PUBG Mobile Might Return to India, Company Hiring Locals

Posted: 19 Mar 2021 05:46 AM PDT

pubg-mobile-might-return-india

PUBG Corporation, the original creator of PUBG Mobile, is looking to hire locals from India for their Bengaluru office. The demand is for an Investment and Strategy Analyst position. PUBG Corporation has posted the job on LinkedIn yesterday and is looking for a person who could fill the position and add support for the senior team in mergers and acquisitions.

According to a Gadgets360 report, the job is for a full-time position, and the person will have to fulfil the above-mentioned duties along with some other tasks.

The job post mentions that the selected person will have to help the company in creating a key corporate strategic planning process for its business. Further, the candidate must have experience of at least three years in consulting and a good knowledge of the IT and gaming sector.

Will PUBG Mobile Return to India?

While PUBG Corporation is looking to hire Indian locals, it doesn't confirm whether PUBG Mobile will ever come back. The company might just need the expertise of an Indian local on expanding business.

But it does give a little sense of security to the PUBG Mobile fans in India. The app was banned last year, along with several other Chinese applications.

Tencent Holdings later detached itself from the PUBG Mobile India version of the game; however, the government wasn't benevolent towards it and restricted the relaunch.

In recent developments, PUBG Corporation has been working with Krafton to launch a new battle royale game called PUBG: New State. Pre-registrations for the game has already started but whether it will come to India or not is unclear.

Even though the game has been banned in India, millions of Indians continue to play PUBG Mobile on their smartphones by downloading its global version APK file with the help of a VPN on their network.

Hopefully, for all the PUBG Mobile lovers, the game makes it back to India officially soon.

Bharti Airtel Displays Absolute Dominance, Analysts Hail Execution

ICICI Securities, a subsidiary of ICICI Bank on Wednesday said in a report that the execution by Bharti Airtel has been "impressive" as Airtel continued to add more users as compared to its rivals. The report is on the heels of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) releasing the Telecom Subscription Data for a period ending January 31, 2021. The Trai data highlights that Airtel added over 58 lakh new users in January while Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea roped in over 19 lakh and 17 lakh new users in the month. The state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is said to have added over 80,000 new users in January with the industry wide gross subscriber additions said to have crossed over 96 lakhs.

Analyst Says Vodafone Idea Shows Signs of Stability

Reliance Jio is now said to have a 35.30% market share as of January 31, 2021, while the market share of Airtel and Vodafone Idea hit 29.62%and 24.58% respectively. The Trai data highlights that the telecom industry witnessed the net addition of over 30 lakh new active users in January with Airtel roping in 65 lakh new active users. However, Reliance Jio is said to have lost over 33 lakh active users in January while Vodafone Idea active subscriber base is said to have dipped by 260,000.

In its report, ICICI Securities said that the dip in the Reliance Jio active subscriber base "explains its renewed aggression to push JioPhone." The largest wireless operator in India in late February announced a "New JioPhone 2021 Offer" that enables users to purchase a JioPhone device with "unlimited" voice and data for a period of one or two years. The "New JioPhone 2021 Offer" is said to carry a price tag of Rs 1999 for the two year plan while the annual plan is said to be priced at Rs 1499. JioPhone is said to have over 10 crore users with the operator now said to be targeting the 30 crore feature phone subscriber with its 2021 offer.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services on Wednesday said in a report that the Jio "continued to disappoint" with its subscriber additions.

Meanwhile, ICICI Securities said that Vodafone Idea "fared well" in January with the firm highlighting that the decline in its active subscriber base has "significantly decelerated." Similarly, Motilal Oswal said that Vodafone Idea numbers for January reflected the "bottoming out of the subscriber churn."

Ravinder Takkar, Vodafone Idea CEO in the third quarter earnings call in February, 2021, said that the operator's "engagement" with its users improved "significantly" post the Vi brand launch in September, 2020.

"Since our brand launch in September, Vi has started to gain momentum and traction in the market, not only we brought this unified brand, but overall, you would see the gross additions in the market are improving," Takkar said in the third quarter earnings call.

The CEO of Vodafone Idea said that the operator has been witnessing the growth in its 4G user base and that its net additions have turned "more stable."

"I think we are seeing a very positive trend on subscribers in all metrics, whether it’s gross or reduction in churn and net additions," Takkar said. "And so overall, we see a lot of positive momentum that is starting to take place."

Growth in Airtel Active User Base Indicates Quality Additions

While it remains to be seen as to whether Vodafone Idea can continue to build on its positive momentum in the upcoming months, analysts however are positive on the performance of Airtel.

ICICI Securities said that the increase in the active user base of Airtel was largely driven by the total subscriber net additions "indicating the improving quality" of the overall subscriber additions.

It has to be noted that the Trai data highlights Airtel now has 33.57 crore active subscribers as of January 31, 2020. The key rivals of Airtel including Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea are said to have 32.45 crore and 25.63 crore subscribers respectively.

"Bharti [Airtel] continued its healthy streak, outpacing peers since the past seven months," Motilal Oswal said in its report. "The quality of subscriber additions is reflected in its strong 5.5m 4G additions."

