Telcos Start Intra-Circle Roaming For Areas Expected To Be Hit By Cyclone Yaas

Cyclone Tauktae hit India in a pretty major way, impacting key services, one of them being networking. In the few days since it ended, another cyclone is expected to hit India, this time by the name of Yaas. The cyclone is due to hit the country, with expected impact in eastern India, especially in West Bengal and Odisha.

Telecom companies, in a bid to ensure network stability and no loss of service, announced on Monday that they had initiated intra-circle roaming in West Bengal and Odisha, both of them having indications of Cyclone Yaas and its effects. These companies have also deployed additional cells on wheels and stocked up batteries and fuel to keep the network up and running.

The Cellular Operators Authority of India or COAI, representing the likes of Bharti Airtel, Vi India and Reliance Jio has also stated that the companies are coordinating with NDMA, local authorities and are taking preventive measures.

What Measures Are Being Taken To Reduce The Impact of Yaas

A statement from SP Kochhar, Director General of COAI states that in consultation with DoT, intra-circle roaming will be initiated in the affected areas which are expected to be hit by the cyclone, enabling any and all telecom subscribers to get on any network and not be dependent on their own network. This will ensure cell phone services are not impacted in any manner.

To add to this, CoWs or Cell on Wheels have been activated in anticipation of disruption of mobile towers. As mentioned above, diesel stock and battery backup at telecom sites are also being insured to boost network stability in case a power cut occurs

Frontline teams that are in action have also identified overhead Optic Fibre Cables (OFC) that are in dire need to be safeguarded from the effects of the cyclone and teams have been kept at standby for rapid and speedy repair as well as restoration of the networks and services.

In case you were wondering, India has already started rescuing people in high-risk areas and is keeping defence aircraft and vessels in action in case Cyclone Yaas has major effects.

The cyclone is expected to hit the eastern coastal side of Odisha and West Bengal on Wednesday, a week after Cyclone Tauktae affected the western coast, causing havoc in certain areas.

The Indian Meteorological Department stated on Sunday that  Yaas is expected to make landfall on May 26 between Paradip in Odisha and Sagar islands in West Bengal after intensifying into a severe cyclonic storm with wind speed ranging from 165 kmph to 185 kmph. It is expected to bring heavy rains to coastal areas by Tuesday.

OnePlus Nord 2/CE 5G India Launch Near, BIS Listing Suggests

Posted: 24 May 2021 07:20 AM PDT

OnePlus built its reputation based on the phrase ‘flagship killer’ due to offerings that provided flagship features for lower prices. Since its inception, the company has gone through some changes and, in 2021, the company has evolved to become a contender to the likes of Samsung and Apple, but, in doing so, it lost its low pricing model.

In 2020, the company decided to launch the Nord to cater to its older fanbase, which expected cheap devices from the company, but with good specifications and decent hardware. The Nord has gone ahead to sell quite well for the company and, it seems that OnePlus is gearing up to launch its successor in India.

According to a popular tipster, OnePlus could launch two new devices, with the rumoured names Nord CE 5G and Nord 2 in India in the coming months. Both devices have been spotted on BIS or the Bureau of Indian Standards, strongly hinting at an imminent launch.

OnePlus could also surprise its users since the devices are being referred to by their codenames, so nothing is set in stone as of now. The Nord 2 device is expected to be the successor to the Nord which was launched in July of 2020.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G, Nord 2 To Launch In India

Notable tipster Mukul Sharma tweeted a screenshot of the BIS listings for two OnePlus models, namely the EB 2101 and DN 2101. He further states that OnePlus EBBA is the codename for the former device, whilst OnePlus Denniz is the codename for the latter. The OnePlus EBBA is also tipped to be the successor to the Nord N10 5G, which never saw an India launch, with the Denniz being the Nord 2. The BIS listing hints at an imminent launch.

For those of you unaware, the Nord N10 5G was launched in the European market in October of 2020, with a North America release in January of 2021. This budget-oriented device was subject to underwhelming response in these markets, due to certain shortcomings to the hardware and software.

The successor to the Nord N10 5G was until recently rumoured to be dubbed the Nord N1 5G, but, a report has claimed that it might be called the Nord CE 5G. No additional information regarding the device has surfaced.

