twitter-blue-tick-verification

Much recently, Twitter, one of the biggest social media platforms in the world announced that it will be resuming the process of account verification from early 2021 for its users. It will include a new public application process as well. The micro-blogging platform had earlier stopped this process as many of the users found the verification process to be confusing. Several users didn't even understand what it meant for an account to be verified and what it meant for an account to be unverified. But now Twitter is bringing back the blue tick with much clearer insights into the verification process and which accounts can exactly become verified.

Twitter Verification Policy

Twitter is asking for the users to fill up a survey relating to the verified accounts. The company is covering many grounds through the survey and asking some really important questions. The blog shared by Twitter about its new verification policy suggests that their new policy will lay the foundation using which accounts can be verified in the future and also why some accounts will lose their verification badge.

Twitter clearly says that all the verified accounts are 'notable' accounts. Through its blog, Twitter said, "the blue verified badge on Twitter lets people know that an account of public interest is authentic. To receive the blue badge, your account must be notable and active."

The company has categorised the accounts on the platform into six types as per notability factor – 1. Government, 2. News, 3. Companies, brands, or non-profit organisations, 4. Entertainment, 5. Sports, and 6. Activists, Organisers, and other influential individuals.

Twitter will be actively taking public feedback on the verification process from November 24, 2020, until December 8, 2020. The company aims to come out with a final policy on December 17, 2020.

The micro-blogging platform is giving users multiple ways to authenticate their profile apart from receiving the blue badge. There are new account types and labels that people can use to identify themselves.

jiopages-2-0-1-version-out

Reliance Jio announced the JioPages web browser just last month on October 21, 2020. The web browsing app has now received a new update and this version of the app is called JioPages 2.0.1. The new version of the app has got three major upgrades. For the unaware, JioPages is a web browser built on the powerful Chromium Blink engine. The app can support up to 8 native Indian languages and along with that stores all the user data within India only. More about the three major upgrades on the app ahead.

JioPages 2.0.1 Version Three Major Upgrades

Talking about the first major upgrade that comes with the JioPages 2.0.1 version, it is the support for 'Duck Duck Go Search Engine'. The speciality of this search engine is that it is very privacy centric. The search engine does not log information of the users and also uses cookies only when required. To enable it on the app, users can go to the bottom right hamburger icon then tap on Settings > Quick Settings > Select Search Engine.

The second upgrade to JioPages is the integration of a new section showcasing short videos into the app. Short videos with up to 30 seconds will feature on this new section of the app. Users who want to view short videos can go to the Bottom Bar > Explore Section > Scroll to short videos reel > View More.

Lastly, coming to the third upgrade on the app, it is better navigation and exit buttons. Now, with the exit button, the user can quickly exit from the app. At the same time, the navigation buttons on the app will allow ease in going back and forth inside JioPages. To exit, the user just need to go to the hamburger option and tap on exit button. The two navigation buttons are on the bottom left of the app window.

Users still get the option to use other search engine platforms such as Bing, Yahoo, Google and more. Adding to this, the app also support 'Dark Mode' which is a good thing since many prefer to use their app that way only.

Dialling a ‘0’ Mandatory While Calling Via Fixed Line to Mobile Number from January 2021: DoT

dialling-a-0-mandatory

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has said that the users will now have to dial a '0' before entering the mobile number when calling through a fixed landline connection. But this rule isn't applicable as of yet. The DoT has said through a circular that the new rule will come into effect from January 1, 2021. This decision taken by DoT is so that a space for a fresh number series is there in the market for mobile callers. It is worthy to note that the recommendation to put '0' behind mobile number when calling from a fixed line number came from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).

Trai's Recommendation to Use Prefix '0' for Mobile Numbers Accepted by DoT

DoT announced through a circular that the recommendation from Trai on 'modification of dialling pattern from fixed line numbers', dated May 29, 2020, has been accepted. This is to ensure that there are adequate numbering resources available for both mobile and fixed line numbers in the country.

