OnePlus 8T Concept Phone With Colour Changing and Motion Tracking Abilities Unveiled

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/oneplus-8t-concept-phone-detailed/318985/, OnePlus 8T Concept Phone With Colour Changing and Motion Tracking Abilities Unveiled

Chinese smartphone brand, OnePlus, today unveiled a new concept for OnePlus 8T. Earlier this year at the CES 2020, the Chinese company showcased the OnePlus Concept One- a concept phone that uses electrochromic glass technology which gave the phone invisible cameras on the rear. With the OnePlus 8T concept phone, the company says it is “pushing the boundaries of human interaction with mobile technology yet again.” This official OnePlus 8T concept uses new technologies such as Electronic Color, Material and Finish (ECMF), Reactive Sensing Technology (ECMP + mmWave) and touchless notifications. This is a one-of-its-kind concept phone and the first one to use 5G’s mmWave technology.

Official OnePlus 8T Concept Detailed

OnePlus says the new OnePlus 8T Concept combines design inspiration from nature and a burdenless approach to interact with devices. OnePlus says the phone is designed to deliver a ‘better user experience.’ It used a combination of natural design inspiration and advanced technologies to create a more natural interaction between users and the device.

Firstly, the OnePlus 8T Concept designers took inspiration for the colours on the back from the multi-hued flowing water in the hot springs from Pamukkale, Turkey. It features Electronic Color, Material and Finish (ECMF) which allows the physical design of the device to work dynamically with the user and software features. The OnePlus 8T Concept uses a colour-changing film that contains metal oxide in the glass. OnePlus says the valence state of the metal ions varies under different voltages, so when the metal oxide activates, the colour of the glass changes from a dark blue to a light silver.

Here comes the interesting part. The ECMF design becomes more interactive by working in combination with mmWave to change the way we interact with the technology. OnePlus is calling the combination of ECMP and mmWare as ‘Reactive Sensing Technology.’ “The working principle behind this technology, borrowed from 5G, is that the mmWave radar module transmits and receives electromagnetic waves. When receiving electromagnetic waves, the digital signal processing (DSP) and CPU perform signal and information processing, allowing the device to perceive, image, locate, and track objects,” said OnePlus on its forums.

So, that’s the OnePlus 8T Concept. However, you might be wondering how this concept can be useful for potential users? Well, OnePlus says the combining of shifting colours on the electrochromic back of the OnePlus 8T Concept with mmWare sensing technology is just the first step in opening up a wide range of possibilities for how people interact with their smartphones. OnePlus believes that there will be many more use cases for Reactive Sensing tech in the near future.

Furthermore, the ECMF could flash colours for an incoming call and users could accept or reject the call with a simple gesture. This paves the way for more gesture usage without the requirement for touching the phone. Lastly, the mmWave technology is capable of registering a user's breathing, enabling the colour to change in sync and effectively making the phone a biofeedback device. The OnePlus 8T Concept, in effect, breathes with you, said the Chinese company.

The pandemic has disturbed the whole education system in India. As children continue to stay in their homes, multiple companies are trying hard to push the e-learning initiative. Direct-to-the-Home Television companies in India are also trying their best to provide virtual classroom or e-learning service to the users. Tata Sky, the country’s top DTH operator with over 30 million subscribers, today announced that its ‘Tata Sky Classroom‘ platform service would be available for free to the users going forward. With this move, Tata Sky is aiming to help children learn directly from their television screen itself. The Tata Sky Classroom is part of the operator’s Platform Services which we reported recently. Earlier, the Tata Sky Classroom service was available for Rs 3 per day.

Tata Sky Classroom Service: Everything You Need to Know

Powered by Tata ClassEdge, the Tata Sky Classroom service will be available in both Hindi and English languages. Since the operator made the service free, children will get unrestricted access to educational content right on their TVs. The Tata Sky Classroom offers curriculum-based learning in Maths and Science courses for students from class 5th to class 8th.

Besides the regular course-related classes, Tata Sky says the service will also offer curriculum-based games, sample papers and full-length practice tests to the students. This will help the students assess what they have learnt by watching the classroom lectures.

