Xiaomi has started teasing the Redmi Note 10 series launch in India, in-line with the tradition. The Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max were launched in March 2019 right before India went into lockdown. Later on, the company launched the standard Redmi Note 9 followed by a slew of other phones in Redmi 9 series. The Redmi Note 10 series announcement was made on Twitter by Manu Kumar Jain, the MD at Xiaomi India. The teaser video did not reveal anything about the series, but the teaser video’s description on the microblogging website confirmed the presence of high refresh rate screen. It was high-time for Xiaomi and Redmi to launch a mid-range phone with a high refresh rate screen to tackle Realme, and it is happening now. Redmi Note 10 Series Launch Date to Be Announced TomorrowManu Kumar Jain, in his teaser video, confirmed the Redmi Note 10 series India launch date will be revealed tomorrow (February 10) at 10 AM. As you can see, the announcement revolves around the number ’10,’ so we can expect the next-generation Redmi Note devices are coming later this month. Unlike the Redmi Note 9 series, the Redmi Note 10 series might come in just two variants- the standard Redmi Note 10 and the Redmi Note 10 Pro. That said, the Note 10 Pro could have a 5G model, but nothing is confirmed officially. The Redmi Note 10 Pro will be very much identical to the Poco X3 with a similar design as the latter and Snapdragon 732G underneath. We are expecting Xiaomi to include a 120Hz LCD screen on the Note 10 Pro and a 90Hz LCD screen on the Redmi Note 10. Xiaomi might make use of Snapdragon 690 5G or any other mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 5G SoC on the 5G variant of Redmi Note 10 Pro. The Chinese company recently said it sold a whopping 200 million Redmi Note devices around the world and would be hoping the Redmi Note 10 devices to carry the legacy forward. |

With more than 400 million subscribers, Reliance Jio is the leading telecom operator in India. The telco is touching new heights every year and provides a plethora of services to its customers. For calling, Jio allows users to set a caller tune with 'JioTunes' service. But after a point, it can become exhaustive, old, or just boring. So if you want to deactivate or stop JioTunes service by yourself, you can do it in three easy methods. These three methods are – a) SMS, b) using 'MyJio' app, and c) IVR. Steps for Stopping JioTunes ServicesLet's start with the first step mentioned above, which is 'SMS'. There are two numbers you can send an SMS on. The first number is '56789'. You can send 'Stop' to 56789 and follow the process to stop your JioTunes subscription. Another number is '155223' on which you can send 'Stop' and decide whether you want to stop the JioTunes subscription or the Tone subscription. Coming to the second method, you can use the 'MyJio' app for stopping your JioTunes service. Download the app if you don't have it already. Then log-in with your Jio number. Once logged in, go to the 'My Subscriptions' page; then tap on the 'Deactivate JioTune' option present at the bottom of the screen. You will be asked to confirm your move, tap on the 'Yes' button and you will get a pop-up once the service has been deactivated successfully. The third method for deactivating your JioTunes service is using the 'IVR' method. Go to your mobile's keypad and dial '155223' and follow the IVR to select the appropriate options for deactivating your JioTunes service. Once the service is successfully deactivated, you will get an SMS for the same on your device. These are the three methods which you can follow to deactivate the JioTunes service whenever you want. |

Speedtest Users Can Now Measure Streaming ExperienceAccording to the company, the video test feature is said to be available to users on the Speedtest app for iOS with the feature said to be soon arriving on "more platforms." "While network speed certainly impacts your video experience, providers routinely prioritize video traffic differently than other traffic," Ookla said in a release on Monday. The company said that the video testing feature on the Speedtest app "plays an actual video to specifically measure the performance of video streaming" on the user's network at any point of time. "An accurate video measurement requires an actual video to be played, because video traffic cannot be simulated across a network," Ookla said. Video Testing Aids Users to Pick "Good Time" to Watch VideosThe company said that the video content available for streaming are "typically delivered" through "adaptive bitrate technology" that is said to adjust the video quality on network conditions. "A video test measures this adaptive bitrate to tell you the maximum resolution, load time and buffer you should be able to expect given current network conditions," Ookla said. The interest testing, data and analysis company said that the video test feature will let users know the devices that "work best" at that particular instant of time. "It's a great way to assess whether now is a good time to settle in for that video you've been waiting for or if you'll be stuck buffering for the duration," Ookla said. "This can help you decide whether to try to stream on your largest TV or if you should use your phone instead." |

