Samsung has unveiled its latest chipset for flagship Galaxy smartphones – Exynos 2100. It will be competing against the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 SoC. The Exynos 2100 SoC is the first 5G chipset from Samsung to be built on 5nm extreme ultraviolet (EUV) process node and is claimed to reduce the power consumption of the device by up to 20% and enhance performance by up to 10% when compared with the Exynos 990. Both the Exynos 2100 SoC and Snapdragon 888 SoC are based on a tri-cluster structure. Read ahead to find out more about the chipset.

Samsung Exynos 2100 SoC Features

The Exynos 2100 is an octa-core chipset which offers four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores, three high-performing Cortex-A78 cores, and one Cortex-X1 core clocked at 2.9 GHz. This new combination of cores is claimed to deliver a 30% better performance than the last year's Exynos 990 SoC. The Exynos 2100 SoC also has ARM Mali-G78 GPU which Samsung says is 40% better in graphic performance than the Exynos 990.

For boosting Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) processing, Samsung has also included a new tri-core NPU in the chipset. The Exynos 2100 SoC also houses a multi-IP governor (AMIGO) technology which is said to provide a longer use time of the smartphone to the user.

Another thing common between the Exynos 2100 SoC and Snapdragon 888 SoC is that both of them can perform 26 trillion operations per second (TOPS). The chipset houses an all-new image signal processor (ISP) which can support sensors with up to 200 megapixels. The Exynos 2100 SoC can pair with up to 6 individual camera sensors. It also comes with a content-aware feature that helps the camera in intelligently recognising the subject and adjust camera settings for a better image.

There is a 5G modem on the Exynos 2100 SoC which can support both mmWave and sub-6 GHz spectrums. The chipset can support a maximum download speed of 5.1 Gbps on the sub-6 GHz network and 7.35 Gbps on the mmWave network.

Telegram Gains 25 Million New Users in Past 72 Hours Globally

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/telegram-25-million-new-user-addition/324573/, Telegram Gains 25 Million New Users in Past 72 Hours Globally

Telegram has now announced that it gained 25 million new users globally joined its platform in the past 72 hours. In the first week of January, Telegram announced that it surpassed 500 million monthly active user mark globally and it has continued to grow with 25 million new users joining the platform in the last 72 hours alone. Telegram also announced that 38% out of the newly added 25 million users are from Asia, followed by Europe with 27%. Telegram managed to add 21% new users from Latin America and 8% from the MENA region. Signal saw a meteoric rise after WhatsApp started showing its new privacy policy to the users, whereas Telegram is also gaining a decent number of new subscribers across the world.

Telegram CEO Lauds Users Joining the Platform

Telegram CEO and Founder Pavel Durov appreciated the users who are joining the platform. Recently, he mentioned that Telegram added 1.5 million new users every day in 2020, however, the current surge in downloads is different. “We’ve had surges of downloads before, throughout our 7-year history of protecting user privacy. But this time is different,” Durov said in a recent blog post.

We are in 2021 are people no longer want to exchange their privacy for free services. He said that the people no longer want to be held hostage by tech monopolies that seem to think they can get away with anything as long as their apps have a critical mass of users. WhatsApp recently said that it would share data with Facebook to improve the services. Yesterday, WhatsApp cleared the air in a detailed FAQ post saying that the private messages and call-related data will not be shared with its parent company.

Telegram now has half a billion active users and the growth of the company is going in the upward direction. Telegram is now the ‘largest refuge’ for those seeking a communication platform that’s committed to privacy and security. Telegram also promises that it will take the user trust very seriously and will not its users down in the future.

As of this writing, Telegram has been downloaded more than 500 million times on Google Play Store. Telegram also stands on the second position in overall downloads on Apple App Store for the social media category. While Signal managed to become the topmost downloaded free application on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store, Telegram is slowly climbing the ladder.

JioFiber Led Netflix ISP Speed Index With 3.8 Mbps Average Speed in December 2020

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/jiofiber-netflix-isp-speed-index-december/324515/, JioFiber Led Netflix ISP Speed Index With 3.8 Mbps Average Speed in December 2020

Netflix finally updated its ISP Speed Index report after a lot of months. Reliance JioFiber continues to lead the chart with an average speed of 3.8 Mbps in December 2020. In fact, JioFiber stood at the top spot for six months in a row with an average speed of at least 3.6 Mbps. Next to JioFiber are other popular Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like 7 Star Digital, Airtel Xstream Fiber, ACT Fibernet and Tata Sky Broadband. Going by the data available, JioFiber achieved 3.8 Mbps speeds in both November and December 2020. State-run BSNL and MTNL are last on the list with an average speed of 3 Mbps and 2.4 Mbps, respectively. Overall, the streaming speeds in India seem to have improved as several broadband operators are now providing fibre-based services and that too with at least 100 Mbps speeds. Continue reading to know more about the Netflix ISP Speed Index report released for the last month of 2020.

JioFiber Beats Airtel Xstream Fiber and Tata Sky Broadband in Netflix ISP Speed Index

Out of top five ISPs, three of them- JioFiber, ACT Fibernet and Tata Sky Broadband offer fibre broadband service, whereas 7 Star Digital and Airtel Xstream Fiber has both fibre and DSL services on offer. In December 2020, JioFiber achieved an average speed of 3.8 Mbps, followed by four ISPs with 3.6 Mbps average speed- 7 Star Digital, Airtel Xstream Fiber, ACT Fibernet and Tata Sky Broadband.

Several ISPs achieved 3.4 Mbps average speed in the month, and the list includes Alliance Broadband, D-VoiS, Excitel Broadband, GTPL, Hathway, One Broadband, Spectra, Syscon Infoway and You Broadband. Tikona, BSNL and MTNL are last on the list with an average speed of 3.2 Mbps, 3 Mbps and 2.4 Mbps. This is the first time BSNL saw its average speed rising to 3 Mbps from the mediocre 2 Mbps speeds. It is sad to see the leading broadband operator standing last on the list when it comes offering the best service.

How Netflix Calculates the Speed Index?

Whenever a Netflix user chooses to play a title, that streamed session has a known maximum achievable bitrate. That maximum bitrate is set by the combination of the resolution request (SD/HD/4K), streaming device and the encode recipe. The better a network is, the closer a session will be to reaching this maximum possible bitrate, says Netflix. To compare the network performance of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) streaming Netflix, the company does two things:

1. Netflix divides the prime time sessions into 0.5 Mbps buckets based on the maximum possible bitrate and then it calculates the time-weighted bitrate achieved for all sessions in each bucket. This allows Netflix to measure how close the combined sessions were to achieving the maximum bitrate level. For example, with max bitrates from 0.5-1 Mbps, an ISP may achieve 0.9 Mbps (time-weighted) and for 5-5.5 Mbps, the ISP may achieve 5.2 Mbps.

2. Next, it calculates the global hours distribution of these 0.5 Mbps buckets and normalises every ISP to this same distribution. For example, if globally Netflix see that 10% of hours occur with maximum possible bitrates between 0.5-1Mbps, then the ISP’s 0.9Mbps (from the scenario above) gets a 10% weighting. Every bucket is similarly normalised to produce the Speed Index metric.

Netflix also says the Prime Time is defined as the top three hours of Netflix viewing each day for each ISP. So one day it might be 7 PM, 8 PM and 9 PM for the ISP, and another day it might be 6 PM, 9 PM and 10 PM for that same ISP. The ISPs that consistently have more than 1% of Netflix view hours in a country will be included in Netflix ISP Speed Index report.
