Top Leaders of Tech Industry Have This to Say About 5G

Posted: 11 May 2021 08:36 AM PDT

5G

5G is one of the most awaited tech features that has both consumers and manufacturers at the edge of their seats, since we know the capabilities of the technology but are unable to test it out, at least in India.

In a recent video series that was started by American chipmaker Qualcomm, a panel of experts talk about certain aspects of 5G and the future prospects that it might offer. In the first episode of this series, Qualcomm talks about 5G and how it can shape the future of PCs.

This series, which has been dubbed "The Future Of.." will be one to closely follow, as we will be able to hear the top experts of the industry portray their thoughts regarding the most awaited networking feature, possibly with some information about India-related 5G and its rollout.

What Do The Leaders Have To Say

The first of the top bosses who had something to say about 5G was Lenovo's Executive Director of Product Management Tom Butler, who, during the discussion stated that people have gone from having one PC for the household to one PC per person over the course of the last year.

This has been caused by remote work becoming more common across the world, leading to an overall imbalance in terms of low-latency, bandwidth, capabilities and most kinds of infrastructure.

With 5G, the issues will be a thing of the past, with 5G solving most bandwidth issues as, even at homes, bandwidth becomes an issue despite having a single or few devices on the network. These aspects of 5G, such as the quality of the network will be quite beneficial.

Qualcomm's Senior Director of Product Management, Miguel Nunes added that at a time when users demand enterprise-grade low-latency network, 5G will solve all of their wishes.

Furthermore, 5G also gives businesses the ability to have a work connection, separate from a home connection. Security, manageability and mobility will also be key when the 5G rollout begins.

5G will also improve the battery life of laptop PCs, increasing focus on the importance of video conferencing, streaming content, audio clarity, portability, connectivity, security and more are all getting applied from the smartphone into the PC in a bid to make it more mainstream.

To add to all of this, Alex Katouzian, Qualcomm's Senior VP and General Manager added that there will be multiple AI applications for 5G such as real-time translation and video calls and video conferences becoming smarter.

Nokia Devices Might Get Android 11 a Little Late than Expected

Posted: 11 May 2021 07:30 AM PDT

Nokia Android 11

Nokia has been one of the last companies left in the market that still makes use of stock Android for its operating system, instead of a skin on top. With Android 11, one would expect it to be in the lead when it comes to providing software updates.

This has been quite true, at least up till now, since Nokia had been one of the quickest companies, at least in the budget segment, providing updates quicker than the likes of Xiaomi or Realme.

It seems that this will now come to a halt, as Nokia licensee HMD Global seems to be delaying its rollout for Android 11 to smartphones that are yet to get the latest version of Android. Why do we say this, and what is the issue? Read ahead to find out.

Nokia To Delay Android 11 Rollout?

Nokia

As per a report, HMD Global had tweeted its roadmap for the Android 11 rollout, but the specific tweet now stands deleted. Nokia had stated earlier that it would be providing two years of OS updates for its compatible devices and was supposed to provide the same by Q2 of 2021. There is no clarification till now about why the tweet was redacted.

This context was initially provided back in September of 2020, wherein the company decided to highlight the roadmap for Android 11 updates for smartphones that ran up to Q2 of 2021. The company later deleted the tweet with no further clarification regarding the same.

This specific tweet was saved by Neowin, with the news being reported by Android Police. The first device from Nokia that received the Android 11 update was the Nokia 8.3 5G, with the Nokia 2.2 being the latest device to receive the Android 11 update.

The tweet itself mentioned that four devices were slated to receive the update in Q4 of 2020-Q1 of 2021, with five smartphones scheduled to receive it in Q1-Q2 of 2021 and finally, two additional devices were set to receive it in Q2 of 2021. Despite this, only four out of the fourteen smartphones have received the update till now.

HMD Global is yet to clarify, and this might be a minor mistake, so take this article with a pinch of salt.

