Xiaomi is yet to set its foot on the foldable smartphone segment and that’s changing in 2021. The Chinese smartphone company is tipped to launch three foldable phones in 2021. Samsung is currently ruling the foldable smartphone segment with the likes of Z Fold 2 and Z Flip. The South Korean company so far launched three foldable phones and the ones launched in 2020 are the best effort from the brand. The Galaxy Z Flip is a vertically folding smartphone whereas the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a horizontally folding device. Xiaomi might launch foldable phones in three different form factors. It is also expected that the first foldable phone in 2021 will also be from the house of Xiaomi. Xiaomi Foldable Phones: What to Expect? This news is tipped by Ross Young, the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). Ross tips that Xiaomi will be the first smartphone brand to launch a foldable smartphone in 2021 since the flagship Mi 11 series is launching next week, and the company will be left with no flagship launches for Q1 2021. Ross also tipped the form factors to be used by Xiaomi; He says the three foldable phones from the company will have different designs. The first foldable phone will be outfolding, the second one will be in-folding and the third one will be a clamshell foldable phone. We have seen Samsung using both the in-folding and clamshell foldable phone design, so we are excited to see how Xiaomi improves the design compared to existing Samsung foldable phones. On the other hand, not many brands tried to launch outfolding foldable phones, except for a few like Royole. The Royale FlexPai is the outfolding foldable phone from the company. The major concern with outfolding foldable phones is the display would be exposed to scratches. Besides Xiaomi, other smartphone brands like Oppo and Samsung are also reportedly working on outfolding phones. In 2021, Samsung will likely launch three foldable phones- Galaxy Z Flip 2, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold Lite. It seems like 2021 will be the year of foldable phones. More brands, especially the ones from China, will be stepping their foot in the segment. Original article: Xiaomi to Give a Tough Fight to Samsung in 2021 With 3 Foldable Phones ©2020 TelecomTalk. | Broadband Routers Can Help You Set Up Private Cloud Space and More Posted: 25 Dec 2020 03:03 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/broadband-routers-private-cloud-space/321096/, Broadband Routers Can Help You Set Up Private Cloud Space and More
Broadband connections require internet routers to spread wireless connectivity all over the house or office. Routers have come a long way and can do things which most of us wouldn't have imagined a few years ago. There are multiple types of routers available in the market, each serving a specific purpose. But most users don't realise how to use their router to its full potential. There are quite a few amazing things which your broadband router can do that you might not know. Please keep reading to find out what they are. Things Broadband Router Can Do Which You Might Not KnowBroadband routers can allow you to schedule access time for certain devices. This is a good feature for the parents who don't want their kids to be using Wi-Fi late at night. Parents or other users can go to the router configuration page and choose the MAC addresses of the devices they don't want accessing the internet during specific hours. With your router’s help, you can also create a local wireless network for sharing files within your home or office area. When your desktop is connected to your router’s wireless network, all the other devices connected to the same wireless network can share files amongst each other. Through the router configuration, parents or other users can also set up restrictions for certain devices to access specific websites. Users can select MAC addresses and set up website restrictions for them. Thus whenever these devices are connected to the router’s network, they will be blocked from accessing the restricted websites. You can also create guest networks with your router. Most of the routers today facilitate the user with the option for making a guest network. Because when guests use the same password and network through which your devices are connected, it makes your data and devices vulnerable. Also, you can create a private cloud space for storing data with your router. This is possible with the routers which have a USB port. You can connect an external hard-drive to the router through the USB port. Then, all your devices connected wirelessly to the router's network will be able to transfer files from your device to the hard-drive connected to the router. Lastly, with the help of your router, you can also print wirelessly. If there is a USB port, connect the printer with the router. After this, all the devices connected to the router’s network will be able to communicate with the printer. Of course, not all routers can do this stuff. But all of the latest and modern routers should be capable of the above-mentioned features. Original article: Broadband Routers Can Help You Set Up Private Cloud Space and More ©2020 TelecomTalk. | Qualcomm Leads 5G Chipset Market in Q3 2020, MediaTek Ahead Overall: Report Posted: 25 Dec 2020 12:25 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/qualcomm-leads-5g-chipset-market-2020-mediatek/321056/, Qualcomm Leads 5G Chipset Market in Q3 2020, MediaTek Ahead Overall: Report
MediaTek has left behind the chipset manufacturing giant Qualcomm in terms of overall market share in the Q3 2020. However, Qualcomm still has the edge over MediaTek when it comes to 5G chipset market share. MediaTek reported strong demand and performance of the chipsets in the $100 – $250 (approximately Rs 7,000 – Rs 18,000) price segment. The key markets for the company were India and China. With the help of these two key markets, the Taiwanese chipset maker surpassed Qualcomm in the Q3 of the year. Keep reading ahead to find out more about the story. MediaTek Chipsets Powered More Than 100 Million Smartphones Sold in the QuarterAs per a report shared by the Counterpoint Research, more than 100 million smartphones carrying MediaTek chipsets were sold during the Q3, 2020. It helped the Taiwanese chipset manufacturer increase its market share from 26% in the previous quarter to 31% in the third quarter. While on the other hand, Qualcomm saw an overall dip in the market share percentage during the third quarter. Qualcomm came down from 31% in the previous quarter to 29% in the third. Still, one segment where Qualcomm was ahead of any other chipset maker was 5G. When it came to the 5G chipset, Qualcomm had 39% of the market in the Q3, 2020, which was more than any other chipset