Let’s Talk
In recent times, we are hearing a lot about Satellite Internet. Companies such as OneWeb and SpaceX’ Starlink are planning to launch satellite internet services in India in the coming years. Satellite Internet helps the people who live in the rural parts of the country. SpaceX recently suggested to Trai that satellite internet can deliver internet to every corner of the country, irrespective of how remotely the users live. Starlink is already offering satellite internet to a limited section of people in the United States, and the speeds offered by the company are also decent. In the United States, a couple of satellite internet providers are also delivering speeds of up to 100 Mbps which is very good considering the technology is still in nascent stages. The big question now is: will satellite internet be the next big thing in India? Satellite Internet in India: What You Need to KnowThe biggest advantage with Satellite Internet is the availability. India has just over 20 million wired broadband connections, despite having the service for several years now. The wired broadband segment is riddled with issues like slow internet speeds, migration to fibre technology and a majority of the companies are still unable to provide services in remote parts of the country. While JioFiber is aiming to solve the three issues, we are not expecting the ISP to offer services in remote areas right away, and it will take another 3-4 years for the brand to build infrastructure. The Indian government is aiming at a Public Wi-Fi model to offer high-speed internet, but that again will take at least a couple of years to become a reality. Here’s when the satellite internet comes into the picture. Companies like OneWeb and Starlink by SpaceX are aiming at launching their internet services in the next couple of years. The internet speeds factor is still under the radar, and we don’t know what the companies are planning to offer in the country. While availability becomes the biggest advantage for satellite internet, the pricier and slow data speeds are the major disadvantages. In the US, a satellite internet service provider is charging $125 (approx. Rs 9,200) per month for 30 Mbps of speeds with 120GB FUP limit. That’s a lot of money. The data plans by telcos in India are the cheapest and if the satellite internet companies opt for a pricier business model, users may not show interest in the service. What are your thoughts on Satellite Internet service in India? Will it be affordable? Let us know by commenting below. Original article: Is Satellite Internet Going to Be the Next Big Thing in India? | Difference Between Wired and Wireless Routers, All to Know Posted: 19 Dec 2020 03:30 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/difference-between-wired-and-wireless-routers/318316/, Difference Between Wired and Wireless Routers, All to Know
Internet routers are essential whether you want to get an internet connection for your home or your business. Thus, understanding about the different kind of routers and how they work is important so that you can pick the right one for yourself. Choosing the right router would also enable you to configure the network settings in the manner which stands to benefit you the most. So basically, there are two types of routers that you can get – wired and wireless. Today, we are going to be listing all the differences between the two and will help you in understand which one is the best for you. Wired Routers vs Wireless RoutersWired routers are the old generation routers. They connect directly with other networking devices such as computers, printers and more through cables. These kind of routers are very reliable since they are connected directly to other devices through cables in turn ensuring that connection drops are minimal. Whereas, the wireless routers don't require to be connected with cables through other devices for providing internet. Modern-day wireless routers can also support dual-band connectivity channels of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. With these routers, multiple devices can be connected to the network at the same time. Whereas with wired routers, there is a hassle of cords and in some cases only one device can be connected with the router. Internet SpeedEarlier, wired routers were more reliable for achieving high internet speeds and wireless routers were kind of looked down upon. But things have changed! Now even the wireless routers can provide high internet speed to the users. Fibre internet connections can provide users with up to 1 Gbps and even higher downloading and uploading speeds. In terms of office work, wireless routers make more sense today. There are fax machines, printers, and other devices which require high-speed internet connectivity. With wired routers, only a limited number of devices can be connected to the network. But with a wireless router, all of them can be connected at the same time and high-speed network can also be ensured. Even for homes, high-speed internet connectivity is required by multiple devices such as laptops, Smart TV, Set-Top Boxes, and more. For all of this, a wireless router is more apt. But some businesses still prefer wired routers because they are more reliable when connectivity drops are concerned. They can also provide high speed downloading and uploading, so at the end of the day, it is more about what you require from your broadband connection. | Bharti Owned OneWeb to Provide Satellite Internet in India by Mid 2022 Posted: 19 Dec 2020 01:08 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bharti-oneweb-to-provide-satellite-internet-india/318310/, Bharti Owned OneWeb to Provide Satellite Internet in India by Mid 2022
OneWeb, a satellite internet operator is all set to provide high-speed internet services in India by 2022. For the unaware, OneWeb is owned by Bharti Group and the UK government. Today it launched a total of 36 satellites into space from the Vostochny cosmodrome in Russia. The company has plans for providing high-speed internet services in India by mid-2022 and in the global markets by late 2021. Sunil Mittal, Chairman of the Bharti Enterprises said that this step by the company is just the start in building the world's first Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation for providing uninterrupted internet services all around — more details ahead. OneWeb to Provide Satellite Internet in Unconnected and Under Connected AreasOne thing that's beneficial about satellite internet is that it can reach even the remotest of locations. That's what OneWeb seeks to achieve as well. Mittal said that OneWeb will be providing internet services in regions of the country where there is less or no access to broadband connectivity at all. The 36 new satellites launched recently takes the total tally of OneWeb's satellites out in the space to 110. OneWeb is looking to build a constellation of 648 satellites so that it can provide high-speed internet access globally. For doing so, the company has already completed four launches and secured global priority spectrum. Shravin Mittal, Managing Director of Bharti Enterprises expressed that OneWeb is ready to enter the Indian market either through a commercial partnership route or directly on its own. The satellite internet operator is eyeing to start Indian operations by June 2022.
