OnePlus 9 Lite Rumoured to Launch Alongside OnePlus 9 Series With Snapdragon 865 SoC

OnePlus 9 Lite is now rumoured to be the affordable flagship smartphone from the house of OnePlus for next year. Earlier, we saw reports saying the OnePlus 9E will be launched alongside the OnePlus 9 series. However, a new Android Central report now highlights the OnePlus 9 Lite will launch along with the OnePlus 9 flagship series in Q1 2021. So the OnePlus 9 series will have three smartphones- the standard OnePlus 9, the premium OnePlus 9 Pro and the affordable OnePlus 9 Lite. The new report also says the OnePlus 9 Lite will be powered by last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform. OnePlus never used an old-generation flagship Snapdragon chipset on its flagship series, but that will change with the OnePlus 9 Lite.

OnePlus 9 Lite Launching in Q1 2021: What You Need to Know

The launch of OnePlus 9 Lite does not surprise many. The OnePlus 8T now starts at Rs 42,999, whereas the OnePlus 8 is currently available at a price of Rs 39,999. The OnePlus 7T is still available for purchase at Rs 37,999. By using the Snapdragon 865 chipset on OnePlus 9 Lite, the company will be aiming to reduce the price of the smartphone. Both the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are rumoured to make use of the Snapdragon 888 5G chipset.

If the OnePlus 9 Lite launches around Rs 35,000, it could still have some demand sitting between the OnePlus 8T and the OnePlus Nord. OnePlus will discontinue the 7T in the coming months, so the OnePlus 9 Lite could take its place on the pricing front.

Android Central also predicts that the OnePlus 9 Lite will likely have a lot of similarities to the OnePlus 8T, starting with the Snapdragon 865 SoC. Other than that, the OnePlus 9 Lite could feature a 90Hz or 120Hz refresh rate screen, 65W fast charging and probably the same camera hardware. But again, nothing is confirmed for now.

The OnePlus 9 series is expected to launch in March 2021 and the sales could begin at the beginning of April. As for the OnePlus 9 Lite, the report says it could retail at $600 (approx. Rs 45,000), but the Indian pricing would be different. The Snapdragon 865 chipset was pricier and OnePlus did not launch any ‘affordable flagship’ this year. While the case might remain the same next year, the OnePlus 9 Lite with Snapdragon 865 SoC would still be a powerful smartphone, especially considering the phones are coming out in Q1 2021 itself. Besides, OnePlus might also launch the OnePlus Watch alongside the three phones during its event in March.

Bharti Airtel Adds 3.67 Million New Users in October, Beats Jio Comfortably: Trai Data

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) released Telecom Subscription Data as on October 31, 2020. During the month, Bharti Airtel again managed to beat Reliance Jio in monthly subscriber additions, and the story of Vodafone Idea remains the same. According to Trai, Airtel added 3.67 million new customers in October, whereas Jio managed to add just 2.22 million users. Vodafone Idea, on the other hand, lost 2.65 million existing users. Surprisingly, BSNL has lost just over 10,000 existing users in the month. BSNL is the only telecom operator apart from Reliance Jio which added subscribers almost every month since 2016. Airtel also strengthens the active user base with a whopping 96.74% subscribers active on its network.

Bharti Airtel Now Has 96.74% Users Active on its Network

Reliance Jio dominated the telecom industry for nearly four years and the telco amassed 400 million users in no time. But Jio is facing slowed subscriber additions over the last three months. The biggest concern for Jio would be Airtel adding more users, in fact, almost double the subscribers. In October 2020, Airtel added 3.67 million new users that took its overall subscriber base to 330.29 million.

Reliance Jio grabbed 2.65 million new users boosting its overall subscriber base to 406.36 million. Since Vodafone Idea lost 2.65 million users, the telco’s overall user base reduced to 292.84 million. BSNL’s loss of 10,000 users means the customer base at the end of October stands at 118.98 million.

While Jio is leading the overall subscriber base chart, Airtel is miles ahead in the Active User Base section. Airtel’ active user base stood at 96.74% and the same for Jio is 78.59%. Out of Vodafone Idea’s 292.84 million active users, the telco currently has 88.78% users active on its network. BSNL users active on the network are just 61.38% (51.59%).

The market share of Reliance Jio at the end of October stands at 35.28%, followed by Bharti Airtel at 28.68%, Vodafone Idea 25.42% and BSNL at 10.33%.