Over the last month, many users have shifted to chatting and texting apps such as Signal and Telegram. One of the more reputable and old texting applications, 'Telegram' saw a whirlpool of users coming to its platform leaving WhatsApp. It has some great interactive features for texting which enhance the way users communicate with each other. If you are worried about privacy and security on Telegram, we are here to help you get rid of that worry. We will tell you how you can keep your chats on Telegram safe with fingerprint lock or passcode. How to Set a Passcode on Telegram?First of all, open the application. You will notice a three-line menu on the top left, tap on it. After that, select 'Settings' and tap on 'Privacy and Security'. Under the 'Security', tap on the 'Passcode Lock', and you will be asked to enter a four-digit passcode. Enter the passcode twice to save it. Your telegram passcode will be active. How to Set Fingerprint Lock on Telegram?Once you have set up the passcode, whenever you try to open the app, you will also see an option of unlocking the app with your fingerprint. You can also disable the feature if you don't want it. Do note that the fingerprint option will only come if you have entered fingerprint data for unlocking the device under the device settings itself. It will use the same biometric data entered into the system of your device in the first place. For further safety of your chat data, you can also set an 'auto-lock' timer. By default, Telegram auto-locks the application after 1 hour. But that is too long a time, to change that, go to the 'Auto-Lock' option from the settings of the application, and you can keep the timer anywhere between 1 minute to 1.45 hours. You can also disable the feature from here. |
| 5G Trials in Limited Area and Time to Start in Next 2 to 3 Months: DoT Posted: 09 Feb 2021 12:45 AM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/5g-trials-limited-area-time-start-months-dot/334581/, 5G Trials in Limited Area and Time to Start in Next 2 to 3 Months: DoT
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has informed the parliamentary panel on IT that 5G trials will start in two to three months. The telecom department has already received 16 applications for 5G field trials using both indigenous and imported technologies. However, the panel is not happy with how the telecom department has gone about the 5G business. According to an ET Telecom report, the panel said that what has happened is in complete contradiction from what DoT had informed the committee during the examination of Demands for Grants in February 2020 — more details on the story ahead. Parliamentary Panel asks DoT Why 5G Trials Haven't Been Allowed Until NowThe panel has asked DoT why it hasn’t allowed any 5G trials to occur until now when there were no major issues surrounding it in the country. The panel noted that the telecom service providers (TSPs) had submitted their applications for conducting 5G trials in January 2020, yet, there has been a huge delay, and it hasn't happened until now. The committee said that if there are any more delays in the testing of 5G, it will further lead to delays in its launch. However, the telecom department is said to be working with different departments and ministries to set up India’s specific 5G use case labs. DoT has also approved for the development of 5G use case labs in the financial sector. The report from the parliamentary panel has revealed that DoT will allow 5G trials to take place in the next two to three months. It will allow the trials to take place in a limited area and time to test the India specific 5G use cases. The spectrum auction for the 5G airwaves in the 3300-3600 MHz is still going to take a bit of time, so the rollout of 5G services is not expected until late 2021 or early 2022. |
| DoT’s Inefficiency Leads to Delay in Bharatnet and LWE Project: Report Posted: 08 Feb 2021 11:45 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/dots-inefficiency-leads-delay-bharatnet-lwe-project/334572/, DoT's Inefficiency Leads to Delay in Bharatnet and LWE Project: Report
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has delayed a lot on preparing a cabinet note for the approval of the rural broadband project of the government 'Bharatnet' even after getting approval from the Digital Communication Commission (DCC) a year back. The Bharatnet project was meant to cover all 2.5 lakh village panchayats with broadband networks and should have been completed by March 2019. Almost two years later, the government has only been able to connect up to 1.8 lakh village panchayats, and the reason behind that is the inefficiency of DoT — more details on the story ahead. DoT Questioned by Parliamentary Panel for Delay in Bharatnet Cabinet Note and LWE ProjectAccording to an ET Telecom report, DoT has been questioned by the Parliamentary Panel on IT, led by Shashi Tharoor for the delays in preparing Bharatnet cabinet note and LWE project. After the DCC's approval last year, DoT only had to get the cabinet approval for going ahead with the project. But the cabinet note is still under 'preparation' which has been termed disappointing from the panel. The panel further said that under the current scenario, it seems unlikely that the government will achieve its target of connecting 2.5 lakh villages with broadband by August 2021. The panel also questioned DoT about delays on the Left Wing Extremist (LWE) project. The committee learned that the phase-1 of the LWE project had been successfully implemented with setting up of around 2,345 towers. But the phase-2 for setting up of towers 2,217 locations with an estimated budget of Rs 3,214.65 crore hasn't been allocated to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) yet because the telco is not in a good financial position. In its response, the committee has strongly suggested that DoT should make sincere efforts to allocate the project for LWE phase-2 to BSNL only. It is worth noting that DoT had filed a Special Leave Petition (SPL) to take away the project from BSNL while allowing Airtel to work under the same tender which is very unfair towards the state-run-telco. The parliamentary panel has asked for reasons behind this move from the DoT. |
