Reliance Jio Revenue Market Share Increased, Airtel and Vi See Negative Trend: Analysts

reliance-jio-revenue-market-share-increased

With the highest number of subscribers, Reliance Jio remains the king of the telecom market in India. The telco witnessed growth in revenue market share (RMS) as compared to its previous quarter. At the same time, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) saw a decline in their RMS QoQ. This means that the telcos apart from Jio need more subscribers opting for the higher-tariff plans to help expand their revenue. According to a report from Axis Capital, Reliance Jio was the only operator in the country, which saw a growth in RMS in the Q3 FY21.

Jio Leads the RMS Chart Amongst all the Operators in the Country

Reliance Jio had the highest RMS amongst all the operators in the country, which increased from 38.3% in the previous quarter to 39.3% in the October-December quarter in 2020. Bharti Airtel took the second place with 31.3% RMS, which was a drop from the 31.6% from the previous quarter.

Vi's RMS dipped from 20.9% in the previous quarter to 20.8% in the October-December quarter, which is not a healthy sign, says Emkay. The telco had reduced its customer loss rate in the third quarter, reporting a subscriber loss of 2 million in the quarter against the 8 million during the previous one.

BSNL's RMS also took a downfall from 7.2% in the previous quarter to 6.8% in the October-December quarter.

In terms of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) market share, Jio was the leader in 19 out of 22 circles of India, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). Airtel and Vi lead in 2 and 1 circles, respectively.

For increasing their RMS, telcos need more customers to opt for their higher-priced plans and are likely to delay in introducing tariff hikes. If Airtel keeps on adding new subscribers at the same rate, it might catch up with Jio very soon.

Airtel Added More Subscribers than Jio Due to Better Network Quality: Opensignal

airtel-added-more-subscribers-jio

Bharti Airtel has been gaining pace at adding new subscribers and might be making Reliance Jio nervous with its performance in the last few months. The analysts at Opensignal, a global mobile analytics company, believe that the reason behind such a stellar growth for Airtel is providing a better network experience to its users. The price difference between the plans from both the telcos has become negligible. Jio's strength was its cheaper offerings. But since the time Jio hiked tariffs and came closer to Airtel's pricing, it seems like users prefer Airtel over Jio.

Airtel Gained Highest Proportion of Users in 2020

While Reliance Jio is still the number one telecom operator of the country, Bharti Airtel gained the highest proportion of users in 2020. Both the telcos were gaining new subscribers at a similar pace until August 2020, but from September 2020, Jio's curve for new subscribers almost flattened and went on a declining trend from mid-November.

At the same time, Airtel's curve for new subscriber additions kept going up throughout the end of the year. While both Jio and Airtel were adding new subscribers, Vodafone Idea (Vi) kept losing subscribers and added very few new users.

After the telcos hiked the tariffs in 2019, the analysts found that users dropped from a particular network because of poor network quality. Across all the private operators (Jio, Airtel, and Vi), users who ported to other networks were spending 74% to 155% more time without being connected to a mobile signal compared to the average scores on the respective networks.

Thus report from Opensignal indicates that most of the users who were porting to other networks had an issue with the network quality they were getting with their operator. Reliance Jio needs to enhance its network quality as fast as possible to keep leading the mobile telecom market in India.

pubg-new-state-to-launch-soon

'PUBG: New State' is what people have been referring to when they were talking about PUBG Mobile 2. Krafton Inc is developing the game for both Android and iOS devices. The company sent out a tweet saying that 'PUBG: New State' is being developed by Krafton and PUBG Studios (the original battle royale creators). PUBG Mobile was banned in India last year along with several other applications by the government because of their Chinese roots. Since the new game won't have any Chinese connections, it might be released in India as well.

PUBG: New State Game Details

The official trailer for 'PUBG: New State' was released today, and it gives a sneak peek into what users can expect from the game. The game is being set up in the year 2051 and will feature advanced weapons and machinery.

A drone can be seen flying in the trailer, which suggests that users will get a 'drone' to fly and sneak on their enemies just like they did in the 'Vikendi' map of PUBG Mobile.

The pre-registration for the PC version of the game are already live. There is no confirmed release date yet, but whomsoever pre-registers will get a limited vehicle skin. The company is yet to start pre-registration for the mobile version of the game.

The PUBG: New State is expected to use a new game engine – Unreal Engine 4, but again, nothing is confirmed for now.

There is one thing for sure, the trailer of the new game is sick, and there is a strong possibility of it coming to India at the same time it is released globally.

The game will feature a brand new map, new vehicles and bring much more to the table. PUBG: New State should feel familiar to all the users who were fans of the PUBG Mobile.

Telegram Gains Auto Delete Messages, Broadcast Groups and More Features

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/telegram-auto-delete-broadcast-groups/337696/, Telegram Gains Auto Delete Messages, Broadcast Groups and More Features

In a bid to take on Facebook-owned WhatsApp, Telegram is rolling out a slew of new features. The first major feature gained by Telegram is auto delete messages which was added to WhatsApp as disappearing messages feature a couple of months ago. Telegram used to offer this feature on Secret Chats, but it is now enhanced with timer functionality. Telegram also added the ‘Broadcast Groups’ feature where participants can connect with a live voice chat. The instant messaging platform also brought an improved reporting system, home screen widgets on Android & iOS and it also improved the chat import feature. Telegram also improved the spam reporting system on its platform. Read on to know more about the new features added to Telegram.

Telegram Auto Delete Messages Feature: Here’s How It Works

Telegram has been offering Auto Delete Messages feature for a long time now, but it was limited to Secret Chats only. After the latest update, Telegram users can now set a timer of 24 hours or seven days in any chats before sending messages. After the selected timeframe, the messages will be disappeared for all the users in a Group or Channel or direct chat.

Only admins will be able to enable this feature or edit in a group or channel. All the messages show a countdown of deletion time. Users can also track the time to specific messages by simply tap on Android or press and hold on iOS. Telegram says the auto-delete messages only apply to messages sent after the timer is set.

Other Features Introduced to Telegram

Moving on, Telegram has introduced a new form of Group called Broadcast Groups. In such groups, only admins will be able to send messages, but all the participants in the group can join the live voice chat for discussions via audio. Unlike normal Telegram groups which support up to 2,00,000 members, Broadcast Groups are ideal for even large communities. Did it remind Clubhouse? Well, it is similar to that except for the fact that you will be in a group forever.

Telegram also rolled out an ‘Improved Reporting System.’ Users can now report any spam content, fake accounts, any content related to violence, child abuse, pornography, etc.

The next feature added to Telegram is ‘Expiring Invite Links.’ As the name of the feature itself suggests, group admins can now create additional links to share with limited duration and number or uses or both. There’s also a new scannable QR codes functionality. Telegram says any invite link can also be converted to a scannable QR code. This allows admins to track from what sources more number of users are joining the group.

Lastly, Telegram users can now add widgets on their home screen. Telegram supports two types of widgets- Chat Widget and Shortcut Widget. The Chat Widget shows a preview of recent messages, while the Shortcut Widget shows only names and profile pictures. On Android, the chats and messages in the widgets will always up to date with further expansion options, whereas on iOS, it will be on an occasional basis.
