| Vodafone Idea Should Delay Tariff Hikes For As Long As Possible Posted: 21 Mar 2021 07:30 AM PDT
Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest, or rather, the poorest performer amongst all the private operators in the country, should delay introducing tariff hikes for as long as possible. Vi hasn't seen good days since the month of October in 2019. That was the last time the telco displayed a net gain in addition of mobile subscribers. We are not counting the latest report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) for the month of January. This is because Vi said that it had made an "inadvertent error" in providing the number of subscribers it gained to Trai for the month. Had it been the correct numbers, it would have meant that after more than a year, Vi showed a net gain in the addition of mobile subscribers in a month. What should the telco do right now to stay afloat and compete with Airtel and Jio? Let's find out. Vi Should Delay Tariff HikesAssuming that even though the numbers submitted to Trai were wrong, it wouldn't have been too off the mark. Thus, Vi might have added a good number of subscribers none the less. Regardless of that, Vi should delay tariff hikes. The telco requires more market share. A larger market share will mean improved revenues for the company. This is important for Vi to target. If it increases tariffs, it will lose more market share. Yes, the increased tariffs will help the telco in improving its average revenue per user (ARPU); still, it wouldn't be worth it. Because higher ARPU with a less number of subscribers will only keep the company where it is now. The aim of the telco should be to increase both the market share and ARPU. To do that, Vi must delay tariff hikes for as long as possible. The telco has some very unique offerings in its portfolio. Thus it should be patient and keep offering amazing benefits at the price it is offering them right now. |
| Jio Has Slowed Down on Subscriber Addition, But Why Posted: 21 Mar 2021 03:30 AM PDT
Reliance Jio has slowed down on adding new subscribers. At the same time, Bharti Airtel has been adding more subscribers than Jio for consecutive months now. According to the Monthly Subscription report from Trai for January 2021, Jio added 1.9 million users in contrast to Airtel's 5.8 million users. Adding to this, Jio is also behind Airtel with respect to active users. Jio has 324.52 million active VLR customers, while Airtel has 335.77 million active VLR users. This trend of Airtel adding more subscribers than Jio has been going on for months. So how come Reliance Jio, the largest telco in India with the cheapest offerings, is falling behind Airtel? Let's find out. Jio's Network the Issue, Not PricingReliance Jio has the largest subscriber base in India. Even though it offers the cheapest 4G plans, it is falling behind Airtel. The issue has to be its network. Most of the customers today want a better network rather than saving a negligible amount of money. Because it is true, after the tariff hikes in 2019, the rates of Airtel's and Jio's offering came very close. Even though Airtel's offerings are slightly expensive than Jio's, the former provides a good quality network and a better speed than Jio in most regions of the country. But all that might change in the coming days. Jio acquired a ton of spectrum in the recently held auctions by spending close to Rs 60,000 crore. With the additional spectrum, the telco is expected to boost its network experience for the users. At the same time, Airtel's growth might diminish if it goes for tariff hikes later this year. The telco is aiming for a larger market share before it increases the tariffs. Airtel has been gaining grounds and capturing more market share every quarter that follows. Is Jio nervous about that? Well, it must be. That said, Jio is still far ahead of Airtel and can change things in a jiffy with a more premium network experience for the users. |
| Vodafone Idea Reportedly Sent Incorrect Subscriber Addition Number to Trai for January Posted: 20 Mar 2021 10:24 PM PDT
