Vodafone Idea Refarms 3G Spectrum for 4G in Bengaluru

Vodafone Idea is following the footsteps of Bharti Airtel in refarming the 3G spectrum for 4G. The telco stated it successfully deployed 3G spectrum for 4G in Bengaluru. As part of this process, Vi refarmed 3200 sites across the entire city for 4G. However, the telco reaffirmed it would continue offering 2G services across Bengaluru. The refarming of 3G for 4G will enhance the telco’s GIGAnet 4G capacity in Bengaluru. This essentially means Vodafone Idea customers in the city will only experience 2G and 4G services going forward. Vi 4G customers in Bengaluru will now be able to experience faster download speeds.

Vi to Offer 2G and 4G Services in Bengaluru

Arvind Nevatia, Cluster Head- Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Vodafone Idea said, “Supplementing the existing 4G infrastructure with the deployment of another layer of 2100 MHz has brought about enhanced data speeds, besides a better indoor network experience for Vi customers in Bengaluru. We request all Vi 3G customers to visit the nearest retail outlet at the earliest to upgrade to a 4G SIM and start experiencing the full potential of Vi GIGAnet 4G". To recall, Vi deployed 5 MHz of 900 MHz spectrum band at the end of 2019.

Furthermore, Vodafone Idea added that the existing 4G infrastructure with the refarming of 3G spectrum would receive a major boost, and allows the company to deliver better network quality, wider coverage and handle more data capacity in Bengaluru.

Telecom operators in India are slowly phasing out 3G services to match Reliance Jio. For the unaware, Bharti Airtel already phased out 3G services across the country and Vi could soon join the list. But both the GSM operators are ensuring that the customers will continue to enjoy 2G services. In other news, Vi has raised prices of its base Family postpaid plans by up to Rs 51 and the prepaid tariff hike could also happen very soon.

Market research firm, Counterpoint, has released a new report analysing the after-sales service from top Indian brands. We all know that customer service has become a key factor in finalising a smartphone purchase. Samsung was rated as the best after-sales service provider in India for years now. However, that’s changing as other brands are catching up on this front to gain consumer trust. The Counterpoint report highlights Oppo was the No.1 brand in customer satisfaction for after-sales service, followed by Vivo, Xiaomi and Samsung. The report named 'Smartphone After-sales Service Study' by Counterpoint also highlighted that customers spend an average amount of Rs 2,400 for servicing their out-of-warranty phones.

Chinese Brands Lead the After-sales Service in India: Counterpoint

Counterpoint stated that one in every four smartphone owners in Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Noida and Ahmedabad visit a service centre within six months of purchase. Customers are facing problems related to charging, software (hanging) and display. The survey has been conducted across Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Noida and Ahmedabad with 1,000 respondents who had taken an after-sales service from their respective smartphone brand.

As for the findings released by Counterpoint, eight out of ten respondents are satisfied with the after-sales service experience. Oppo was the No.1 brand in customer satisfaction for after-sales service with 93% of the respondents rating ‘very good’ or ‘excellent.’ Oppo is closely followed by Vivo, Xiaomi and Samsung with a customer satisfaction rating of 85%, 81% and 81%, respectively.

Furthermore, Oppo was also the fastest in after-sales turnaround. Both Oppo and Realme are close to each in the turnaround time aspect as 73% and 72% of the respondents received their device on the same day from Oppo and Realme. Vivo stood third on the list with 68% turnaround time. The Oppo customers also waited for the least at the service centre. Counterpoint says about half of the respondents were attended within 15 minutes of arrival at the Oppo service centre. Realme, Samsung and Xiaomi closely followed in this aspect.

Beating Samsung, Oppo maintained its spare parts better than the competitors. Xiaomi was rated highest on ‘explanation of the problem’ as well as solution. Xiaomi was slightly ahead in knowledge and soft skills of the customer support executives compared to other leading brands. Xiaomi also did well on solving software side issues or creating awareness to the customers with its larger online community. The Chinese company managed to solve several software issues on the go, which avoided a physical visit to the service centre. Xiaomi is followed by Vivo and Oppo here.

Lastly, nine out of ten respondents got their smartphones serviced within two visits. Oppo and Xiaomi users reported the least number of instances of having visited a service centre earlier with the same problem.

