The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India today announced that it is blocking access to 43 Chinese mobile apps. With this latest ban, the Indian government blocked more than 200 mobile apps since June this year. Earlier on June 29, 2020, the Government of India blocked access to 59 mobile apps, and on September 2, 2020, it blocked 118 more apps which also included the popular mobile game PUBG Mobile. And now, 43 more apps have been banned, which includes the likes of AliExpress, Lalamove India, CamCard, Snack Video and more. Announcing the ban, the MeitY said these apps are “engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India.” Government of India Bans 43 More Mobile AppsThe MeitY has issued the order for blocking the access for these 43 apps by users in India. The order for blocking is made based on the comprehensive reports received from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, Ministry of Home Affairs. With the latest round, India has blocked 220 mobile apps and the list includes some big names like TikTok, PUBG Mobile, Camscanner, AliExpress, UC Browser, and more. The list of apps that have blocked for access in India after today’s order are AliSuppliers Mobile App, Alibaba Workbench, AliExpress, Alipay Cashier, Lalamove India, Drive with Lalamove India, Snack Video, CamCard – Business Card Reader, CamCard – BCR (Western), Soul, Chinese Social, Date in Asia, WeDate-Dating App, Free dating app-Singol, Adore App, TrulyChinese, TrulyAsian – Asian Dating App, ChinaLove, DateMyAge, FlirtWish, Guys Only Dating, WeWorkChina, First Love Live, Rela, Cashier Wallet, MangoTV, MGTV, WeTV – TV version, WeTV – Cdrama, Kdrama&More, WeTV Lite, Lucky Live-Live Video Streaming App, Taobao Live, DingTalk, Identity V, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time, BoxStar (Early Access), Heroes Evolved, Happy Fish, Jellipop Match, Munchkin Match and Conquista Online II. After the ban in September, PUBG Corporation is preparing to relaunch the game in India with a new name- PUBG Mobile India. However, the MeitY hinted that the relief would be given only if the company manages to address all the concerns. It will be interesting to see how AliExpress responds to this ban. Poco M3 just went official in global markets at a retail price of $149 (approx. Rs 11,050). The launch of the Poco M3 comes right before Black Friday as part of which the company will be selling the phone at an ‘Early Bird Price.’ In-line with the leaks and rumours, the Poco M3 rocks a Full HD+ screen on the front, Snapdragon 662 SoC underneath and a 6000mAh battery backs the entire package. The Poco M3 has been launched in several markets, however, Poco India is yet to give official confirmation on whether it is planning to bring the phone to the Asian sub-continent as a successor to the Poco M2. Poco M3: Specifications and FeaturesThe Poco M3 is the company’s budget smartphone for global markets like Europe and North America. The phone flaunts a 6.53-inch Full HD+ display on the front paired with a teardrop notch. Yes, Poco did not include a punch-hole cutout on the phone and the refresh rate is also 60Hz. At the heart of the Poco M3 is Snapdragon 662 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM. The phone comes in two storage configurations- 4GB+64GB and 4GB+128GB. There’s a microSD card as well for storage expansion. The Xiaomi sub-brand added a triple camera setup on the rear side of the Poco M3. A 48MP primary sensor works in tandem with a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro sensor. Upfront, there is an 8MP snapper for capturing selfies and attending video conferences. The handset comes laden with Android 10-based MIUI 12 out of the box. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and a USB Type-C port. The fingerprint scanner is present on the rear side of the Poco M3. Lastly, the phone comes backed by a 6000mAh battery which charges at 22.5W. Lenovo might launch the K12 Pro later this year. The listing of the device was found by Mobile91 on the platforms of TENAA and FCC. Looking at the specifications listed on both the platforms, there is a strong possibility that the Lenovo K12 Pro might be a rebranded version of the Moto G9 Power. The model number that was spotted in the listing was XT-2091-8. A thing worth noting here is that the Moto G9 Power had a similar model number – Xt2091-3. Let's take a look at all the specifications the device might come with. Lenovo K12 Pro Specifications (Expected)Looking at the listing of the device on the K12 Pro on TENNA and FCC, few key specifications can be assumed. The device might come with up to 4GB of RAM and there might be 128GB internal storage. Lenovo K12 Pro might get a 6.78-inch display much like the Moto G9 Power. The device is expected to