The Tata Sky Classroom service is already available on channel number 653. The main reason behind Tata Sky, making the Classroom service free is to allow the students in Tier 2, 3 & 4 cities learn without any hassle. As noted, the pandemic has brought a lot of challenges to the education section and the major one is student unable to get access to e-learning services. Some of the remote areas in India may not have proper internet service, so the Tata Sky Classroom service comes in handy for them, as students can learn from their TVs itself. At the moment, the Tata Sky Classroom service is offering classes only for Maths and Science courses.

Airtel vs Jio Rs 999 Postpaid Plan: Which One is Better?

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/airtel-vs-jio-rs-999-postpaid-plans-compared/318946/, Airtel vs Jio Rs 999 Postpaid Plan: Which One is Better?

airtel-vs-jio-rs-999-postpaid-plans-compared

A few months back, Reliance Jio launched a series of new postpaid plans under the 'JioPostpaid Plus' branding. These new plans were a refreshing offer from the telco since for many years all the users could get from Reliance Jio when it came to postpaid plans was a Rs 199 plan which offered 25GB unlimited data and 100 SMS/day along with unlimited voice calling benefit. But after JioPostpaid Plus plans, users can get much more out of the postpaid offerings which put Jio in competition with other operators who offer similar plans. Today, we are going to be comparing the Rs 999 postpaid plans offered by Jio and Airtel and see which one is better. Keep reading ahead to find out more about this.

Airtel Rs 999 Postpaid Plan

The Rs 999 postpaid plan from Airtel is the second most expensive plan from the telco. It offers users 150GB of data with the added benefit of 100 SMS/day and unlimited voice calling to any network within India. This plan also offers users Amazon Prime Video for 1 year totally free. Users also get a free subscription of Airtel Xstream Premium, Disney+ Hotstar VIP for 1 year, and handset protection for free. There are other Airtel Thanks benefits included as well.

With this plan, users can get up to 3 add-ons. This means that there can be one primary connection and 3 add-on connections. There is also data rollover facility provided with this plan.

Jio Rs 999 Postpaid Plan

The Rs 999 postpaid plan from Reliance Jio is also the second most expensive plan from the telco. This plan offers users 200GB data for free and thereafter charges Rs 10 for every addition gigabyte of data consumed. This plan can provide 3 add-on connections as well. Users get unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day along with a complimentary subscription of all the Jio apps. Users also get data rollover facility of up to 500GB data with this plan.

In over-the-top (OTT) benefits, users get a free subscription of Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar VIP.

Airtel vs Jio Rs 999 Postpaid Plans: Conclusion

In terms of OTT benefits, the clear winner here is Reliance Jio. This is because it also offers a free subscription of Netflix. When it comes to the data offered, Reliance Jio leads by offering 200GB data instead of Airtel's 150GB data. Apart from these differences, both the plans are largely similar. The number of add-on connections is also similar. So at the end of the day, Jio's Rs 999 postpaid plan is only marginally better than Airtel's.

oneplus-33w-fast-charger-oneplus-9-launch

OnePlus launched multiple devices this year. The Chinese smartphone maker entered the mid-range segment again with the launch of OnePlus Nord devices. Now the company is expected to continue with its mid-range devices and might further launch OnePlus Nord 2 and OnePlus Nord SE in the coming year. A new 33W fast-charger from OnePlus was recently spotted in the TUV Rheinland Certification website. It is expected that this charger is for the mid-range devices that OnePlus might launch in the near future — more details on the story ahead.

OnePlus 33W Fast-Charger

As per a report from Gizmochina, the new product from OnePlus spotted on the certifications platform was a 33W fast-charger. Now it is important to note that OnePlus hasn't confirmed or hinted in any manner that this fast-charger is for the mid-range devices. But it is quite plausible that OnePlus sticks with 65W fast-charging technology for its premium smartphones.