As for other Nokia-related news, the company launched its Nokia Lite Earbuds last month, with the device touting a design similar to OnePlus Buds Z. The earphones offer 36 hours of total battery life via a charging case.

The earbuds also feature an in-ear design, with Black and Polar Sea colour options on offer. Do note that there is no information regarding the release of these buds in India.

Nokia Teams Up With Movistar to Deploy 5G Network in Chile

Posted: 11 May 2021 06:30 AM PDT

Nokia

Movistar, one of the telecom operators from Chile, would use equipment provided by Nokia to launch its 5G Networks after the latter grabbed a deal by the Chilean operator. Nokia would reportedly provide equipment from its Airscale portfolio to launch 5G networks in the country. Movistar will also strengthen its critical network infrastructure across markets in Chile by upgrading its 4G and 4G+ networks using Nokia's technology solutions. Movistar recently won access to spectrum by bidding in Chile's 5G auction in the 3.5 GHz band. The upgraded network will be leveraging on Nokia's Airscale Radio Access to supply vast connectivity with extremely low latency and increased capacity. This will benefit both the consumers and small or medium businesses by building a path to 5G for them in Chile.

About the Upgrade and Its Uses

In theory, these network upgrades from 4G/LTE to 5G/NR using Nokia's AirScale portfolio would be done via software upgrades. Think of it like updating the android version of your mobile phone. This upgrade will enable a smooth transition for Movistar towards the world of 5G Networks. We know that 5G will open doors to AR, VR and other businesses where low latency, high-speed internet is of prime importance.

For Movistar specifically, this upgrade will enable its customers to access and reap the benefits of 5G networks. The upgraded 5G network will also play an essential role in supporting Industry 4.0. Other use cases would include developments in the public sector, health care and adoption of wireless networks in private environments. Movistar Chile's existing fibre optics will support this revolutionized high-speed technology which will allow the interconnection of a number of mobile antennas across the cities.

Chile is on its path to launch a commercial 5G network. The first step towards this path was Chile conducting a 5G auction which was the first for Latin America. In that auction won by Movistar, the telecom operator acquired 50 MHz in the 3.5 GHz band. The mobile broadband services in Chile will see a significant enhancement thanks to this spectrum win.

5G will bring enormous potential to the country: Head of Technology, Movistar Chile

Head of Technology at Movistar Chile, Mr Antonio Bueno, has pointed out that this upgrade to 5G networks will bring enormous potential to the country. He further added that this upgrade would not only benefit the people of Chile but various businesses and verticals of sectors.

Latin America has a diverse mix of emerging markets: Nokia

Nokia also commented on the win, where the Head of Latin America at Nokia, Mr Osvaldo Di Campli, noted that the country has a diversified mix of emerging markets and established economies along with consumer potential. However, Latin America is yet to enjoy and experience all the benefits that 5G offers.

Indian Telecom Operators Making Great Efforts to Move 2G, 3G Users to 4G

Posted: 11 May 2021 05:53 AM PDT

Indian Telecom Operators 2G 4G

Telecom Operators in India are putting "great efforts" to welcome the "vast population" currently using 2G and 3G "into the data-driven world," says Ira Palti, chief executive officer of Ceragon Networks. Palti said that the efforts made by the Indian telecom operators to convert existing 2G and 3G users would "drive the operators” to swiftly enhance their existing 4G networks. Crucially, Ceragon CEO in the first quarter earnings call on May 3, 2021, also said that the company has been witnessing a "very strong momentum" in India.

Ceragon Expects to be Part of Indian Operators 5G POCs

Ceragon Networks, a company that offers wireless backhaul and fronthaul solutions on May 3, 2021, announced its 2021 first-quarter results with the company recording US$68.3 million in revenues. The company said that the first quarter revenues translated to an 22.2% year-over-year (YoY) increase with India accounting for 26% of its total revenues.

"Our strongest revenues for the quarter were from India, reflecting ongoing deliveries to Bharti," Ran Vered, chief financial officer at Ceragon said in the first-quarter earnings call.