In March, it was reported that the successor of the Nord could make use of the same design and feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. Certain other features could include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a triple rear camera stack and a USB Type-C port. Another report mentions the chances of the Nord 2 featuring the Dimensity 1200 chipset.

Apple iPod Touch 2021 Renders Leaked on Web, Might Feature iPhone 12 Design

Posted: 24 May 2021 05:03 AM PDT

Apple iPod Touch 2021

In the last several years, Apple has yet to update its iPod Touch, but it seems that the Cupertino tech giant is planning to launch a new version of its iPod this year. According to the previous reports, Apple is gearing up to launch the next-generation iPod Touch later this year, but we haven't noticed much about the device. However, in the latest development, the leaked renders of the Apple iPod Touch have surfaced on the web, revealing the design of the device. Let's have a closer look at the latest leak.

Apple iPod Touch Leaked Renders

Twitter user @AppleLe257 has shared some of the renders of the forthcoming Apple iPod Touch created by users with the Twitter handle @Apple_Tomorrow. The renders of the upcoming Apple device showcased the iPod in five colour variants, and it looks similar to the latest iPhone 12 series. The leaked renders also show the device with square edges and a Face ID feature to unlock the device.

Going with the renders, the iPod Touch is expected to feature a single camera setup along with an LED Flash. Besides, the leak didn't reveal anything about the specifications and features of the device. There is no clue when the company is planning to launch the device in the global market, nor it has officially intended to launch the device. It would be advisable for all the readers to take this information with a pinch of salt and wait for the official announcement.

It seems that the company might add the facial reconfiguration feature, but alongside, it's also expected to increase the screen size of the upcoming iPod Touch from 4-inch to 5.4-inch. The iPhone 12 mini also features a similar display. It is not a secret that the device is a dedicated music player, so we can safely expect that the company will continue offering the 3.5mm audio output jack for headphones support. However, it's still too early to expect too much from the company; we can wait for more information from the company moving forward. Do share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Clubhouse Android App Crosses 1 Million Downloads on Google Play Store

Posted: 24 May 2021 03:51 AM PDT

Clubhouse

Clubhouse, an invite-only social audio app, has recently crossed 1 million downloads on the Android Play Store. This comes in less than a week of the app's launch on the Google Play Store for Android users. The clubhouse was originally launched exclusively for iPhones in March 2020. Since then, the app has crossed 10 million downloads on Apple's App Store. The audio, social networking app has since then grasped the attention of people all over the world, especially in the tech world, thanks to the support from industry leaders like Tesla's Elon Musk and Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg. The clubhouse is also reportedly working on introducing a payments feature on its Android App.

More on the Clubhouse App

Clubhouse App works in a unique invite-only system where new users can only gain access to the app if they are invited by existing users. Even after the app was launched on Google Play Store on May 21 and is now available for both Android and iOS, the invite-only system still prevails. It took Clubhouse four days to cross the 1 Million mark on the Android platform. However, Clubhouse App will only be compatible with devices running Android 8.0 or later versions of Android.

Questions Raised on Clubhouse's Viability

Clubhouse's decision to launch on the Android platform comes after it saw a stagnant increase in downloads on Apple's App Store. A report by apps analytics firm Sensor Tower claimed that the app saw a diminishing curve for its iOS app downloads. Following this, Clubhouse had launched a public beta earlier this month for its Android app. This public beta app was exclusively for US android users.

The drop in the number of downloads of the app on the iOS App store raised questions about the future viability of Clubhouse. It has also raised questions about whether the app's success was linked to people being stuck at home amidst the lockdown situation due to the pandemic.