Thus, that leaves the mid-range smartphones with the 33W fast-charging technology. It is worth noting that OnePlus already provides users with a 33W fast-charger with its mid-range smartphones in the country and is expected to continue doing so.

OnePlus 9 50MP Sensor

In another report from Gizmochina, OnePlus 9 is expected to come with a 50MP primary sensor. The OnePlus 9 series is expected to bring three new smartphones to the market, namely OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, and OnePlus 9 SE. These devices are expected to launch by March or April next year.

As per rumours, OnePlus has partnered with a German company called Leica for designing its cameras for the OnePlus 9 series smartphones. The OnePlus 9 is expected to feature a triple-camera setup at the rear with a 50MP primary ultra-vision wide-angle sensor.

The primary sensor is expected to be paired with a 20MP secondary ultra-wide-angle lens and a 12MP telephoto sensor. Nothing's confirmed yet, and since all of it is a rumour, the original specs of the OnePlus 9 might differ.

The OnePlus 9 might be coming with a 6.55-inch FHD+ flat-screen display with support for HDR and 120Hz refresh rate. It is expected to be powered by the latest flagship chipset of Qualcomm namely Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The device is expected to run on OxygenOS based on Android 11 out of the box.

If OnePlus has indeed partnered with Leica, the cameras of the device are expected to be more powerful in capturing live images and recording 4K videos.

oppo-reno5-pro-5g-sony-camera-lens

Oppo earlier this month launched the Reno5 5G and Reno5 Pro 5G for the Chinese market. During the launch, the company also hinted about the launch of Reno5 Pro+ 5G, a third variant in the series. Oppo is expected to launch the Reno5 Pro+ 5G on December 24, 2020. Until now, Oppo hadn't confirmed anything about the device, but the Chinese smartphone maker has recently revealed through a teaser on Weibo that the Reno5 Pro+ 5G will feature a custom made primary camera sensor from Sony — more details on the story ahead.

Oppo Reno5 Pro+ 5G to Feature Sony IMX766 Primary Sensor

Oppo Reno5 Pro+ 5G will feature the custom made Sony IMX766 primary sensor of 50MP. It is worthy to note that this is the only smartphone in the whole market which will feature this sensor. Both Sony and Oppo have worked together in developing this sensor for the Reno5 Pro+ 5G, and it is improbable that Sony will provide this sensor to any other smartphone maker.

Through the teaser, only the kind of sensor that is going to be used was revealed by the company. Oppo did not detail other features such as its focal length, aperture, and more. The Reno5 Pro+ 5G is expected to feature a quad-camera setup at the rear.

Apart from the 50MP sensor, it is expected that the device will feature a 16MP ultra-wide angle sensor, a 13MP telephoto sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. As for selfies and video calling, there might be a 32MP primary sensor at the front.

Oppo Reno5 Pro+ 5G Specifications (Expected)

One more thing that could be made certain of looking at the teaser released by Oppo is that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC will power the Reno5 Pro+ 5G. Adding to this, the device will come with support for 65W fast-charging technology.

According to the rumours online, the device is expected to feature a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with curved edges and a punch-hole design. There might be an in-display fingerprint scanner, and the screen of the Reno5 Pro+ 5G might support up to 90Hz refresh rate.

Oppo Reno5 Pro+ 5G is expected to come with a 4,500mAh battery, and since 65W fast-charging technology has confirmed by the company, users won't find any issues with the battery.

The Oppo Reno5 Pro+ 5G is likely to launch on December 24, 2020, but there are no rumours on its global release. However, the other two devices in the series, namely Reno5 5G and Reno5 Pro 5G are expected to arrive in the global markets soon.

OnePlus Working With Google on Wear OS Has No Relation to OnePlus Watch

Posted: 20 Dec 2020 09:40 PM PST

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/oneplus-google-wearos-relation-watch/318858/, OnePlus Working With Google on Wear OS Has No Relation to OnePlus Watch

The OnePlus Watch is real and it is confirmed to be in the works, but it has no relation with the Chinese company and Google working together for improving Wear OS. Last week, a report from The Input said OnePlus is working on its smartwatch and that will run Google’s Wear OS. The report also said that Wear OS is currently not in the perfect position to adopt and the company is working with the search giant Google to improve the smartwatch OS. So essentially the report said OnePlus Watch would run Wear OS out of the box. But when 9to5Google reached out to OnePlus for clarification, the company confirmed the OnePlus Watch is in the works, and it is also working with Google on improving Wear OS. However, OnePlus said the two things have no relation, after all.

