BSNL has made a couple of changes to its long-term prepaid plans of Rs 1,999 (PV 1,999) and Rs 2,399 (PV 2,399). While the PV 1,999 is getting an extra validity of 21 days, the PV 2,399 is getting a massive validity reduction. BSNL is increasing the validity of PV 1,999 on the occasion of 72nd Republic Day and Pongal festival. The PV 1,999 usually offers 365 days of validity, but the company is adding another 21 days validity taking the overall validity to 386 days. On the other hand, PV 2,399 is getting multiple revisions, but the major one is the validity reduction from 600 days to 365 days. As a limited period offer, the PV 2,399 will get another 72 days of extra validity, but the original validity of the plan is reduced to 365 days that is similar to PV 1,999.

BSNL PV 2,399: Revised Benefits Detailed

The PV 2,399 right now is offering 600 days of validity. But the telco is reducing the validity to 365 days. On the occasion of 72nd Republic Day, BSNL will provide an additional 72 days validity which takes the overall validity to 437 days. Do make a note that this is a promotional offer and will be valid only till January 31, 2021, starting from January 10. Starting February 1, the PV 2,399 will offer only 365 days of validity.

BSNL also revised the benefits offered by the PV 2,399. The plan will offer unlimited voice calling to any network within India without any FUP limit. Earlier, BSNL restricted the voice calls to 250 minutes per day. The unlimited voice calls can be made to even MTNL network in Mumbai and Delhi telecom circles. Also, the PV 2,399 now offers unlimited data that’s restricted at 3GB data per day, and the speeds will be reduced to 80 Kbps after that. Users also get 100 SMSes per day benefit.

Lastly, BSNL also added free Eros Now subscription and unlimited Personalised Ringback Tone benefits to the PV 2,399. Do make a note that the Eros Now subscription will be valid for the entire validity period.

BSNL PV 1,999 Now Offers 386 Days Validity

Moving onto the PV 1,999, BSNL has extended the validity by 21 days which takes the overall validity period to 386 days. The PV 1,999 offers the same 3GB data per day, unlimited voice calling to any network, 100 SMSes per day, free BSNL Tunes with unlimited song change option, Lokdhun content for two months and Eros Now subscription for 365 days. The total validity of these benefits will be 386 days. The Lokdhun content validity will be just 60 days from the date of recharge.

The offer will be valid from January 10 and it will end on January 31.

airtel-and-vodafone-idea-rs-449-prepaid-plans

Telecom operators in India offer multiple prepaid plans for similar denominations and benefits. This is to counter the offerings from their competition. Today, we will be discussing one such plan from Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi). More specifically, we will be looking at the benefits of the Rs 449 prepaid plan from both the operators and then compare them to check which one is the better option. Both are prepaid offerings and are available for users nationwide. A thing worth noting is that both the plans also have the same validity of 56 days — more on the comparison ahead.

Airtel Rs 449 Prepaid Plan

Let's start with the Rs 449 prepaid offering from Airtel. This prepaid plan ships with 2GB daily fair-usage-policy (FUP) data, unlimited voice calling benefit to any network within India, and 100 SMS/day. Since the plan has a validity of 56 days, the total FUP data that users will get is 112GB.

There are additional over-the-top (OTT), and Airtel Thanks benefits offered with this plan which includes a free subscription of Airtel Xstream Premium for one year, free online courses with Shaw Academy for one year, free Hellotunes, unlimited downloads with Wynk Music, and Rs 100 cashback on FASTag transaction.

Vodafone Idea Rs 449 Prepaid Plan

Coming to the Rs 449 prepaid plan from Vi, users get 4GB daily FUP data (2GB+2GB under the Double Data Offer), unlimited voice calling to any network within India, and 100 SMS/day. The only OTT benefit included with this plan is 'Vi Movies & TV' access for one year. Since this plan has a validity of 56 days as well, users get a total of 224GB FUP data.

That's not all though; Vi has also included this plan under its 'Weekend Data Rollover' offer. For the unaware, under the offer, users can utilise the unused data from the week at the weekend when they usually require more data for high-quality streaming.

Verdict

It is obvious that the Rs 449 prepaid plan from Vi stumps the offering of Airtel. While the validity, calling, price, and SMS benefits of the plans are the same, Vi takes a huge lead when it comes to FUP data offered. It is exactly double from what Airtel users get. Also, the fact that they can utilise all the unused data from the week at the weekend is just icing on the cake. So, between the two operators, Vi's Rs 449 prepaid plan is way better than the Rs 449 prepaid plan of Airtel.

