The Oppo Find X3 Lite is now rumoured to be just a rebranded version of the Oppo Reno 5 5G launched in China recently. Oppo launched the Reno 5 5G and the Reno 5 Pro 5G in its homeland last month, and it even confirmed the latter would launch in India on January 18. A flagship smartphone part of the Reno 5 5G series aka the Reno 5 Pro+ also launched in the Chinese market. Next up, Oppo is said to launch the flagship Find X3 series. Like last year, the Find X3 series will likely have three smartphones- the standard Oppo Find X3, a premium Find X3 Pro and the affordable Find X3 Lite. Popular leakster Evan Blass now claims the Oppo Reno 5 5G will be rebranded as the Find X3 Lite in global markets.

Oppo Find X3 Lite: What You Need to Know

The Reno 5 5G is a mid-range smartphone and it does not have the flagship Snapdragon 888 5G chipset. Since the company is planning to rebrand the Reno 5 5G as the Find X3 Lite, there will be some branding changes. Blass says the Find X3 Lite will have an Oppo logo on the back instead of the Reno Glow logo. Having said that, the tipster reveals there will not be any major changes to the hardware.

Talking about the specifications of the Reno 5 5G, it rocks a 6.3-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1080×2400 pixels. There’s a punch-hole cutout that houses the 32MP selfie camera. Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The handset rocks an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Oppo has added a 4300mAh battery along with 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 charging support to the Reno 5 5G. Cameras on the smartphone include a 64MP primary shooter on the back that works in tandem with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro sensor.

The Find X3 Lite will likely launch in three colour options- Starry Black, Azure Blue and Galactic Silver. This could be the reason why Oppo is not launching the Reno 5 5G in India and going directly with the Reno 5 Pro 5G. The Find X3 series will likely debut in March right before the OnePlus 9 series. All the three phones part of the Find X3 series will likely launch in India, but nothing is confirmed for now.

poco-gets-ahead-of-oneplus-and-realme

Poco got separated from Xiaomi back in early 2020. Since then, the company has launched multiple rebadged smartphones of Xiaomi. The smartphone maker has become the third-largest online smartphone brand in India. As per a Counterpoint Research report, out of every three smartphones sold, two of them were from Poco. The two smartphones which saw the highest demand from Poco were Poco C3 and Poco M2. Thus Poco has left behind big smartphone brands such as Realme and OnePlus. Keep reading ahead to find out more about the story.

Poco to Continue Delivering Powerful Smartphones in Entry-Level Segment

The maximum sales for Poco were driven by Poco M2 and Poco C3. It is a big feat for the smartphone maker as it hasn't been long since it became an independent brand. As per a Counterpoint Research Smartphone Monthly Model Tracker 2020 November report, Poco emerged as the third-largest online smartphone brand in India.

The top two online-smartphone brands remain Xiaomi and Samsung. But the interesting thing was that Poco left behind big market players such as Realme and OnePlus. Anuj Sharma, Country Director, Poco India said that that Poco has become the third-largest online smartphone player in the market in a span of just 10 months. He further added that the company sold over a million smartphones in the first week of Big Billion Day sale on Flipkart.

Sharma said that the company will continue delivering the best proposition deals with smartphones in 2021 as well. He further said that Poco's brand philosophy of 'Everything you need and everything you don't' has delivered great results for the company.

Shilpi Jain noted that Poco is gaining momentum in the Indian smartphone market with smartphones such as Poco C3 and Poco M2 driving most of the growth. According to Jain, it is because of features such as 5,000mAh battery and powerful gaming processors at a low-cost, the company has been successful in enticing people to buy its smartphones.

It is worthy to note that in Q3 of 2020, Poco gained the fourth position in online smartphone shipments. But in November 2020, it came up to the 3rd position.

