During the quarterly performance report for Q3 FY21, Reliance Jio said it has ‘indigenously’ developed 5G Radio. This means the telco now has entire in-house end-to-end Jio 5G technology. Reliance Jio also integrated the 5G Radio with its 5G Core Network and managed to achieve throughputs of more than 1 Gbps on 5G smartphones. The Jio gNodeB base station is also being tested with Jio 5G Core, confirmed the company. The telco said the gNodeB Small Cell is currently under manufacturing for a large-scale field trial with test customers. Reliance Jio always touted its 5G service will be a testimony to the vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat. The in-house 5G Radio will allow Jio to have a cost-effective 5G rollout.

Everything You Should Know About Jio 5G Launch

Back in October 2020, Reliance Jio announced it achieved over 1 Gbps speeds on its 5GNR solution and Qualcomm 5G RAN Platforms. Back then, Jio said it is developing a new generation cloud-native 5G RAN technology which will be truly open and software-defined.

Now, we have more details regarding this development from Reliance Jio. The Mukesh Ambani-led telco has developed a 5G Radio and it also integrated the radio with its 5G Core Network. On 5G smartphones, the technology developed by Jio managed to achieve more than 1 Gbps throughputs.

The next step would be conducting public trials. As promised by Mukesh Ambani last year, Jio will launch 5G services in H2 2021. And it seems like Jio is on the right track of launching 5G services in India ahead of Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. Reliance Jio further added that it is in the process of manufacturing the gNodeB Small Cell for a large-scale field trial with test customers.

In addition to the gNodeB Small Cell manufacturing, Reliance Jio is also developing in-house Massive MIMO and indoor 5G Small Cell. The massive MIMO and indoor 5G Small Cell are under advanced stages of development.

The main aim of Reliance Jio with in-house 5G technologies development is to reduce the costs and also remain the testimony to the Indian government’s AtmaNirbhar Bharat vision. Telecom operators across the globe are rolling out 5G services with the help of third-party gear makers like Ericsson, Nokia and Qualcomm. But Jio is looking to deploy 5G using locally-developed technologies.

Reliance Jio ARPU Boosted to Rs 151; Subscriber Base Reaches 410.8 Million in Q3 FY21

Reliance Jio has released the quarterly performance report for Q3 FY21 (October 31, 2020-December 31, 2020). Key highlights of this quarter performance from Jio include an increase in ARPU to Rs 151, subscriber base boost to 410.8 million, total data traffic increase by 28.4% YoY and total voice traffic increase by 18% YoY. Despite the challenges put by COVID-19, Reliance Jio says it managed to add 25.1 million subscribers during the quarter. The net subscriber addition of 40 million during CY20 is the highest in the industry, said Jio in the quarterly performance report. Furthermore, Jio also highlighted it ‘indigenously’ developed 5G Radio integrated with Jio’s 5G Core Network and 5G Smartphones, and managed to achieve overall air throughputs over 1 Gbps. The Jio Platforms-Google deal was also finished in the same quarter.

Jio ARPU Crosses Rs 150 for the First Time

The Mukesh Ambani-owned telco is continuously increasing its ARPU with every passing quarter. At the end of Q2 FY21, Jio had an ARPU of Rs 145, but it has increased to Rs 151 at the end Q3 FY21. This is also led by robust customer addition of 25.1 million. Jio says the customer addition number is given after removing the inactive and MNP users. The telco also registered higher churn during the quarter at 1.63% due to the continued impact of COVID-19.

During Q3 FY21, the average data consumption per user on Reliance Jio network was 12.9GB and the average voice consumption per user was at 796 minutes per month. Jio also mentioned that its FTTH services witnessed increased uptake during the quarter on the back of affordable and unique offerings.

As for financial performance, Jio Platforms Limited has achieved a milestone this quarter with annualised operating revenue run-rate of USD 10 billion with strong revenue and EBITDA growth. The quarterly operating revenue of Jio Platforms increased by 5.4% QoQ to Rs 19,475 crore, with an EBITDA margin of 43.6%. Net profit of Reliance Jio Platforms increased by 15.5% QoQ to Rs 2,489 crore.

Reliance Jio Digital Platforms Quarterly Performance

As noted, Reliance Jio has indigenously developed 5G Radio integrated with Jio's 5G Core Network and 5G smartphones. The telco managed to achieve air throughputs of more than 1 Gbps.

