Realme is a tech company that is not known for making accidental screwups. Today, however, seems to be different for the Chinese company, as, by accident or by intention, be what it may, the company released the specifications for the X7 Pro (Indian variant). This came complete with listings regarding the chipset, the camera and, most importantly, the ability of the phone to make use of 5G, giving us a peek of the X7 Pro, a few days prior to its official launch on February 4. Realme X7 Pro Complete SpecificationsThe listing, which was done on the company’s official site names the three colour variants that the device will be available in, with the three hues being dubbed Aerolite Black, Iridescent and Skyline white. In terms of the performance, the device, according to the listing is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 1000+ chip, with support for 5G. This is a 7nm based chip which is coupled with the ARM G77 GPU. Furthermore, as part of the performance-related segment, it is revealed that the device has an Antutu score of over 540,000. Storage options include a maximum of 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. As for other specifications, the device features a 4500mAh battery with support for 65W Dart Charging, based on USB Type-C. The charger is a part of the box, rather than being sold separately, meaning that is not a matter of concern, since sometimes brands advertise a certain wattage of charging, but the in-box charger is capable of far less (in terms of wattage).
The display on the device is a 6.55-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of Full HD+. There is also a screen to body ratio of 91.6%, which is pretty impressive. In terms of the cutout available, the device makes use of a punch-hole style notch. The peak brightness that can be achieved with the panel is 1200 nits, which is good, if not great. In terms of the refresh rate, the device will feature a refresh rate of 120Hz, meaning it will be both vibrant and smooth, something which is not quite common in the budget segment. As for protection, the display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. When it comes to the cameras, the device sports a quad-camera stack, highlighted by a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor. Other sensors that are a part of the stack consist of an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP macro lens and a Black & White Portrait lens. Towards the front, the punch-hole comprises a 32MP sensor. As for the video side of things, one can shoot up to 4K 60FPS videos via the X7 Pro’s rear camera, whilst the front camera peaks out at a resolution of 1080P. The X7 Pro will also come with NFC as per the listing and offer support for Dual-Mode 5G. Both NSA and SA are supported in the X7 Pro. Do note that Realme states that the 5G icon being displayed is dependent on carrier requirements and the network on offer, meaning you will not see the 5G device on the X7 Pro all the time, if not at all. Towards the end of the listing, we see that the device weighs 184 grams and, has a dual nano card slot. At the time of launch, the device will run on Realme UI based on Android 10, meaning that even after Android 11 having been announced a while back, the Realme X7 Pro will still, at the time of launch run on an older version of Android. |

The Indian government, which announced its Budget for the year 2021 made many important announcements, which also included some announcements that would impact the smartphone segment in quite a major way. In an announcement made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the government has decided to remove exemptions on parts of chargers and mobiles in a bid to promote local manufacturing. The new Budget proposes an increase from 0 to 2.5% on customs duty to imposed on several parts of mobiles. "Domestic electronic manufacturing has grown rapidly. We are now exporting items like mobiles and chargers. Mobile Phones to See Another Round of Price Hike in India“For greater domestic value addition, we are withdrawing a few exemptions on parts of chargers and sub-parts of mobiles. Further, some parts of mobiles will move from 'nil' rate to a moderate 2.5%," said Ms Sitharaman. These new rates will be applicable on inputs, parts as well as sub-parts for the manufacture of specified parts of mobile phones such as the Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA), camera modules and connectors. The rate of customs duty levied on Printed Circuit Board Assembly [PCBA] of chargers or adapters has been increased from 10% to 15%, stated the government. The Finance Minister also said that Centre was Cutting Basic Customs Duty rate on nylon chips & nylon fibre. To add to the list of changes, the Budget also proposed an increase of the customs duty on parts of mobile chargers from Nil to 10 per cent. The new rates will come into effect from April 1, 2021. This change is likely to affect the prices of smartphones, with a hike strongly expected from