Companies Launching Their Versions of the Audio Only Product in the Market

Owing to the popularity that an audio-only social app has gained, social media platforms are now launching their own versions of it. Apps like Twitter, Discord, Reddit and Telegram have launched their versions, namely – Twitter Spaces, Discord Stage Channel, Reddit Talk and Telegram Voice Chats 2.0, respectively. Instagram has also joined the already heating competition with its Live Rooms feature, which allows up to four people to engage in real-time broadcasts. Users of the Live Room feature will now be able to mute their audio and switch off their video while using the feature.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 2021 to be Powered by MediaTek Helio G85 SoC

Posted: 24 May 2021 02:49 AM PDT

Redmi Note 8 2021

Xiaomi earlier confirmed that it is working on the Redmi Note 8 2021 Edition and will launch it soon. Multiple rumours about the specifications of the device have been making rounds online for the past few days. However, now Xiaomi has confirmed the key specs of the device by releasing teasers. The teaser reveals the chipset from MediaTek that will be powering the smartphone and also shares the kind of camera the device will be featuring. Take a look at the confirmed features/specifications of the Redmi Note 8 2021 Edition below.

Redmi Note 8 2021 Edition Specifications

Xiaomi has confirmed that the device will sport the octa-core MediaTek Helio G85 SoC. This chipset is used by multiple companies offering entry-level or budget 4G smartphones. The company has also revealed that the device will come with a 6.3-inch dot drop display.

This chipset would be an upgrade for the Redmi Note 8 series. It is worth noting that Redmi would essentially be affecting the sales of its Redmi 9 series that also features the MediaTek Helio G85 SoC since users would be compelled to buy the latest offering from the company rather than go for a one-year-old device.

Further, the teaser confirms that the Redmi Note 8 will feature a 48MP quad-camera setup at the rear. The company hasn't confirmed the details of the other three cameras that will be coming with the camera. The selfie sensor will be housed on the notch at the front of the screen.

According to the teaser poster, it can also be confirmed that the device will be available in a blue colour option. There might be more colours on the plans of Xiaomi, but the company is yet to reveal them.

The older leaks claim that the Redmi Note 8 2021 Edition will pack a 4,000mAh battery with support for 22.5W fast-charging. The device might run on MIUI 12.5 out of the box. The company will be launching the device first in China. The global availability of the smartphone is unknown at the moment.

Xiaomi will have to carefully price the Redmi Note 8 2021 Edition since there is the Redmi Note 10 series as well that is priced in the budget segment. The company wouldn't want the launch of the device to affect any of its other device's sales.

Battlegrounds Mobile India Will Feature ‘Erangle’ Map

Posted: 24 May 2021 02:21 AM PDT

Battlegrounds Mobile India

Krafton has been releasing teasers after teasers of the Battlegrounds Mobile India (BIM) on its website and official Facebook page. Looking at the recent poster shared by Krafton, it is evident that the Battlegrounds Mobile India will retain the 'Erangel' map from the PUBG Mobile. But the poster reveals that the name of the map will come with a slight variation.

As per the poster, the name of the map will be 'Erangle' and not 'Erangel'. This might be to save the game from getting direct ties with the PUBG Mobile, which got banned in the country last year.

Battlegrounds Mobile India Erangle Map

The Erangle map is expected to retain almost everything that the Erangel map of the PUBG Mobile had. However, the in-game events and the basic layout of the map might have slight tweaks, nothing major though.

This will help Battlegrounds Mobile India keep the fans of PUBG Mobile happy since Erangel was the most played map of the game. In terms of maps offered, the Battlegrounds Mobile India is further expected to feature the Sanhok and Miramar maps. The names of these maps might change, but nature and the overall layout could be very similar.

There's no solid information on when the game will launch. But since the pre-registrations have already started for the Android users, it is expected that it will soon make it to India. A few days back, the company confirmed via its website that it is still discussing the possible launch date of the game.

There is one thing, however, that might be bugging the fans of PUBG Mobile in India. That is the possible chance of the game getting banned in India. Some politicians and prominent figures of the country have expressed their unhappiness with the game's launch in India. People are still tying the game with China and saying that it is just a trick to divert the minds of the youth.

However, Krafton has ensured that the game has complete independence from any Chinese ties and has assured that all the data that's collected by the game will be handled with care and in accordance with the policies set by the Indian government.

WhatsApp’s Updated Privacy Policy Deadline Extended in Some Regions

Posted: 24 May 2021 01:53 AM PDT

WhatsApp

WhatsApp had announced its updated Privacy Policy in January, for which it had to face quite some heat from its users all around the world. The users were given a May 15 deadline to accept the updated privacy policy. However, according to a new report, Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has now extended the deadline to June 19, 2021, for its users in select regions. It should be noted that even though WhatsApp had introduced the May 15 deadline earlier, it did not disable the accounts of users who did not accept their privacy policy. Even after WhatsApp has claimed that they will not disable accounts of users not accepting their privacy policy, they are still setting up new deadlines for users of select regions.