JioMeet, the local video conferencing solution, now has over 15 million users as the platform is being used by large enterprises, healthcare industry, educational and government institutions.

Furthermore, Reliance Jio completed the Google transaction after receiving the required approvals from the government. Google is investing Rs 33,737 crore into Jio Platforms Limited for 7.73% stake. With this deal, the entire amount of Rs 1,52,056 crore has been received by Jio Platforms.

signal-will-get-these-features-from-whatsapp

Even though users have started shifting from WhatsApp to Signal, the latter doesn't have all the former’s functionalities to compete with it yet. However, Signal is working hard behind the scenes to roll out new features similar to that of WhatsApp as quickly as possible so that the users don't feel like they have shifted to an alien texting application. Features such as chat wallpaper, status update, animated stickers and more are slated to arrive on Signal very soon. As per a report from WABetaInfo, multiple WhatsApp like features have been found at the beta version of Signal. Read ahead to find out all about those features.

Signal New Features Which are Similar to that of WhatsApp

The first feature that has been found in the beta version of Signal is 'Chat Wallpaper'. WhatsApp users have the convenience of setting a chat wallpaper for any particular group or private chat. This feature is soon going to make it to Signal's stable version as well.

The second feature that's in the beta version of Signal is 'Status Update'. It is a basic feature but also one of the most popular features of WhatsApp. Almost every user feels like it is a handy feature to communicate with others about being active. This feature is also making its way to 'Signal' soon.

The third feature is 'Animated Stickers'. One of the best features of WhatsApp is 'Animated Stickers'. People can use them to communicate with others without the hassle of typing too much. They are also funny, which makes chatting with others interesting and exciting.

The next and the fourth feature is the support for group calls. Do note that Signal does have a group call feature already, but currently it supports up to 5 people at a time only. But very soon, that limit will be increased to eight, just like WhatsApp.

Lastly, Signal will soon get the support of 'Group Invite Link'. Using this link users will be able to share their group's invite link with other users so that they can join it by simply tapping on it, reducing a ton of hassle for the group admins.

While these features will make it to Signal soon, the app is still ages behind WhatsApp in terms of being feature-rich. Signal has a long way to go, and it might reach the point where WhatsApp is today, but that would take a bit of time.

5g-rollout-india-expected-begin-2022-tejas
Tejas Networks, a Bengaluru based company engaged in the "high performance and cost competitive" products in the telecommunications space on Wednesday said that it expects 5G rollouts in India to begin in 2022. The company in its investor presentation highlighted that the roll out of 5G in the country will aid in "expediting fiberization of cell towers." Tejas Networks on Wednesday also reported its third quarter financial results with the Bengaluru based company recording Rs 129.1 crore in consolidated net revenue, translating to a 51.2% year-over-year (YoY) increase. In its third quarter of the current financial year, Tejas Networks registered Rs 9.2 crore in net profit as compared to Rs 112.1 crore loss in the same period in the previous year.

Tejas Networks Expects 100 Million Homes Over Next 3 Years to Have Fiber Broadband Connection

While the government of India is scheduled to hold an spectrum auction in early March, 2021, the Department of Telecom (DoT) will not hold the auction for the 3300 MHz to 4200 MHz bands. ICICI Securities in early January said that the 3300 MHz to 4200 MHz bands are the "most popular band" for 5G and that "it may therefore be part of next auction."

"However, there are other spectrum bands that are also gaining popularity in 5G deployment and, considering these bands provide much better coverage (compared to C-band), they can eventually play the critical role of 'queen' in 5G rollout, particular for non-standalone 5G deployment," ICICI Securities said in its report.

The firm said that the 700 MHz spectrum band along with the 2300 MHz band, 2100 MHz band and the 1800 MHz band are being used by the global operators for 5G deployment.

"These are the bands that are either owned by telcos in India or have been put for auction," ICICI Securities said in its report.

It also has to be noted that the telecom operators in India had provided contrasting timelines for 5G roll out in India. In early December, 2020, it emerged that Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries chairman had tipped that the 5G roll out in the country would kick start in late 2021. However, Sunil Mittal, Bharti Enterprises chairman said that the 5G would become the norm in the next two or three year period.