| Reliance Jio Expanding 4G in Kerala, Everything to Know Posted: 08 Feb 2021 10:44 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/reliance-jio-expanding-4g-in-kerala/334567/, Reliance Jio Expanding 4G in Kerala, Everything to Know
Reliance Jio, India's number one telecom operator, is expanding its 4G in Kerala. The telco has decided to increase its 4G power by up to 15% in the state this year to offer seamless connectivity services to its users. The demand for 4G services has risen quite significantly in the state’s tier-2 towns and villages. For the unaware, Jio is the biggest network in Kerala at present with over 12,000 true 4G network sites. It will further increase this to provide even better quality services to its users — more details on the story ahead. Reliance Jio Expanding 4G in Kerala to Meet Higher DemandAccording to a report from Mathrubhumi, Jio has more than 1 crore (10 million) users living in the state, and the demand for better connectivity and the number of users is increasing as days pass by. Thus to meet the extra demand, Jio will expand its 4G by 15% in 2021 at Kerala. Since more and more people are working and learning from their homes, it makes sense that people need seamless connectivity to do their tasks. Even in rural areas, because of the pandemic, people couldn't step out of their homes which increased the need for connectivity in those areas. According to the report, data consumption has increased by 35% since April 2020. People don't step out of their homes much; they rely on over-the-top (OTT) content or online gaming for entertaining themselves. For all of this, a true 4G network with less latency is required. It is worth noting that Jio has already installed around 30 towers for increasing the range of connectivity in Kerala looking at the requests people were making. Jio has been able to keep people connected during the pandemic resulting in its visitor location register (VLR) increasing by 72% post-pandemic. Thus in the year ahead, Jio users in Kerala are expected to get even better 4G services from the telco. |

| BSNL to Offer Double Data Benefit With Rs 109 Prepaid Plan Till March 31 Posted: 08 Feb 2021 05:31 PM PST This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-rs109-mithram-plus-plan-revised/334521/, BSNL to Offer Double Data Benefit With Rs 109 Prepaid Plan Till March 31
State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) continues the revision spree by doubling the data benefit offered by Rs 109 prepaid recharge. Also known as Mithram Plus prepaid plan, the Rs 109 plan from BSNL is a validity extension recharge for the users looking to keep their BSNL prepaid number active. The plan was first introduced in December 2019; So far, it is offering 5GB of data and unlimited calling benefit with 20 days validity. After this new revision, the plan will offer 10GB of data. But do make a note that it is a limited period offer valid till March 31, 2021. In fact, BSNL is said to be removing the Mithram Plus plan altogether on April 1, forcing customers to opt for other plans like PV 106 or PV 107. BSNL Rs 109 Mithram Plus Prepaid Recharge RevisedThe Rs 109 Mithram Plus prepaid plan from BSNL offers unlimited voice calling without any FUP limit for 20 days along with 10GB of data. The USP of the plan, however, is the validity of 75 days. It comes in handy for the customers who just want to keep their BSNL prepaid number active. The revision will be valid till March 31, 2021. TelecomTalk independently verified the revision of Rs 109 Mithram Plus plan and the latest revision is already live in Kerala circle. Kerala Telecom reports that BSNL is removing the Rs 109 recharge on April 1 for some unknown reason. To recall, the plan was introduced back in December 2019 with benefits of 250 minutes per day, 5GB of data and 90 days of validity extension benefit. Later on, the validity was reduced to 30 days. After the removal of Mithram Plus prepaid plan, BSNL users relying on this recharge can choose other plans in the similar price range mentioned below. It is unknown why BSNL is removing the Rs 109 Mithram Plus plan. Maybe, BSNL wants its customers to recharge the PV 106 or PV 107. The PV 106 comes with 3GB of free data, 100 minutes of free voice calls, free BSNL Tunes subscription for 60 days, and 100 days of validity. The PV 106/PV 107 apply only to the plan validity extension users. The BSNL Mithram Plus is one of the popular recharges in the telco’s prepaid portfolio, but sadly, it is being removed. For the unaware, the BSNL Mithram Plus plan at Rs 109 is available only in Kerala telecom circle. |
