| Excitel Broadband Offers 300 Mbps Plan at a Cost of Only Rs 499 Per Month Posted: 03 Mar 2021 03:00 AM PST
Excitel is one of the fastest-growing broadband companies in India. The fiber broadband company has been rapidly expanding its operations and is now offering services in over 15 cities of the country. The internet service provider (ISP) offers only three broadband plans with 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps, and 300 Mbps speed options. If you are looking for a high-speed plan at a low cost, Excitel is offering its 300 Mbps broadband plan for a mere cost of Rs 499 per month. Mentioned below are all the details of the plan. Excitel 300 Mbps PlanExcitel offers its 300 Mbps for a monthly cost of Rs 499 to the users when they purchase it for a validity of 12 months. So essentially, the user will have to shell out a total of Rs 5,988 (exclusive of taxes) at once. But it would still be a lot cheaper than purchasing the 300 Mbps plan by paying every month for 12 months. The standalone cost of the plan on a monthly basis is Rs 899. So by purchasing the plan for 12 months directly, users are saving Rs 400 per month, which equates to savings of Rs 4,800 in a year. Users can also get this plan for a validity of 6 months. The monthly cost for that would be Rs 600, which would equate to a one-time payment of Rs 3,600 (exclusive of taxes). Interestingly, Excitel offers the 300 Mbps plan with a validity of 9 months. The monthly cost for the 300 Mbps plan when bought for 9 months comes down to Rs 533 per month, which would equate to a one-time payment of Rs 4,797 (exclusive of taxes). Excitel truly offers very unique broadband plans. The company doesn't charge for installation but does take a security deposit of Rs 2,000 against the ONU devices. Adding to that, the 9 months subscription plan is only available for fresh users, meaning existing users can't enjoy its benefits. The 300 Mbps plan is also available with a validity of 3 months and 4 months for the users. With the 3 months plan, the monthly cost becomes Rs 752 (one-time payment of Rs 2,256), and with the 4 months plan, the monthly cost comes down to Rs 636 (one-time payment of Rs 2,544). It is worth noting that all the prices mentioned above are exclusive of taxes. The company recommends a dual-band fiber Wi-Fi router for anyone purchasing its broadband plans. |
| Low Broadband Speeds, Mobile First Makes Product Localizations Critical: Disney CEO Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:00 AM PST
Disney+ Hostar Ultimate Streaming Destination in Southeast Asia: Disney CEOChapek on Monday said that Disney+ Hotstar is the "ultimate streaming destination in Southeast Asia and in India" with the Walt Disney CEO also highlighting that Star is the "number one broadcaster" in India. "India’s one of the few markets in the world, where television viewing is actually up," Chapek said in the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecommunications Conference. "We’ve got the leading sports portfolio in India, which is, as you know, critically important there. It’s the exclusive home for cricket events and we’re really pleased with the way that business has unfolded in Southeast Asia and India." As of January 2, 2021, Disney+ is said to have roped in 94.9 million users across the world. In early December, 2020, McCarthy in the Walt Disney investor day conference said that the company expects to have between 230 million to 260 million paid Disney+ users by the end of fiscal 2024. The Walt Disney CFO said that Disney+ Hotstar could account between 30% to 40% of its total subscriber base by the end of fiscal 2024. Chapek on Monday said that the "programming investment in entertainment and sports" that the company is currently making will aid it to reach its guidance numbers. "At the same time, we realize this is a very unique market," Chapek said. "So we’ve got distribution partnerships, [Reliance] Jio in India, and Telkomsel in Indonesia but it doesn’t even end there because the product localizations are absolutely critical here, because there’s low broadband speeds and it’s a mobile first market." Disney+ Hotstar Programs "Very Specific in Various Markets"Reliance Jio in early June, 2020, announced that its prepaid users with select monthly, annual and data add-on packs will receive a one year complimentary Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscription for no additional cost. "In Asia-Pacific, we teamed with Jio, India's largest telecom network and the third largest mobile network operator in the world, serving nearly 400 million customers," Michael Paull, president of Disney+ and ESPN+ at the Walt Disney Company said in the investor day conference. "Together with Jio, we made it simple and convenient for prepaid mobile customers to access Disney+ Hotstar, helping drive rapid growth in India." Chapek on Monday said that the company is "doing a fairly decent job" in "being very specific in various markets" with respect to the programming content. "This is not a one size fits all and India certainly is sort of the, if you will, the shining example of the need to be unique and cater to that market," Chapek said. The company in December said that it will release around 10 Marvel series, 10 Star Wars series, 15 Disney live-action, animation and Pixar series directly on its Disney+ platform. Further, it was said that the company will be "adding something new to the service every week" including theatrical releases. In February, Motilal Oswal Financial Services in a report said that Disney+ Hotstar has 19 million paid users in India while Amazon Prime and Netflix have six million and three million paid users respectively. The firm also said that Zee5 and SonyLIV complete the top five with three million and two million paid users respectively. |
| Jio and Airtel Will Look to Gain Market Share Delaying Tariff Hikes: Analysts Posted: 03 Mar 2021 01:14 AM PST
Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel will look to gain more market share instead of hiking the tariffs after investing in the spectrum. Both the telcos want more subscribers, and that is why they have invested thousands of crores in purchasing spectrum. A statement from Mukesh Ambani saying that the spectrum bought will help Jio in catering to '300 million more subscribers' is a hint about it being focused on adding new subscribers. Thus, tariff hikes are fairly unlikely to be introduced by the telco in the short-term. The same goes for Bharti Airtel. Vodafone Idea Needs to Hike TariffsIn a note on Wednesday, BofA Securities said that Jio would be looking to add more subscribers to its portfolio, especially focusing on the 2G users of the country. The company further said that Bharti Airtel would also look to expand its subscriber base and delay the hike in tariffs. However, tariff hikes are imminent. That may not happen in the short-term, but in the medium term, both Jio and Airtel are going to increase tariffs. As for Vodafone Idea (Vi), the telco is in desperate need of tariff hikes, which might happen in the short-term. Investors of Vi will be focusing on the company's balance sheets more aggressively since the spectrum auction is over now. The tariff hikes are going to benefit Jio and Airtel immensely. A higher average revenue per user (ARPU) will be easily achievable for the industry once the tariff hikes kick in. The analysts at Credit Suisse said that Airtel would benefit from both the short-term or medium-term price hike. If the price hike comes at a later stage, it will keep on growing its user base at the cost of Vi, and if the price hike comes sooner, it will bump up its revenues. The tariff hikes from Vi are expected in the next quarter or the quarter after that, while Airtel and Jio might take a bit of time before going that route. |

| WhatsApp Testing Self-Destructing Photos Feature Like Instagram Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:14 PM PST
WhatsApp might soon introduce a new feature called 'self-destructing photos'. This feature is said to enhance the privacy provided by the application. The social media giant has recently received a lot of heat for its new privacy policies. It is worth noting that a 'self-destructing messages' feature is already out for the users of the application. But the 'self-destructing photos' will take a note from the 'Instagram Direct' and make it a very time-sensitive feature. WhatsApp Self-Destructing Photos, What to Expect?A tweet from WABetaInfo suggests that the concept of the feature will be the same as of 'Instagram Direct'. The new feature will work on both iOS and Android devices. The tweet said that 'self-destructing photos' can't be exported to the device from WhatsApp. However, the feature might be rolled out without 'screenshot detection' ability. Thus, even though the photo may be there for a fleeting moment, users can take screenshots and still be able to keep it on their devices. A screenshot shared of the feature by WABetaInfo suggests that if the user leaves an ongoing chat on which the self-destructing photo was shared, he/she won't be able to see it once they return.
The self-destructing messages feature of WhatsApp is close to being useless. The messages still stay on the chat for up to 7 days, and until then, users can screenshot the chat, export it, and save it on local drives. The 'self-destructing photos' feature will be introduced soon, but just how soon is not confirmed. WhatsApp is working on this feature at the moment and aims to reduce privacy concerns amongst the users. It is worth noting that Telegram has had this feature for a long-time already. On top of that, Telegram has also enabled screenshot detection for the users. Telegram users can set the self-destruct timer, which WhatsApp might not give to its users. |
| Indian Government Urges the Need to Develop Homegrown Games Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:12 PM PST
Union minister Prakash Javadekar has called for the need of developing homegrown mobile games, besides calling PUBG and many other mobile games “violent, explicit and addictive.” He also confirmed the government’s plans of setting up a centre of excellence in gaming and other areas in collaboration with IIT Bombay to promote India’s cultures. Furthermore, the government will also form a gaming centre and teach VFX related courses. The government banned PUBG Mobile back in September last year; Since then, it did not make a comeback, and PUBG Corporation has been trying to bring back the game to the country. When PUBG Mobile was banned in India, everyone expected the ban was due to security concerns, however, it now seems like the government banned the game because of the gameplay nature. PUBG Mobile India Comeback Seems Unlikely for NowIt has been exactly six months since the ban on PUBG Mobile in India. With these statements from the Union Minister, we can now rule out the possible comeback of PUBG Mobile India. Last week, PUBG Corporation released a new game called ‘PUBG: New State,’ and opened it for pre-registrations in several countries. However, the pre-registrations are yet to kickstart in India. It is being reported that PUBG: New State will not be released in the country until the ban reversal on PUBG Mobile. While the Union Minister took PUBG Mobile’s name, he did say that criticising those games is not a possible solution. He urged for the development of inhouse games which value the cultures of India. This is the main aim of our government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Almost all the battle royale games have similar gameplay, but none of them received as much popularity as PUBG Mobile, especially in India. It is now clear that the government is not in a mindset of reversing the ban on PUBG Mobile. Numerous reports on the web claim that PUBG Corporation is actively trying to engage in talks with the Indian government, but there’s no response whatsoever. |
