| Realme UI 2.0 Top 5 Features You Will Love Posted: 01 Apr 2021 09:00 AM PDT
Realme, the smartphone manufacturing brand is known for its wide range of smartphones across the globe. However, that is only one side of the coin because the other side is acquired by the software department which seems to offer an array of features and make the Realme smartphones stand out in the crowd. The company has already launched its latest Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11 and in this article, we have garnered the top five features of the newly launched Realme UI2.0 update which might leave you amazed. Mini and Floating WindowsThere are many instances when you use apps on your smartphone and switch to different apps without closing them because you need them as well. But you need to keep on opening the multitasking panel to switch from one app to another. To make this more convenient for users, Realme UI 2.0 comes with mini and floating windows that will allow users to use two apps simultaneously. You need to activate this feature from the overview menu. All you need to do is to tap on the menu icon of the app placed at the top right corner of the overview window. You have to select the options for mini and floating windows or you can also tap and hold the app for a few seconds and swipe down to ping that app on your home page as a floating window. You can remove or place the app as per your requirement. Realme Dual-Mode AudioRealme dual-mode audio allows users to share music with their friends and family sitting next to you in a few simple clicks. You can source music to wired earphones and Bluetooth earphones simultaneously. This feature can be accessed via the volume menu or you can head to the settings app > Realme Lab > Dual-mode audio Dark modeThe Realme UI 2.0 allows users to customize the entire experience. The update comes with three different hues called enhanced black, medium, and gentle gray. The new feature also allows users to adjust icons and wallpaper to dark mode. It also forces third-party apps to follow the dark mode UI. Quick Camera ShareThe Realme UI 2.0 has added a new quick share button in the camera UI, this will help users to quickly share the photos on their social media accounts without shifting from the camera app to others. Once you capture a picture or a video you can head to preview and swipe up to trigger the options to edit and share. You can directly share the picture or video on your social media handle without stepping out of the camera app. It's obviously not a very big achievement but this helps you in making your workflow smoother. Personalization SettingsThis feature will allow users to choose from a bunch of presets or create their colour scheme as per their choice. This will allow you to add and remove rows/columns from the home screen, change icon shape and size, change fonts, and a lot more under one single menu. For this, you need to head to the setting app and select Personalizations, here you will find all the customization settings. |
| BSNL Bharat Fiber Broadband Dealership Charges Nil at Purchase Point Posted: 01 Apr 2021 07:30 AM PDT
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) offers its customers Bharat Fiber broadband plans and services to get super-fast internet connection at their homes and offices. Users don't have to pay anything upfront when it comes to charges for a BSNL Bharat Fiber broadband dealership. This is what the telco has been trying to tell its customers. However, there is a fake website that's also offering users a Bharat Fiber broadband dealership and is asking them to pay charges upfront for it either in cash or online. According to a tweet from PIB Fact Check, the website asking for charges from users looking to get a BSNL broadband dealership is fake. BSNL Says No Advance Amount Needs to be PaidThe official website of BSNL says that the user doesn't have to pay any advance amount for getting a dealership of Bharat Fiber broadband. Whatever charges there are, the telco includes it in the first bill and doesn't take it in advance from the customer. Bharat Fiber is a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service from BSNL that includes a dynamic portfolio of services for the users. Dealership users get the benefit of high-speed internet up to 100 Mbps, IPTV service, audio-on-demand service, Video-on-demand service, bandwidth on demand, remote education, video conferencing solutions, interactive gaming, VPN on broadband, dial-up VPN service, Virtual Private LAN service, and video and voice telephony over IP. BSNL Bharat Fiber Plans Might Get Discontinued SoonAccording to an IndiaToday report, all the plans ranging from Rs 449 to Rs 1,499 from BSNL Bharat Fiber might get discontinued soon. The report details that these plans were launched on a promotional basis and were given an extension of 90 days in December. The last date for these fiber plans might be April 4, 2021. However, the telco is known for regularising plans that see great demand. We expect that these plans will continue since they sit well in the market against the offerings from JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber. |
| 5G Auctions Will Feature the 700 MHz Spectrum, But at What Price Posted: 01 Apr 2021 06:30 AM PDT