Bharti Airtel and Ceragon Networks in late April 2020 announced that the second largest wireless operator in India had picked solutions from Ceragon for "additional 4G network expansions beginning first quarter of 2020." It was said that Airtel was looking to enhance its "network capacity to address growing demand for broadband amidst sharp rise in data consumption" across the country.

Palti in the first-quarter earnings call said that the telecom operators in India are investing "heavily" in enhancing their 4G capabilities while also "planning" their proofs-of-concept (POCs) for 5G.

"In India, there's massive competition among operators who now invest heavily in strengthening their 4G capabilities and planning their POCs for 5G," Palti said in the first-quarter earnings call.

The CEO of Ceragon Networks said that the company believes it will be part of these 5G POCs based on its existing relationships with the telecom operators in India.

"At the same time, there are great efforts to bring the vast population still using 2G and 3G into the data-driven world," Palti said. "These efforts drive the operators to rapidly expand their current 4G networks in both reach and capacity, which creates significant demand for our products."

Palti said "both trends" favoured Ceragon Networks in its first quarter of the current financial year and that the "operations and revenues were strong and stable" for the company during the quarter.

"In fact, in India, we believe 2021 will be even stronger than 2020, assuming no material impact on our operations from the latest COVID outbreak," Palti said.

Indian Market Built to Work Under COVID: Ceragon CEO

Crucially, Palti said that the company is a "little bit hesitant on the capability to install" their solutions due to the current COVID scenario in India.

"In general, what we see as the demand plans, the operators put us their plans for 2021," Palti said. "Plans were done somewhere in January, February before the very heavy hit of the COVID."

In the third quarter of the previous financial year, Ceragon CEO said that the company had been running at "full speed" in India, since the country lifted its lockdown restrictions in early August 2020. However, Palti in the first-quarter earnings call on May 3, 2021, said that things "might be a little bit more difficult."

"But in general, yes, I think the India market is built to work under the COVID," Palti said.

Additionally, Vered said that the company has already witnessed "strong bookings" in its first quarter and hence has been "confident" with the question of COVID and its impact on Ceragon Networks in India.

"Our experience from the last year with COVID in India was actually a positive one, if I may say so, because we were managed and were able to deliver and execute despite the COVID situation," Vered said. "I think that at this point, the outbreak in India is more severe and something that we didn't [have] had the experience in the past."

Satellite Broadband Can Introduce India to New Security Threats: Report

Posted: 11 May 2021 04:45 AM PDT

Satellite Broadband

The upcoming age of connectivity with new technologies is going to bring new threats that the government will need to learn to counter in time. Satcom is one such industry that is expected to rise in the next few years in India. Major satellite broadband companies, including Bharti, owned OneWeb and Elon Musk's Starlink, have plans for providing internet services from 2022 in India.

According to an ET Telecom report, Ajay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Defence, said that proper actions are required to be taken to ensure that the new security challenges posed by the satcom industry can be countered on time. Examination of new technologies is very important to determine the security challenges they can bring to the table.

Broadband Satellite Will Require Good Examination of Technology

A thorough examination of the technologies used by the companies such as OneWeb and Starlink will allow the Indian government in framing policies that can cater to the safety of the nation. India already has a Defence Space Agency (DSA) that was created back in 2018 to serve as the dedicated body for detecting and protecting the country against security threats.

But even the DSA will require to study more about the technologies that will be coming soon to India. The study of new technology will be necessary for the government to do for keeping the safety interests of consumers at the top.

Starlink had already started offering users an option to pre-book the connection in India for $99 (approximately Rs 7,100). This didn't sit well with the Broadband India Forum (BIF), given Starlink had no grounds for selling a connection to the users in India. The company hasn't received frequency allocations from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and didn't even have a license to sell broadband services in the country.

Earlier, DoT had said that it would legally examine the offer made by Starlink in India to determine if the satcom company is breaking any laws of the nation. But the telecom department is yet to come up with an update regarding the same.