Updated Terms Comply With New European Union Data Protection Laws

WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo reported that users in countries like Germany and Argentina had received the new deadline of June 19 to accepted the company's updated terms of service. The pop-up message displayed shows the new deadline date and also states that the updated privacy policy and terms of service are in compliance with the new European Union data protection laws. Users will need to accept the new policy by June 19 in order to continue using WhatsApp. A user can choose to ignore the pop-up message for now, but if they do not accept the updated policy by the given deadline, they will not be able to use the app with full functionality.

Majority Users Have Accepted the New Privacy Policy: WhatsApp

Originally, WhatsApp had asked its users to accept the new policy by February 8. It instantly started to face criticism from its users as they believed that WhatsApp would share their personal information with its parent company Facebook. The deadline was then extended to May 15 after the backlash. WhatsApp has claimed that the majority of its users have accepted the new policy; they acknowledge that some users might not have had the chance to accept the policy yet. They also claimed that no accounts had been deleted till May 15 because of the policy, and no user in India has lost functionality to the app.

WhatsApp Maintains Its Stand on Its Updated Policy

WhatsApp has also said they will continue to send reminders to users that have still not accepted the policy. They continue to maintain their stand on their updated policy, promising that things like data relating to chats and calls will still remain safe, secured and end-to-end encrypted. According to the messaging platform, the new policy is centred around Business on WhatsApp. Contact information of users will not be shared with Facebook.

Even after explaining their stands on their new terms of service, WhatsApp was directed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to withdraw its new policy in a letter recently sent by the agency.

Airtel Enhancing Spectrum Portfolio in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Expect Better Speeds!

Posted: 24 May 2021 12:48 AM PDT

Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel, India's second-largest telecom operator is enhancing its networks' capacity with the help of the additional spectrum bought in the recently held auctions. The company has bolstered its network capacity in Southern India by deploying additional spectrum in two major states of the country including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. With the deployment of more spectrum, Airtel now holds the largest spectrum bank both in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Further, the users of the operator living in these states will now be able to experience better speeds and connectivity.

Bharti Airtel Deployed 5 MHz of Spectrum in Tamil Nadu

Airtel has just deployed 5 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in Tamil Nadu. With the deployment of this additional spectrum, the telco's total spectrum holdings in Tamil Nadu has reached 65 MHz which is the highest for any operator in the state.

Airtel had acquired large blocks of spectrum in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands in the recently held auctions. The telco has spectrum in varied bands including the 2300 MHz (TD LTE), 2100 MHz (FD LTE), 1800 MHz (FD LTE), and 900 MHz (LTE 900) in Tamil Nadu and thus is in a good position to offer 5G services as well.

Bharti Airtel Adds 11.2 MHz of Spectrum in Karnataka

The telco has further added 11.2 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in Karnataka. With the deployment of this additional spectrum purchased in the auctions, Airtel's total spectrum holdings in Karnataka has reached to 68.8 MHz. Again there is no other operator that has the size of spectrum holdings that Airtel does in the state.

Airtel has spectrum in the 2300/2100/1800 and 900 MHz bands in the state and stands ready to offer 5G services as well.

The addition of spectrum in the portfolio of Airtel across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka will help Airtel keep its premium position in Southern India. Further, the customers of Airtel will be able to experience less congested networks during peak hours of the day. The size of the spectrum that Airtel has added in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will help it boost services in prominent and highly populated cities such as Bangalore and Chennai.

OnePlus TV 40Y1 Launched in India, Check Price

Posted: 24 May 2021 12:15 AM PDT

OnePlus TV 40Y1

OnePlus has just launched a new Smart TV for the Indian market, namely 'OnePlus TV 40Y1'. It is another addition to the 'Y' series Smart TVs from OnePlus, meaning it falls under the budget range. One of the best things about the OnePlus TV 40Y1 is its premium design. Even though the company has launched it in a budget segment, users can't really say that it doesn't don a premium design. It is an Android-powered TV that retains most of the amazing features that the OnePlus TVs have been known to come with. Let's take a look at the specifications of the TV.

