PUBG Mobile– the popular mobile game could make a return in India by the end of this year. In September this year, the Indian government decided to ban the game citing several reasons like gameplay nature, data security and more. Right after the ban, PUBG Corporation parted ways with Tencent assuming that the ban might be lifted. But that wasn’t the case. In the latest development, the servers for India were shut down on October 30 after which users are no longer able to play the game in India. A new report from TechCrunch now suggests that PUBG Mobile is eyeing to make a comeback in India by of 2020. The company is expected to announce the return for Indian audience this weekend.

PUBG Mobile Return: Could It Be Possible?

Citing two people familiar with the matter, TechCrunch reports the firm is in active talks with global cloud service providers to host the data within India. It also informed some popular streamers regarding its return to India by year-end. For now, there’s no official announcement regarding this news from PUBG Corporation, but we could see the news coming officially ‘as soon as this week.’

The Indian government banned PUBG Mobile along with several other Chinese apps due to data security. This issue will be solved once the company sets up a local data server. But some reports also hinted that the government is having a major issue with the nature of the game itself. In China, PUBG Mobile was never allowed to launch because the government felt it is spreading ‘violence.’ The same reason is being said by the Indian government as well. It will be interesting to see how the South Korean company tackles this concern.

For publishing the game in India, PUBG actively engaged in talks with some big firms like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Paytm. So far, nothing is confirmed and we suggest you take this news with a pinch of salt.

Vi and Airtel to Share Details of Segmented Offers With Trai: SC

vi-airtel-share-details-segmented-offers-trai-sc

The Supreme Court (SC) of India has asked both Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) to share all the details regarding segmented offers with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). Two years back, in 2018, the Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) had favoured telcos by allowing them not to disclose the details of their segmented offers with Trai. As per an ET Telecom report, hearing the appeal of Trai, the SC has over-ruled the order by the telecom tribunal and asked the telcos to share all the tariff details with the regulator. More details on the story ahead.

Telcos to Share Tariff Details With Trai as per SC

As per an order from the Supreme Court of India, Vi and Bharti Airtel will have to disclose the details about every 'specific' or 'segmented' offer they make to the users. Both the telcos have argued until now that sharing the details would violate the commercial confidentiality of the offers. This would help the competitors of the telco approach their customers with similar offers.

However, in a decision given on Friday, the SC has allowed Trai to track information regarding every specific or segmented offer the telcos are offering. At the same time, the SC has also directed Trai to keep all the details received from the telcos confidential so that their competitors can't gain knowledge to it.

When TDSAT had earlier ruled in favour of the telcos, the operators continued to offer users customised discounts for retaining them and on top of it, they didn't need to disclose any detail about the offers made. But now it isn't the case anymore, both Bharti Airtel and Vi will have to comply with the order given by SC. This would increase the transparency of the offers made.

General Solicitor Tushar Mehta representing Trai had earlier said that telcos shouldn't create a special class for customers and make anti-competitive and discriminatory offers. He had argued that the specific or segmented offers made by the telcos fall under the Tariffs category only and should be under the purview of Trai.

apple-macbooks-with-in-house-silicon-chipsets

Apple's most anticipated product after iPhones is Macs. In the WWDC 2020 event held on June, Apple announced about the new Macs which will ship with the in-house silicon chipsets instead of the Intel ones. The announcement surely got the Mac fans excited about the release of a new Mac which won't just be more powerful but might also be cheaper because of the in-house production of CPUs. But the new Macs with the silicon chipsets might not arrive at the market until Q2, 2021. More on the story ahead.

Apple Has Ordered 25 Lakh MacBooks With New Silicon Chipsets

As per a report from Nikkei Asia, Apple has ordered its suppliers to produce 25 lakh (2.5 million) new MacBook laptops with silicon chipsets by early 2021. When compared, the 25 lakh laptops is equivalent to 20% of the number of MacBooks Apple shipped in the year 2019.

Much recently Apple also announced a new event, 'One More Thing'. The event is scheduled to take place on November 10, 2020. While Apple didn't give any clue about what the event will uncover, many assumed that it would be for the new Macs. There is no denying that it still could be about the new Macs, but one thing that could be certain is that Apple won't be shipping the silicon chipset Macs anytime soon.

Apple might also announce the new macOS Big Sur on the launch event alongside the new Macs. The Cupertino tech giant is looking to rapidly cut down on the new MacBooks with Intel processors. Apple's new CPUs for the MacBooks are being designed in-house but are manufactured by the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TMSC).

