2020 was the year for the rise of video conferencing solutions across the world. The pandemic has forced everyone to work from their home, study everyone at their homes and so on. A lot of industries have been hit by COVID-19. While the world is slowing coming back to normal, but education and business areas will likely remain the same for another year. A lot of colleges and universities are pushing towards continuing online education, whereas work from the home scenario is expected to be continued for a couple of years. There are a slew of video conferencing solutions at the moment such as Zoom Meetings, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Skype, Bluejeans Meetings, JioMeet and so on. Every service has something unique on offer. Which video conferencing app you are using the most?

Video Conferencing Apps Available in 2021

Zoom Meetings saw a massive rise last year, and the same goes with Microsoft Teams and Google Chat. Microsoft Teams is one of the best video conferencing solution available right now because of its simple video/audio conference scheduling with one person or an entire team, up to 10,000 participants support, integration with Microsoft 365 (comes in handy for an organisation that uses Microsoft services), and it also offers web browser support- a feature which a lot of video conferencing apps misses out on.

For the general day-to-day college work, I use Zoom Meetings because of the HD video conferencing support and the mobile application interface is very easy to navigate. Additionally, Zoom Meetings partner with educational institutions to provide unlimited video conferencing access to students and professors. Microsoft Teams is a brilliant solution without any limit, but Zoom Meetings restricts meetings to just 40 minutes with three or more participants, and for a normal person it is not ideal.

I have seen some organisations utilising Google Meet as well, but again, it comes down to the day-to-day apps they use. For example, if a particular organisation uses Google Suite and its wide range of apps, then Google Meet and Google Chat will be their go-to services.

Other notable mentions include Bluejeans Meetings which is slowly gaining some momentum in India as well, thanks to its partnership with Bharti Airtel. On the flip side, we have JioMeet- the in-house video conferencing solution from Reliance Jio that amassed 15 million users in the quarter that ended on December 31, 2020.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has extended the availability of its Rs 699 voucher throughout the country. It is not a new voucher and the state-run telco had initially launched the voucher for telecom circles other than the Kerala circle. But according to a report from KeralaTelecom, this voucher will now be available for users living in Kerala. The Rs 699 BSNL voucher will be available in Kerala from January 25, 2021. The benefits of this voucher will remain the same as offered in other parts of the country. For more details about the story, keep reading ahead.

BSNL Rs 699 Voucher Benefits Explained

With the Rs 699 voucher from BSNL, users get 0.5GB daily fair-usage-policy (FUP) data after which the speed drops to 80 Kbps for the rest of the day. Along with this, users also get 100 SMS/day and unlimited voice calling without any FUP restrictions. The validity of this plan is 160 days.

This is a really good plan from someone who primarily wants to use his/her mobile connection for making calls and sending messages. As mentioned above, it will be on offer from tomorrow, i.e, January 25, 2021.

For recharging with this plan, users can go to the website of the telco or use the USSD code '*444*699#'. Users can also get the plan by sending an SMS to 123 in the format – PLAN BSNL699. But the existing users will have to ensure that they have enough balance before sending the message.

BSNL is Offering free 4G SIM in Kerala

As we reported yesterday, BSNL is offering users in Kerala a free 4G SIM card. It is a promotional offer there for a limited time until January 31, 2021. To get a free 4G SIM card, all a user needs to do is go for a First Recharge Coupon (FRC) of Rs 100 or more. If this condition is met, he or she will be able to get a free SIM card from BSNL.

The offer is available for both users who are looking to buy new numbers and users looking to port their numbers into BSNL.

So ideally, a user in Kerala can now benefit from both the offers mentioned above. He/she can get a free SIM card by recharging with the Rs 699 plan and all of its benefits.

Then there is also the Rs 398 voucher which users can opt for which is offering truly unlimited data along with unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day for 30 days.

Airtel Xstream Box Upgrade Offer: Comes in 3 Options

Starting with the Xstream Box Basic upgrade plan, it is available at just Rs 2,050 for the Set-Top Box and Rs 250 for installation charges. So the price of the basic plan is Rs 2,300. This is just for the box and does not bundle any OTT subscriptions.

The next two Airtel Xstream Box upgrade options come bundled with OTT subscriptions. The first option costs Rs 2,050 for the Set-Top Box, Rs 250 for installation charges and Rs 1,699 towards OTT subscriptions. The OTT subscriptions included are Disney+ Hotstar VIP, ZEE5 Premium and Airtel Xstream Premium; All the subscriptions come with one-year validity. So the overall price for the upgrade comes to Rs 3,999.

Under the third option, the price of the Airtel Xstream Box remains the same at Rs 2,050 and the company will also charge Rs 250 towards installation charges. However, the OTT subscriptions’ cost Rs 2,399 which includes Amazon Prime, ZEE5 Premium, Disney+ Hotstar VIP and Airtel Xstream App Premium. All the OTT subscriptions offer one-year validity.