The second largest wireless operator in India is said to have added 2.9 crore active subscribers since May, 2020.

Vodafone Idea Customers Can Recharge Through WhatsApp Now

Posted: 19 Mar 2021 01:05 AM PDT

Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest telecom operator in the country, keeps on introducing industry-first innovations and technologies. Now, the company has announced that its customers can recharge their numbers directly through WhatsApp.

This will allow users to conveniently recharge their numbers without opening different applications for the same. For enabling users to recharge with this convenience, the telco is leveraging its virtual agent VIC.

Vi users will be able to subscribe to any prepaid pack in just two clicks via WhatsApp. It is worth noting that none of the other operators offers such convenience to their users at the moment.

Vi Postpaid and Prepaid Customers Can Now Make Payments Via WhatsApp

According to a release from Vi, the company has gone ahead with such a move to make its customer's life easier, faster, and simpler.

Both postpaid and prepaid customers of the telco will be able to make payments and subscribe directly through WhatsApp. Vi said this personalised payments service would work across "all payment gateways".

It is worth noting that last year, Vi became the first operator in the country to launch a service chatbot for its users on WhatsApp. The chatbot was named VIC.

VIC is an AI-powered virtual assistant that helps users of the telco to get fast responses and now will also allow them to pay and subscribe to the new plans.

Whenever the users want to make payments via VIC, they will receive a link for the gateway via an SMS. Further, users can also send an SMS to 96542-97000 (VIC) number for getting the link.

All these features and conveniences have still been unable to put Vi in a strong position in India. The operator is losing money and subscribers every quarter that goes by. However, with the introduction of tariff hikes, its average revenue per user (ARPU) might grow and improve revenues for the company.

E-Bikes Manufacturer ‘Specialized’ Partners Tesla Co-Founder to Recycle Batteries

Posted: 19 Mar 2021 12:20 AM PDT

e-bikes-manufacturer-specialized

Specialized is the third-largest e-bike manufacturer in the US in terms of market share. The company is teaming up with Redwood Materials to recycle its e-bike batteries once they run out of juice. For the unaware, Jeffery 'JB' Straubel, co-founder of Tesla, runs Redwood Materials.

Both companies are working together to figure out the best way of recycling e-bike batteries. These batteries are attached to the down-tube of the e-bike, which helps with activating the motor when the pedal is pushed.

According to a report from The Verge, Chris Yu, chief product officer at Specialized, e-bikes can last a lifetime, but the batteries run out. It is a big concern for the company to understand what needs to be done with the batteries. Empty batteries can't simply be dumped since that would add to the existing environmental issues.

Redwood Materials Different From Other Recycling Companies

Under the partnership, Redwood Materials will get the batteries from Specialized through the company's retail partners across the US.

All the recovered material will be shipped to Redwood's Nevada facility. Then Redwood will analyse how much of the battery is reusable and begin a chemical recycling process to recover reusable elements such as copper, cobalt, and nickel.

All the reusable elements then can be put again into the battery making process. Straubel said that there isn't a lot in a used battery that can be recovered. Even so, Redwood is making every effort possible to minimise the damage that these batteries can do to the environment.

Specialized said that each of its e-bike batteries would find a pathway to Redwood's recycling facility by the end of 2021.

Usually, companies send raw materials to developing nations that don't have the required infrastructure to safely process, creating more issues for the environment.

But according to Straubel, Redwood is different from other recycling companies. Redwood completely recycles domestically and will offer maximum transparency to the citizens and the authorities of the US.

OnePlus 9 Pro Charges to 100% in 43 minutes With Wireless Charger

Posted: 18 Mar 2021 10:13 PM PDT

OnePlus 9 Pro Full Charge Time Confirmed

With every passing day, OnePlus is revealing the key features of its upcoming flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 9 Pro. The OnePlus 9 Series is all set to go official on March 23. In India, the Chinese company will be launching three phones- the OnePlus 9, the OnePlus 9 Pro and the OnePlus 9R. Since the OnePlus 9 Pro will be its top-tier smartphone, the company is packing in all the high-end hardware. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took to Twitter and announced the charging times (both wired and wireless) to 100% on the OnePlus 9 Pro. According to the CEO, the OnePlus 9 Pro will go to 100% in just 29 minutes with a wired charger, whereas the same for wireless charging is 43 minutes. That said, Lau might be talking about the time taken by the phone to reach from 0% to 100%. The OnePlus 9 Pro will feature a 4500mAh battery.

OnePlus 9 Pro Charging Time Confirmed Ahead of Launch

Going by the rumours, the OnePlus 9 Pro will arrive with 65W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. The company is also expected to launch a 50W wireless charger similar to the OnePlus Warp Charge 30 Wireless Charger it launched last year. The 30W wireless charger from the company was priced at Rs 3,990 in India, so the price for 50W charger could be around Rs 5,990.

The OnePlus 8T was the first OnePlus phone to feature 65W wired fast charging. The phone charges from 0% to 100% in just 39 minutes. The OnePlus 9 Pro’s 4500mAh battery will be charged in just 29 minutes. So it looks like OnePlus is enhancing the 65W charging technology, or maybe the phone will feature even faster charging tech.