WhatsApp Pay Clocks 20 Million Transactions in November 2020

whatsapp-pay-million-transactions

WhatsApp Pay was officially announced for India on November 2020. During the month, the payment service platform registered 20 million financial transactions passed through it. When it was initially announced, the platform was restricted only to be rolled out to 1 million users in the country. But later the maximum user limit was extended to 20 million users. However, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform hasn't got a flying start during its first month of operation. WhatsApp Pay clocked less than 1% of the total UPI transactions that took place in the month — more details ahead.

WhatsApp Pay Yet to Hit its Maximum Users Limit

Registering less than 1% of the total UPI transactions in the month of November 2020, it is indeed a slow start for WhatsApp Pay. As per a report shared by the ET Telecom, WhatsApp Pay saw over 20 million transactions last month.

To get a perspective of how small this number is, the overall market saw a total of 2.2 billion UPI transactions in November 2020. Compared to October's 2.1 billion total transactions, it is a growth of 7% for total UPI transactions in the country.

A thing worth noting here is that WhatsApp Pay currently allows only peer-to-peer payments. The peer-to-merchant payments haven't been allowed until now. WhatsApp has over 400 million monthly active users in the country, so there is no denying that this number will increase as time passes by.

WhatsApp Pay hasn't even been able to successfully hit the maximum users limit in India until now. But that is because the feature is still in the rollout phase in India.

Google Pay and PhonePe are ruling the markets when it comes to UPI transactions. These two platforms are part of over 80% of the total transactions that take place in the country. Behind these two are Paytm and Amazon Pay.

Overall, India is said to have approximately 100-120 million active UPI users. National Payments Corporation of India (NCPI) has said that none of the UPI platforms can carry out more than 30% of the total transactions from January 2021.

Excitel Broadband Offering New Fiber Plans With Double Speed for Just Rs 50 More

excitel-broadband-new-fiber-plans

Excitel, one of the fastest-growing private broadband companies in India is now offering double speed to the users at the cost of Rs 50 more per month. A thing worth remembering here is that this benefit is only there on the 12 months plan. The broadband service provider offers three plans with different speeds – 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps, and 300 Mbps. These plans are further offered with different validities such as 1 month, 3, months, 4, months, 6 months, and so on until 12 months — more details ahead.

Pay Rs 50 More Per Month and Double the Speed With Your 12 Months Excitel Plan

The 12 months broadband plan offering 100 Mbps speed to the users is priced Rs 699 per month. But when the user purchases the plan directly for 12 months, its price drops to Rs 399 per month (Rs 4,788 for a year).

But if the user wants, he/she can pay Rs 50 more per month on the 12 months plan and get the 200 Mbps plan instead of the 100 Mbps one. The price of the 200 Mbps plan for 1 year is Rs 449 per month (Rs 5,388 for a year). Likewise, by paying Rs 50 more on the Rs 449 per month plan, the user could get the 300 Mbps plan for Rs 499 per month (Rs 5,988 for a year) with 12 months validity.

The new plans are going to be applicable from December 1, 2020. Just for comparison, the 200 Mbps, 1-month plan costs Rs 799 and 300 Mbps, 1-month plan costs Rs 899. When looked carefully, the price difference between the one-month plans is Rs 100.

So going by the same logic, the user can double his/her internet speed by paying Rs 100 extra for the one-month plans. The only major difference would be the base price between the per month cost when the user purchases a plan for 12 months and the per month cost when the plan is purchased on a 1-month basis.

Vivek Raina, CEO and Co-Founder, Excitel, said, "We are offering 100 Mbps speed without any data restrictions at an affordable cost of INR 399/month. Our packages are truly unlimited, moderately priced and we try to deliver the best in class services and technology within that price."