If you have bought a Starlink connection, don't worry, the company will refund it to you in case you don't want it anymore, or the company cancels its plans for India.

Google Pay Users Can Now Make International Transactions to Singapore, India

Posted: 11 May 2021 04:17 AM PDT

Google Pay

Google Pay has been quite influential in bringing some much-needed change to the mode of payment in multiple countries, especially in India, being a backbone for cashless transactions in the country via UPI based payment.

Till now, however, users of Google Pay in the U.S. were not allowed to send money to GPay users in certain other countries, but this is set to change.

It was announced by Google on Tuesday that users in the U.S. would now be able to send money to GPay users in countries like India and Singapore.

How Will The Payment Take Place?

As per Google, it has partnered with Western Union and Wise, with both companies having integrated their services into Google Pay. This is the first instance of both firms inking such a deal for cross-border payments.

In an interview with TechCrunch, Josh Woodward, the Director of Product Management at Google, stated that the company is kickstarting its cross-border payments feature in India and Singapore, with plans to expand this to a worldwide extent by the end of 2021.

According to this partnership, Western Union will power cross-border payments via Google Pay in more than 200 countries, with Wise extending support in over 80 countries.

For those of you wondering how this will work, when a user in the U.S. attempts to send money to someone in India or Singapore, they will be informed about the exact amount that will be sent to the recipient. From within the application for Google Pay, they can also choose which provider to choose, as well as how long it should take for the payment to be processed.

As of now, the remittance feature allows for sending of money from the U.S. to India and Singapore, but not vice versa. As per both companies, Singapore and India were chosen due to their overall importance in the world.

For those of you looking for the exact number, India was the largest receiving country for remittances in 2019, receiving over $80 billion over the course of the year, as per the World Bank.

This partnership is mutually beneficial, with Google getting better support and Wise and Western Union expanding their presence in several markets with a more aggressive approach against the likes of PayPal.

In terms of the payment, Western Union has stated that receivers will pay no charges, with the exact value in their local currency being provided. Wise has mentioned that it will charge the actual foreign exchange rate and transfer fees, varying from country to country.

Google itself will not levy any fees to customers, with Western Union providing an option of free transfers when sending money with Google Pay till June 16, with Wise making the first transfer free for new customers on transfers maxed at $500.

India Keeps China Out of Telecom PLI Scheme: Report

Posted: 11 May 2021 01:30 AM PDT

India telecom PLI scheme

The Indian government had earlier announced the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the telecom sector worth Rs 12,200 crore. Now, as per a report from the CNBC-Awaaz, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is going to issue the final guidelines for the scheme in 1 to 2 days.

The telecom department will soon start inviting the interested companies for submitting applications for the scheme. The application window will be open for the companies for a 1-year period until June 15, 2021. However, Chinese companies have been excluded from the scheme.

Minimum Investment of Rs 100 Crore

The PLI scheme outlays that the companies will need to invest Rs 100 crore at least to be a part of the scheme against which they will receive a 4% or 6% incentive. The scheme will include the production of 4G/5G core equipment, wireless equipment, and radio access network (RAN), Internet-of-Things (IoT), and more.

The department was expected to start inviting applications for the scheme in January this year; however, it got delayed due to unknown reasons.

The PLI scheme for the telecom sector would allow the telecom service providers (TSPs), including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) purchase their equipment directly from the local manufacturers. There would be no import costs involved, which might make it cheaper for the operators to roll out new networks.

Indian operators currently rely on outside companies such as Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung, Huawei, and ZTE. However, the Chinese vendors Huawei and ZTE won't be able to participate in the government's PLI scheme for the telecom sector since they are considered a national threat at the moment.

India is soon going to push for the live 5G networks, and the PLI scheme for telecom will help the operators build their 5G core and infrastructure on the foundation of locally manufactured equipment.

It is worth noting that India has also excluded Huawei and ZTE from the 5G trials that the telecom department announced a few days back. The operators will be leveraging the technologies from the European vendors including Nokia and Ericsson for testing their 5G networks in the urban and rural parts of the country.