OnePlus TV 40Y1 Specifications

It is worth noting that the OnePlus TV 40Y1 has launched on the platform of Flipkart. OnePlus didn't conduct an online event for the Smart TV, but we can see some specifications and price of the OnePlus TV 40Y1 on Flipkart.

The Flipkart listing reveals six important features of the TV. The first one is that the display comes with the support of a wide colour gamut. This means that the Smart TV will be able to support a dynamic range of colours and will try to deliver the most accurate colours onto the pictures.

The OnePlus TV 40Y1 comes with a powerful picture enhancer that will further enhance the picture viewing experience for the user. It is powered by the Android TV platform and runs on OxygenPlay UI at the top.

As mentioned above, one of the best things about the Smart TV is its bezel-less design. The OnePlus TV 40Y1 has very thin bezels, which means users can comfortably focus on the content rather than the bezels.

Lastly, the sixth feature of the Smart TV highlighted by the Flipkart page was the support for 'OnePlus Connect', which was very obvious even before the launch of the Smart TV.

The OnePlus TV 40Y1 is expected to feature a '40-inches' display which is not bad given the price of the Smart TV. Let's finally take a look at how much the OnePlus TV 40Y1 will cost.

OnePlus TV 40Y1 Price

The OnePlus TV 40Y1 has launched in India for a price of Rs 21,999. The company will start selling it through Flipkart itself from May 26, 12 PM. Users can also get a 10% discount when they purchase the Smart TV with an HDFC Bank credit card.

Qualcomm Launches 315 5G IoT Modem, All to Know

Posted: 23 May 2021 11:20 PM PDT

Qualcomm

Qualcomm has just announced a new Internet-of-Things (IoT) modem, namely 315 5G IoT. It is a 5G IoT modem that's aimed to help with the Industrial IoT (IIoT) applications. But it is not available right away. As per the company, the 315 5G IoT modem will make it to the shelves by the second half of 2021.

An important thing to note about the modem is that it operates in standalone (SA) mode only and supports global 5G NR sub-6 GHz bands. It can even switch to LTE if required. This 5G IoT modem can be used in both public and private 5G networks by leveraging network slicing or can also be used in isolation.

315 5G IoT Modem to Help the Industry With Adopting 5G Connectivity

Qualcomm, in a statement, said that this new modem would help with the acceleration of the digital transformation of the 5G IIoT industry. This new 5G IoT modem will certainly scale the adoption of the 5G connectivity in the IoT industry.

It can help in many verticals of the industry, including construction, mining, manufacturing, retail, energy, public venues, and more. Since it can also switch to LTE whenever needed, the modem has helped Qualcomm in expanding its portfolio of LTE modems made to help with the efficient working of the current LTE legacy modules.

This would enable the LTE legacy modules in upgrading the solutions without having the need to interfere with the hardware that already exists. It will result in reduced costs for the companies and minimise their efforts in transitioning from LTE to 5G.

Qualcomm believes that this 5G IoT modem will help a lot with the Industry 4.0 applications. The company said that this solution would help in creating devices that last long and further promote expansion and growth in the 5G IoT industry.

As mentioned above, the 315 5G IoT modem won't be selling commercially till the second half of 2021. Thus if you want to get your hands on the technology, you will have to be a little patient since Qualcomm hasn't given an exact date for the commercial availability of its latest 5G IoT modem.

TRAI Needs to Lower Reserve Price of 5G Spectrum

Posted: 23 May 2021 10:49 PM PDT

TRAI

For the industry to proceed ahead with the 5G developments peacefully, the telcos need to know the new reserve price of the 5G spectrum (3300 MHz – 3600 MHz). There is no doubt that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will cut the reserve price of the 5G spectrum; the only question is what will be the final price.

The telcos need the 5G spectrum at an affordable rate so that they can make the network rollout feasible, which in turn will make it affordable for the end consumers of the technology to purchase services. According to a FinancialExpress report, the government is also of the same view that the sector regulator should bring down the prices of the 5G spectrum.