BSNL Rs 398 Prepaid Voucher to Offer Truly Unlimited Data and Voice Calling

bsnl-398-prepaid-unlimited-data-voice-calling

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced a new prepaid voucher of Rs 398 which will offer truly unlimited voice calling and data benefits to the user. To clarify, truly unlimited here means without fair usage policy (FUP) restrictions. Users will be able to make unlimited downloads/uploads and voice calls within India without worrying about exhausting FUP limits. It is worthy to note that none of the other prepaid offerings from any of the telecom operators including Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and Reliance Jio come with such a benefit — more on the story ahead.

BSNL Rs 398 Voucher Details

According to a report from KeralaTelecom, the Rs 398 prepaid voucher from BSNL will offer users truly unlimited data and voice calling benefits. The validity of this plan will be 30 days, and within these 30 days, the user can make unlimited downloads and uploads without worrying about any FUP limit.

In addition to the voice calling and data benefits, users will also get 100 SMS/day without additional cost. The unlimited voice calling and SMS benefits will also be applicable in the roaming and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) network areas including Delhi and Mumbai.

Users won't be able to make outgoing calls or SMSs to premium numbers, international numbers, IN numbers, and other chargeable shortcodes for free. Any outgoing call or SMS to these numbers will attract standard charges. The state-run telecom operator reserves the right for discontinuing services for a user subscribed to this plan without any prior notice if he/she is found participating in any malpractice/misuse/fraudulent behaviour.

The Rs 398 voucher from BSNL will be available for users to subscribe to from January 10, 2021. Also, the plan will be available for every telecom circle of the country.

It is quite unclear if this plan will give a tough competition to other telecom operators. While it is true that none of the other operators offers truly unlimited data, they still offer best-in-class 4G services to their users. At the same time, BSNL is still in the process of shifting from 3G to 4G and when it will exactly happen is unclear.

So the users will get unlimited voice calling and unlimited data in a true sense, but at low-speeds and an inferior quality network. Only time will tell how accepting users will be of this plan. It would still fall under the expensive category since it will cost almost Rs 400 for a month. Some would argue why not go for a postpaid plan around this price and get over-the-top (OTT) benefits.

Bharti Airtel, the second largest wireless operator in India is set to "outperform yet again," ICICI Securities said in a report on Friday. In its report, ICICI Securities, a subsidiary of ICICI Bank said that Airtel will register "strong" user additions in the third quarter of the current financial year. The firm said that the "strong" user additions will aid the operator to record a 5% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) increase in mobile revenues. In the same period, ICICI Securities said that Vodafone Idea will register a 1.1% increase in mobile revenues.

Airtel Set to Record 10 Million 4G Subscriber Additions

ICICI Securities said that the Airtel subscriber base is "likely to grow" by nine million in the third quarter of the current financial year. Similarly, the firm said that Vodafone Idea, the third largest wireless operator in India is set to record a three million dip in its user base in the same period.

"VIL has seen deceleration in its subs decline, and we expect its subs base to stabilise in Q4FY21," ICICI Securities said in its report. "Bharti should benefit from rise in MNP, which should also drive higher revenue growth."

The firm also highlighted that it is factoring in 0.1% increase in average revenue per user (ARPU) for Airtel and 3% increase in ARPU for Vodafone Idea in Q3FY21.

"The rise for VIL is optically higher on exit of low ARPU subs," ICICI Securities said in its report.

ICICI Securities said that it expects Airtel to register 10 million data subscribers in the third quarter of the current financial year. In the same period, ICICI Securities said that it sees Vodafone Idea to register two million subscriber additions.

"Bharti would also show continued traction in 4G subs addition (10mn) and grab higher market share," ICICI Securities said in its report.

Vodafone Idea Lost Mostly Low ARPU Users

ICICI Securities said that Airtel India revenues are set to increase 1.8% QoQ to Rs 192 billion in the third quarter of the current financial year translating to 21% increase year-over-year (YoY). The firm highlights that the Airtel revenues will largely be driven by the mobile segment with the division recording a 5% QoQ and 30% YoY growth.

Further, ICICI Securities said that Vodafone Idea revenues are likely to increase by 1.1% QoQ to Rs 109 billion in the third quarter of the current financial year. The firm said that the "continued loss" of subscribers will result in Vodafone Idea registering lower increase in revenues with the user base tipped to "start growing from Q4 itself."

"ARPU is estimated to increase 3% QoQ as most of the lost subs were in the low-ARPU bucket," ICICI Securities said in its report.

