| Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Wins the Race to Get the MIUI 12.5 Stable Update: Report Posted: 30 Mar 2021 05:30 AM PDT
Xiaomi released the MIUI 12.5 (with minor upgrades over the MIUI 12) at the Mi 11 launch event last year in December 2020 in China. After seeding the weekly beta builds for all the eligible devices in its home country i.e. China, three months after the launch; the company has now announced that the Mi 10 Ultra has become the first smartphone to get the MIUI 12.5 stable update. The Mi 10 Ultra is exclusively sold in China and is known to be the 10th-anniversary special smartphone of the company. Thus it is a single branch of the MIUI build. The phone made its debut with the MIUI 12 based on Android 10 which was later updated to Android 11. It has now become the first phone to receive the MIUI 12.5 update. The software is only available for only a few users because it is still in the Stable Beta Phase. The build will supposedly roll out for all the users when there are no issues found on it. MIUI 12.5 Features According to a Gizmochina report, the latest MIUI 12.5 update comes with a build no. V12.5.1.0.RJJCNXM. The MIUI 12.5’s new features are said to bring optimisations for system animations, new customisable system sounds, stereo effects, un-installable system apps and moreover, it also provides improved haptic feedback throughout the UI. The interface is also faster and smoother with the MIUI 12.5. Moreover, the MIUI 12.5 gestures and other tasks are rendered in separate threads avoiding the CPU to get overloaded unlike the previous versions where the gestures and other tasks were rendered in a single thread The company also went on to compare the MIUI 12.5 with OSes from other smartphone makers like One UI 2.5, iOS (14.2.1) and confirmed that the majority of the apps can be uninstalled now and the apps can also be hidden in case they are bothering you. However, there are some un-installable System Apps including Mi Recorder, Scanner, Compass, Weather, Notes App and Mi Calculator and more. The apps that can be hidden are Mi Music, Mi File Manager, Downloads, Mi Video, Themes etc. |
| Revised 5G Spectrum Policy to Meet Demands of Telcos Posted: 30 Mar 2021 04:30 AM PDT
The telcos recently asked the telecom department to avail spectrum across more bands for rolling out 5G so that it doesn't become too costly for them. According to a report from ET Telecom, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will soon earmark all the additional spectrum bands for the 5G rollout in India. The additional spectrum will be a part of the spectrum auctions for 5G airwaves slated for the second half of 2021. With the additional spectrum, the telcos can ensure a more affordable 5G rollout meaning the prices for the end consumer will be affordable too. New 5G Spectrum Policy to Come in AprilThe telecom department is likely to reveal the new 5G spectrum policy that will include airwaves across sub-GHz bands, 1-6 GHz, and millimetre wave bands (above 6 GHz). It will become India's new National Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP). The new NFAP will detail all the spectrum bands available for the auction and what they can be used for by different departments and service companies, including the Department of Space, Railways, defence, satellite, and more. For the unaware, telcos had requested the DoT to update the NFAP policy and include the important millimetre waves, without which the costs of rolling out 5G would have been too high. At present, the airwaves in the 3300-3600 GHz are earmarked by the department for the telcos to provide 5G services. DoS and the defence ministry hold the mid-band and millimetre wave 5G airwaves. It is worth noting that the DoS had initially objected to releasing the airwaves in the 26 GHz band for providing 5G services, citing that it would cause troubles between the satellite signals and the mobile networks. The exact dates for the 5G spectrum auctions are yet to come from the government. All the private operators in the country have expressed that their networks are 5G ready, and all they are waiting for is the auctions. |
| Apple Independent Repair Programme for India Posted: 30 Mar 2021 03:30 AM PDT