Adding to this, starting October, Apple has also asked its suppliers to produce 2 crore units of iPhone SE, iPhone XR, and iPhone 11 until the year-end. Also, as per the same report from Nikkei Asia, the production of iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max will be stopped by the company. The reason behind this move by Apple is that the two models would affect the sale of the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max directly.

whatsapp-pay-finally-rollout-for-indian-users

WhatsApp Pay is an in-chat system which will allow users to chat with other people and with that make payments as well. The National Payments Corporation of India (NCPI) which regulates all the digital retail financial transactions in the country has finally allowed WhatsApp Pay to become a reality for the Indian users. Now WhatsApp can rollout out its payment feature for the Indian users, but there is a limit imposed. The social media giant is only allowed to roll-out this feature to a maximum of 20 million users initially. More details on the story ahead.

WhatsApp Pay Might Give Tough Competition to Other UPI Platforms

The user limit for WhatsApp Pay has been capped at 20 million users initially by the regulator. Adding to this, NCPI announced recently that no User Payments Interface (UPI) platform such as Google Pay, Paytm UPI, and PhonePe will be allowed to carry out more than 30% of the total transactions which take place in the country. This order will be imposed from January 2021.

The new regulation by NCPI is likely to affect PhonePe and Google Pay, the two biggest UPI platforms in the country. WhatsApp Pay was supposed to launch in the country much earlier, but the social media giant just couldn't seem to get permission from the regulator to start its services.

Many feared about the unfair advantage that WhatsApp Pay would have had because of the 400 million users of the platform. But now that worry has been put to rest since WhatsApp Pay can't have more than 20 million users to start with.

According to a blog release from WhatsApp, "Starting today, people across India will be able to send money through WhatsApp. This secure payments experience makes transferring money just as easy as sending a message. People can safely send money to a family member or share the cost of goods from a distance without having to exchange cash in person or going to a local bank."

WhatsApp Pay is now available for the users running the latest version of Android or iOS in the country. Also, to send money through WhatsApp Pay, the users must have a bank account with a debit card in India.

How You Can Setup WhatsApp Pay for Your Device?

To set up WhatsApp Pay for your device, simply open the app, go to the action overflow menu which is the three dots on the top right corner of your screen and hit on the 'Payments' button. Then select 'Add new payment method' and 'Accept and continue'. After that, you can select and add your bank account. This account should ideally be your primary UPI account. Post that, you will need to verify your number via an SMS. Hit on the 'Allow' button to let the verification start. Select the bank account associated with your number and hit on the 'Done' option to complete the process.

Then to send any contact money, just select the chat of that particular contact and select the clip icon located below on the screen. There you will get the 'Payment' option, choose that. Then enter the amount you want to send and enter your UPI pin when prompted. If you entered the right pin, you will get a confirmation message for the completion of the transaction.

chinese-smartphone-brands-positive-market-share

Chinese brands witnessed a positive market share gain in the Indian market in Q3, 2020. In the July-September period, Chinese smartphone brands saw a 2% gain in their market share. In the previous quarter, the market share for Chinese brands stood at 72% whereas, by the end of the Q3, the same figure stood at 74%. A thing worth noting is that the largest percentage of the smartphone market is still by the Chinese brands only. This is still behind the 81% market which the Chinese smartphone makers had in the same year in the January-March period. More details on the story ahead.

Chinese Smartphone Brands May See Further Gain in Festive Season

As per a Counterpoint report, Chinese brands may see a further gain in the market percentage in the upcoming festive season. Brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, and Realme have exciting devices launched in recent times which may be bought more under the festive offers. This would contribute to the market percentage of the overall Chinese brands in India and the figure can rise from 74% to 75%.

One thing to pay attention to is that there are Indian smartphone brands also available for the users. Micromax recently announced two new entry-level smartphones for the Indian market with decent specs. Even though it won't be a very big competition for the Chinese brands, it would certainly bring back the Indian smartphone brands to the market as well.

Shilpi Jain, an analyst at Counterpoint said, "The scepticism around Chinese brands has subsided now but consumers have a lot of options from global brands like Samsung and Apple who are getting aggressive both in their pricing and channel strategy. In this year, we expect the Chinese brands to remain between 70-75% market share."