be available in Jasper colour and with a design that might be very similar to that of the Moto G9 Power. Further, there might be a triple camera setup at the rear along with a fingerprint scanner. The front camera is expected to be in the side at the top. The front camera is further expected to come in a punch-hole design like the Moto G9 Power. The Lenovo K12 Pro might come with a 6,000mAh battery and is likely to get the support of 20W fast-charging as well. The device is first expected to launch for the China market. No confirmed dates have been provided yet but it is very likely that the smartphone will be launched ahead in this year only. Five Indian States Accounted for 24.98% of Total Telephone ConnectionsThe DoT report highlights that Andhra Pradesh registered 129,599 new telephone connections in August while Assam and Bihar registered 140,311 and 720,249 connections respectively. It was also highlighted that Andhra Pradesh had the "highest share in the total telephones" at 7.53% followed by Assam, Bihar, Gujarat and Haryana. "These five Service areas taken together accounted for 24.98% of total telephone connections in India," the DOT said in its Monthly Telecom Scenario report. Crucially, DoT also said that metro areas including Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata recorded a dip in the total number of telephone connections in August as compared to the previous month. The report highlights that Mumbai registered a dip of 154,941 connections in August while Delhi and Kolkata registered a dip of 102,331 and 295,341 connections respectively. Indian Telecom Operators Register Marginal Increase in Overall TeledensityFurther, the DoT report highlights that the overall teledensity in India at the end of August hit 86.23% as compared to 86.14% in the previous month. The wireless segment is said to have accounted for 98.30% of the total connections in India as of August while wireline segment accounted for 1.70% of the total connections. It was also said that the public sector accounted for 11.40% of the total telephone connections in India as of August, while the private sector registered 88.60% of the total connections. The report also highlighted that the rural areas accounted for 44.94% of the total connections in August as compared to 45.07% in the previous month. However, the urban areas are said to have accounted for 55.06% of the total connections in August as compared to 54.93% in the previous month. This plan also has the same validity of 84 days, but with this plan, the users get a total of 126GB high-speed data. Reliance Jio Rs 999 Prepaid PlanReliance Jio Rs 999 prepaid plan offers users 3GB daily FUP data in addition to 100 SMS/day and 3,000 FUP minutes for making Jio to non-Jio calls. There is, of course, unlimited calling included for Jio to Jio with this plan as well. Users also get a complimentary subscription of all the Jio apps. The validity of this plan is 84 days, and the users get a total of 252GB high-speed data. Motorola is all set to launch the Moto G 5G and the Moto G9 Power smartphones in India. Both the phones were launched recently in Western markets, and if this news is believed to be true, the Moto G 5G will be the company’s first 5G phone to debut in India. Similar to the Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite, the Moto G 5G is also powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC. Unlike the Snapdragon 765G chipset which we earlier saw on the OnePlus Nord, the Snapdragon 750G is a lower mid-range SoC, meaning we could see the Moto G 5G retailing for less than Rs 20,000 in India. Realme is also launching the Realme X7 series of phones in the country with MediaTek Dimensity range of 5G SoCs. India is all set to get mid-range 5G phones as early as next month or in January 2021. After updating the mid-range Redmi Note 9 Pro to Android 11 in India, Xiaomi is rolling out a new Android 11-based MIUI 12 update to its flagship smartphone Mi 10. Xiaomi launched the Mi 10 5G in India earlier this year. Later on, we saw the brand launching Mi 10T series as well in India. The Xiaomi Mi 10 already picked up MIUI 12 update in the country, but it was based on Android 10. Now, Xiaomi is seeding a new MIUI 12 update with build number- V12.2.1.0.RJBMIXM which will be based on Android 11. The Chinese company pushed Android 11 update to Mi 10 in China; Before this version, Xiaomi pushed V12.1.2.0.RJBMIXM update to Mi 10 global users, however, it was limited to early adopters. Xiaomi Mi 10 Android 11 Update: When Can You Expect?According to XDA Developers, the Mi 10’s new MIUI 12 release V12.2.1.0.RJBMIXM is a broader rollout with an overall size of 2.8GB. The update is also said to carry October 2020 security patches. We are not sure about the new features added by Xiaomi.