Apple is aiming at expanding its Independent Repair Programme strategically worldwide, including India. The primary job of this repair programme team will be to take care of all the common issues of Apple devices and repair them. According to an IANS report, on Monday, the company said that the programme would enable repair teams and people to access genuine tools, parts, repair manuals, and diagnostics for all the out-of-warranty repairs. The year 2019 marked the commencement of the Apple Independent Repair Programme in the US, which was later expanded to Canada and Europe last year. By offering this programme, the company is enabling its customers to get repairs done with genuine parts and tools of the device. Apple Independent Repair Programme OfferingAcross the US, Canada and Europe, there are now more than 1,500 independent repair provider locations that are serving customers with genuine Apple parts. The participating repair providers have the chance of developing their skills as they will have access to free training from Apple and the expensive genuine Apple parts, repair manuals, and diagnostics just like the Apple Authorised Service Providers (AASPs) and Apple Store locations. There is also no cost involved in joining the Apple Repair Programme. The company said that it owns over 5,000 AASPs that help millions of people with convenient repair options with both-in-and out-of-warranty service for Apple products. All the repair providing locations need to have at least one Apple-certified technician who performs all the repair tasks. Other than its diversification via repair options and partners, Apple is also fixated on ensuring customer’s health and safety during the Covid-19 pandemic and is offering additional options such as mail-in repair for customers. It is also supporting its existing network of providers by servicing the customers in ways that will meet health and safety guidelines for both parties. |

| 5G Will Reduce Cost of Per GB Data for Operators: Ericsson India Posted: 30 Mar 2021 01:09 AM PDT
5G, the next-generation connectivity technology, will help the operators bring down the cost of each GB of data by a factor of 10. According to a BW report, the Head of Ericsson India, Nitin Bansal, said, 5G will massively help with the ever-growing data demand and digitisation of India. Bansal mentioned that India is the top-ranked country when it comes to data usage per month per smartphone, with 15.7GB of data in 2020. The number grew from 13.5GB in 2019 to 15.7GB of data in 2020. He said that the Indian operators need affordable 5G to help the country boost its pathway to a digital nation as quickly as possible. Bansal said that Ericsson is ready to help India deploy 5G right away. 5G Will Help Operators Tap Into New Revenue StreamsAccording to Bansal, 5G will help operators reduce their data costs and tapping into new revenue streams. There is a strong business case for 5G evident as per the '5G for business' report released by Ericsson. Bansal said that initially, 5G use cases for India would be fixed wireless access (FWA) and enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB). With the launch of 5G networks in India, consumer demand for 4K streaming and AR activities is expected to increase multiple-folds. With time, sectors such as healthcare, education, and manufacturing will also be able to leverage the high-bandwidth and low-latency networks powered by 5G. Bansal noted that 5G would be crucial for the Indian economy. India has the opportunity for releasing home-grown 5G solutions and leverage them to get ahead of the world in the 5G race. Ericsson's Radio System hardware deployed in India is already 5G ready since 2015. According to Bansal, it could help operators provide 5G services with a simple software update. It is worth noting that Ericsson has helped operators deploy more than 79 live 5G networks across the globe. |

| Mi Band 6 Vs Mi Band 5: Specifications, Price and More Posted: 29 Mar 2021 11:15 PM PDT
Xiaomi yesterday launched the Mi Band 6 in China. It is the successor of the Mi Band 5 and comes with the largest display ever seen on a Mi fitness Band. The Mi Band 6 boasts a massive 1.56-inch display which is around 0.46-inches larger than its predecessor. But the great thing is, the price of the Mi Band 6 is still in the same range as that of the Mi Band 5. Let's take a look at all the specifications and price of Mi Band 6 and compare them with the Mi Band 5. Mi Band 6 Vs Mi Band 5: DesignThere is not much difference in design between the Mi Band 6 and the Mi Band 5. The only thing that's different with the Mi Band 6 is its display size. Apart from that, the design of the watch panel and its strap remains the same. Let's jump into the specifications of these fitness bands. Mi Band 6 Vs Mi Band 5: SpecificationsThe Mi Band 6 comes with a 1.56-inch AMOLED display with support for a peak brightness of 450 nits and 326ppi pixel density. In comparison, the Mi Band 5 has a much smaller 1.1-inch AMOLED display