Meanwhile, Tejas Networks said that it expects the fiber based home broadband connections to increase from three million to 100 million in the next three to four years. The company said that the Indian government's focus on "Atmanirbhar Bharat" has created a "favorable policy environment" as there is a "preference to Make in India" products. Further, the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) program for "specified telecom equipment" also said to cover products made by Tejas Networks.

Crucially, Tejas Networks said that the recent mandate issued by the central government that requires the telecom operators to purchase equipment from "trusted sources" will aid the company.

Tejas Networks Selected by "Major Telcos" for FTTX Network Roll Outs

Tejas Networks said that it has won the tender for BharatNet expansion in two states in the recent months. The BharatNet initiative seeks to offer broadband connectivity to 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats (GP) across the country. It has been said that 489,739 Km of optical fiber has been laid across India as of January 15, 2021, connecting 1,51,404 GPs.

The company also said that it has been picked by "major" telecom operators in India who are currently rolling out fiber based home broadband networks. Further, Tejas Networks said that it is "targeting" internet service providers across the country and that it expects to expand its market share to increase in the next financial year.

Globally, Tejas Networks said that it has "opportunities" with the operators replacing and expanding their networks in the "wake of geo-political developments."

"Operators are motivated to build ‘clean networks’ and diversifying their supplier base," Tejas Network said in the investor presentation.

The company also highlighted that there has been an increase in the fiber-to-the-home deployments "across regions, especially post COVID."

"With increased demand for high-speed home broadband connections on optical fiber and the need for telecom operators to upgrade their backbone network capacity, we see a robust demand for our equipment globally," Sanjay Nayak, managing director and CEO of Tejas Networks, said in a release on Wednesday.

Spectrum Idle with Government Should be Put to Better Use

spectrum-lying-idle-with-government

4G spectrum auctions will take place from March 1, 2021, in India. Telcos have had to wait 5 years for the auction. The last spectrum auction took place in October 2016. This is why the government is now looking for a better way to allocate spectrum to operators other than just relying on auctions. Auctions rarely see a huge percentage of the spectrum being sold. This results in a lot of it lying idle with the government. From the previous auctions to now, a ton of unsold spectrum has been lying idle with the government. There should be a solution introduced to make better use of this resource for ensuring better delivery of services to consumers — more on the story ahead.

Telcos Should be Allowed to Swap Spectrum

As per an ET Telecom report, KK Venugopal has advised the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to approach the Supreme Court (SC) for the same matter. This is because the necessary auction of all-natural resources which have value is based on the 2012 order of the SC.

It is worth noting that only 41% of the total spectrum put to auction by the government was sold in the previous auction. This means a substantial amount of spectrum has been sitting idle, which could enhance the quality of services in the country.

One of the telecom operators has suggested that the idle spectrum should be available for swapping. In simple words, whenever a telco wants spectrum in another unused/unsold band, it should be able to surrender the spectrum it holds and swap it with unused airwaves. The operator has even promised to make payment for the swapped spectrum.

At present, the telcos need to wait for the auctions to be able to buy new airwaves. But the swapping mechanism would make it easier for the telcos to gain access to unused spectrum and further result in the growth of the telecom industry.

The telecom department believes that the broader issue of spectrum allocation will also include E and V bands. For the unaware, these are backhaul airwaves used to help connect the network to nodes and then to towers for facilitating data transmission. Since the SC hasn't distinguished between the bands, it now depends on the government on whether it makes them available in the upcoming auctions or not. The E and V bands are seen as important for 5G rollout, and the telcos have expressed about their wish for these bands to be auctioned.

Reliance Jio Rs 11 4G Voucher Now Offers 25% More Data

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/reliance-jio-rs11-voucher-more-data/327375/, Reliance Jio Rs 11 4G Voucher Now Offers 25% More Data

Reliance Jio has revised the cheapest 4G Data Voucher priced at Rs 11. The Rs 11 4G Data Voucher from Reliance Jio used to offer 800MB of data up until now. After the revision, the plan is offering 1GB of data. Besides the Rs 11 4G Data Voucher, the remaining vouchers of Rs 21, Rs 51 and Rs 101 continue to offer the same benefits as earlier. Earlier this month, we reported the removal of voice calling benefit with these 4G Data Vouchers. For the unaware, the removal of off-net voice calling charges forced Jio also to remove the off-net minutes available on the 4G Data Vouchers. The latest revision to Rs 11 voucher isn’t a bad one as consumers now get 25% more data compared to the previous benefit. The Rs 21 pack offers 2GB of data and the Rs 101 4G Data Voucher comes with 12GB of data benefit.