OnePlus Watch May Not Run Wear OS After All

Last week, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau in an interview with The Input said the company is working with Google in improving the connectivity between Wear OS ecosystem, Android TV and Android smartphones. Since Lau himself confirmed the association between OnePlus and Google, everyone assumed the upcoming OnePlus Watch would boot Wear OS itself.

In an interesting turn of events, OnePlus clarified that there’s no relation between the company working with Google and its Watch running Wear OS. Speaking to 9to5Google, OnePlus clarified that the OnePlus Watch is not yet confirmed to run Wear OS.

In the last few months, we have been hearing multiple rumours about the OnePlus Watch. First, the Watch was expected to be unveiled alongside the OnePlus 8T in October, but that did not happen. Multiple tipsters claimed the OnePlus Watch launch has been postponed indefinitely. Then, later on, another tipster going by name Max. J claimed that the OnePlus Watch would not run Wear OS. However, the tipster did not clarify whether the company is developing a new smartwatch OS or killing the OnePlus Watch project itself.

And now, we have some official confirmation itself. The OnePlus Watch is yet to be finalised to run Wear OS. The final decision will most likely depend on how the partnership between Google and OnePlus goes in improving the Wear OS, and whether the connectivity between the Android ecosystem increases. OnePlus’ parent company Oppo is already using Wear OS on its Oppo Watch smartwatches, so most likely it will be the same case with OnePlus Watch also.

ARPU Would Take Several Years to Reach Minimum Acceptable Level: COAI DG

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/telecom-arpu-minimum-acceptable-level/318851/, ARPU Would Take Several Years to Reach Minimum Acceptable Level: COAI DG

Over the last few quarters, telecom operators saw a slight increase in Average Revenue per User (ARPU). As the country went into lockdown to combat COVID-19, the ARPU of telecom operators, especially Bharti Airtel, has been on the rise because of the high utilisation of telecom services by the customers. S.P. Kochhar, the Director General at Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), opined that the recent ARPU growth is ‘not adequate’ and it requires to grow further at a faster rate. He also mentioned if the ARPU grows at the current pace, the telecom industry will take several years to reach the minimum acceptable level of ARPU.

ARPU Should Grow at a Higher Rate: COAI

Kochhar mentioned that the ARPU of telecom operators is required to grow much more with a higher growth rate to break even. As we already know, Bharti Airtel is aiming at Rs 300 ARPU in the coming quarters, and Jio is also showing decent ARPU increase with every passing quarter. The COAI DG also mentioned that the ARPU is on the rise thanks to high utilisation of telecom services during the lockdown.

“ARPUs have gone up, but they have gone up marginally. This marginal growth is not sufficient to bring them at a break-even level and if they grow the way they are rising, it will take many many years before they can come to a minimum acceptable level,” Kochhar said, as reported by IANS.

In the next couple of quarters, the ARPU of Bharti Airtel will likely rise to Rs 200, whereas the same for Jio would be around Rs 170. But again, that depends on when the next tariff hike takes place.

COAI Director General Also Urges for Spectrum Price Reduction

Furthermore, he reiterated that the spectrum charges and license fee should be reduced to see takers. “Spectrum charges, licence fee needs to be reduced. What are we going to do with the spectrum if there are no takers…,” he said speaking to IANS.

The Director General also reiterated the financial health of the sector is ‘bad.’ If telcos really want to roll out 5G services to India, the financial health of the industry should improve first. “Without improving the financial health, it will be very difficult for the telcos to really invest so heavily into technologies,” he further added.

The Union Cabinet recently approved the next spectrum auction plan by DoT and it might take place by March 2021.