DoT further said in its announcement that the new rule shall be communicated with the fixed line users by the telcos. Now whenever a fixed line subscriber will make a call to a mobile number, he/she will get to hear about the new rule of dialling a '0' before entering the mobile number.

The department in its circular further said that the telecom operators have some time before this rule comes into effect. Thus they have to utilise this time into educating their subscribers about it. Adding to this, they also need to implement this rule into their system so that calls can take place with the new rule in effect.

Trai had suggested this rule back in May 29, 2020 and had said that this rule is not made to increase the number of digits for a mobile number. In essence, this rule won't be too much criticised by the users across the country. Dialling a '0' is simply dialling the STD code before the number. A lot of the users do it anyway, so the change is expected to be welcomed with open hands.

Vivo Teases the Arrival of V20 Pro 5G in India

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/vivo-v20-pro-official-india-launch/312968/, Vivo Teases the Arrival of V20 Pro 5G in India

Chinese smartphone brand, Vivo, has officially confirmed the launch of Vivo V20 Pro 5G in India. Of late, Vivo has been on a roll in launching new smartphones. The brand also introduced the Vivo V20 and the V20 SE phones in India, and now, it is the turn of the V20 Pro 5G. The upcoming smartphone will also mark as the first smartphone under Vivo V series with 5G support. At the start of 2020, Vivo launched the Vivo V19 smartphone, but it skipped the V19 Pro smartphone. So the V20 Pro 5G will be a direct successor to the V17 Pro that was launched in 2019. The Vivo V20 Pro 5G already went official in some markets, so we have an idea of the specifications like Snapdragon 765G SoC and 44MP dual-camera setup.

Vivo V20 Pro 5G India Launch: What We Know So Far

The V20 Pro 5G is expected to cost Rs 29,990 in India and it would be a decent smartphone for the asking price. However, these are just early leaks and the official pricing along with launch date is yet to be revealed by Vivo. The phone was earlier tipped to cost the same as OnePlus Nord’s 8GB+256GB model. Since the Vivo V20 is available at Rs 24,990 in India, we can assume the V20 Pro 5G’s leaked price could be an accurate one.

As for the specifications, the V20 Pro 5G rocks a 6.44-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen on the front. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The V20 Pro 5G shares the same chipset as the OnePlus Nord and it is the reason behind Vivo offering 5G support at a mid-range price.

The USP of the V20 Pro 5G would be its cameras. The phone will rock a triple camera setup on the back with 48MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 2MP monochrome lens. To the front, the phone features a dual-camera setup comprising of 44MP primary lens and 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The phone runs on FunTouch OS and comes backed by a 4000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support.

Trai Imposes Rs 35 Crore Penalty on 8 Telcos for Allowing Fake SMSes by Cybercriminals

Posted: 24 Nov 2020 08:01 PM PST

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/trai-penalty-top-telcos-cybercriminals/312946/, Trai Imposes Rs 35 Crore Penalty on 8 Telcos for Allowing Fake SMSes by Cybercriminals

Telecom operators in India face the heat yet again from Trai as the regulator slaps around Rs 35 crore penalty for allowing cybercriminals to send fake SMSes to the subscribers which led to digital payment frauds. The top telcos have distorted the volume of spam calls and messages on their networks, says Trai according to ET Telecom. The highest penalty of Rs 30.1 crore was levied on the government-owned BSNL. These fake and spam SMSes allowed cybercriminals to cheat digital payment users. Digital payments in India is currently on the rise and such malicious SMSes are bothering the customers.

Airtel, Vi and Other Telcos Gets Penalised by Trai

The top four telecom operators in India- Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and BSNL are penalised by Trai. The sector regulator says the latest penalties imposed are due to violation of Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation. This news is reported by ET Telecom as the publication managed to access penalty documents.