manufacturer. Qualcomm released three 5G chipsets during the year namely Snapdragon 690, Snapdragon 750G, Snapdragon 865 series. Nonetheless, Qualcomm still has a good chance of overtaking MediaTek in the fourth quarter of the year. What's worth noting here is the growth of MediaTek in the smartphone industry. Xiaomi devices had three times more MediaTek chipsets than the same period last year. One thing that really worked well for MediaTek was its diverse range of chipsets suitable for different kind of devices. MediaTek manufactured and developed chipsets for entry-level, mid-range, and flagship devices. It also came out with its own 5G series chipsets. However, Qualcomm is expected to overtake MediaTek in the fourth quarter in terms of overall market share. At the same time, Qualcomm is expected to continue leading the 5G chipset space. Other chipset makers such as Apple, Samsung, and Huawei managed to get 12% of the market share each. There was practically no growth for Huawei during the quarter, but Apple gained 1% market share, whereas Samsung dropped down from 16% to 12% market share. Qualcomm has announced its latest 5G flagship chipset, Snapdragon 888 which is expected to power most flagship Android devices in the coming year. | Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea Segmented Offers Under Examination by Trai Posted: 24 Dec 2020 11:26 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bharti-airtel-and-vodafone-idea-segmented-offers-trai/321045/, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea Segmented Offers Under Examination by Trai
Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have finally submitted all the details of the segmented offers to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). Yesterday, we reported that the telcos have asked for extra time from the regulator to comply with its order. But apparently, both the telcos have submitted the segmented offer details which are now being examined by Trai. For the unaware, the regulator asked Airtel and Vi to submit all the details of the segmented offers they provided to the users in the January to November months of 2020 — more details on the story ahead. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea Submitted the Segmented Offer Details With the RegulatorTrai had given the telcos a span of 15 days, until December 20, 2020, to submit all the segmented offers’ details and comply with its order. The details needed to include the offer’s name, terms and conditions, tariff rates, benefits, and validity spans. The regulator had further directed the operators to submit the details of the offer in a monthly manner. This meant that all the offers made in January and all the other months had to be submitted separately. As per a report shared by ET Telecom, the telcos have complied with the order from Trai and submitted all the necessary details. Trai wasn't comfortable with telcos withholding the details of the segmented offers because it creates a lack of transparency, leading to discrimination between users. The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) had earlier sided with the telcos and allowed them to keep the details of their segmented offers with them. Telcos said that they are not comfortable sharing the offer details because if it gets into its competitors’ hands, it can potentially result in a huge loss for their operations. Trai had to shift the matter into the hands of the Supreme Court of India where the regulator won the case, and the operators were left with no choice but to comply with its order asking them to submit the details of their segmented offers. However, the apex court has asked the regulator to keep all the offer details it receives confidential, so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. The regulator seeks to determine if there was discrimination on the offers provided to the users in the same class or paying the same money for a tariff plan. Trai has no other purpose of collecting the offer details but maintaining transparency and ensuring that everyone is treated equally. | BSNL 4G: DoT Might Approach PM Office for Tender Finalisation Posted: 24 Dec 2020 09:58 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-4g-tender-finalisation-pmo/321025/, BSNL 4G: DoT Might Approach PM Office for Tender Finalisation
BSNL’s long-awaited 4G services may not launch anytime soon as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) might have to approach Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for finalising the 4G tender. Over the last few weeks, we are hearing news about the possible roadblock for finalising the BSNL 4G tender by the technical committee appointed by DoT. The committee is suggesting BSNL to use the local 4G gear for rolling out the services instead of global telecom gear vendors like Nokia or Ericsson. BSNL in the past had worked with Nokia and ZTE, but the participation of Chinese vendors in the Indian telecommunications industry going forward seems unlikely, so the telco might want to switch to either Nokia or Ericsson. BSNL 4G Tender Reaches Finalisation PhaseThe DoT-appointed technical committee headed by the principal scientific advisor, K VijayRaghavan earlier suggested that BSNL should use the locally made gear for deploying 4G network. It also stated the copyright for the source code of the software to be deployment should be owned by an Indian company. However, BSNL disagreed to these recommendations from the technical committee saying a 4G tender from a local vendor is around 90% costly than that of a global vendor. The telco also urged that having a separate core for 2G/3G & 4G services will hamper the quality of services and lead to higher costs. Since the recommendations are already put in place by the technical committee, the DoT is now looking to approach PMO seeking an ‘appropriate advice’ on how to proceed forward, according to Financial Express. The delay in finalising the 4G tender means the service rollout will be delayed as well. The DoT will now await for the reply back from the PMO because it cannot finalise the tender without advice from the government. The DoT is under pressure right now as the BSNL 4G tender finalisation is already running late. To recall, the first BSNL 4G tender draft was published back in March this year, but it was cancelled in July. If the DoT manages to draft the tender in the next couple of months, it might take another 4-6 months for the telco to procure all the requirements. That said, if DoT goes with the recommendations given by the technical committee, the telco might oppose the move and could likely go against the tender. The Union Cabinet approved the revival package for both BSNL and MTNL back at the end of 2019 as part of which the telco is planning to launch 4G services.