India Registers 8.80 Million New MNP Requests

The same Trai report highlighted a total of 8.80 million MNP (Mobile Number Portability) requests were received in October. It seems like the Vodafone Idea users are aggressively migrating to Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. Out of the 8.80 million new requests, 4.76 million requests were received from Zone-I, and 4.06 million requests were received from Zone-II. MNP requests increased from 520.80 million at the end of September 2020 to 529.60 million at the end of October 20, since the implementation of MNP.

It will be interesting to see how many subscribers Vodafone Idea loses in November 2020. Reliance Jio will be eager to turn the tables by introducing low-cost 4G Android smartphones.

Today we will list all the broadband plans that come with OTT benefits, unlimited data, and more from all the aforementioned ISPs.

This plan from Reliance Jio comes with a validity of one month and offers users 100 Mbps downloading and uploading speed along with 3.3TB (3,300GB) data for the month. There is no voice calling benefit included in this plan, and Jio doesn't offer any over-the-top (OTT benefits) with this one.

So you can download and stream without any worry of exhausting your monthly high-speed data. The plan is available with long-term validity as well. There are no OTT or voice calling benefits included with this plan.

ACT Rs 799 Plan

The Rs 799 plan from ACT, the same as Airtel Xstream Fiber provides users with 100 Mbps downloading and uploading speed. Users get 1,000GB monthly FUP data with this plan which reduces to 512 Kbps once the FUP data is exhausted. This plan from ACT doesn't offer users any other benefit.

JioPhone to Make its Comeback in Early 2021: Report

jiophone-make-its-comeback-in-early-2021

The JioPhone from Reliance Jio was a blessing in disguise for people in India who couldn't afford to upgrade to a 4G smartphone. The feature 4G device is all set to make its comeback to the Indian market in early 2021. Followed by the JioPhone, the entry-level 4G smartphone which Jio and Google are working on is expected to launch for the Indian market. The announcement for the device was made by Mukesh Ambani in the 43rd Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) — more details on the story ahead.

JioPhone to Launch Next Quarter

As per a report shared by the Economic Times, Reliance Jio is all set to bring back its feature 4G mobile, JioPhone to the Indian market. For the unaware, earlier this year the device was pulled out of the market by Jio. The company said that it is facing issues with sourcing components for the device.

But now, Jio has partnered with a new supplier and shook hands with a contract manufacturer Flex for making its feature 4G device again. JioPhone was launched back in 2018 in India. It was priced at Rs 1,500.

Given its low pricing and support for 4G network and connectivity, it quickly became a hit amongst the people in the low-income class of India. Because of JioPhone, Reliance Jio became the largest mobile selling company in the country. But when things were going good for the company, because of component scarcity, Jio had to halt its production.

According to a report shared by Counterpoint Research, Reliance Jio sold over 100 million JioPhone devices in the country. This in turn means that 26% of Jio's total subscriber base use JioPhones.

Looking at the success of the JioPhone, Reliance Jio decided to launch another such device for the Indian market. A while later, the company came up with JioPhone 2. This device was priced at Rs 2,999 and was an upgrade over the JioPhone.

One of the contributing factors behind the success of JioPhone was the refund scheme given to the users. Every user purchasing the device was allowed to return it to the company after 3 years and get a complete refund on their purchase.

Now the device is ready to come back next quarter, which means early 2021 in India. Followed by the comeback of JioPhone, the entry-level 4G smartphone being developed by Jio and Google is expected to launch as well. It will be interesting to see how the market reacts to the comeback of JioPhone when another low cost 4G smartphone from the company is on the brink of launch.

Weak Network Experience will Push Users to Switch Operators Than Tariff: Opensignal

weak-network-experience-push-users-switch-operators
Opensignal, a mobile analytics company on Monday said that the mobile operators across the world will put a "greater thought on where to build mobile base stations" in the upcoming years. The company in a report released on Monday made its predictions on "The Mobile Future" for 2021 and beyond. Opensignal highlighted that 2020 witnessed "changes in the locations and nature of mobile usage across many countries including India" along with the "changes in mobile data consumption levels" due to the pandemic. With the changes felt across multiple fronts inside the telecom ecosystem including the shift in the location of mobile usage, Opensignal said that the operators will "look at how to manage capacity more dynamically."