India’s Tejas Networks wins bid to deploy technology for TelOne

Posted: 11 May 2021 01:00 AM PDT

India Tejas Networks

In this day and age, every country and the companies that operate within them, are looking for the best solutions to expand their technology infrastructure. With globalisation in place, these companies are no longer limited to available solutions within their own country as there might be more advanced and cost-efficient alternatives available elsewhere. In this regard, TelOne, one of Zimbabwe's largest telecom operators has made a decision to deploy the Tejas 100G/100G+ coherent dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) solutions. The 100/100G+ DWDM technology is a solution offered by Tejas Networks, a networking product company headquartered in India.

More on TelOne

TelOne leverages its robust infrastructure to enable connectivity across the country with the widest network coverage in Zimbabwe. TelOne is a shareholder of the West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC). WIOCC further holds a major stake in East African Submarine System (EASSy) cable. Thus, TelOne does not just have infrastructure build underground and above the ground but also has some secure and sturdy connections to a variety of undersea cable systems.

What is DWDM and What It Does

The DWDM solutions help in enabling multiple optical wavelengths to be multiplexed or combined into one single fibre strand. The DWDM technology has made some advancements overtime where the older obsolete versions could only support 2.5gbps bandwidth per wavelength. The latest 100/100G+ version deployed by TelOne can deliver higher bit rates (greater than 100G) per wavelength.

This new solution not only provides the lowest per bite rate across longer distances but also proves to be cost-effective by using one single fibre strands and saving on fibre reserves.

After a competitive bidding and a successful field trial, Tejas'100G DWDM/OTN solution was able to showcase that it could transmit multiple 100G lambdas at high speed. This trial was not only done in a cost-effective manner but also lived up to the performance and reliability requirements of TelOne.

This Solution Empowers Customers: CEO of Tejas Networks

The CEO of Tejas Networks, Mr. Sanjay Nayak commented on the DWDM technology by saying that it will empower customers to use Tejas' cost-effective and reliable solutions to expand and inter-operate as well as help them in diversifying their existing DWDM vendor base.

We Are looking for versatile solutions: MD at TelOne

Mrs. Chipo Mtasa who is the Managing Director at TelOne also commented on the matter by pointing that with a rise in demand for bandwidth and high speeds, TelOne was looking for a versatile solution to help them expand the capacity of their existing fibre networks with a series of investments.

As of now, though, the company has not dropped any hints or promos regarding the device, so the launch may not be as soon as one would expect it to be.

Jio Backs Homegrown 5G Standards, Airtel Says It Will Increase Costs

Posted: 10 May 2021 11:50 PM PDT

Reliance Jio 5G

Much recently, the Indian government had announced that the telcos could start their 5G trials using the airwaves in the 700 MHz spectrum band. Now, the two leading operators of the country, namely Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, are at opposite ends when it comes to the 5G standards that India should adopt.

According to a Business Standard report, Airtel believes that the homegrown 5G standards known as '5Gi' will be very costly and push India out of the global ecosystem. At the same time, Reliance Jio is happy with the indigenous standards as long as they keep the network costs in check and promise quality.

Bharti Airtel Wants 5G Standards Developed By 3GPP

Bharti Airtel said that it would like India to adopt the 5G standards developed by the 3GPP. This would ensure that Indian 5G networks can push for innovation in the widely embraced ecosystem and would allow the operators to get lower prices on the equipment because of standardisation.

Reliance Jio also said that it would support 5Gi standards when it is economically feasible for the operators.

Because of the confusion related to the 5G standards, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) to come up with a list of pros and cons of the 5Gi standard so that a proper assessment of the technology is possible.

The COAI will further need to assess whether all the operators want the 5Gi standards and also determine what the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) think about it.

Government's Views on 5G Standards

As mentioned above, the Indian government recently allowed the telecom operators of the country to start with 5G trials. The government, however, has asked the telcos to go with the 5Gi standards for trials since it can support broadband connectivity in ultra-long-range-cell sites and rural areas of the country.