TRAI Must Consider 700 MHz Band's Price Too

It is not just the airwaves in the 3300 MHz – 3600 MHz bands but also the 700 MHz band that will need to be availed to the telcos at a revised price. This is because none of the telcos purchased a single block of airwaves in the coveted 700 MHz band in the recently held spectrum auctions because of its unfairly high reserve price.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) doesn't want to take any more chances and wants TRAI to reconsider the pricing of the airwaves. One of the biggest reasons why the government is worried about the 5G spectrum not selling is that the telcos haven't shown any pressing need for the spectrum.

Only two operators are expected to majorly bid for the 5G spectrum – Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. Vodafone Idea's (Vi) 5G plans are a little unclear at the moment. Even then, these two operators can use the spectrum meant for 4G services and optimise it for 5G to roll out commercial 5G networks.

Even though this wouldn't allow India to get the best out of 5G, the operators won't have to spend huge sums of money on the spectrum and can wait longer till the time the reserve price of the spectrum is reduced.

The regulator had recommended Rs 492 crore per MHz as the reserve price of the spectrum in the 3300 MHz – 3600 MHz bands. Since the telcos can't buy a block shorter than 20 MHz, it meant that for acquiring a single block in the 5G spectrum band, they would have to spend a minimum of Rs 9,840 crore.

Steps to Ensure a Secure Wi-Fi Connection at Home

Wi-Fi

The Internet has become a necessity in our lives, with our dependence increasing on the internet more and more every day. With a drastic increase in the use of the Internet, security while accessing the internet becomes of primal importance. The Wi-Fi network we connect to at our workplaces is highly secured to avoid any security threats to the company and its data. Such internet security should also be ensured with a home internet connection through a reliable broadband provider.

Regardless of the fact that you have an unlimited data pack or not, it is always advisable to secure your internet connection as it can have serious implications. If your Wi-Fi network is not secured, anyone can simply connect and access your personal information like your browsing history, your passwords and any other personal data that you shared on the internet. They can also access the internet using your internet connection that would mean slow speed for you as more devices are connected to one single connection. There are a lot of ways to secure your home Wi-Fi connection.

Enabling Encryption on Your Wi-Fi connection

Encryption is the most common and foremost step while setting up your internet connection at home. In simple terms, this means setting up a password to access your personal Wi-Fi network. WEP or Wired Equivalent Privacy is an outdated type of encryption that required the use of an encryption key. This was relatively easy for a hacker to guess and hack. WPA or Wi-Fi Protected Access is a newer type of encryption that succeeds the WEP technology and requires a passphrase to secure the connection. WPA2 is currently the more secure and reliable encryption available for wireless connections.

Changing the SSID Name and Disabling SSID Broadcast

Your home Wi-Fi connection needs to have a unique name of its own which is also known as Service Set Identifier (SSID). Having a unique name for your connection makes it difficult for the hackers to know what type of router you are using. Once you have changed the SSID name, you should also disable the SSID Broadcast. This is automatically enabled initially and can be manually disabled. Disabling the SSID Broadcast would ensure that only the people who have your SSID name can access your Wi-Fi connection.

Enable MAC Filtering and Disable Administrative Access

The MAC filtering feature enables you to provide access to your Wi-Fi connection to only a certain group of people. This is a great feature if you want to make sure no one other than the members of your house can access the internet. Even though the process of doing so can be tiresome, it provides great security. You also need to Disable Administrative Access, which will ensure that someone who isn't connected to your network cannot access or manage your Wi-Fi router.

Installing a Reliable Firewall

A firewall is a device that manages and monitors the traffic in a network and restricts certain traffic based on set rules. Installing a firewall can ensure that no malicious traffic goes through your network. It is equipped with preventive features that ensure that your Wi-Fi network remains secure.

OnePlus Should be Afraid of Xiaomi’s Next Move

OnePlus

OnePlus has had a phenomenal history in India. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has launched some of the best value devices in the country over the last few years. However, the fans of the brand didn't quite like its latest offering, the OnePlus 9 series. Most of the issues that occurred on its flagships were resolved with the help of software updates. However, there's still one thing that OnePlus didn't get right, and that is the price to performance ratio. There are literally devices priced lower or the same as the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro that are more powerful and comes with a better camera system. One such device is the Mi 11 Ultra.