most, if not all smartphone manufacturers. "The customs changes are in line of what was expected with two key focus areas, ie, ease of doing business by way of reiteration of streamlining of customs processes and “make in India”, by way of increase in duties on those products/ components that there is a push for manufacture in India. These rate changes seem aligned to those sectors where the PLI schemes have been announced, eg, solar, auto components, mobile parts and steel," stated Mr Mahesh Jaising, Partner, Deloitte India. He explained that this move was in line to encourage the setting-up of an entire ecosystem of mobile manufacturing within India, which should encourage indigenous manufacturing but, he cautiously added that there will be an increase in cost in short term basis. "On one front, this should encourage and give impetus to the indigenous manufacturing and also position India as a formidable Mobile Phone manufacturing hub. However, on an immediate basis, until there is an ecosystem of manufacture of these components, we may observe an impact of incremental cost on manufacturers of mobile phones on a short term basis and the same may have an impact on the pricing," Jaising said. |

| 5G Might Ease and Develop Physical Banking Experience for Users Posted: 01 Feb 2021 03:41 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/5g-might-ease-and-develop-physical-banking/332308/, 5G Might Ease and Develop Physical Banking Experience for Users
The next generation of wireless connectivity is surely going to be revolutionary in many ways. It will change the way people interact with technology and would connect more IoT devices together. One of the things it will have a major impact on is the user's experience with Automated Teller Machine (ATM). If you think that 5G would somehow ease the way people take out cash from ATMs, you are not wrong, only narrow-sighted. Widely looking, 5G can facilitate a virtual bank manager and help you go ahead with the KYC process right at the ATM outlet, saving you a lot of time— more on the story ahead. ATM Machines Can Become Relay Points for 5G NetworkAccording to an ET Telecom report, the Institute for Development & Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), based out of Hyderabad is currently working to bring these features to life as soon as 5G is commercially available. The ex-director of IDRBT, AS Ramasastri who retired back in October 2020 and used to head the project said that the ATMs could potentially act as relay networks for 5G and become extended branches for banks which can do multiple things to make life easier for users. He said that while India had to catch up with the rest of the world with 2G, 3G, and 4G, it won't have to do so with 5G since both the RBI and the government wants to leverage this technology as earlier as possible. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have already claimed that their networks are 5G ready. Airtel recently proved the same by testing it live at Hyderabad in the 1800 MHz band. The thing that was remarkable about this test was that it offered users 10x speed and 10x latency without the dedicated 5G spectrum (3300 MHz – 3600 MHz). Airtel said that under the test, a 1GB movie could be downloaded under seconds while in 4G it would take up to a few minutes. Ramasastri said that 5G would enable people living in rural areas to complete high-speed transactions easily. He noted that either customer would be able to do it him/herself or the staff carrying a 5G supportive gadget will do it. All the lab that needs to work now on is providing some proof of concept (POC) for the same. He further said that 5G would allow users to carry out financial transactions in an easier manner and make it more secure. With 5G, things could be carried out on a real-time basis. Also, higher data speeds would enable systems to become more intelligent and carry out complex tests faster. |
| New SMS Templates Hard for 50% Business to Understand and Implement: Report Posted: 01 Feb 2021 12:34 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/new-sms-templates-hard-for-business/332303/, New SMS Templates Hard for 50% Business to Understand and Implement: Report
Telecom operators have reached a consensus on pushing the deadline for businesses to implement new SMS content templates in their system. The reason cited by the telcos to push the deadline from January 31, 2021, until further notice is that approximately 50% of businesses couldn't understand the new SMS templates. Since they couldn't understand it, they couldn't apply it. The 50% businesses which couldn't understand the new blockchain-based SMS system included banks, government agencies, and other financial institutions — more details on the story ahead. Implementation of the System Now Would Have Caused HavocSome industry executives told ET Telecom that marking January 31, 2021, as the last date for implementing the new SMS-template system would have caused havoc amongst the companies and the general