In the current scenario, a satellite internet operator from foreign cannot directly provide broadband connectivity services without first passing through the Antrix corporation which is the commercial and marketing leg of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Bharti Group earlier this year saved OneWeb from going bankrupt by investing a total of $1 billion through Bharti Global along with the UK Government. For the unaware, Bharti Global is the overseas business group of Bharti Enterprises. Initially, OneWeb will be focusing on providing satellite internet services in countries such as the UK, the US, Greenland, Iceland, Northern Europe, Canada, and the Arctic Seas. The constellation of satellites by OneWeb will allow users to access high-speed internet regardless of wherever they are in the concerned region, be it sea, air, or land. The officials of OneWeb have said that the company has already started hiring at a fast pace and will be returning to its full operations very soon. | Dish TV Box Service Plan Extends Your Set-Top Box Warranty for 1 Year at Rs 99 Posted: 18 Dec 2020 10:00 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/dishtv-warranty-extension-stb-plan/318279/, Dish TV Box Service Plan Extends Your Set-Top Box Warranty for 1 Year at Rs 99
Dish TV is one of the top DTH operators that care about providing best customer support. As we are already aware of, all the DTH operators provide one year of free warranty with their Set-Top Boxes. Earlier, Tata Sky used to offer three years of warranty with its STBs, but that was withdrawn last year, and the company now offers just one year of warranty. Dish TV is allowing users to extend their Set-Top Box warranty for one year at just Rs 99. The warranty extension plan is also available for D2h users since it is also part of the Dish TV itself. Dish TV & D2h customers can purchase the ‘Box Service Plan’ to extend their STB warranty for another year. Dish TV & D2h Users Can Get Additional STB Warranty for Rs 99The Box Service Plan from the house of Dish TV & D2h was introduced a few months back. It costs Rs 99 for one year, and with taxes, the charges are Rs 117. Dish TV and D2h users can visit the company’s website and log in with their registered mobile number to avail the additional warranty. Dish TV says the customers can avail the Box Service Plan during the primary warranty period and there will not be any verification from the company’s end. However, if a customer opts for the Box Service Plan after the expiry of the primary warranty, then the company’s technician will verify the condition of the STB. If the STB requires any repair, the customer will have to pay the charges for the whole repair and then the Box Service Plan will be activated. If the STB is in working condition, then the Box Service Plan will be activated instantly. In case if the STB is not in a repairable position, then Dish TV will replace the STB with a refurbished model. Nevertheless, it is a good offer from Dish TV and the allowance of availing the plan even after the primary warranty’s expiry is icing on the cake. As for Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV, both are providing one-year of primary warranty similar to Dish TV & D2h. We don’t generally see a lot of complaints from the users related to Set-Top Box. The only issue users face with STBs is the smart card replacement, at least that’s what I faced with my Sun Direct and Dish TV connections in Hyderabad. | BSNL Work from Home Prepaid Plan of Rs 251 Offers 70GB Data for 28 Days Posted: 18 Dec 2020 05:32 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-rs251-work-from-home-plan/318243/, BSNL Work from Home Prepaid Plan of Rs 251 Offers 70GB Data for 28 Days
BSNL introduced the ‘Work from Home‘ prepaid STVs to compete with the private telcos. Data consumption in India has been on the rise for a few years now and the pandemic forced a lot of employees to work from home that further resulted in increased data usage. Private telcos removed data-only plans a couple of years ago as the standard prepaid plans are currently offering daily data benefit. Thanks to almost sufficient daily data benefit, customers are no longer bothered to recharge data-only STVs. However, the pandemic forced telcos to bring back the data packs, although with a different name- Work from Home plans. Taking on the likes of Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea, BSNL also brought three Work from Home data-only STVs priced at Rs 56, Rs 151 and Rs 251. Continue reading to know more about these plans in detail. BSNL Work from Home Prepaid STVs: Everything You Need to KnowAforementioned, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has three prepaid STVs aimed at the users who are working from home. Basically, these are just data-only prepaid plans without any voice calling and SMS benefits on offer. Starting with the Rs 56 Work from Home STV, it offers a total of 10GB of data valid for ten days from the date of recharge. The Rs 151 STV comes with 40GB of data benefit, whereas the Rs 251 STV ships with 70GB of data benefit. Both the Rs 151 and Rs 251 prepaid STVs come with 28 days validity. BSNL should have offered the validity more than 28 days, at least the validity of these STVs should have been the validity of the existing prepaid plan. Earlier this month, BSNL added ZING Music app subscription to these Work from Home STVs to make the overall benefits appealing to the customers. BSNL Work from Home STVs Compared to Airtel, Jio and Vi STVsReliance Jio, as usual, is offering three work from home prepaid plans priced at Rs 151, Rs 201 and Rs 251, with 30GB, 40GB and 50GB data benefit. Airtel and Vi are offering a Rs 251 prepaid data pack with 50GB benefit on offer. Vi also has a Rs 351 data only prepaid plan with 100GB data. As you can see, BSNL is ahead of other telcos as its Rs 251 recharge offers 70GB data compared to the 50GB data benefit offered by private telcos. In Kerala and other circles where BSNL has 4G network, the Rs 251 pack offers 4G data on-par with the private telcos.