Telecom Network Models to be Re-Evaluated from 2021

The mobile analytics company in late July, 2020, said in a report that the mobile users in the Tier 2 cities in India "were the most affected during the lockdown." Opensignal also highlighted that the mobile networks in urban areas recovered quickly post the easing of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions due to multiple reasons including migration of workers from cities to their hometowns. The company said that the migration of workers would mean that the users "may be spending more time in parts of the country where operators originally may have not designed network infrastructure to manage large traffic loads."

"As lockdowns ease, operators will look at how to manage capacity more dynamically, for example between downtown areas and residential suburbs, and be more nimble to future changes in the pattern of mobile usage," Opensignal said in a report on Monday.

Crucially, Opensignal said that the "business case for building ultra dense 5G networks with small cells" in areas such as city centres will be "re-evaluated" if users spend less time there in the future.

"New 5G cloud core network techniques will be adopted to maximize flexibility," Opensignal said in the report.

Poor Network Experience will Urge Users to Change Operators Than Price

Meanwhile, the mobile analytics company said that the "weak mobile experience is more important" to be a deciding factor than mobile tariffs in causing users to switch operators in the upcoming year.

"With so many people having relied more on telecom services this year," Opensignal said in its report. "In 2021, Opensignal predicts that mobile experience will be the most important catalyst for smartphone users to decide if they want to change mobile operators."

Further, Opensignal said that the mobile operators with 5G services will use group video communication to increase 5G uptake. The company also said that the video chat applications along with increase in video consumption under 5G will result in increased data usage.

"Mobile video chat existed before COVID, but the experience of 2020 has pushed group video communication into the mainstream," Opensignal said in its report. "With more video participants, there is greater pressure on the capacity of the mobile network, more data traffic and a more demanding experience."

The mobile analytics company also said that many operators will launch 5G services in 2021 and that these operators will "invest in network infrastructure that is shared by 5G and older mobile technologies."

"This better onward connectivity will boost the experience for 4G users too," Opensignal said in its report. "This will make the difference between the initial 5G experience, and the 4G experience, seem narrower."

BSNL Attempts to Retain Broadband Customers By Offering Free Installation Service

bsnl-broadband-customers-free-installation-service

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has a special offer for people looking to get a new broadband connection in the near future. Much recently, the Twitter handle of BSNL Kerala announced that users could get their next broadband connection without needing to pay anything for the installation service. Usually, when people get a broadband connection from the state-run telco, they need to pay multiple ancillary charges which include a charge for installation service of the connection as well. But now, under a limited time offer, people living in the Kerala region of the country can get their next broadband connection from BSNL with zero installation cost — more details on the offer ahead.

BSNL Offering Broadband Connections With No Installation Cost

BSNL Kerala has announced that users who get new broadband, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), or even a landline connection will be exempted from paying any installation charges. But this offer is not for everyone.

It is only for people who got either of the aforementioned connections removed before or on September 30, 2020. People who got their connections removed post that date will not be eligible to receive the offer and its benefits.

This is an offer which is only reserved for the users living in Kerala. The operator hasn't extended this offer in any other telecom circles of the country yet. There are more terms and conditions associated with the offer.

The first one is that the installation charges will be removed only when the eligible user purchases a broadband plan from the telco for at least six months or more. The plan’s rental will have to be paid by the user in advance for six months or more; else, the offer will not be provided to the user. BSNL Kerala also mentioned that LCO provisioning charges might be applicable for FTTH users.

This move clearly indicates that BSNL is looking to retain its lost subscribers. How effective it will be, only time will tell. It is worth noting that BSNL recently crossed the milestone of a million Bharat Fiber users. The telco announced new Bharat Fiber plans a few months back to compete with the fiber offerings from Airtel and Jio.

At the same time, BSNL is continuously losing subscribers for some time on the wired broadband segment. The telco has said nothing about extending this offer to other telecom circles of India yet, but something like that might happen quite soon.

OnePlus Watch Arriving Early Next Year, Confirms Pete Lau

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/oneplus-watch-launch-confirmation-ceo/319242/, OnePlus Watch Arriving Early Next Year, Confirms Pete Lau

Chinese smartphone brand, OnePlus, will soon set its foot in the wearables category. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau officially confirmed on Twitter that the OnePlus Watch is coming early next year. Last week, the OnePlus CEO in an interview said the OnePlus Watch has been in the works for a while, but the chief person did not reveal anything about the launch date of OnePlus Watch. Now, he officially confirmed the arrival of OnePlus Watch as ‘early 2021’ to the public. We are expecting the OnePlus Watch to launch alongside the OnePlus 9 series in March next year. As for other details, the OnePlus Watch may not run Wear OS and might have a circular dial.