OnePlus should be worried about this because even though Xiaomi doesn't share the limelight as much as OnePlus does, Xiaomi is no small brand.

Xiaomi's Hunger Keeps it Ahead

Xiaomi and its sub-brand Poco (independent now) and Redmi have all done well in India because of their hunger to provide maximum value to the users. The Mi 11 Ultra is a testament to that fact. Even though it doesn't have OxygenOS, the device is nothing short of a beast.

It has a better camera system than the OnePlus 9 Pro, can support way more 5G bands, and also comes with a secondary display. In real-world performance, both the devices are quite close since both are powered by the same processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 888.

But OnePlus takes an edge when it comes to the operating system (OS). The OxygenOS is one of the cleanest and the best Android OS in the entire smartphone world. For that, OnePlus deserves a ton of claps.

However, one thing that is noticeable and it is becoming more evident day by day is that OxygenOS has its shortcomings. It is not the OS itself but the bugs that the developers of the company are missing out on. Even on its older devices, such as the OnePlus 8T, the experience is still quite buggy.

OnePlus should be very careful with its next smartphone in the market. The fans are losing their love for the company. The OnePlus 9T could be the make or break situation for OnePlus in India. The company should really ensure that its OnePlus 9T that is expected to come out in October is bug-free, and the overall camera performance is also improved.

The OIS missing on the camera of the OnePlus 9 is quite strange, and that is something OnePlus needs to ensure that it includes in the OnePlus 9T.

At the same time, Xiaomi can keep launching killer devices, and with the power of the MIUI 12.5 and its clean experience, take away the OnePlus fans slowly.

Reliance Jio Was the Change Indian Telecom Needed

Reliance Jio

There are a lot of people who appreciate what Reliance Jio offers to its users, and then there are many who belittle the telco's efforts in providing a good network experience for cheap rates by saying that the company destroyed the Indian telecom industry. Many users blame Jio for the exit of several telecom operators a few years back. But Reliance Jio didn't do anything wrong. It played by the rules and came to the top because of its competitive offers; nothing else. In a complete sense, Reliance Jio was what the Indian telecom needed. If you don't believe that, just read ahead.

Reliance Jio Revolutionised the Way Indians Connect

According to a Nokia MBiT report, before Jio came to the market in 2016, each GB of data would cost an average of Rs 226. However, in 2019, the data rates fell to Rs 7 per GB. This helped people consume more data and also made online connectivity feasible and affordable for almost everyone.

Connectivity in rural areas started growing. People living in rural areas could also leverage the 4G networks of Jio for connecting with their loved ones. This change came because of Reliance Jio's cheap tariff plans. Since Jio was offering unlimited data to the users, the same had to be followed by Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) as well. This brought about a change in the tariff structure of the entire industry since Airtel and Vi couldn't offer expensive plans anymore.

India's data traffic and voice call traffic grew at an astounding rate post-2016, the year Jio came to the market. Voice calling became absolutely free, and there were no limits as well. Users could not only talk to their loved ones but also connect with their business teams any time of the day.

Why Do People Not Like Jio?

People don't like Jio primarily because of two things. A) When it came to the market, it uprooted the entire industry, and a lot of companies went out of business, and B) Its quality of network has gone down significantly in the last two years.

The thing is, Jio's not the 'bad' or 'evil' company that put other companies out of the market. The companies that went out or had to go bankrupt were simply incompetent, and this happens in business. It is important to remember that without Jio, users might still be paying more than Rs 200 for each GB of 4G data.

Talking about the quality of its network, Jio had been operating on the same spectrum resource in 2020 as it had in 2016. Because of no spectrum auctions, the telco couldn't invest in its networks' capacity, which resulted in network congestion.

However, Jio still offered the best coverage than any other operator in the whole country. It is remarkable that Jio being the new operator, expanded its network so fast that in a span of four years, it had more customers and offered better network coverage than operators who had been in the market for more than a decade.

So whether people accept it or not, Reliance Jio made it easier for millions of Indians to connect with each other, and the telco has been nothing but been a blessing for the country.