Coming back to the Indian smartphone brands, they are also expected to see a growth in the market share percentage. In the Q3, 2020, the Indian brands could only gain 0.02% market and the figures rose from 0.45% to 0.47%.

Individually, Samsung came out as the leading smartphone brand in India capturing a market share of 24% in the Q3, 2020.

After more than two years since the beta launch, WhatsApp Pay has finally received the much-awaited nod from National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for a full-fledged launch. Starting today, people across India will be able to send money through WhatsApp. The instant messaging platform will make use of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for secure payment experience. As for UPI, it is a real-time payment system with over 160 supported banks. WhatsApp also said it would initially roll out the payments service to 20 million users. WhatsApp last said it has over 400 million users in India. Besides the payments service, WhatsApp also rolled out disappearing messages to both Android and iOS users.

WhatsApp Pay Rolling Out to All Users in India

All the basic terms and conditions required to use UPI service apply to WhatsApp Pay. To send money on WhatsApp in India, it's necessary to have a bank account and debit card in India. WhatsApp says it is working with five leading banks in India- ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, the State Bank of India and Jio Payments Bank. People can send money on WhatsApp to anyone using a UPI supported app.

“In the long run, we believe the combination of WhatsApp and UPI's unique architecture can help local organizations address some of the key challenges of our time, including increasing rural participation in the digital economy and delivering financial services to those who have never had access before,” said WhatsApp in a blog post.

WhatsApp Pay will be available for both Android and iOS users starting today. Initially, it will be rolled out to 20 million users.

In other news, WhatsApp also introduced the option to use disappearing messages. When this feature is turned on, new messages sent to a chat will disappear after seven days, helping the conversation to become more private. In a one-to-one chat, either person can turn disappearing messages on or off. In groups, admins will have control, confirmed WhatsApp.

The disappearing messages feature will be available to all the users across the world by the end of this month.

Rs 199 Postpaid Plans from BSNL and Reliance Jio Compared: 25GB Data, Unlimited Calling and More

Posted: 05 Nov 2020 05:35 PM PST

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-jio-rs199-postpaid-plans-compared/308736/, Rs 199 Postpaid Plans from BSNL and Reliance Jio Compared: 25GB Data, Unlimited Calling and More

Yesterday, we reported the launch of BSNL’s entry-level postpaid plan priced at Rs 199. As the price of the new plan itself suggests, it is aimed at the same Rs 199 plan from Reliance Jio. For the unaware, Jio had just one postpaid plan until the JioPostpaid Plus plans launched recently. At Rs 199, both Reliance Jio and BSNL are offering unlimited voice calling, 100 SMSes per day and 25GB data benefit every month. But there are some key differences which are worth noting. Both the telcos aren’t providing benefits like OTT subscriptions or family add-ons, but at Rs 199 you can’t ask much from either of the telcos.

BSNL vs Reliance Jio Rs 199 Postpaid Plan Benefits Detailed

Starting with the Rs 199 postpaid plan from Reliance Jio, it offers unlimited on-net voice calling and the voice calls to other networks will be charged at six paise per minute. Other benefits include 25GB of 4G data without any daily data limit and there’s no data rollover facility as well. If a user exhausts the alloted monthly 25GB data, then Jio will charge them at Rs 20 per GB up to 500GB. Lastly, users also get free access to Jio apps and 100 SMSes per day for one month.

Now moving onto the BSNL’s Rs 199 postpaid plan, it also offers the same unlimited on-net voice calling, 25GB data benefit with rollover up to 75GB and 100 SMSes per day. Unlike Jio, BSNL is also offering 300 minutes of off-net calling.

Both the postpaid plans offer similar benefits, but the BSNL plan has some advantages like added off-net minutes and data rollover facility. As we mentioned in the previous article, BSNL is going to launch these plans on December 1, 2020. Earlier, the state-run telco used to offer postpaid plans of Rs 99 and Rs 225, however, it is now discontinuing them with the Rs 199 plan.

BSNL is also bringing the Rs 798 and Rs 999 postpaid plans next month which come with additional benefits like family add-ons, data rollover and more. After nearly three years, BSNL is stepping up the game in the postpaid segment, but the lack of 4G services will continue to hurt the telco. BSNL might also offer OTT subscriptions with the Rs 798 and Rs 999 postpaid plans. It also revised the Rs 525 postpaid plan with family add-on benefit.
