Reliance Jio executives are planning to meet the government officials in Punjab to discuss the extensive damage created by farmers by cutting power supply to Jio-owned towers and how to control the damage in the coming days. A PTI report said that farmers have damaged more than 1,500 towers of Reliance Jio in Punjab as part of their protests against the three farm laws. Since Reliance Jio is owned by Mukesh Ambani and farmers believe the new farm laws benefit the billionaire, they are targeting the telco’s towers to disrupt the business. Farmers are removing the power supply to Jio’s towers due to which the telco’s business is being disrupted. Right after this report, ET Telecom reported that the Jio officials are looking to meet senior state government officials in Punjab to discuss the tower damage issue. Over 1,450 Jio Towers Damaged by Farmers in PunjabThe ET Telecom report says farmers have damaged over 1,450 ‘Jio-owned or operated telecom towers’ in Punjab. On Friday, Punjab’s chief minister Amarinder Singh asked farmers not to damage the towers and disrupt the already troubled economy. The PTI report added that 1,411 towers were damaged till Sunday end and the number must have gone up to 1,500. Furthermore, farmers are also burning the fibre cables of Reliance Jio. For the unaware, Reliance Jio has 9,000 towers in Punjab, and already 15% of towers are damaged so far. Reliance Jio has around 14 million customers in Punjab. Farmers are cutting the power supply to Jio’s towers which is probably the easiest way to stop a tower from functioning. Due to this, Jio users in Punjab are complaining about the network issues on Twitter. Simultaneously, some angry users are tweeting ‘BoycottJio’ and this hashtag has already amassed 17,000 tweets on Monday. It is also said that the generator used as a power supply to one of Jio’s tower in Punjab was taken away by farmers and they donated it to a local gurudwara. Meanwhile, Reliance Jio officials are looking to engage talks with Punjab government officials to discuss how to control the damage. The Punjab government already requested farmers to protest in peace and asked them not to trouble the general public. If this continues, Reliance Jio will lose the ground in Punjab. The telco already wrote to Trai saying incumbents Airtel and Vi are running anti-competitive MNP campaign to cash on the ongoing farmers protest in Punjab. On the whole, Punjab has 40 million telecom subscribers as per the latest data released by Trai. |

| Vodafone Idea Rs 699 Plan Offering Double Data, Is it Worth it? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:25 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/vodafone-idea-rs-699-plan-offering-double-data/321646/, Vodafone Idea Rs 699 Plan Offering Double Data, Is it Worth it?
Vodafone Idea (Vi) started offering users double data offer with its prepaid plans a while back. Since then the telco has extended the offer to multiple prepaid plans and also removed it from some. At present, VI users can get this offer on three plans: Rs 299, Rs 449, and Rs 699. Today, we will be focusing on the Rs 699 plan specifically, and we are going to analyse if it is really worth it. It is worth noting that no plan from any of the other telecom operators comes with the double data offer. Keep reading ahead to find out if this plan is worth it. Vodafone Idea Rs 699 Plan OfferingsThe Rs 699 plan from Vodafone Idea offers users 4GB daily data (2GB without double data offer) in addition to unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day. It carries a validity of 84 days. There is an over the top (OTT) benefit of Vi Movies and TV included. This plan also gets the 'Weekend Data Rollover' offer. For the unaware, the weekend data rollover offer allows users to carry forward all the unused fair usage policy (FUP) data from the week to the weekend. Let's take a look at the economics of this plan. It offers 4GB daily data for 84 days to the user. So the users get a total of 336GB data for the complete validity of this plan. This further means that each gigabyte of the data costs Rs 2.18 to the users. This isn't an expensive amount. This is because most of the prepaid plans from other telecom operators offer each gigabyte of data for 84 days at a much higher price point. For example, the Rs 599 plan from Jio, which offers 2GB daily data for 84 days means that each gigabyte of data with this plan will cost users Rs 3.74. Looking at the example, it is obvious that the Vi Rs 699 plan is a killer deal for most prepaid users. It is just Rs 100 more than the Rs 599 plan from Jio and offers double data at a lower price. Not only this, there is no worrying about FUP calling minutes like Jio. Users can call to any network within India at no additional cost. However, not everyone requires this much of data daily, but this plan is worth considering if you pay around Rs 600 – Rs 700 for your prepaid plan with a validity of 84 days. |

| Local Cable Operators Continue to Add More Broadband Users Across India Posted: 28 Dec 2020 01:50 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/cable-operators-continue-add-more-broadband-users/321632/, Local Cable Operators Continue to Add More Broadband Users Across India