As noted, BSNL received the highest penalty of Rs 30.1 crore. The report also says the state-run telco received the highest penalty because it violated Trai’s norms and also did not respond to the show-cause notices sent by the regulator. BSNL did not submit the performance-monitoring reports either. Private telcos Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel and Quadrant receive 1.82 crore, 1.33 crore and 1.41 crore penalties respectively. Reliance Jio also received a penalty from the Trai, but the amount was not disclosed in the report. State-run MTNL, Videocon and Tata Teleservices are also part of the list.

Digital payment companies are already fighting against the telecom industry at the Delhi High Court saying that the telcos are careless in handling the spam SMSes aspect which is allowing fraudsters to confuse the users of the digital payments. Paytm is leading the charge. A lot of customers complain to Paytm on social media platforms regarding the spam SMSes received by them to change the Paytm account password, asking for OTP and more.

The Delhi High Court earlier asked Trai to look into the matter and take necessary action. A major penalty on top telcos means the battle at the Delhi High Court might swing in favour of digital payment companies.

BSNL and other telcos are yet to respond to Trai’s new penalties, but they might reply to the regulator in the coming weeks.

Airtel Terms Rs 999 Xstream Fiber Broadband Plan as Best Seller: What It Offers?

Posted: 24 Nov 2020 05:32 PM PST

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/airtel-rs999-xstream-fiber-best-seller/312925/, Airtel Terms Rs 999 Xstream Fiber Broadband Plan as Best Seller: What It Offers?

Internet Service Provider (ISP) Bharti Airtel has termed its Rs 999 Xstream Fiber broadband plan as ‘Best Seller,’ on its website. The Airtel Xstream Fiber broadband plans have some attractive offerings which put them right against the JioFiber plans. The Airtel Xstream Fiber broadband plans are available at five different prices- Rs 499, Rs 799, Rs 999, Rs 1,499 and Rs 3,999. As you can see, all these plans from Airtel go against the similarly priced plans of JioFiber. For basic users, the Rs 499 and Rs 799 broadband plans should be sufficient, however, the Rs 999 plan is also being chosen by many. The Rs 999 Airtel Xstream Fiber is a unique offering from the company thanks to benefits like 200 Mbps speeds and access to OTT subscriptions. Continue reading why Airtel’s Rs 999 broadband plan could be the best seller.

Airtel Xstream Fiber Rs 999 Broadband Plan: What It Offers?

Let’s first talk about the benefits offered by Airtel with its Rs 999 broadband plan. The Airtel Xstream Fiber Entertainment plan aka Rs 999 plan comes with 200 Mbps download and upload speeds along with unlimited data benefit. While Airtel says the plan comes with unlimited data, it is capped at 3.3TB or 3300GB per month. The ISP is also providing unlimited voice calling benefit with this plan via its landline service.

Alongside that, Airtel is also offering free Xstream Box bundled with this plan. Customers opting for the Rs 999 plan will also get one month of Airtel Digital TV HD pack subscription, free ZEE5 Premium subscription worth Rs 999, free Amazon Prime membership worth Rs 999 and free Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscription.

For the unaware, Airtel is not offering the OTT subscription and Xstream Box with its broadband plans priced below Rs 999. The Rs 499 and Rs 799 plans come with 40 Mbps and 100 Mbps speeds along with unlimited data and landline voice calling. This is similar to JioFiber’s Rs 399 and Rs 699, which just serve as standard broadband plans.

Customers are inclined towards the Airtel Xstream Fiber Entertainment plan priced at Rs 999 because of the free Android TV-based Xstream Box and the OTT subscriptions. Additionally, Airtel is also shipping one month of free HD channel pack with its Xstream Box. This could be the reason behind it becoming the best seller on Airtel’s portfolio.

Airtel also has a couple of premium broadband plans priced at Rs 1,499 and Rs 3,999, but they are aimed at the heavy users. And yes, they also ship with free Airtel Xstream Box and OTT subscriptions.