public. This is because multiple financial institutions and UIDAI, which helps with Aadhaar authentication to avail Direct Benefit Transfer have not integrated the new SMS system with their APIs. Important transaction messages or SMSs such as OTPs would have been blocked which would have brought half the country or more of it at hold. So now the telcos have decided to extend the date until further notice to help the businesses in adopting the new SMS system. As per a directive from the Telecom Communications Customer Preference Regulations, every business in the country which wants to send out bulk-SMSs to the users need to register their new SMS content template, header name, and the content which will be sent out. To reduce SMS frauds, the telecom department and telcos kicked off the first phase of this operation back on September 1, 2020, which blocked dubious and unregistered headers from reaching out to the users. This alone has reduced SMS frauds by up to 90%, which is a staggering number. The telemarketers have an opinion on the matter as well. They say that while the new system is efficient in reducing SMS fraud, it should not be forced upon the businesses just yet. This is because the industry will need some time to adapt to the new system; nothing happens in a very short frame of time. It is worth noting that the telecom department had put a penalty of total Rs 35 crores against Airtel, Jio, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). This was because of violating the customer preference regulations that the department said allowed the cybercriminals to send fake SMSs in bulk to India’s users. The final date or deadline to implement the new SMS content template system is yet to be announced by the telcos. |
| Airtel and Jio Might Spend 20% More in Upcoming Spectrum Auctions Posted: 31 Jan 2021 11:40 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/airtel-jio-spend-more-upcoming-spectrum-auctions/332277/, Airtel and Jio Might Spend 20% More in Upcoming Spectrum Auctions
Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are now expected to flush in more money at the upcoming spectrum auctions. The sudden change in the estimated expense for the telcos comes because of the government’s latest decision. The government has now reduced the time for the telcos to give notices for using the spectrum won at the auction to roll out any new technology. For the unaware, the time has been reduced by half to six months. This means the telcos will be able to use the spectrum purchased at the auction for rolling out 5G faster than before — more details on the story ahead. What Would More Revenue From Airtel and Jio Look Like for the Government? As per a report from ET Telecom, the government stands to get up to Rs 8,000 crore more than what was estimated before (Rs 40,000 crore). Around a fourth of the total expected revenue might come as an upfront payment from the telcos. Both Airtel and Jio have 5G ready networks. This will allow them to roll out 5G as soon as they are allocated sufficient spectrum. Neither of the telcos would actually need to wait for the dedicated 5G airwaves sale to roll out the next-gen technology. The telcos can spend 15% to 20% extra on the spectrum in select category A circles and cities. They can use their existing 4G assets to give users a real taste of how 5G would look like. Until now, Jio, the largest telecom operator in the country, was expected to shell out Rs 20,000 crore, and Airtel was expected to shell out Rs 15,000 crore in the upcoming auctions. On the other hand, Vodafone Idea (Vi) is expected to be quite stiff with its expenditure in the auctions given its financial position as well the spectrum resource it already holds. Airtel might go after more 900 MHz and 1800 MHz spectrum while Jio will focus on renewing all the expiring spectrum and push for 800 MHz spectrum. Broader Rollout Only Possible After DoT Offers Dedicated 5G SpectrumEven though Airtel has demonstrated successful 5G tests with the 1800 MHz spectrum, the broader rollout of 5G won't be possible until the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) offers dedicated 5G spectrum in the 3300-3600 MHz bands. With the extra spectrum bought in the upcoming auctions, Jio and Airtel will only be able to offer a limited 5G service in select circles. The 4G spectrum auction is slated to take place from March 1, 2021. |
| The Long Awaited Chrome Extension for iCloud is Finally Here Posted: 31 Jan 2021 10:41 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/the-long-awaited-chrome-extension-for-icloud/332207/, The Long Awaited Chrome Extension for iCloud is Finally Here
