offer five years ago. With 5G around the corner, it is high time that a proper new definition for broadband internet and services is also given. Trai had earlier floated several consultation papers to various telecom and internet service providers (ISPs) in the country in which the main concern mentioned was the minimum speed offered to the users. Defining a better minimum speed is something that actually needs to be done since 512 Kbps is not enough and viable for today's connectivity standards. | You Broadband 200 Mbps Plan With Unlimited Data Now Costs Rs 899 per Month Posted: 16 Nov 2020 09:19 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/you-broadband-200mbps-plan-hyderabad/311311/, You Broadband 200 Mbps Plan With Unlimited Data Now Costs Rs 899 per Month
Almost every broadband operator in the country is now trying to retain their subscriber base. They are doing this by introducing high-speed affordable plans to match JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber. Earlier, we saw government-backed BSNL getting aggressive in the broadband segment. Vodafone Idea-owned You Broadband also revised some of its broadband plans in the country. The 200 Mbps plan from You Broadband in Hyderabad is currently available at Rs 899 per month (excluding taxes) and it also provides unlimited data benefit. You Broadband was one of the first ISPs in India to launch high-speed 250 Mbps broadband plan, and currently, it has 200 Mbps plan available in the majority of service cities. You Broadband 200 Mbps Plan Price Reduced in HyderabadTo recall, You Broadband introduced the 200 Mbps plan in Hyderabad in 2018 for Rs 1,399. Thanks to the intense competition in the wired broadband sector, You Broadband has reduced the price of its 200 Mbps in Hyderabad to Rs 899 per month. With taxes, the plan costs Rs 1,062 per month. The best part is the plan comes with unlimited data benefit or 3.5TB per month. The ISP is providing the 200 Mbps in 30 days, 105 days, 210 days and 405 days validity. For 30 days, the price is Rs 1,062, for 105 days it is Rs 3,186, for 210 days the charges are Rs 6,372, and for 405 days, You Broadband will charge Rs 12,744. All the prices mentioned here are inclusive of taxes. You Broadband is also offering a dual-band router at a one-time refundable deposit of Rs 1,999. Alongside the 200 Mbps Unlimited Data plan, You Broadband also has other plans on offer with 125 Mbps, 75 Mbps, 50 Mbps and 30 Mbps speeds. However, only the 200 Mbps plan is available for 30 days subscription whereas the other four plans come only in long-term subscriptions. The 125 Mbps broadband plan from You is available at Rs 2,478 (including taxes) for 105 days, whereas the basic 30 Mbps can be picked up for Rs 1,416 (including taxes) for 90 days. Sadly, You Broadband is not offering its landline bundled plans in Hyderabad, whereas Airtel Xstream Fiber and JioFiber broadband plans come with free landline calling benefit. | Honor Brand Sold Off by Huawei for an Undisclosed Amount Posted: 16 Nov 2020 08:04 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/honor-brand-sold-off-huawei/311288/, Honor Brand Sold Off by Huawei for an Undisclosed Amount
Chinese brand Huawei officially confirmed it is selling the Honor brand to a group of over 30 agents and dealers in China, according to Reuters. Last week, it was reported that Huawei had finalised a deal with a group of agents to sell off the Honor brand. Huawei founded honor in 2013 and it has been operating as a sub-brand for the former in several markets including China, India and more. Everything was going smooth for both the companies until the ban from the US government which made Huawei difficult to operate its consumer hardware business. The buyers of Honor will soon set up a new company- Shenzen Zhixin New Information Technology so that they can complete the deal. Both Huawei and the buyers did not disclose the deal price. Huawei Will No Longer Be a Parent Company of HonorAs part of this deal, Shenzen Zhixin New Information Technology will acquire Honor’s supply chain, R&D centres and other assets. This means Huawei will lose its complete rights on Honor. The buyers are assuring that Honor will operate as usual and there will not be any production issues. And yes, Honor’s entire workforce of over 7,000 employees will also be transferred to the new company. Huawei was at its best along with Honor and the company was aiming at securing more 5G deals from telecom operators across the world. But the trade ban from the United States government had a major impact on Huawei. For the unaware, Huawei is no longer allowed to use Google Mobile Services which is the reason why the recently launched Mate 40 high-end series and a few mid-range Honor devices featured Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) based on Android 10. The ban also affected Huawei’s chipset business as the Chinese company will no longer be able to use ARM-based SoCs by TSMC on its Kirin range. Yesterday, Qualcomm officially received a license from the US government to sell ‘4G chipsets’ to Huawei. With the entire world transforming to 5G, Huawei will again import the 4G chipsets from Qualcomm to run the hardware business. Probably, the Kirin 9000 SoC will be the final in-house chipset from Huawei. Huawei did not disclose the deal value, but an earlier report indicated it to be around $15.2 billion.
