We all know that Reliance Jio and Google are planning to launch a cheap Android phone in India at some point. Earlier, it was tipped the phones could arrive in December itself as both the companies were waiting for CCI (Competitive Commission of India) approval. The Jio-Google deal was approved by CCI recently, however, a new report from 91mobiles report now claims the low-cost 4G Android phone from Jio aren’t coming out this year. Earlier in September, the same publication stated the phone is slated for December launch. The new report adds the phone is currently in ‘testing phase’ and it might take another three months for the companies to launch to the general public. Jio-Google 4G Android Phone Coming Out in Q1 2021The report further highlighted the Jio-Google Android phone will likely arrive in Q1 2021, however, there’s no specific timeline provided this time around. Another report in the past stated Jio is looking to manufacture 200 million Android phones over the next two years. That said, to achieve this goal, Jio has to price the phone aggressively. Jio stirred the entire market in 2017 when it brought the Rs 1,500 JioPhone and offered it to the customers at zero cost. The rumoured price for the upcoming Jio-Google Android phone is Rs 4,000. We don’t have many phones under Rs 5,000 with full-fledged Android support. Xiaomi launched the Redmi Go with Android Go Edition in 2019, but that didn’t reach the company’s expectations in terms of sales. Within just three years, Reliance Jio was able to sell more than 70 million JioPhones in the country, and that also helped the telco amass more than 400 million customers. If the company gets the pricing right with the low-cost 4G Android phone, its goal of reaching 500 million subscriber mark will be achieved in no time. | Indians Comfortable With Paying Rs 400 Per Month for OTT Subscriptions Posted: 04 Dec 2020 12:30 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/indians-comfortable-paying-rs-400-subscriptions-ott/314832/, Indians Comfortable With Paying Rs 400 Per Month for OTT Subscriptions
Over the last few months, demand for over-the-top (OTT) content platforms in India has grown multiple-folds given the country was put in a lockdown for more than two months. People are staying inside their homes more now. For most of the Indians, their only source of entertainment is streaming videos online. It is interesting to see big production houses partnering with the major OTT platforms to release their new movies and series through them. Now, as per a stat shared by the US-based software company, Brightcove, Indians are happy paying Rs 400 per month for purchasing OTT subscriptions — more on the report ahead. More Number of OTT Platforms the Reason Behind the StatOne of the key things to take away from the report shared by Brightcove is that Indian consumers are exposed to a considerably large number of OTT platforms when compared with what the users in Bangladesh or Pakistan get exposed to. There are around 40 active OTT platforms in the country, and it means that Indians have the luxury of testing multiple platforms to get a sense of which platform is good and which isn't. This further increases the chances of people willing to pay for two or three high-quality platforms rather than going for multiple low-quality ones. But this won't be the case when countries like Bangladesh or Pakistan are concerned as the consumers won't be ready to pay higher amounts for OTT services until they have tried better or worse ones. Also, as mentioned in the report, 60% of the respondents who participated in the survey found new OTT platforms and its content through social media. Another thing highlighted in the report was the use of ads by the OTT platforms. Around 33% of respondents said that watching ads are acceptable when they are paying very less fee or no fee at all. Whereas, only 24% of people said that they are willing to pay more in return from being exempted from watching ads. Adding to this, 64% of the respondents expressed that they would prefer a monthly subscription over the yearly one. Also, around 55% of the respondents had subscribed to more than one premium OTT platforms. Original article: Indians Comfortable With Paying Rs 400 Per Month for OTT Subscriptions ©2020 TelecomTalk. | Redmi 9 Power Tipped to Launch Mid December in India, All to Know Posted: 03 Dec 2020 11:04 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/redmi-9-power-india-launch/314828/, Redmi 9 Power Tipped to Launch Mid December in India, All to Know
Xiaomi might launch the Redmi 9 Power in India on December 15. The claim is made by a popular tipster Mukul Sharma. The Redmi 9 Power is assumed to be a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 9 4G which was released for the China market recently. The device was also spotted on the Google Play Console and was tagged the model number M2010J19SI. The Redmi 9 Power could be launched for the Indian market in two different variants with 4G RAM variant being the standard one — More on the story ahead. Redmi 9 Power Expected SpecificationsAs per rumours online, the Redmi 9 Power is expected to be rebadged version of the Redmi Note 9 4G unveiled in China recently. Thus the device might come with a 6.67-inch full HD+ display. It is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM. In the camera department, the device is expected to sport a 48MP primary sensor and have two more sensors as well. There might be an 8MP sensor at the front for video calling and selfies. Adding to that, there might be a 6,000mAh battery with support of 18W fast charging for the device. Xiaomi hasn't made any official comments yet on the launch of the device or released teasers that may hint about it coming to India. However, Xiaomi