On Monday, Apple finally released an official extension meant for the Windows and Mac versions of Chrome, with a long-awaited feature that lets users use their passwords stored in their iCloud Keychain. This comes at a time when the use of both Windows and Mac-based devices is at an all-time high when most tasks have moved online. It is a welcome addition to someone who uses the Chrome browser but takes the help of Apple’s iCloud keychain as a dedicated password manager as it makes the process of moving to and fro from Macs and Windows computers hassle-free. This comes just days after Apple updated its iCloud for Windows application, which already provided hints at the future introduction of support for an extension that would enable the use of iCloud passwords via the Chrome browser on Windows. "Support for iCloud Passwords Chrome Extension" was also listed as a new feature despite the extension not having been released or announced. For those of you wondering, the update also brought along with it improvements in the Folder Sharing user interface, making it quite a bit easier to access and share folders across supported platforms. The release of the extension meant that if a user has used Safari in the past to generate strong passwords on other platforms automatically, those will now be available to them in Chrome when they are prompted by the browser for login. Passwords created in Chrome for Windows will also sync back to the iCloud meaning they will be available to access on iOS devices as well. What is iCloud? For any user who uses iOS or iCloud on their work computer or personal phone, iCloud for Windows is the perfect tool to bridge the gap between the different operating systems. The user base might consist of tons of users who own an iPad or iPhone but make use of a Windows PC for their work or personal use, as is the case with many professionals. As for the use case of iCloud, the software allows the user to keep their photos, videos, mail, calendar, files and other information in the cloud, up to date and accessible anytime on a Windows PC. The tool is not a simple feature, with some smart features bundled in, such as the ability to keep lightweight versions of images on one’s PC and syncing of bookmarks from other browsers to stay updated on Safari. It is, for lack of a better word, the glue that binds together all your essential information, making it available to you at all times, regardless of the device and its operating system. |

| Here’s How You Can Prevent Facebook From Tracking You on the Internet Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:58 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/facebook-data-tracking-prevention-internet/332157/, Here’s How You Can Prevent Facebook From Tracking You on the Internet
The last few weeks have been everything but kind to Facebook. The company was under a lot of scrutiny for having access to user data that it doesn't require of. In addition to that, the whole WhatsApp privacy issue and the shift to better alternatives such as Telegram and Signal that followed, Facebook has had a bad January to say the least. The company is yet to learn that not addressing the flaws to user privacy is something that no user wishes to see. If you too are tired of Facebook having more access than it needs and are worried about your data, this article will be of immense help to you. Do note that the simplest way of blocking Facebook from accessing data is by turning off all the permissions, which can be done by opening Facebook and going to the permissions menu. What Data Does Facebook Have?Facebook, when asked about these data risks, claims that it will never ask third-party apps or platforms for the health or financial data of its users. The company also claims that it receives activity from businesses and organisations that take use of their tools so as to understand how well their site performs. Facebook also states that it uses the activity of the users' based data to show relevant ads and suggest likely topics that might interest them. But statements do not explain the entire situation. The company is capable of knowing which application you have opened, what you have searched for, what you have purchased and more. Consider one uses some app to book train tickets, Facebook can use the activity and suggest ads to you accordingly. Additional information that lies in the hands of Facebook includes your purchase history, contacts, search history, products you interact with or ads related to the same, precise location, physical address amongst, and so on. How to Prevent Facebook from Tracking Your DataIn case you wish to try and limit the amount of data that the app can track from someone, you can refer to the steps given below. Do note, this tutorial is on Android, so iOS users might have a slightly different experience. Step 1: Open the Facebook application on your device and tap on the three bars to the top, located on the right side of the screen.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on the "Settings and Privacy" option.
Step 3: Once you press the option, go to Settings option and tap on the Off-Facebook activity option.
Step 4: Tap on the clear history option. Doing this ensures that you delete all the data that has been collected by Facebook. Once you do so, the applications whose logos appear on top disappear.
