BSNL 4G: Technology Group Opposes Telco’s Views on Using Local Gear

Posted: 25 Nov 2020 09:20 PM PST

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-4g-group-opposes-local-gear/313241/, BSNL 4G: Technology Group Opposes Telco’s Views on Using Local Gear

BSNL has received a reply from the Empowered Technology Group (ETG) regarding the comments it made on using locally made gear for rolling out 4G services. The group had allegedly declined to consider BSNL’s views on not using local gear. BSNL recently approached the DoT saying it couldn’t trust domestic core network. The telco also opposed the government’s views of stopping investments on 2G network and deploy 4G networks. We recently reported that BSNL Employee Unions are complaining of the high prices quoted by local vendors for a 4G tender compared a tender from global vendors.

ETG Has Not Considered Suggestions Put Forward by BSNL on Local Gear for 4G Tender

As noted, the ETG headed by K VijayRaghavan as Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) reportedly rejected to consider BSNL’s views on the usage of local network gear. “The panel in its virtual meeting today has not considered suggestions put forth by BSNL against the telecom department’s (DoT) committee that recommended using core network from domestic companies, and building an Indian telecom stack with a focus on national security,” a source familiar with the matter told ET Telecom.

The Indian government is pushing telecom operators not to use network gear from Chinese vendors like Huawei and ZTE. For the unaware, ZTE deployed a lot of gear for BSNL in the past.

In a recent letter to DoT, BSNL rejected to consider the views provided by the department’s technical committee of cutting down investments on 2G networks. The telco urged that 60% of its customer base are still on 2G and cutting down investments will impact them badly and could also impact the revenues. Furthermore, BSNL noted that having separate core networks for 2G & 3G and 4G is not an ideal choice.

The latest reply from the ETG will disappoint BSNL Employee Unions. The ETG is expected to draft the 4G tender for BSNL by the end of this week.

Redmi EarBuds 2C Became Best-Selling TWS in Q3 2020, Overall Market Soared 723% YoY

Posted: 25 Nov 2020 08:00 PM PST

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/redmi-earbuds-2c-tws-market-share/313212/, Redmi EarBuds 2C Became Best-Selling TWS in Q3 2020, Overall Market Soared 723% YoY

As expected, India’s TWS market registered a massive growth of 723% YoY in Q3 2020, according to Counterpoint. The market research firm says it is one of the few segments which managed to escape the impact of economic slowdown due to the pandemic. It is also the highest ever market growth in shipments for a single quarter. Xiaomi’s affordable Redmi Earbuds 2C became the best seller in the quarter that ended on September 30, 2020. However, the market leader is boAt, followed by Xiaomi and Realme. Apple managed to sneak into the top five, largely due to the increase in Apple AirPods shipments.

boAt Leads the TWS Market in India Followed by Xiaomi

In a surprising turn of events, boAt, one of the prominent brands in the audio market became the No.1 player by expanding its portfolio and launching many devices across price tiers during the quarter. The boAt Airdopes 441 is the company’s best-selling model grabbed the second spot in the top list for model shipments. Counterpoint says the boAt Airdopes 441 grabbed the customer attention with features like water resistance, better sound quality, USB Type-C port and up to 25 hours of battery life.

Moving on, we have Xiaomi at the second spot with a market share of 16%. The Chinese company launched the affordable Redmi Earbuds 2C at just Rs 1,299 (the promotional price of Rs 999), and it is the top-selling model during the quarter. The Redmi Earbuds 2C was launched in September and it became the best-selling model in the initial quarter of launch.

Realme stood on the third spot with a market share of 12%. Counterpoint predicts that Realme’s drop in market share is due to the lack of no new launches from the brand in Q3 2020. The best-selling models for the company were Realme Buds Q and Realme Buds Air Neo, which are on the third and fourth spots in the overall top-selling list.

JBL grabbed the fourth position with 9% share, whereas Cupertino giant Apple was on the fifth spot with 6% share. The Apple AirPods (2nd Gen) model also found a place in the top five list for model shipments. Not including earbuds inside the latest iPhones will only help Apple to further increase its market share.

The TWS market in India is getting competitive with every passing day as more and more brands are entering the segment. In the last few months, we saw brands like OnePlus, Vivo, Oppo and Infinix joining the already existing brands.

4G Work from Home Data Vouchers from Jio, Vodafone Idea and Airtel Offer Up to 100GB

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/4g-work-from-home-data-vouchers/313188/, 4G Work from Home Data Vouchers from Jio, Vodafone Idea and Airtel Offer Up to 100GB

As we entered the pandemic earlier this year, telecom operators in India introduced ‘Work from Home’ plans. You might ask us- what’s the difference between the standard prepaid plans and the ‘Work from Home’ plans. After the daily data plans became more attractive, telecom operators stopped offering dedicated data plans. Before the pandemic, all we had was a 6GB additional 4G data plan around Rs 100. But now, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea are offering dedicated data plans which offer up to 100GB of data benefit. They are pricey, but they come in handy for a lot of subscribers who rely on mobile data for their work. Read ahead to know more about the 4G Data Vouchers from the top three telcos in detail.

Reliance Jio 4G Work from Home Vouchers: Benefits Detailed

Starting with Reliance Jio, it has three ‘Work from Home‘ packs with up to 50GB data benefit on offer. The first pack on the list is priced at Rs 151; It comes with 30GB of data benefit. The Rs 201 and Rs 251 prepaid work from home packs offer 40GB and 50GB data benefit respectively. All three packs have 30 days of validity from the date of recharge.

Besides, Jio is also offering a slew of other plans such as ‘Cricket’ pack and Disney+ Hotstar plans without any voice calling or SMS benefits. With the Jio Cricket pack priced at Rs 499, users can avail 1.5GB data per day without any voice calling for 56 days. And there’s Disney+ Hotstar VIP membership worth Rs 399 bundled as well with the Cricket plan.

Vodafone Idea 4G Work from Home Vouchers: Benefits Detailed

Similar to Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea or Vi currently has three work from home packs, but it does not compete with the former on the affordability front. Vi’s Rs 251 Work from Home pack ships with 50GB of data for 28 days, whereas the Rs 351 pack offers 100GB of data benefit for 56 days.

The third plan on the list is priced at Rs 355. It is basically the Rs 251 data pack with ZEE5 Premium membership added on top. The plan comes with 50GB of data benefit for 28 days.

Bharti Airtel 4G Work from Home Vouchers: Benefits Detailed

Bharti Airtel currently has a single Work from Home data voucher priced at Rs 251. Similar to the Rs 251 plan from Jio and Vi, Airtel’s Rs 251 plan also offers 50GB data benefit. However, the difference here is the validity. Airtel’s data plan does not have any expiry date, meaning it will be valid similar to the combo prepaid plan.