4g-spectrum-half-price-upcoming-auction

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) which decides the price of the spectrum bands or airwaves sold to the telecom operators will be availing the 4G spectrum for less than half the price in the upcoming auctions. Just to be clear, half the price here means half the price of what the operators paid for the spectrum bands in the previously held auctions. The 4G spectrum auction is slated to start from March 2021 in India. It is worth noting that most of the spectrum bands’ base prices are suggested by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). Still, DoT has made some changes to the pricing in the 700 MHz and 1800 MHz bands for select circles — more details on the story ahead.

DoT Lowered the Price of 900 MHz Band in 11 Circles of India

As per a report from PTI, DoT has lowered 900 MHz spectrum band’s reserve price in over 11 circles of India. This includes Karnataka, Assam, and North-Eastern India. What's worth noting here is that the price reduced by the telecom department is more than 50% in certain circles. When measured, the price reduction in all the concerned circles ranges from 27% to 57% compared to the same bands’ reserve price in 2014-2015 auctions.

In Delhi, the telecom department has reduced the reserve price of 900 MHz bands by 28%. This time around, the price set is Rs 585 crore per MHz compared to Rs 811.62 crore in the previous auctions.

At the same time, the reserve price for 900 MHz band in Kerala has reduced from Rs 369.4 crore to Rs 199 crore, in Karnataka has reduced from Rs 557.5 crore to Rs 238 crore meaning a reduction of more than 50%, and in Madhya Pradesh from Rs 309.5 crore to Rs 195 crore for the upcoming auctions. The older prices mentioned are from the March 2015 auctions.

DoT has focused on price reduction for all the circles where the operators didn't bid much for the spectrum in the previous auction. Circles such as Gujarat, UP East, UP West, and Bihar will see a big price cut in spectrum bands in the upcoming auction.

Reserve price in the 800 MHz bands has been reduced because last time around, bidders didn't show much interest in this group of airwaves. ICICI Securities has said that the base price in the 800 MHz bands has been reduced by 18.5% compared with the price set in the 2016 auction.

However, it is worth noting that the base price in the 1800 MHz and 2300 MHz bands has increased by 14.5% and 17.5% respectively, according to ICICI Securities.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Receives BIS Certification, India Launch Imminent

Xiaomi seems to be gearing up for the launch of Redmi Note 10 series. 2020 was all about Redmi Note 9 and Redmi 9 series of phones, and in 2021, we will see a lot of phones under the Redmi Note 10 series. Earlier this week, a mysterious Redmi smartphone with model number- M2101K6G was spotted on the FCC certification website. The phone is believed to be the Redmi Note 10 Pro. And now, tipster Mukul Sharma confirmed the same device with M2101K6G model number has received BIS certification. This could mean the launch of this Redmi phone is not far away in India. The Redmi Note 9 and Note 9 Pro were launched in March 2020, so the Note 10 Pro could arrive around the same time, or an early February launch is also possible. Specifications of the Redmi Note 10 Pro were also leaked online by another tipster.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro India Launch: What We Know So Far

The Redmi Note 10 Pro moniker was confirmed by FCC listing earlier this week with model number- M2101K6G. The same model number has appeared on BIS certification website. The FCC listing of Redmi Note 10 Pro confirmed the phone will arrive in three configurations- 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB. It is worth noting that the Redmi Note 10 Pro will run Android 11 out of the box, probably with MIUI 12.5 on top.

Moving on, a Telegram channel going by the name XiaomiUI has leaked the specifications of Redmi Note 10 Pro. The handset might come with a 5050mAh battery, Snapdragon 732G chipset, up to 8GB of RAM, 64MP quad-camera setup and a Full HD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate.

Unfortunately, the Redmi Note 10 Pro will not have 5G support (revealed by the FCC listing). However, a 5G Redmi Note 10 Pro may launch in China at some point later this year. Xiaomi recently launched its most affordable 5G smartphone- the Mi 10i at a starting price of Rs 20,999. That said, we might have to wait a little bit longer for 5G-enabled Redmi Note devices to launch in India. Xiaomi is already selling the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G in China which arrived in India as Mi 10i.

The Note 10 Pro will succeed the Redmi Note 9 Pro in India which is one of the best phones under Rs 15,000 since its launch in March 2020. The Note 9 Pro had two models- the standard Note 9 Pro with 48MP quad-camera setup and a Note 9 Pro Max model with 64MP quad-camera setup. The Note 10 Pro could be a direct successor to the Note 9 Pro Max. The Note 9 Pro devices were powered by the Snapdragon 720G SoC.