Step 5: To disable this from happening in the future, you need to tap on more options and then go to "Manage Future Activities"
Step 6: Tap the Manage Future Activity option again and tap on Future Off-Facebook Activity
Doing so will ensure that the user will stop getting personalised advertisements based on their daily online activities. If you wish for your ads to be personalised, you will have to pay for the same with your data, which nobody would want to do. |
| When Will Bharti Airtel, Vi and Jio Announce 5G Plans in India Posted: 31 Jan 2021 05:32 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/airtel-vi-jio-5g-plans-launch-india/332133/, When Will Bharti Airtel, Vi and Jio Announce 5G Plans in India
India has been patiently waiting for 5G, with the network being available in most, if not all the popular countries for quite some time now. Add to this the increasing number of smartphone launches with a focus on 5G and the subsequent introduction of newer bands, so as to accommodate Sub-6 GHz and mmWave based 5G, making the absence of 5G in the country seem even longer than it actually is. That being said, Bharti Airtel announced recently that it had tested 5G in a commercial test, that too in the city of Hyderabad. During the said test, they were able to produce good results, despite being on an older spectrum and using a method to combine both 4G and 5G on a single tower. This was able to produce some results, even though they were far from what was advertised all over the world. Whatever might be the result, this test did indicate that brands are gearing up for the launch of 5G and, when it does get clearance, the feature will be accessible to most, if not all without long waits. This brings us to the question as to when major telecom providers such as Airtel, Vi and Jio will announce their plans. What Are the Bands Required for 5G?The frequency bands that are required for 5G are unavailable in the country. For those unaware, Trai is hosting 700 MHz to 2,500 MHz auctions in March 2021, but it is inadequate and would affect the rollout of 5G, as per the operators. The telcos have recommended a sale of the spectrum of 3,300-3,600 MHz, which is the optimal spectrum for 5G. Do note however that the final decision as to whether or not the spectrum will be sold depends on the government and the telcos will have to adhere to what the government has to say. Reliance Jio 5G PlansReliance Jio, popularly known as the pioneer of the 5G revolution in India, the company's chairman, Mukesh Ambani announced back in the day that Jio will lead the 5G revolution, starting by launching the same in the second half of 2021. The company also claimed that it could easily shift from it's existing infrastructure, thanks in part to the converged network infrastructure. It is also believed that the telco might buy a large chunk of 700 MHz spectrum in the upcoming auction to fulfil its 5G ambitions unless the government announces the auction of 3300-3600MHz, which is globally popular for 5G. The official Jio 5G launch is expected to take place sometime in October or November 2021. Bharti Airtel 5G PlansBharti Airtel, the closest company to have showcased any kind of 5G, is yet to reveal its plans regarding the same. The company also believes that the next generation of mobile technology needs more time to be rolled out across the country. That being said, Airtel is ready for 5G and its effective rollout, having recently conducted a commercial test in the city of Hyderabad. Furthermore, it has already deployed its MIMO (Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) technology in areas such as Bengaluru and Kolkata. Vodafone Idea (Vi) 5G PlansVi, popularly known as Vodafone Idea is also gearing up for the roll out of 5G in India, as soon as the spectrum auction takes place. The company has already upgraded its infrastructure to a 5G based architecture as well as additional tech like dynamic spectrum reframing. As for testing, the telco has been proposing trials with many vendors, some of which include Huawei and Ericsson. However, Vi’s participation in the upcoming 5G auction will depend on its financial health over the next two quarters. BSNL 5G PlansBSNL remains in the dark when it comes to its 5G plans and the method it will take for the rollout of the same. Two years ago, in 2019, the company announced that it would come up with a 5G corridor in Delhi, but updates regarding the same are yet to surface. The corridor, which according to the company would showcase the possible use of optimum data speeds at 5G level, with help from new tech, would also include some inputs from an in-house testing centre that BSNL stated it would set up. At some point, BSNL also said it directly move to 5G by skipping 4G technology altogether. |