For the unaware, Poco recently reduced the prices of Poco M2 and Poco C3. The Poco M2 is available at a discounted price of Rs 9,999 for the 6GB+64GB variant and Rs 10,999 for the 6GB+128GB variant. The Poco C3 is available for a discounted price of Rs 8,499 for its 4GB+64GB variant.

dd-dish-smart-tv-restrict-cable-dth
Prabhudas Lilladher, a research based financial services organization in a report said that the pay TV services including cable TV and Direct-to-Home (DTH) will deliver "low single digits" growth in India. The firm in a report on Tuesday said that the "uptick in DD Free Dish" along with the "higher growth in connected TVs" will restrict the growth of pay TV homes across India. Prabhudas Lilladher highlighted that the pay TV homes, since 2012, have been on the rise across the country except for the services registering a dip in 2019.

DD Free Dish Registers Increase in Subscriber Base

In 2019, the firm said that the pay TV services registered lower growth as compared to the previous years due to multiple reasons including the English language viewers shifting to Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms. Prabhudas Lilladher said that the "strong content pie" on the OTT platforms enabled the English language viewers to make the shift from pay TV services. The firm also highlights that the DD Free Dish, the free DTH service from Prasar Bharati also registered an increase in its subscriber base in 2019, contributing to the restrictive growth of pay TV services.

Prabhudas Lilladher said that the DD Free Dish is now estimated to have a subscriber base of 35 million to 38 million with the platform now hosting 104 channels as of 2019.

"Post NTO 1.0, majority of the large broadcasters pulled out their FTA channels from Free Dish as TRAI mandated that FTA and pay channels cannot be part of the same bouquet," Prabhudas Lilladher said in its report.

The firm highlighted that the broadcasters converted their free-to-air (FTA) channels into pay channels in the price range of Rs 0 to Rs 1 and included them in the bouquets. Prabhudas Lilladher said that the move resulted in the "significant fall" in the reach of these channels with their "ad-revenues plummeted."

"In contrast, channels which remained on the Free Dish platform like Big Magic and Dangal saw significant rise in viewership and ad-revenues," Prabhudas Lilladher said in its report. "Thus, all major broadcasters like ZEEL, Sony, Star and TV18 have decided to make a comeback on Free Dish with their 2nd rung GEC's like Zee Anmol, Zee Anmol Cinema, Star Utsav, Colors Rishtey and Sony Pal."

Similarly, Prabhudas Lilladher said that the smart connected TVs are now present across 15 million to 20 million homes as of 2019, due to "rising affordability." The firm said that it estimates the smart connected TVs base to cross 40 million by 2025 in India.

Indian OTT Market "Overcrowded"

Prabhudas Lilladher said that the Indian OTT market is "overcrowded" with over 30 players competing in the segment. The firm said that the OTT market in the country is in "evolution stage" with "most broadcasters" said to be "investing aggressively in building their own platform." Prabhudas Lilladher said that the OTT segment is witnessing "gradual shift in content consumption habits" with key factors including "cheap data" and increase in mobile subscriber base aiding OTT consumption.

"Rising rural internet penetration is expected to lead to migration in viewing habits from linear TV to digital in the long term," Prabhudas Lilladher said in its report. "Hence, having an OTT platform with strong content is key to capitalize on this emerging trend."

The firm said that Zee5, the OTT platform run by Essel Group through its Zee Entertainment Enterprises is "strongly placed in competitive OTT market."

"ZEEL has been aggressively investing in ZEE5 and expects break-even by FY24E," Prabhudas Lilladher said in its report. "We believe ZEEL's strategy to transit to digital medium is a step in the right direction given migration in viewing patterns from linear TV to OTT."

Apple is expected to launch the second-generation AirPods Pro and new iPhone SE in April 2021. The new iPhone SE 2021 is expected to come with A14 Bionic chipset seen on the iPhone 12 series and is further expected to support 5G connectivity. However, just like the iPhone SE 2020 which had an under-clocked A13 chipset, this year's iPhone SE might also feature an under-clocked version of A14 SoC. The Cupertino tech giant is also expected to launch the new AirPods Pro in a different sized charging case — more details on the story ahead.

