Bharti Airtel has silently introduced two data packs priced at Rs 78 and Rs 248. Similar to the Prime Video Mobile Edition data plans launched recently, the two new plans come bundled with Wynk Premium subscription. Airtel launched these two plans as data-only plans without voice calling and SMS benefits. The Rs 78 pack offers 5GB of data, whereas the Rs 248 pack comes with 25GB of data. These plans will have to be recharged on top of any other active recharge. Airtel says the users with Active Bundle or Smart Packs are eligible for the Wynk Premium bundled data plans. The two newly launched plans are available across all the circles and they can be recharged via the company’s Airtel Thanks app or official website. Bharti Airtel Rs 78 Data Pack: Benefits DetailedThe Rs 78 Bharti Airtel Data Pack offers a user 5GB of data and the validity will be same as your existing pack. As mentioned above, the two plans- Rs 78 and Rs 248 are just data packs, and they are applicable to existing users on an active prepaid plan. The USP of this prepaid plan is Wynk Premium subscription. The validity of the Wynk Premium subscription is 30 days. Bharti Airtel Rs 248 Data Pack: Benefits DetailedWith the Bharti Airtel Rs 248 pack, the telco has increased the data benefit by five times to 25GB. The Wynk Premium benefit remains the same, albeit the validity increase to one year. The Rs 1,498 plan offers just 24GB of data, so you can add another 25GB of data by recharging the Rs 248 pack alongside availing the free Wynk Premium benefit. For the unaware, Wynk Premium or Wynk Music Premium is the music service from Bharti Airtel. Wynk Music is one of the free go-to music streaming application for both Airtel and non-Airtel users in India. All the Airtel prepaid and postpaid plans come bundled with free Wynk Music subscription with unlimited song download option. However, there’s a certain limitation with Wynk Music free service. This is where the Wynk Premium service comes into the picture. Wynk Premium offers free access to hellotunes with unlimited song change option, free Podcasts and Live Concerts. Existing Airtel customers earlier had the option to purchase Wynk Premium subscription at Rs 29 per month, whereas non-Airtel users had to shell out Rs 49 every month. Wynk Premium annual plan costs Rs 299. The Rs 78 and Rs 248 are live across all circles on Airtel’s mobile app and website. |

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) recently updated its fair usage policy (FUP) on unlimited calls and SMS for its prepaid users. Until a few days back, unlimited calling with a BSNL plan meant 250 minutes free calling in a day after which standard charges were applicable. But now that restriction has been removed by the telco, and users get truly unlimited voice calling with their prepaid plans. Adding to this, every prepaid plan from BSNL also offers 100 SMS/day now. With this move, BSNL is setting itself up to compete with the prepaid offerings of other telcos such as Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi). Today, we are listing all the best-prepaid plans from BSNL which come with unlimited voice calling and data benefits. BSNL Rs 118 PlanThe Rs 118 plan from BSNL comes with a very short validity of 26 days. This plan offers users unlimited voice calling along with 0.5GB daily FUP data. After consuming the FUP data, the speed for the user drops to 40 Kbps. Users also get 100 SMS/day with this prepaid offer from BSNL, but unfortunately, there are no over-the-top (OTT) benefits. However, there is an additional benefit of free personalised ringtone. BSNL Rs 187 PlanThe Rs 187 plan from BSNL carries a validity of 28 days which is just 2 days more than the validity of the Rs 118 plan. But this plan is more expensive because it offers more data. Users get 2GB daily FUP data along with unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day with this plan. After consuming FUP data, the speed for the users drops to 80 Kbps. There are no OTT benefits, but the users do get free personalised ringtone benefit with this plan as well. BSNL Rs 247 PlanThis is one of the most solid prepaid offerings from BSNL. The Rs 247 plan offers users 3GB daily FUP data along with unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day. After consuming the FUP data, speed for the user drops to 80 Kbps. This plan comes with a validity of 30 days and also ships with an OTT benefit of Eros Now Entertainment along with free BSNL Tunes. BSNL Rs 319 PlanThis plan is an exception to this list since it doesn't offer any data, SMS, or OTT benefits. The Rs 319 plan from BSNL comes with a validity of 75 days and offers unlimited voice calling benefit to the users both while in the home and national roaming. Users who want only voice calling facility can opt for this plan comfortably. |