OnePlus 9E Tipped to Launch Alongside OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro Next Year

Posted: 01 Dec 2020 09:06 PM PST

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/oneplus-9e-price-specs-rumoured/314456/, OnePlus 9E Tipped to Launch Alongside OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro Next Year

Chinese smartphone brand, OnePlus, will likely launch three smartphones under the OnePlus 9 series next year in March. Up until now, rumours were rife about the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro smartphones. However, a new smartphone named OnePlus 9E is now tipped to debut alongside the other two OnePlus phones. If this rumour is believed to be true, this would be the first time we will see OnePlus launching thee phones under a single series. OnePlus started launching two smartphones under a single series from 2019 and the strategy worked for the brand as it managed to differentiate the standard and Pro model every year. The dual phone strategy also pushed OnePlus to climb the price ladder. The OnePlus 9E could well be priced on the lower side similar to the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE.

OnePlus 9E: What to Expect?

This information came from the reliable OnePlus leaker, Max J. He also posted an image of the OnePlus 9 smartphone names placed in the order of OnePlus 9, 9E and the 9 Pro. However, we are not expecting the OnePlus 9E to sit between OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, instead, it could be the entry-level model in the OnePlus 9 series. We recently saw Samsung launching the Galaxy S20 FE at a lower price taking on the OnePlus 8T smartphone. The S20 FE is the cheapest model in the Galaxy S20 series that already consisted of Galaxy S20, S20+ and the S20 Ultra smartphones.

We are expecting OnePlus to use a similar strategy. The 9E will likely retain the Snapdragon 888 5G SoC, however, the handset might have other compromises in the hardware department like plastic body and toned-down cameras. It is also entirely possible for the OnePlus 9E to feature a Snapdragon 700 series SoC, but that would clash with the OnePlus Nord series. The OnePlus Nord is already using the best Snapdragon 700 series chip aka the Snapdragon 765G.

We are excited to see what OnePlus has in store with the OnePlus 9E. The OnePlus 9 is said to sport a triple camera setup, whereas the 9 Pro will likely feature a quad-camera setup on the back. The phones are expected to debut sometime in mid-March 2021.

Vodafone Idea Launches REDX Family Postpaid Plan at Rs 1,348: Everything You Need to Know

Posted: 01 Dec 2020 05:42 PM PST

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/vodafone-idea-redx-family-postpaid-plan/314417/, Vodafone Idea Launches REDX Family Postpaid Plan at Rs 1,348: Everything You Need to Know

As we reported yesterday, Vodafone Idea introduced a new REDX Family postpaid plan similar to the REDX plan for individual postpaid users. The launch of the new plan comes right after the price hike on Vi REDX Family plans of Rs 598 and Rs 749 which are now available at Rs 649 and Rs 799. The new Vi REDX Family postpaid plan is available at Rs 1,348, up from the original REDX plan that’s available at Rs 1,099. Similar to the Vi REDX individual postpaid plan, the Vi REDX Family plan also offers free access to Netflix for one year and other benefits like Amazon Prime subscription & ZEE5 Premium. However, the plan does not offer any free add-on connections like other Vi RED Family postpaid plans.

Vi REDX Family Postpaid Plan at Rs 1,348: Benefits Detailed

The complete terms and conditions of the Vi REDX Family postpaid plan are unavailable at the moment. But we do have the benefits offered by the plan. For starters, the Vi REDX Family plan also offers unlimited data benefit (capped at 150GB per month), unlimited voice calling to any network and 100 SMSes. These benefits are for the primary connection. For secondary connections, the Vi RED Family plan offers unlimited voice calling, 30GB data with rollover up to 50GB and 100 SMSes for one rental.

But, here’s the catch. The new plan does not provide any free add-on connections, so the customer will have to choose secondary connections by paying Rs 249 per month for every connection. With the Vi REDX Family plan, a customer can add up to four secondary lines. Once added, the benefits for the secondary connections are listed above and they are standard across all the connections. Vodafone Idea should have provided at least one secondary add-on connection at no extra cost with this postpaid plan.

The plan also comes with other benefits like one year of Netflix subscription worth Rs 5,988, one year of free subscription to Amazon Prime, one year of ZEE5 Premium worth Rs 999 and free access to Vi Movies & TV app. Users will also get free access to international & domestic airport lounges at no extra cost- four times per year. These OTT and airport lounge access can be redeemed via the primary connection.

It is a very good move from Vodafone Idea to launch a Family REDX plan, but the company should have at least added one secondary add-on connection for free to make the plan more attractive. More details regarding the Vi REDX Family plan are awaited.