Apple New AirPods Pro and iPhone SE 2021

As per a report from MacOtakara (via MacRumours), Apple will launch the aforementioned products in April this year. The AirPods Pro will arrive with a different sized charging case with 21mm thickness, 54mm width, and 46mm height. It is worthy to note that the current AirPods Pro have a charging case which comes with 60.6mm width and 45.2mm height.

So notably, the charging case would get a little more height and would also become slimmer. There is no other information available about either of these devices at the moment. Since Apple hasn't confirmed anything yet, all the above information remain speculated in nature.

According to the rumours surfacing online, Apple might take out the stem from the second-generation AirPods Pro, making them look much more like the Samsung Galaxy Buds. Following this, the rumours about the upcoming iPhone SE suggest that the device will be launched in two different variants.

The 3rd generation iPhone SE is expected to have a 'plus' variant as well. Thus there might be two different sizes of the iPhone SE 2021: 5.5-inch and 16-inch. Again, these are just rumours, and nothing's confirmed yet.

Apple Might Launch New MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch Models With M1X Processor in Summer

Apple is expected to launch two new MacBook Pro models of 14-inch and 16-inch later this summer. The new laptops are expected to feature the in-house M1X silicon processor. As per a report from TechRadar, the new 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1X chipset might be thinner than the current 16-inch MacBook Pro solely because of the efficiency of the silicon processor.

The M1X processors are expected to be even more powerful than the M1 processors. If this is true, this would again be a revolution in the personal computers (PC) market. No confirmed dates have arrived for the launch of these laptops yet.

WhatsApp Private Chat Groups and User Profiles Coming Up on Google

whatsapp-private-chat-groups-profile-on-google

WhatsApp's reputation is just going down and further since the time it announced its new terms and conditions collecting users data. According to recent developments, WhatsApp private chat groups and user profiles are coming up on Google search. For the unaware, this is not the first time this is happening. First reported by Athul Jayaram back in 2020, the issue was fixed but is now cropping up again. Phone numbers of the users and their profile pictures are surfacing in Google's index, which brings up privacy concerns yet again with the use of WhatsApp — more details on the story ahead.

WhatsApp Fixed the Issue with 'noindex' Tag, But it is Cropping Up Again

WhatsApp had earlier fixed the issue. “Since March 2020, WhatsApp has included the “noindex” tag on all deep link pages which, according to Google, will exclude them from indexing. We have given our feedback to Google to not index these chats” a spokesperson from WhatsApp told IANS.

Either the 'noindex' tag isn’t the best way to solve the issue, or it is a new problem that indexes private chats and user profiles of WhatsApp on Google search again. Rajshekhar Rajaharia, a cybersecurity researcher, said that adding the 'noindex' tag is only making the links surface back on Google again after a few months.

He further said that WhatsApp needs to figure out a better way to solve this issue if it actually cares about the privacy of its users. There were approximately 1,500 WhatsApp group invite links surfacing on Google search recently.

A thing worth noting is that the new links which have surfaced on Google do include the 'noindex' tag. Thus it becomes evident that 'noindex' tag on these links is not working for WhatsApp. Rajaharia observed that WhatsApp didn't include the 'robots.txt' file on its 'chat.whatsapp.com’ subdomain, which has resulted in the links surfacing on Google. He said that developers use the 'robots.txt' file to communicate with the search engine crawlers about which files and pages to index and which to not.

It is not just the private chat groups, but also the user profile information which is indexed in Google. The URL reveals the pictures and phone numbers of the users. This is the last thing WhatsApp wanted at a time when it is battling privacy concerns. With the user profiles as well Rajaharia noticed that the 'robots.txt' file is missing which might be the reason for them being indexed on Google.

It will be interesting to see how WhatsApp responds to this issue. Let us know your thoughts on this issue.