Reliance Jio 4G Data Vouchers: What They Offer Now?

As mentioned above, the only revision has been made to the Rs 11 4G Data Voucher. Earlier, the plan used to offer 800MB of 4G data benefit, and the revision made the plan offer 1GB of 4G data. The validity of the plan will be the same as your existing plan. Since these are just 4G Data Vouchers, you are not going to get other benefits like voice calling or SMSes.

The remaining three 4G Data Vouchers from Jio remain unchanged. The Rs 21 pack offers 2GB of 4G data, followed by the Rs 51 pack with 6GB of 4G data, and lastly, the Rs 101 pack has 12GB of data benefit on offer.

Besides these 4G Data Vouchers, Reliance Jio also has three Work from Home plans priced at Rs 151, Rs 201 and Rs 251, offering 30GB, 40GB and 50GB data benefit, respectively. Again, these Work from Home plans also will now ship with calling and SMS benefits.

Slowly, the news regarding tariff hike is fading away and Jio continues to revise its plans to provide better offerings than earlier. At the beginning of this year, Reliance Jio removed the off-net voice calling charges. This move also forced the telco to revise the 4G Data Vouchers.

The 4G Data Vouchers got a revision at the beginning of 2020 with off-net minutes being added to benefits list. The Rs 11 4G Data Voucher offered 800MB of data along with 75 non-Jio minutes. However, Jio removed the off-net calling benefit and also made the validity similar to the existing plan’s validity. These are good moves from Reliance Jio to keep the customer base unchanged.

Exclusive: You Broadband Brings New Plans Bundled With Vodafone Idea Postpaid Service

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/exclusive-you-broadband-vi-postpaid-plans/327365/, Exclusive: You Broadband Brings New Plans Bundled With Vodafone Idea Postpaid Service

YOU Broadband, the Vodafone Idea-owned company, has finally launched new broadband plans bundled with the telecom operator’s postpaid services. With these new plans, Vodafone Idea is looking to counter Bharti Airtel and its ‘One Airtel‘ range of plans. Available only in Surat at the moment, You Broadband’s new broadband plans offer unlimited internet with wired broadband connections alongside one Vi postpaid connection. According to the information we have, YOU Broadband introduced these plans earlier this week and the company is also planning to expand the bundled plans to other cities as well. As of this writing, YOU is providing broadband services in 22 cities, but the bundled plans are available only in Surat. Besides the new bundled plans, the ISP also introduced aggressive plans in Pune and Hyderabad cities. Read on to know more about the bundled YOU Broadband plans in detail.

YOU Broadband Plans in Surat Now Come With Vi Postpaid Service

For the unaware, YOU Broadband is a subsidiary of Vodafone Idea in India. Before the merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular, the former acquired YOU Broadband and is now operating the wired broadband company under the merged Vi brand.

Talking about the new combo plans, they offer 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps speeds, and the prices start at just Rs 1,500. Starting with the basic 10 Mbps plan, it comes in only one subscription priced at Rs 1,800, and the validity period if 360 days.

The 100 Mbps bundled plan costs Rs 1,500 for 90 days, Rs 3,000 for 180 days along with 15 days of extra service and Rs 6,000 for 360 days plus 30 days of free service for choosing the long-term package. The 200 Mbps broadband plan costs Rs 1,800 for 90 days, Rs 3,600 for 180 days and Rs 7,200 for 360 days. The six months and 12 months subscription of 200 Mbps plan also offers 15 days and 30 days of free service.

The best part of choosing these plans is the bundled Vi postpaid connection. Yes, the plans mentioned above come with free Vi postpaid connection with unlimited data, unlimited voice, 100 SMSes per day and Amazon Prime subscription at no extra cost. Vi seems to be bundling its Rs 649 postpaid plan with these new YOU Broadband plans.

Having said that, we are not sure about the bundling of Vi postpaid plan with the 10 Mbps plan mentioned above. The pricing of these plans is really aggressive and probably the best-bundled plans from any ISP in the country. Since these are long-term plans, the company is also waiving off installation charges.

The prices mentioned above are exclusive of taxes and an additional 18% GST will be applicable. Also, YOU Broadband is providing unlimited data (3.5TB FUP limit) with the broadband plans of 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps.