OnePlus Watch Confirmed: What to Expect

With the OnePlus Watch, the company will be joining its sister companies- Oppo, Realme and Vivo. The three other BBK Electronics companies entered the wearable market this year, whereas OnePlus will be entering the segment early next year. Unlike the Oppo Watch which sports a square-shaped dial, the OnePlus Watch will likely feature a circular dial.

On December 1, Peta Lau took to Twitter asking the audience what the company should launch next. ‘We've made phone cases, headphones, even backpacks. So I want to ask: what's your favourite accessory for OnePlus? And is there something you want to see that we haven't done yet?’ he tweeted back then. Majority of his followers voted for a smartwatch. ‘Many of you said you wanted a watch, and as you might have heard over the weekend—we’re making one, to be released early next year. Wishes do come true,’ he tweeted today.

Last week, OnePlus spoke with The Input regarding its upcoming smartwatch, saying that it is working closely with Google to improve Wear OS connectivity. However, the company later clarified that OnePlus Watch might not come with Wear OS. The company working with Google in improving Wear OS has no connection with the OnePlus Watch running Wear OS. This could mean the OnePlus Watch might run in-house smartwatch software.

The Oppo Watch runs Wear OS and it is currently rated as the best smartwatch available for Android users. If OnePlus manages to solve the connectivity issue with Android and smartwatches, it could replicate the same success as it did in the smartphone industry a couple of years ago. The Apple Watch is the best smartwatch available, but Apple is yet to offer WatchOS support for Android users.

Reliance Jio Rs 1,299 Prepaid Plan: How It Fares Against Airtel, BSNL and Vi’s Rs 1,499 Pack

Reliance Jio is known for its affordable prepaid plans in the industry. Time and again, the Mukesh Ambani-led telco proved to be the go-to operator for users looking for prepaid plans on a budget. While a lot of prepaid users recharge with either three-month plans or monthly plans, a section of users also recharges the annual plans. Reliance Jio used to offer Rs 1,299 prepaid recharge with 365 days validity, however, the validity has been reduced to 336 days. The Rs 1,299 plan competes with the Rs 1,499 prepaid plans from Bharti Airtel (Rs 1,498 in the case of Airtel), BSNL and Vodafone Idea. As you can see, the price of Jio’s plan is already lower than that of the rivals, but what about the benefits? Let’s find out.

Reliance Jio Rs 1,299 Prepaid Recharge: Benefits Detailed

Firstly, let’s talk about the Rs 1,299 prepaid plan from Reliance Jio. It comes with 336 days validity, 24GB of data benefit after which the speeds will be reduced to 64 Kbps, unlimited Jio to Jio voice calling, 12,000 non-Jio FUP minutes and a 3600 SMSes for the entire validity. Jio users will also get complimentary access to Jio apps like JioTV, JioCinema, JioSaavn and so on.

Bharti Airtel Rs 1,498 Prepaid Recharge: Benefits Detailed

Bharti Airtel has a prepaid plan of Rs 1,498 that offers similar benefits to the Rs 1,299 prepaid plan of Reliance Jio. Airtel’s Rs 1,498 recharge comes with 24GB of 2G/3G/4G data, unlimited voice calling to any network within India, 3600 SMSes and 365 days validity. Users will also get free access to Airtel Xstream App Premium, free Hellotunes, Wynk Music subscription with unlimited downloads, Rs 100 cashback on FASTag and free online courses via Shaw Academy.

Vodafone Idea and BSNL Rs 1,499 Prepaid Recharge: Benefits Detailed

Both Vodafone Idea and BSNL are offering a similarly priced Rs 1,499 recharge. They are providing 24GB data, unlimited voice calling to any network within India and 3600 SMSes. Similar to Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea is also offering truly unlimited voice calling, whereas BSNL is limiting the voice calls to 250 minutes per day.

As you can see, Reliance Jio’s plan is priced Rs 200 less than that of rival operators, but the telco is providing 29 days less validity. In addition to that, Jio is also limiting the voice calls to non-Jio networks at 12,000 minutes.

If you are looking for an affordable annual recharge, you can choose the Rs 1,498 or Rs 1,499 prepaid plans from Bharti Airtel or Vodafone Idea. Jio’s plan is also a better option, but if you are someone who makes a lot of non-Jio calls, the FUP of 12,000 minutes for 336 days may not be feasible.