The 5Gi standards have been developed by the Telecommunications Standards Development Society India (TSDSI). It is worth noting that TSDSI is yet to communicate to the regulator why the 5Gi standard is better in rural areas than the one developed by the 3GPP. On top of this, the 3GPP 5G standard has already proved that it can provide good coverage in the rural areas of the U.S.

At the same time, Reliance Jio has backed the standards developed by TSDSI by saying that the body has already demonstrated how the 5Gi standard is better than the 5G standard of 3GPP to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Wi-Fi Routers Can Do Multiple Things for You

Wi-Fi routers

Wi-Fi Routers have revolutionised the way we use the internet. Gone are the days of using the internet on one single device that was connected to a broadband connection using lengthy untidy wiring. Now we can easily connect a Wi-Fi router to a broadband connection to create a broadband connection Wi-Fi network.

Connecting a router to a broadband connection not only gives us access to immensely higher internet speeds, but it does that wirelessly, on any device with a Wi-Fi-enabled and, on multiple devices at the same time. These use case scenarios have led to the widespread adoption of more and more technologically advanced Wi-Fi routers. You can use them at your home, workplaces, basically anywhere where you want to connect to the internet wirelessly.

List of Things Your Wi-Fi Router Can Do

Other than providing fast wireless internet to multiple users, a Wi-Fi router can be used for a lot of other purposes –

Scheduled Internet Access – As we mentioned above, routers can be used at home so that a single family can benefit from one single internet connection. If you have kids at home and you want to limit their internet usage in terms of the time they spend on the internet, you can do so using a Wi-Fi Router. These configurations can have specific settings for each MAC address that is connected to it. Meaning, you can choose to configure and schedule time limits for different MAC addresses.

File Sharing – We all know what a pain it is to share files through Bluetooth especially if they are huge in size. But thanks to the ever-blooming technology, Bluetooth for file sharing is history. When you connect your computer/laptop to a Wi-Fi network, you can choose to connect each and every device connected to the same network to get connected to your computer. If you choose to do so, you can easily transfer files between devices as all the devices are part of a local area network.

Set-Up Parental Controls – Similar to have we can set up parental controls on our televisions and block certain channels from being viewed. Although some Wi-Fi router network comes will basic controls to access certain websites, you can configure specific parental controls on a particular MAC address and restrict it from accessing a particular list of websites. You can also use this feature to prevent accidentally accessing any illegal sites.

Guest-Networks – There are two reasons why you would want to use your Wi-Fi router to set up a guest network – speed and security. We know that as more and more devices connect to a single network, your internet speed gets impacted. Wi-Fi routers help you configure a guest network that you can create for the purpose of sharing your internet with any guests. You can choose to limit its speed as well. Additionally, if your guests are connected to a different network, you don't have to worry about them having access to the information of all the devices and internet usage of your main network.

Create a Cloud Space – Say for instance you have set up your Wi-Fi router in a small office where you need to constantly save and share data between teams. If your Wi-Fi router has a USB port, you can connect a secure, reliable and high storage hard drive to it. Now, all the devices connected to that Wi-Fi network will be able to save and access data on that hard drive. This will basically create a private cloud space for your team to save, share and access data without any hassles.

Print Wirelessly – You can connect a printer to your Wi-Fi router using a USB port. Once a wired connection is set between your printer and router, you would be able to send print commands directly from your phones to your printer using the Wi-Fi network wirelessly.

Although different Wi-Fi routers would have different sets of features available, a quick research would help you understand if your Wi-Fi router is capable to perform the above-mentioned tasks.

BSNL 180 days plan

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) offers a variety of prepaid plans. Since the telco's website isn't the most user friendly in terms of navigation and plan listing, users tend to miss out on some of its really good prepaid plans. One such prepaid plan that's been overlooked for a long time is the Rs 699 plan from the telco. It was announced one year ago, and the telco is still offering it with the same benefits. This plan makes for a perfect case for the users who need a prepaid subscription for the long term but don't need a lot of data.