OnePlus is also adding fast wireless charging support to the OnePlus 9 Pro, probably of 50W that’s capable of charging the device to 100% in just 43 minutes. OnePlus was the first brand to include fast charging support on its phones back in 2016 and 2017, but the company lost momentum in between. Other Chinese smartphone brands like Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi constantly outperformed OnePlus by offering faster charging technology on their phones. For example, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra launched last year offered 120W fast charging support.

It is good to see OnePlus stepping up the game in the charging speeds. The OnePlus 9, on the other hand, is also expected to come with 65W fast charging and 30W wireless charging.

Telcos Make Upfront Payment for Spectrum Auction 2021

Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have submitted their upfront payments to DoT for the spectrum purchased earlier this month. As part of the official terms and conditions, the telcos purchasing spectrum will be required to pay a 50% or 25% upfront fee, depending on the band. The DoT is required to collect a 25% upfront fee for the spectrum purchased in 700 MHz, 800 MHz and 900 MHz bands, and the same for spectrum purchased in 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz and 2500 MHz bands will be 50%. According to ET Telecom, Reliance Jio paid Rs 15,019.84 crore towards the upfront fee, followed by Bharti Airtel and Vi with Rs 6,323.98 crore and Rs 574.65 crore payments.

At the Spectrum Auction 2021, Reliance Jio purchased the maximum spectrum in 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2300 MHz bands for Rs 57,123 crore. The DoT sold airwaves worth Rs 77,814 crore in the auction, with Jio being the aggressive buyer. Airtel is second to Jio as it purchased spectrum worth Rs 18,699 crore in five bands- 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2300 MHz. As noted, Airtel paid Rs 6,323.98 crore to the DoT, and Vi paid Rs 574.65 crore for the spectrum it purchased in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands.

Right after the spectrum auction, the DoT sent notices to telecom operators asking to pay the upfront fee immediately. And all the three telcos who participated in the auction paid the respective amounts. The remaining amount can be paid by the operators over 16 annual instalments. Successful buyers of the spectrum will be presented with the option of making the payment at one go or pay either a 25% or 50% upfront fee with the remaining amount through 16 annual instalments.

Operators will receive the purchased spectrum in the coming weeks. With the spectrum in 800 MHz and 900 MHz bands, telcos can boost indoor coverage, whereas the spectrum over 2300 MHz can be used to meet the growing demand for telecom services.

BSNL YuppTV Scope Subscription Costs Rs 199 per Month After Introductory Offer

Posted: 18 Mar 2021 06:44 PM PDT

BSNL YuppTV Scope Subscription Price

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) partnered with YuppTV last month for a new service called ‘YuppTV Scope.’ Available exclusively to BSNL Broadband users, YuppTV Scope bundles services from various OTT services into a single package. As of this writing, YuppTV Scope offers content from four OTT services- ZEE5 Premium, YuppTV, SonyLIV and Voot Select. BSNL Broadband users can purchase the only available YuppTV Scope package at just Rs 129. Now, this is really interesting as the subscriptions, if chosen individually, cost over Rs 250 per month. The Rs 129 price from BSNL is part of the introductory offer valid for the first three months only. After three months, users will be able to subscribe to the YuppTV Scope at Rs 199 per month. Continue reading to know more about YuppTV Scope subscription for BSNL Broadband customers.

BSNL-YuppTV Scope Subscription Offer Detailed

As noted, YuppTV Scope is a content aggregator app that bundles OTT content from four popular services available today which are ZEE5 Premium, SonyLIV, Voot Select and YuppTV. BSNL introduced the service exclusively to its broadband customers in collaboration with YuppTV. For the unaware, YuppTV offers Live TV channels, but for a monthly price. With YuppTV Scope, customers can also watch Live TV channels because the basic YuppTV subscription is also bundled. Together with the OTT apps mentioned above, YuppTV Scope will allow customers to watch more than 300 Live TV channels.

Right now, YuppTV Scope has just one plan priced at Rs 199 per month. However, existing and new BSNL Broadband users can avail an introductory offer valid for the first three months. It brings down the monthly subscription to Rs 129 from Rs 199.

ZEE5 Premium, SonyLIV and Voot Select cost Rs 99 per month, whereas YuppTV subscription is available at Rs 49 per month. The monthly subscription price, if chosen individually, will be Rs 346. And at Rs 129, it is a complete bargain, to say the least. Even at Rs 199, it is a good deal considering YuppTV is offering more than 300 Live TV channels. In addition, the standard YuppTV subscription can also be purchased by users in other countries like Canada, United States and so on.

BSNL has broadband plans with Disney+ Hotstar Premium subscription, but apart from that, the ISP is not offering any other OTT subscriptions which is underwhelming. That said, BSNL customers can purchase YuppTV Scope monthly membership and watch all the content in one place. Other ISPs like JioFiber, Airtel Xstream Fiber and so on are bundling a lot of OTT plans at no extra cost.