BSNL to Match Private Telcos by Offering Unlimited Voice Calling Without Any Limit

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-unlimited-voice-calling-fup-limit/323641/, BSNL to Match Private Telcos by Offering Unlimited Voice Calling Without Any Limit

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to soon start offering truly unlimited voice calling benefit with its prepaid and postpaid plans. The telco is now limiting the voice calls at 250 minutes per day across all the offerings. To recall, BSNL introduced the voice calling FUP limit in August 2019. Despite private telecom operators constantly offering unlimited voice calling benefit, BSNL limited the voice calls to both the prepaid and postpaid subscribers. Having said that, the government-owned telco is making a much-required and much-awaited move. All the existing BSNL prepaid and postpaid plans will now come with unlimited on-net and off-net voice calling benefit. The telco will implement the change on January 10, 2021, across all the circles.

BSNL Prepaid and Postpaid Plans to Offer Unlimited Calling

In the past, private telcos (Airtel and Vi) also used to limit voice calls on a daily and weekly basis. However, to match Reliance Jio and its unlimited calling benefit, Airtel and Vodafone Idea started offering truly unlimited voice calls with all the plans. Starting January 10, all the BSNL prepaid and postpaid plans will come without any FUP limit on voice calls.

Reliance Jio had a FUP limit/off-net calling charges until January 1, 2021, but the telco removed to match Airtel and Vodafone Idea. This move from BSNL was always on the cards and we are wondering why it took so long for the telco to implement this change. This is the second welcome change from BSNL this year; Yesterday, we reported Blackout Days’ removal on BSNL network for this year. And today, we have the removal of FUP limit on voice calls- both on-net and off-net.

As noted, the telco will be implementing this change on January 10, 2021. This news is first reported by Kerala Telecom, however, TelecomTalk accessed the official press release. BSNL started the year by hiking the prices of two prepaid plans. The PV 186 from BSNL is now available as PV 199, whereas the STV 199 is retailing as STV 201.

Over the last few months, BSNL is losing mobile subscribers in a small number, nonetheless, it is a worrying factor for the operator. Since 2016, BSNL is the only telco besides Reliance Jio to continually add new customers every month. Both Airtel and Vodafone Idea lost a huge number of users. BSNL currently has over 110 million mobile customers across 20 telecom circles and the number will only get better with such customer-friendly moves.

JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber 1 Gbps Plan Compared With Tata Sky Broadband

jiofiber-airtel-xstream-fiber-1-gbps-tata-sky-broadband

A couple of days back, we reported that Tata Sky is offering a 1 Gbps broadband plan. This plan is offered only in Wagholi (Pune suburb) at the moment. The offering becomes interesting when the user purchases the plan for 1-year. With 1-year validity, the cost of the plan comes down to Rs 4,012 per month (Rs 48,144 in total) which is very close to the price of 1 Gbps broadband plans offered by Airtel Xstream Fiber and JioFiber on a monthly basis. Today we are comparing these plans to see where the offering from Tata Sky Broadband stands.

JioFiber 1 Gbps Broadband Plan

JioFiber offers two 1 Gbps broadband plans. We are going to focus on the one which comes for Rs 3,999 per month. It offers users 3.3TB or 3,300GB data with unlimited voice calling service. Users get free over-the-top (OTT) subscriptions of Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar VIP, Voot Select, Voot Kids, Amazon Prime Video, ZEE5, SonyLIV, Hoichoi, ShemarooMe, ALTBalaji, Lionsgate Play, Eros Now, Discovery+, Sun NXT, JioSaavn, and JioCinema.

Airtel Xstream Fiber 1 Gbps Broadband Plan

Airtel Xstream Fiber also offers its monthly 1 Gbps plan for Rs 3,999. It offers users 3.3TB or 3,333GB data with the plan along with the OTT benefits of Airtel Xstream Premium, Disney+ Hotstar, Wynk Music, Voot Basic, Lions Gate, Hungama Play, Eros Now, Ultra, and ShemarooMe.

Tata Sky Broadband 1 Gbps Plan

Tata Sky doesn't offer its 1 Gbps plan for a monthly cost. It offers it in three different validities of 3, 6, and 12 months. As mentioned above, when purchasing the plan for 12 months, its monthly cost will come down to Rs 4,012. There are no OTT benefits included with the plan, but the users get 3.3TB or 3,300GB data with unlimited voice calling as well.

Verdict

The 1 Gbps broadband plan from Tata Sky doesn't even come near the two plans from JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber. First of all, the cost is too high since the user will have to shell out Rs 48,144 all together to get the monthly cost of the plan down. Then, there are no OTT benefits which is the strangest thing since all the internet service providers (ISPs) today are providing their users with multiple OTT benefits.

There is not much difference in the plans offered by JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber except for a few gigabytes of data and a few OTT subscriptions. Thus, JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber comfortably take the upper hand against Tata Sky Broadband when it comes to 1 Gbps broadband plans.