Let's take a look at the benefits of the plan to determine what makes it a good option for users who are looking for a long-term plan.

BSNL Rs 699 Prepaid Plan

The Rs 699 prepaid plan from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited offers users unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day. The plan is valid for 180 days or six months, which means it is a plan for a long-term subscription. Users get 500MB or 0.5GB fair-usage-policy (FUP) data with this plan every day for 180 days. It means that the total data this plan ships with is 90GB. Further, once the FUP data is consumed, the internet speed drops to 80 Kbps.

The benefits of the plan are also applicable for users in roaming or in areas of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), i.e., Mumbai or Delhi. Users will also get a free caller tune facility for the first 60 days with the plan.

BSNL Rs 699 Prepaid Plan Perfect for Less Data Consumers

If you have a SIM card from another operator that you are using primarily for data needs, the Rs 699 prepaid plan from BSNL can serve as a good plan for your secondary SIM. Since it comes for long-term for a mere price of Rs 699, at least for 180 days, you won't have to worry about voice calling.

Further, even the 0.5GB data offered with this plan can act as additional data over your FUP data offered by the other operator. BSNL's data services anyway don't make a huge difference in most areas of the country where the telco doesn't offer strong connectivity services.

The BSNL Rs 699 plan be purchased by going to the BSNL's recharge/payments portal and searching for the plan. Further, whenever you need extra data, you can purchase a data voucher from the telco that starts from a mere price of Rs 16, offering 2GB of data for 1 day.

Reliance Jio Offers 500MB Data for Rs 1.64 With This Prepaid Plan

Posted: 10 May 2021 06:32 PM PDT

Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio is the number one telecom operator of India, and for a good reason. The telco has consistently offered plans at the cheapest tariffs and with more benefits than what other operators provide with their expensive plans. Today, we are going to look at a prepaid plan from the telco that offers 500MB of data to the users for only Rs 1.64. The prepaid plan that we are talking about comes with long-term validity so it is also suitable for the users if they want to recharge with a plan before Jio introduces tariff hikes (not expected to be anytime soon).

Reliance Jio Rs 2,399 Prepaid Plan

It is the Rs 2,399 prepaid plan from Reliance Jio that offers users 500MB data for Rs 1.64. This plan comes with a total validity of 365 days, and the telco has marked it under the 'best-seller' category implying a lot of people buy it.

This plan offers users 2GB daily fair-usage-policy (FUP) data for 365 days, meaning the user gets 730GB of data with the plan in whole. Since the users need to pay Rs 2,399 for 730GB of data, it means that each gigabyte (GB) of data offered with the plan costs Rs 3.28. If 1GB of data costs Rs 3.28, 500MB of data would cost half of it, i.e., Rs 1.64.

Even paying Rs 3.28 for 1GB of data is extremely cheap, and when the user gets all this data for the long-term, it means a lot of savings for the user. This plan further offers 100 SMS/day and unlimited voice calling to the user. Once the user consumes the daily FUP data, the internet speed is capped at 64 Kbps till the time new day comes.

Jio apps such as JioTV, JioCinema, JioCloud, JioSecurity, and JioNews is also offered as a complimentary benefit with the plan.

The convenience of the Rs 2,399 Prepaid Plan

The Rs 2,399 prepaid plan from Reliance Jio is a very convenient plan for users who don't want to go through the trouble of recharging again and again. Additionally, if you want, on certain occasions, you can also purchase data vouchers if you need extra data without worrying about the expiry of the voucher. This is because most of the data vouchers from Jio that offer very little data have the same validity as the base plan.

Further, the Rs 2,399 prepaid plan from the telco would also save you from any tariff hike that might be introduced by Jio in the next quarter or the quarter after that. Overall, if you want a prepaid plan from Jio that offers a ton of data for a very low price and also comes with long-term validity, the Rs 2,399 prepaid plan can prove to be a very good deal.