Signal Beats WhatsApp to Secure Top Spot in Apple App Store

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/signal-top-spot-apple-app-store/324052/, Signal Beats WhatsApp to Secure Top Spot in Apple App Store

Signal, the instant messaging app, has secured the top spot in the Apple App Store. They say one man’s loss is another man’s gain, and there won’t be a better example than this. As everyone might be aware of by now, WhatsApp is asking all its users to accept the new privacy policy as part of which it will share data with parent company Facebook. A lot of WhatsApp users around the world are now migrating to either Signal or Telegram. Thanks to this, Signal rose to the top spot in less than 48 hours on Apple App Store’s Free Apps category. On Google Play Store, Signal is currently at fourth spot in the same ‘Top free apps’ category, and it will be a matter of time for the app to reach the top spot.

Signal Says There Will Be No Ads on its Platform

Signal is betting big on privacy and it is understandable. A few years ago, WhatsApp founders left Facebook after knowing the plans of how the social media giant is going to use WhatsApp. Signal is now headed by Brian Acton who is the co-founder of WhatsApp. Facebook also confirmed that it would start monetising WhatsApp in the future. Signal, took to Twitter and said there would never be ads on the platform. It further added that the “data belongs in your hands and not ours.”

Another messaging platform Telegram is also getting a lot of interest from WhatsApp users, but the majority of them are joining Signal because it is relatively new in the game. Signal is now the most download free app in various countries like India, Germany, France, Austria, Finland, Switzerland and Hong Kong.

Signal got a major boost when Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk asked its followers to download Signal on Twitter. Not only in the downloads section, but Signal’ share price also rose by a whopping 1100%. Signal is another instant messaging application like WhatsApp and Telegram, but the core focus of the company is user privacy. It is a free mobile application available on iOS and Android platforms with features like voice calling, video calling, stickers support and the person-to-person chat interface of Signal is very identical to that of Apple’s iMessage.

Did you download Signal on your smartphone? If yes, let us know how is your experience with the app so far.

BSNL is currently offering a Rs 599 recharge to its prepaid subscribers across the country. The Rs 599 plan of BSNL offers 84 days of validity, similar to the prepaid plans under Rs 600 from Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea. However, the BSNL plan stands apart from the competition in the data benefit section. The telecom operator which is yet to launch 4G services is providing a whopping 5GB data per day with the Rs 599 recharge. The data benefit offered by BSNL can be consumed on 2G/3G networks, but if the customer enters a 4G-enabled area, the data benefit can be consumed on 4G network as well. For the unaware, BSNL already launched 4G services in select circles like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. However, the 4G network is limited to select areas on the above-mentioned circles. Continue reading to know more about the Rs 599 prepaid recharge from BSNL in detail and why we think it is the best plan at the moment.

BSNL Rs 599 Prepaid Recharge: Benefits Detailed

The Rs 599 recharge from the government-led telco is an unlimited combo plan, meaning it comes with voice calling, SMS and data benefits. Starting with the USP of this plan, it offers a user 5GB data per day which takes the overall data benefit to 420GB as the plan’s validity is 84 days.

The plan also ships with unlimited voice calling to any network within India but BSNL’s official websites still report the FUP limit of 250 minutes per day is yet to go away. Last week, we reported that BSNL is getting rid of the FUP limit on voice calling on January 10, 2021, and we are yet to get an official confirmation from the house of BSNL. That said, BSNL confirmed that the PV 1,999 and PV 2,399 would offer unlimited voice calling without the 250 minutes per day, so the change might be effective for other plans as well.

As for the third benefit, the Rs 599 BSNL recharge offers 100 SMSes per day for the entire validity period. Lastly, BSNL also provides a free subscription to Zing app till February 28, 2021.

As you can see, the data benefit offered by BSNL with its Rs 599 recharge is miles ahead of private telcos that are offering either 1.5GB data per day or 2GB data per day with the plans below Rs 600. That said, the lack of nationwide 4G services is hurting BSNL badly, but if you have a decent 3G BSNL network in your area, you should check out the Rs 599 recharge.