with support for the same peak brightness of 450 nits against the Mi Band 6. In terms of activities, the Mi Band 6 supports 30 sports modes and can intelligently track 6 activities, including running, walking, indoor treadmill, and cycling. In comparison, the Mi Band 5 only supports 11 sports modes. Mi Band 6 Vs Mi Band 5: SimilaritiesBoth the Mi Band 6 and Mi Band 5 come with water resistance certification of up to 50 meters and can charge under 2 hours, giving a battery life of up to 14 days. The Mi Band 6 and the Mi Band 5 both support SpO2 monitoring, heart-rate monitoring and several other health features. There are a ton of similarities between the Mi Band 5 and the Mi Band 6. It is just that the Mi Band 6 comes loaded with very few extra features and a bigger display. Apart from that, we think that most of the things are the same between the two. Mi Band 6 Vs Mi Band 5: PriceThe Mi Band 5 was launched for Rs 2,499 in India. Rs 2,500-3,000 is the price range that Xiaomi usually targets in India when it comes to its fitness bands, and it should be the same for Mi Band 6 when it launches in India. The Mi Band 6 has launched in China for CNY 229 (approx Rs 2,500), and there is also a special NFC edition that costs CNY 279 (approx Rs 3,000). The Mi band 6 is available in multi-colours, and its India launch is expected to be with the Mi 11 series. |

You can also use mobile data without any issue. More Ways to Stop the CallsGo to the settings app on your smartphone then, tap on 'Sound'. Select the 'Do Not Disturb' option and click on Calls. Once you tap on calls, select the 'Do not allow any calls' from the popup menu and toggle 'allow repeat callers' to off position. You can also use the 'call barring' method. For that, open your phone app and tap on the 'menu overflow button' (three dots) in the top right corner of the screen (generally for Android devices, for other devices, it is different). Then tap on the Settings and click on Calls. Within the calls menu, click on the 'call barring' option. Tap on all incoming calls and enter the call barring password, which is mostly 0000 or 1234. | Gigatel 100 Mbps Broadband Plan Costs a Whopping Rs 999 Per Month Posted: 29 Mar 2021 06:32 PM PDT
Gigatel is a private broadband service provider based out of the capital of India, New Delhi. At present, the internet service provider (ISP) is providing its services in the region of Delhi only. It is a fiber broadband company that provides internet plans offering up to 100 Mbps download and upload speeds. If you are looking for a 100 Mbps broadband plan, note that Gigatel's plan is one of the costliest in the markets. But at the same time, Gigatel uses its own network to provide broadband customers with high-speed internet. This means that the company has complete control over the security protocols it uses on its network. Let's take a look at its 100 Mbps plan and see what benefits it comes with. Gigatel 100 Mbps Broadband Plan Comes for Rs 999 Per MonthGigatel provides its 100 Mbps broadband plan for a cost of Rs 999 per month. The users have the option to either pre-pay or post-pay the charges for their plan. In comparison, all the other broadband service providers offer their 100 Mbps plan for a cost of Rs 750-800. What's strange is that even after charging such a 'premium' amount from the customers, Gigatel is not offering them any over-the-top (OTT) benefits. Duly note that the users won't have to pay anything for the installation or the activation of the connection. However, the company charges a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500 for the ONU devices it provides to the customers. We couldn't confirm what the fair usage policy (FUP) data limit for its plans is, but the company has mentioned in its 'Terms and Conditions' page that once the user consumes all FUP data for a 50/100 Mbps plan, the speed will be reduced to 2 Mbps. Further, for all the other plans, the speed drops to 1 Mbps. Data usage will include both the downloading and uploading activities. Another thing that the users should know is that the prices of its plans are exclusive of GST. So the users will have to pay an additional 18% on top of Rs 999 per month for the Gigatel 100 Mbps plan. The company also offers three more plans with 20, 50, and 75 Mbps speeds. The cheapest plan with 20 Mbps speed costs Rs 599 per month, 50 Mbps speed costs Rs 699, and 75 Mbps costs Rs 899 per month. All the plans mentioned above are for home usage by regular users. The company also offers broadband plans for business needs with a dedicated bandwidth and no throttling guarantee during peak hours. |