The 700 MHz spectrum band is considered important for the telcos to help out with the 5G rollout in India. However, there were no takers of the 700 MHz airwaves in the recently concluded spectrum auctions because of its high reserve price. The telcos in the past have asked the sector regulator and the telecom department to revise the prices of the coveted 700 MHz band. However, according to an ET Telecom report, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) hasn't taken any action or communicated anything to the regulator about bringing down the price of the 700 MHz band for the 5G rollout. 700 MHz Spectrum Band Saw No Demand Despite 50% Price CutDuring the spectrum auctions in 2016, the price of the 700 MHz spectrum band was set at a whopping Rs 11,854 crore per MHz. Since it saw no demand then, its price was cut by 50% for the recently held auctions to Rs 6,586 crores per MHz. Despite seeing a 50% price cut, the telcos didn't show any interest in the 700 MHz bands simply because of its high reserve price. Even though 5G will rollout will require the 700 MHz band, telcos were wary about spending their money on it. This simply means that the telecom department will have to request Trai for reducing the reserve price of the 700 MHz spectrum band. It will again be available for the telcos during the upcoming spectrum auctions with 5G airwaves. But for it to sell this time, the sector regulator will have to cut its price down even further. DoT has further updated the spectrum policy called the National Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP) and added more spectrum across different bands for the telcos to help with a smoother 5G rollout. Telcos will be happy to hear about the new NFAP policy since more spectrum will help them in rolling out 5G at a more affordable cost for their customers. |

| NCSC, Telcos to Coordinate via Nodal Officer Orders Says: DoT Posted: 01 Apr 2021 03:41 AM PDT
The Indian government is making efforts to ensure that none of the Chinese firms takes part in the 5G network in India because of the ongoing border tension between India and China. According to an ET telecom report, the Department of Telecommuncations (DoT) has directed the major telcos in the country – Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), to appoint nodal officers to coordinate with the NCSC for matters related to getting equipment from trusted sources. The nodal officers are expected to be in constant contact with the NCSC so that both the parties can exchange information effectively on the designated portal regarding products they are sourcing from the trusted sources for their network. DoT’s OrdersIt has been stated by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on Tuesday that a nodal officer shall be appointed by the telecommunications service providers (TSPs) and they shall be provided with access to the portal. The nodal officers will also be rendering inputs to the District Attorney (DA) in both online and offline mode. The statement further communicated that the licensee should provide every information immediately that the DA is seeking. The licensee is mandated to only connect the trusted products in its network and should ask for approval from DA for any form of upgradation in the future. In any case, the procurement rules are yet to be enforced from June 16, 2021 and the NCSC will launch the beta portal on April 15, 2021. The sections of gear for which the security code related to trusted sources is applicable. India is making it very hard for Chinese companies to do business in India. Despite that, Huawei is quite confindent and positive about its future in India. The Chinese vendor believes that the government will take the right decision when the time comes. It is worth nothing that both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) already have a contract with Huawei and ZTE. |
| Vodafone Idea, Airtel and Tata Tele Refrain from Paying AGR Dues to DoT Posted: 01 Apr 2021 02:30 AM PDT
The never-ending adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues drama continue with telcos and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) standing at odds with each other. The telcos have argued that they have already paid the 10% advance on the dues while DoT says they haven't. According to an ET Telecom report, DoT has to inform the Supreme Court (SC) about the status of the AGR dues paid by the telcos as of March 31, 2021. For the unaware, on September 1, 2020, the SC had ordered the telcos to pay a 10% advance on their total AGR dues before March 31, 2021. The telcos believe that they have already paid the 10% advance, but the DoT argues it is not the case. Bharti Airtel, Tata Teleservices, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have refrained from paying anything beyond the Rs 30,055 crores they have already paid for the AGR dues. The telcos have said that according to the SC order, the amount they have already paid is sufficient to cover the 10% advance they need to pay. However, DoT believes that the SC had ordered the telcos to pay a 10% advance on the remaining total dues and not on the overall dues they had to pay. Bharti Airtel has said that it doesn't need to pay anything related to the remaining AGR dues for the next four instalments, and Vi believes that the next instalment is only due for the company in 2022. DoT Made 'Arithmetical Errors' While Calculating AGR DuesIt is worth noting that telcos