LCOs Play Significant Role in Wired Broadband SpaceICICI Securities said that the net additions by the wired broadband service providers in October translated to an 1.8% Month-over-Month (MoM) and 12.7% Year-over-Year (YoY) growth. The company said that Reliance Jio's market share in the wired broadband space "improved" to 7.9% as of October. Similarly, ICICI Securities said that the net additions by Airtel in the wired broadband space was "stable" with the operator's market share improving "marginally" to 12.4% as of October. "Others (local service providers) continued to lead net add at 0.19mn [190,000] in Oct'20," ICICI Securities said in the report. Wired Broadband Segment Now Providing Opportunity for Small and Big PlayersMotilal Oswal in its report on Thursday said that the "growth in wired broadband subscribers remains steady" with the total subscriber count hitting 21.5 million as on October 31, 2020. The firm engaged in financial services earlier in November said in a report that the home broadband home broadband segment in India was a "dull market for a decade." However, Motilal Oswal also highlighted that the segment is now providing an opportunity for both small and the big players. The firm said that the "regional players" between March, 2020 to August, 2020 "accounted for 84% of the overall wireline subscriber growth of 7%." "Nevertheless, the market for even regional players remains buoyant, especially in the recent lockdown, as our channel check suggests there is increased demand for low ARPU conventional home broadband connectivity," Motilal Oswal said in its November report. It has to be noted that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) continues to be the largest operator in the wired broadband segment with 7.75 million users, translating to a 36% market share. Further, Airtel, Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT), Reliance Jio and Hathway Cable and Datacom continue to remain the top five largest wired broadband service providers in India. |
| Vodafone Idea Rs 1,499 Plan Offering 50GB Additional Data Posted: 28 Dec 2020 12:37 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/vodafone-idea-rs-1499-plan-50gb-data/321603/, Vodafone Idea Rs 1,499 Plan Offering 50GB Additional Data
Vodafone Idea (Vi) is offering extra data to its users with the Rs 1,499 prepaid plan. The telco is providing users with 50GB of additional data on top of the existing data the plan provides. However, it might be possible that this benefit is limited or restricted to specific Vi users. This is because, on verification of the offer, multiple users couldn't spot it, but a TelecomTalk member could see it within the Vi mobile app. To know more about the offer and the plan, keep reading ahead. Vodafone Idea Offering 50GB Bonus Data to UsersVodafone Idea offers the Rs 1,499 plan with the benefit of unlimited calling and 24GB of data. This plan also offers unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day to the users. It carries a validity of 365 days. The Rs 1,499 prepaid plan from Vi is suitable for users who want less to do with data and primarily use their smartphones for voice calling purposes. But now, the telecom operator is also offering 50GB bonus data with the plan. However, there is no confirmation about how long this offer will stay. It might be that Vi is offering 50GB additional data to the users as a new year offer. Again, the telco hasn't confirmed the same so it is speculation. What's not speculation is the 50GB bonus data. One of the TelecomTalk members living in the Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh circle could spot the additional 50GB data offered with the plan. Thus, with the bonus 50GB data offered with this plan, the total tally of data reaches 74GB.
So now, instead of getting 24GB for a year, users will get 74GB data where all the other benefits of the plan will remain the same. This is a good offer for users looking to recharge with the plan right now. Also, it is worth considering that Vodafone Idea might soon increase the tariffs of its prepaid offerings. Thus, it would be a good time for the users to recharge with this year-long plan right now with the bonus data before the tariffs increase. Like mentioned above, this plan would be ideal for all the users who are looking to go for a prepaid plan which predominantly offers voice calling benefits and less of data benefits. So the Rs 1,499 prepaid plan from the telco will be offering 74GB of data, unlimited voice calling, and 100 SMS/day for 365 days (1-year). |

| Lava to Launch New Smartphones in India on January 7 Posted: 27 Dec 2020 09:49 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/laval-new-smartphones-india-january/321582/, Lava to Launch New Smartphones in India on January 7
Lava officially confirmed that it is launching new smartphones in India on January 7. A few days ago, Lava launching a smartphone called BeU at Rs 6,888 in the country. While announcing the Lava BeU, the company said it would be bringing more devices to the country in the first week of January 2021. Confirming the January 7 launch event, Lava tweeted ‘The day when Smartphone industry will never be the same again.’ As the anti-China sentiment in India continues to grow, more local brands are making a comeback. First, we saw Micromax launching the In Note 1 and In 1b budget phones, and now, Lava seems to be stepping up the game. The Lava BeU is an entry-level device with a Unisoc processor and Android Go edition on board. But the upcoming Lava phones will likely target the mid-range segment and budget segments. Lava to Make a Comeback in Early January: What You Need to KnowWith the Lava BeU smartphone, the company made its intentions clear for the entry-level market. While the phone had a relatively new Unisoc SC9863A octa-core processor, the rest of the specifications are very decent. The Lava BeU sports a 6.08-inch HD+ display, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, dual rear cameras and a 4060mAh battery. More importantly, the phone runs on Android 10 (Go Edition), meaning the unknown processor could be more than enough to handle day-to-day tasks. On January 7, Lava says it will step up the game and is making some huge claims on microblogging site Twitter. It is unknown right now what the company has in store for us, but most likely, we will see the brand targeting Xiaomi, Realme, Micromax and Samsung brands in the under Rs 15,000 category. For the unaware, the sub-Rs 15,000 category is the hottest in India for several years, and it continues to remain the same. Xiaomi and Realme have launched various phones with MediaTek chipsets this year, whereas Samsung has used its Exynos 9611 processor. The new entrant Micromax also used MediaTek Helio G range of chips on the In Note 1 and In 1b devices. The Micromax phones have got good reviews from the consumers. If Lava also goes with MediaTek processors, it will be able to price the devices aggressively. If the company chooses Snapdragon processors, we could see the phones on the stepper side. That being said, nothing is confirmed for now and we are waiting for the company to reveal more details. |