| Understanding the Configuration of Spectrum Put for Auction in 2021 Posted: 20 Jan 2021 01:44 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/understanding-configuration-spectrum-auction2021-india/326534/, Understanding the Configuration of Spectrum Put for Auction in 2021
As we already know, the Indian government will hold the next round of spectrum auction from March 1, 2021, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has put airwaves in 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 2500 MHz bands in the auction. Today we will try to explain in layman’s terms about the spectrum configuration. Spectrum is not a physical instrument or technology; it is just an imaginary medium, which cannot be touched or felt, to facilitate communications services. Unless put to the imagination and presented in a resourceful manner, understanding spectrum lies between the thin lines of technology and business aspects. Spectrum terminology is something which needs a lot of visual perception and in this analysis, we tried to decode and present it in the simplest manner possible. What is Spectrum Configuration all About?Since Spectrum is an intangible resource, the International bodies identify it using standards by allocating specific numbers. India has a National Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP), which defines the allocations, assignments, to use the spectrum for different services and industries and for effective utilization of spectrum as per the set standards globally. We mentioned in our previous article about how spectrum is sold in blocks, whenever we refer to a block, it simply refers to the address and property of the spectrum that is sold. Among the many and vast numbers in the spectrum portfolio, the block which is being sold to a telco can only be referred or identified using this configuration. Understanding Paired Spectrum BlockThe spectrum which is auctioned is sold as 'Paired' – FDD and 'Unpaired – TDD. Let's understand what is paired spectrum taking a block of 700 MHz bands as an example. Band : 700MHz (Uplink – 703-748 MHz = 45MHz) (Downlink – 758-803 MHz = 45MHz) Paired: Uplink channel + downlink channel. ![]() So for example, if the telco 'A' wins one (first block of the spectrum) block (5MHz) of spectrum in the 700 MHz band, it will mean the telco is assigned 718-723 MHz (5 MHz) in uplink frequency paired with 773-778 MHz (5 MHz) in downlink frequency. Thus the telco would be able to use the 5 MHz for uplink and 5 MHz for downlink purposes, 10MHz in total. Hence it is called a paired spectrum due to this configuration where a block of spectrum in a lower frequency band and an associated block of spectrum in an upper-frequency band are used together. Here in the 700MHz FDD band, the spectrum is divided into uplink channel and downlink channel by dividing the frequency. In technical terms, Frequency Division duplexing is a technique where the transmitter/uplink and receiver/downlink operate at different carrier frequencies. Understanding Unpaired Spectrum BlockFor understanding what unpaired spectrum block is, we will be taking the 2300 MHz band for example. ![]() Let us take Andhra Pradesh Circle: only 20MHz (2 Blocks each of 10MHz) is available and hence put for auction as 20MHz is used for Defence and two telcos already hold 60MHz, 30MHz each. Total 100MHz = 20MHz [Auction 2021] + 20MHz [MOD] + 30MHz [TSP1] + 30MHz [TSP2] To understand this, let us say telco 'B' won one block of spectrum in 2300 band (10 MHz) in Andhra Pradesh circle. It would mean that the telco is assigned 2360-2370 MHz = 10 MHz unpaired spectrum. The telco can use this 10 MHz spectrum for both uplink and downlink purposes. Thus, a single frequency band is used for transmitting/uplink and receiving/downlink; a technique where the frequency is used by sharing and assigning alternate time slots for transmitting and receiving signals. Hence it is called unpaired spectrum and Time Division Duplexing (TDD). FDD Bands : 700MHz, 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz TDD Bands: 2300MHz, 2500MHz So, spectrum configuration gives us an idea about the frequency, band plan, block size and basically an address and specification to identify the characteristics of the spectrum block being auctioned from an imaginary spectrum pool. Spectrum Configuration put for Auction and Spectrum CAP:
You can find the details of above-used spectrum blocks and spectrum holdings and CAP details (Sub Ghz, TDD, FDD) on the India Spectrum Holding Timeline 2021 in the spectrum configuration tab and snapshot view tabs respectively. |

Bharti Airtel has just launched 'Airtel Safe Pay' to protect its users’ digital payments and transactions. The service has been launched under the telco's online banking arm, 'Airtel Payments Bank'. With the 'Airtel Safe Pay', users will be able to make net banking and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions through Airtel Payments Bank without any worry of losing their money to online frauds and thefts. Airtel says that this technology is better and more secure than the industry's two-factor authentication system — more details on the story ahead. Airtel Safe Pay Leverages Telco's Exclusive Strength of Network IntelligenceIn a release, the telco said that 'Airtel Safe Pay' leverages company's strength of network intelligence to provide an extra layer of payment validation which is more secure than the two-factor authentication system. This technology and security infrastructure is aimed to save Airtel's subscribers from phishing attempts, stolen passwords and credentials, and sometimes even phone cloning that users don't understand mostly. With the help of 'Airtel Safe Pay' users will be able to make payments to merchants across the country through Airtel Payments Bank in a safe and secure environment. Even sending money to friends and family will become safer with 'Airtel Safe Pay'. Users don't have to pay anything to the telco for leveraging its secure payments infrastructure to make online transactions. For understanding how 'Airtel Safe Pay' works, keep reading ahead. How Does Airtel Safe Pay Works?Airtel Safe Pay can be enabled by going to the Airtel Payments Bank. To do that, first, open the Airtel Thanks app on your smartphone, once done, tap on the Payments Bank option at the bottom of the screen. Then you will see the account you have added on top reflecting 'Safe Pay' status as deactivated. Click on that account, and you will get an option to enable 'Safe Pay', do that for both Net Banking and UPI payments. After that, whenever you make UPI or net banking payments, you will be alerted on a real-time basis for the transaction you are about to make. Once you approve the transaction, the money will be sent to the concerned party. Advantages of Airtel Safe PayThere are four primary advantages of Airtel Safe Pay. First is that it uses Airtel's Network Intelligence to make online transactions a safer experience for you. Second, you get real-time confirmation alerts for any transaction that is taking place through your account. Third, there is an additional layer of security (three-factor authentication) which no other wallet in the country offers at the moment. Lastly, there is no exposure to the primary account through which payments are processed. |