The Trai recently released the telecom subscription data for the month of January 2021. In the report, the sector regulator said struggling telco Vodafone Idea (Vi) managed to add 1.7 million new subscribers. As it turns out, Vi has reportedly confirmed to Financial Express that the numbers sent out to Trai for January are incorrect. The report says the telco plotted the data incorrectly for the UP West telecom circles. Vi sent out the correct numbers to Trai and an updated subscription data is expected to come out in the coming days. Everyone expected that Vi is slowly getting back on track after facing a tough time of close to three years. That said, the FE report did not reveal the official subscriber data sent out by Vi to Trai. Trai to Release Updated Subscription Data Report SoonVodafone Idea earlier reported to Trai that it added 3.7 million subscribers in UP West telecom circle alone. Out of the 22 telecom circles, Vodafone Idea lost subscribers in 18 circles, while gaining in four of them, with UP West leading the pack. The massive number of subscriber additions in UP West alone surprised a lot of analysts. Keeping the surprises in check, Vi has now reported that the numbers sent out to Trai are incorrect, and it has now corrected them. Trai is expected to release the updated subscription data in the coming days. At the end of December 2020, Vi had a subscriber base of 20.33 million in the UP West circle. And at the end of January 2021, the number increased to 24.08 million. Right after Trai releasing this report, everyone expected that Vi is coming back into the game steadily. But we will now have to wait for the updated report from Trai. Going by the current report, Vi has grabbed new subscribers after 15 months. The telco last added new customers in October 2019. Vi’s overall subscriber base stood at 284.2 million at the end of December 2020, with an ARPU of Rs 121, the lowest amongst the private telcos. The same Trai report said Airtel added the most number of subscribers at 5.8 million, followed by Reliance Jio with 1.9 million new users. |
| Spectra Offering Cheapest 1 Gbps Broadband Plan in India at Rs 2,499 Posted: 20 Mar 2021 06:32 PM PDT
1 Gbps broadband plans are being offered by several companies in India at the moment. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like JioFiber, Airtel Xstream Fiber, Connect Broadband, Tata Sky Broadband, ACT Fibernet, Spectra and so on, are providing broadband plans with speeds up to 1 Gbps. While the adoption for 1 Gbps plans is still low, it is good to see Indian companies offering such speeds. ACT Fibernet was the first to launch 1 Gbps broadband plan in Hyderabad back in 2017. But it was JioFiber that made the service popular in India. Spectra Broadband is one of the first companies to launch 1 Gbps plans in India. As per the latest development, Spectra has the cheapest 1 Gbps broadband plan in India, priced at just Rs 2,499. That said, Spectra is able to achieve the affordable price tag at the expense of the FUP limit. Continue reading to know more about Spectra’s 1 Gbps broadband plan in detail. Spectra 1 Gbps Broadband Plan at Rs 2,499: Everything You Need to KnowSpectra Broadband right now has three broadband plans on offer- Spectra Fastest, Spectra Faster and Spectra Fast, priced at Rs 2,499, Rs 1,599 and Rs 999, respectively. The Fastest plan offers 1 Gbps speeds, followed by the Faster plan with 500 Mbps speeds. The Spectra Fast plan allows users to browse the web at 250 Mbps speeds. Spectra is offering services in eight cities as of this writing- Gurugram, Noida, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Chennai and Pune. The availability of the 1 Gbps plan differs with every city. Talking about the 1 Gbps broadband plan in detail, it can be picked up in four billing options- one month, three months, six months and for one year. For one month, the base price of the plan is Rs 2,499, but customers will be required to Rs 6,129 if chosen the subscription for one month. Spectra will charge Rs 2,000 as a refundable security deposit, Rs 1,000 towards installation charges and 18% GST, which takes the overall price to Rs 6,129. With the monthly billing plan, users get just 1000GB of FUP limit. For three months, the charges will be Rs 12,026, again the Rs 2,000 security deposit, Rs 1,000 installation and 18% GST comes into the picture. This billing option also offers just 1000GB of data every month. The plan can also be subscribed in six months billing cycle priced at Rs 18,873. Thankfully, Spectra waives off the security deposit charges and also doubles the FUP limit to 2000GB per month with this option. But it is underwhelming that the company will charge Rs 1,000 towards installation charges. If you are looking for a broadband plan for a long-term subscription, then the 1 Gbps plan for one year will be a good choice. The overall price of the plan is Rs 36,566 (including 18% GST) and the best part is unlimited data benefit. As you can see, Spectra is offering the 1 Gbps plan with too many catches for one month. And the 1000GB FUP limit is on the extremely lower side. |