has teased about its new Smart TV for the Indian market called 'QLED Mi TV'. So it might happen that the launch of both the Redmi 9 Power and the new Smart TV can come at the same time. The assumption behind Redmi 9 Power being a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 9 4G comes because of a solid reason. The new Redmi smartphone which has surfaced online carries the model number M2010J19SI. What's interesting to note here is that this model number has been associated with the Redmi Note 9 4G launched in China earlier. The Redmi Note 9 4G launched in China came in three different variants with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. | BSNL to DoT: Forcing to Buy Unproven 4G Gear from Local Vendors Will Delay in Network Rollout Posted: 03 Dec 2020 09:27 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-dot-unproven-gear-rollout-delay/314815/, BSNL to DoT: Forcing to Buy Unproven 4G Gear from Local Vendors Will Delay in Network Rollout
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited or BSNL has once again informed the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) that the procurement of local gear for deploying 4G services would create a lot of issues. As per the latest report by ET Telecom, BSNL has told the DoT that forcing it to purchase 4G telecom gear from local vendors will cause delays in rolling out the next-generation services to customers. BSNL also added that the gear from local vendors would be ‘globally unproven’ and that could cause a delay of at least 18 months for rolling out the services. Besides, BSNL also highlighted to DoT that the regionally procured infrastructure would result in increased costs and could result in frequent network quality issues. BSNL Now Says the Local 4G Gear Will Reduce its Survival ChancesThe state-run telco reached out to DoT several times in recent months regarding the purchase of locally made gear. As part of the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat programme, a technology group earlier suggested BSNL to fully make use of the gear made by local vendors. However, BSNL complained to DoT saying the local OEMs are charging close to 90% more for a single 4G tender compared to the tenders from global vendors. In a recent meeting held between the DoT and BSNL’s leadership members, they urged the telecom department to have a level-playing field in the industry. The leadership team of BSNL told DoT that the usage of local gear policy must also apply to the top three telcos- Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. As noted, BSNL is urging the DoT to reverse the local gear usage policy so that it can sustain the competitive Indian telecom market led by the likes of Jio and Airtel. "BSNL has voiced its concerns to its owner, DoT, that it must not be forced alone to buy unproven core 4G network gear from local suppliers, and that such indigenous procurement rules should also be applicable to all private telcos," a top company executive told ET. The report also says the telco’s concerns will be discussed shortly by the Empowered Technology Group (ETG) that was appointed less than a month ago. | BSNL Bharat Fiber Now Has Over 1 Million Subscribers Posted: 03 Dec 2020 06:08 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-bharat-fiber-one-million-users/314799/, BSNL Bharat Fiber Now Has Over 1 Million Subscribers
Government-owned BSNL announced that its Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) service- Bharat Fiber now has over one million subscribers across the country. BSNL introduced Bharat Fiber service a couple of years ago and the Internet Service Provider (ISP) is currently offering a wide range of plans under the service. BSNL has been the leader in the wired broadband segment for several years and it currently has over 38% market share in the segment, according to Trai data released yesterday. BSNL’s broadband speeds were often limited to the lower end of the spectrum, but that has changed in recent times as the ISP even started providing 300 Mbps speeds in select cities. BSNL Bharat Fiber: What Exactly Is It?Similar to JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber, BSNL also named its FTTH wired broadband service as Bharat Fiber. Under this brand, BSNL offers competitive broadband plans. For example, BSNL has been offering an Rs 849 broadband plan with 50 Mbps speeds and 600GB FUP limit under Bharat Fiber service. At the same time, it also has basic broadband plans with less than 50 Mbps speeds and not-to-so impressive FUP limits. The telco is generating decent reception from the customers for Bharat Fiber service. Overall, BSNL has 7.80 million broadband customers at the end of September 2020. A recent report said that BSNL added 88,779 new customers in October 2020, thanks to the launch of affordable Bharat Fiber plans like Rs 449, Rs 599, Rs 799, Rs 999 and Rs 1,499. These broadband plans are on-par with the benefits offered by private ISPs like JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber. The Bharat Fiber Basic plan of Rs 449 comes with 30 Mbps speeds and 3.3TB FUP limit every month, whereas the Rs 599 Fiber Basic Plus broadband plan offers 60 Mbps speeds and 3.3TB FUP limit. The best part is the plans are available across all the circles where BSNL is providing Bharat Fiber service. With the launch of these new plans, the company is also looking to add over one lakh new connections every month which seems likely. BSNL is also facing tough competition from JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber with plans starting at just Rs 399 and going up to Rs 3,999, and more. BSNL is yet to launch a 1 Gbps broadband plan and the ISP does not seem to launch the fastest broadband plan anytime soon.