have already submitted a petition in the SC against DoT’s AGR dues calculations. The numbers suggested by the telcos and the DoT are entirely different. The apex court is yet to hear on the case. The industry will get a big respite if the SC accepts the case made by the telcos. During the beginning of the year, Airtel had self-assessed its AGR dues to be Rs 13,004 crores in total against the DoT's calculation of Rs 43,980 crores. At the same time, Vi had self-assessed its dues to be Rs 21,533 crores against DoT's calculation of Rs 58,400 crores. Both the telcos have cited that DoT made 'arithmetical errors' while calculating the dues and have sought a recalculation. It will be interesting to see which way the SC's decision goes towards. Looking at the past, the SC has mostly sided with the government on the AGR dues case and had said that no 'recalculation' requests would be entertained. |

| How iPhone Users Can Enable Wi-Fi Calling Feature Posted: 31 Mar 2021 09:05 PM PDT
Network issues at few places can spoil the day. There are many instances where users wish to make a phone call in an emergency but fail to connect due to the unavailability of the cellular network. To counter this, telecom operators offer a Wi-Fi calling feature. If you are an iPhone user, the Wi-Fi calling feature allows you to send and receive audio calls, make video calls, and iMessage texts through your Wi-Fi connection. The feature comes in handy if you want calling services without relying on the cellular network. If you are still wondering what exactly this feature is, follow the article to the end for a detailed guide regarding Wi-Fi calling. How to Enable Wi-Fi Calling on iPhoneTo enable Wi-Fi calling on iPhone, follow the steps mentioned below: Step 1: Open the Settings app from the house screen of your iPhone Step 2: Under the Settings option, click on phone (or cellular), then tap on Wi-Fi calling. Step 3: Toggle ON the choice for "Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone." Once you toggle on the Wi-Fi calling on your phone, you will see a message on the screen that will share and explain the information that is shipped to your carrier once you enable the Wi-Fi. Tap on the "Enable" button to continue. To confirm that the Wi-Fi Calling feature is enabled, search for the words "Wi-Fi" with the phone's carrier name on your phone. Wi-Fi Calling DetailedUnlike FaceTime, Wi-Fi calling is carrier-driven and depends on a technology called SIP / IMS (IP Multimedia Subset). The technology enables your iPhone to form and receive phone calls employing a regular Wi-Fi network. Instead of routing your voice packets through your carrier’s closest cell tower, those packets get tunnelled through the web to a controller employed by your cell company, which then bounces them across the network to whomever you’re speaking to. |
| SITI Broadband Offers 200 Mbps Plan for Less than Rs 900 Per Month Posted: 31 Mar 2021 06:32 PM PDT
What's noteworthy about its services is its cheap cost. Mostly private operators who don't have a wide-scale presence in India charge their customers high rates for their broadband plans to recover the cost from them. However, despite having a low number of broadband customers in India, SITI Broadband is availing its fiber broadband plans for a very low cost. The company offers one of the cheapest 200 Mbps broadband plans in all of India. SITI Broadband 200 Mbps PlanThe 200 Mbps broadband plan from SITI Broadband costs only Rs 899 per month. Of course, the price is exclusive of taxes. But even after adding 18% GST (Rs 161) on Rs 899, in the end, the customer will have to pay a total of Rs 1,060 only. SITI Broadband has named its 200 Mbps fiber broadband plan 'Mega'. It comes with unlimited data, but there is a fair usage policy (FUP) limit applicable on all the unlimited data plans. The company's customer care team couldn't confirm the FUP limit on the unlimited data plans saying only the local employees of the broadband team have the knowledge. This plan can also be purchased for longer-validity. When purchased for six months, users get one month of service from the company for free. Meaning, users will have to pay a total of Rs 6,394 (6 months x Rs 899 = Rs 5,394 + 18% GST (Rs 970) = 6,394) for seven months. It would bring down the monthly cost of the plan from Rs 1,060 to Rs 913.42 effectively. Further, if users purchase this plan for 10 months, they will get 2 months of service for free. Meaning, they will have to pay a total of Rs 10,608 (10 months x Rs 899 = Rs 8,990 + 18% GST (Rs 1,618) = Rs 10,608) for 12 months. It would bring down the monthly cost of the plan from Rs 1,060 to Rs 884 per month. The terms and conditions page of the SITI Broadband suggests that the activation charges paid by the customer will be non-refundable. However, the company won't charge for activation charges if the customer purchases his/her own router/modem and activates it by connecting the fiber wire to it. All customers will have to pay a security deposit against the ONU devices that the company provides for the connection. SITI Broadband all provides customers with suggestions for appropriate routers/modems they can purchase for their connection if they don't want the one provided by the company. The company reserves the right to withdraw the connection without giving any prior notice to the customers. |