| OnePlus 9 Rumoured to Offer 30W Wireless Charging and 4500mAh Battery Posted: 27 Dec 2020 08:02 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/oneplus-9-wireless-charging-rumoured/321561/, OnePlus 9 Rumoured to Offer 30W Wireless Charging and 4500mAh Battery
We are just three months away from the rumoured March launch date for the OnePlus 9 series. Slowly, more details regarding the devices are coming out unofficially. Last week, we saw a major leak regarding the OnePlus 9 Lite. Alongside that leak, a major OnePlus 9 leak was also popped up online, courtesy of 91mobiles. The report says OnePlus is adding wireless charging support to the vanilla OnePlus 9 as well. The first OnePlus smartphone to feature wireless charging was the OnePlus 8 Pro. While the company decided not to include the wireless charging feature on the recently launched OnePlus 8T, it is including the same on its two upcoming two phones- the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro, at least that’s what this new report is suggesting. Besides, the OnePlus 9 is also rumoured to offer a 4500mAh battery. OnePlus 9: 30W Wireless Charging and 65W Wired Charging91mobiles, citing a trusted source, reported that the upcoming OnePlus 9 would have 30W wireless charging support. This is the same technology used by OnePlus on the 8 Pro, and the company even has a 30W wireless charger at Rs 3,990 in India. Earlier, it was expected that only the OnePlus 9 Pro would have wireless charging support. The smartphone also said to have reverse wireless charging, unlike the OnePlus 8 Pro which lacked this feature. So the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro will have wireless charging and reverse wireless charging features. As for other details, the OnePlus 9 will have a punch-hole display and flat-screen, similar to the OnePlus 8 and 8T smartphones. The report further highlights the company is adding a slightly bigger 4500mAh battery on the OnePlus 9 compared to the 4300mAh unit we saw on the OnePlus 8. Lastly, the standard OnePlus 9 is also expected to have 65W fast charging support. The OnePlus 9 Pro will likely feature a bigger battery, but it will keep the charging speeds at 65W itself. The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro smartphones seem to have many similarities with the Pro model having a Quad HD+ display and better camera setup. The display refresh rate, processor, RAM options and charging technologies will likely be similar on both the models. The cheaper OnePlus 9 Lite will be the company’s affordable flagship smartphone for 2021 with Snapdragon 865 SoC. The rumoured launch date of OnePlus 9 series is March 2021, but the Chinese company is yet to confirm this news. The OnePlus Watch may also arrive with the trio of phones. Right after the OnePlus 9 series, the Chinese company will have the OnePlus Nord SE launch, an earlier report hinted. |
| JioFiber Offers Parallel Calls on Mobile Feature: What Exactly Is It? Reliance JioFiber is growing at a rapid pace. According to Trai, JioFiber added 1.8 lakh new customers in October 2020 and we are expecting it to grow. While the subscriber growth is not expected as Reliance Jio wants it to be, there’s no denying that JioFiber is one of the best fibre-based broadband operators in India. In line with Airtel Xstream Fiber and BSNL Bharat Fiber, JioFiber also bundles free landline service with broadband plans. Yes, you heard it right; JioFiber users can make or receive free voice calls to any network within India at no extra cost. The Internet Service Provider (ISP) calls this service as ‘JioFixedVoice,’ and it can be configured on both smartphones and a landline telephone. JioFiber is providing a feature called ‘Parallel Calls on Mobile’ at no extra cost. Continue reading to know what exactly is this feature from JioFiber. JioFiber Parallel Calls on Mobile Feature ExplainedThe latest feature from JioFiber allows users to get notified on their smartphone whenever they get a landline call. JioFiber says the users will never miss a landline call with Parallel Calls on the mobile feature. It allows the users to bind their Jio mobile number and the JioFiberVoice number so that whenever an incoming call arrives on the landline, the user’s Jio mobile number will also ring. To enable this feature, existing JioFiber users can log into their account on the website or MyJio mobile app. After logging in, they will have to head over to the ‘Parallel calls on mobile’ section where they will be presented with the screen to register their Jio mobile number. Users will have to verify their Jio mobile number in the next step, after which the Jio mobile number and JioFiberVoice number will be bound. After that, whenever a landline call arrives on the user’s JioFixedVoice number on the landline, the customer’s Jio mobile number will also ring. The only condition to use this feature is the Jio mobile number and JioFiberVoice number should belong to the same circle. For those unaware, the JioFiberVoice number will be provided to the users after the successful activation of fixed-line voice calling services. We already know what JioFiber allows users to make voice calls with the JioFiberVoice number using the JioCall app on smartphones. After activating the JioFiberVoice number, users will have to download the JioCall app from the Google Play Store or App Store for logging in and making voice calls. JioFiber allows users to set up their fixed-line number on six smartphones. |
