Twitter is in a bit of a tough spot over the new laws that have been set by the government, which, if not agreed to, could result in the banning of the popular social media application. This comes a couple of days after the social media platform opened its verification feature to the masses after a brief intermission.

It seems that the company still has some things in store for its users, from the Super Follow feature to certain other usability related advancements, Twitter is heading towards change. According to a report by 9To5 Mac based on the findings of popular researcher Jane Manchun Wong, the new Super Follow ability seems to have popped up on her profile.

This comes a week after Twitter had hinted at changes scheduled for the profiles of its users and individuals that make use of Twitter to tweet about certain topics.

What Else Does Twitter Have In-Store

The report suggests that the Super Follow feature could come in two ways, either as a small button or a large one, both in a circular fashion. There might also be a feature to tip certain users, by the name of Tip Jar, which would allow others to tip a certain user that they deem worthy of their cash.

If a user activates their Tip Jar functionality, the icon for the same is expected to appear alongside the Follow button. Once someone clicks the button, a list of payment services is displayed that would allow the user to tip someone, given that they have enabled access to the particular platform.

Once the specific service or platform is chosen, the user will be redirected to the app of their choice to complete the transaction. Further changes to the Twitter app could include a change in the colour scheme, with hints of a monochrome hue to the popular application.

This comes a couple of days after a separate report suggested that Twitter is planning to make its Clubhouse rival, Twitter Spaces a monetised platform by introducing ticketed spaces, which would include a space that would require a ticket that could be purchased by paying a certain amount of money.

The Verge has mentioned that, to be eligible for this feature, you need to have over 1000 followers, you need to have had hosted 3 spaces in the last three days and be over 18 years old due to legal reasons.

Xiaomi’s Note series of devices have propelled the company to the fame that it now enjoys in the budget segment, especially since the launch of the Note 3 which was the company’s first blockbuster product.

The company has come a long way in a couple of years since, with the Note 10 series, comprising of the likes of the Note 10, Note 10 5G, Note 10 Pro and Note 10 Pro Max having been launched in the month of March on a global scale.

Ahead of this launch, Xiaomi has confirmed the existence of another Note 10 series device, namely the Note 10T via a recruitment post for Global ROM testers on its official forum.

What Do We Know About The Redmi Note 10T

The forum post mentioned above consisted of the Redmi Note 10T device. Do note that this is not the first time we are hearing about the device, since the moniker had been spotted on official MIUI codes last month.

Coming back to the forum post, it hints at the possibility of the upcoming Redmi Note 10T being a rebrand of the Redmi Note 10 5G. In case you were unaware, the Redmi Note 10 5G was also relaunched as the POCO M3 Pro 5G sporting certain minor changes under the hood. Google announced some time back that it was working on its own operating system, starting from scratch, to be called Fuchsia. This OS was tipped to be the next big thing from the company and, after a long period of wait, it is now running on proper Google hardware, specifically, the first-gen Nest Hub.

As per 9To5 Google, the tech giant has announced that, as of Tuesday, an update is being rolled out to owners of the first-gen Nest Hub, released back in 2018. This update will not change or limit any functionalities of the Nest Hub, but, it will make use of Fuchsia OS instead of the Linux-based Cast OS that was previously in use.

The company mentions that a regular user using a Nest Hub should feel that the OS is almost identical, as the company has seen to it that Google’s smart display experience is built with Flutter, designed to bring apps to multiple platforms, with one of them being Fuchsia.

What Do We Know About Fuchsia OS

Fuchsia OS was first started in 2016, with the intention of being an experimental UI that, someday in the future would be capable of running Google’s devices, ranging from the likes of the smart home devices and Chromebooks. Since its inception, the OS has progressed and, it has finally reached the point for a stable release.

googles-fuchsia-os

For those of you wondering, the update for the Nest Hub is expected to roll out over the next couple of months, with the rollout commencing first for users that are part of the Preview Program, followed by a broader release. Nest Hub owners are not expected to know that the change has taken place since the overall use case should be identical, as mentioned earlier.

Today’s release is also Google’s biggest step forward when it comes to Fuchsia becoming an operating system that can be used by the average jack. Google has stated that by testing its real devices running on this OS in the wild, it can provide its own, non-Linux operating system that can be used for smart home devices.

In a statement to the press, Hiroshi Lockheimer, Google SVP of Photos, Chrome/OS, Play and Android stated that it is not just phones and PCs, in the world of IoT, there is an increasing number of devices that need operating systems and new runtimes. Google believes that there is a lot of room for multiple OS options with different strengths, with Fuchsia being one of them.

Netflix to Expand to Gaming Segment by 2022

Posted: 25 May 2021 03:03 AM PDT

Netflix

Netflix

Netflix is one of the biggest streaming platforms that the world currently has. It competes with the likes of Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar, amongst many more. Two things gained extreme popularity in the Covid-19 pandemic situation – Online Gaming and streaming. According to multiple reports, Netflix is going to enter the gaming space as soon as 2022.
According to a report by The Information and a recent report by Axios, Netflix could offer its subscribers an Apple Arcade-like bundle as early as 2022. Netflix would include in-house developed titles and games developed by indie developers in this suite of downloadable games. A report by Reuters further claims that Netflix would also be hiring a dedicated gaming executive to handle this gaming segment.

Netflix and Its Experiments

Netflix has had its fair share of interactive content on its platform. Titles like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Bear Grylls' You vs Wild are great instances of this as they offer the viewer choices based on which the adventure entails.

Netflix has come closest to adding video game IP with a twist with the adapted Minecraft: Story Mode. All this goes to show that Netflix hasn't been afraid to experiment with the kind of content it offers its subscribers. It will surely be interesting to see Netflix as a newcomer in the gaming space as well. Other than choose-your-own-adventure style titles, Netflix offers series based on video games like The Witcher and Castlevania, both of which have gained substantial popularity in their own segments.

Things to Expect From Netflix's Gaming Segment

Netflix has refused to comment on its entry into the gaming space officially. The streaming platform stated to The Polygon that it was excited to do more with interactive entertainment. Unfortunately, that's all we know about Netflix's plans in this regard.

It would not be too harsh to assume that Netflix would have a tough time mark its stand in the gaming streaming market already occupied by giants like Amazon and Google. If it decides to offer a one-time batch of downloadable titles, the next step would be to decide its focus platforms. Games like Fortnite have been exhibited that being popular on multiple consoles, PC, mobile is viable.

Netflix's strong subscriber base of 207 million paying users could definitely give it an edge over its competitors that haven't been able to gain much popularity in the gaming segment. This decision would also assist Netflix in adding a new subscriber base that has been forecasted to be stagnant in 2021 after its boom in 2020. However, these plans seem to be "in flux" for now, according to Reuters.

YouTube, Facebook and Twitter Might Be Banned if They Don’t Comply With New Rules

Posted: 25 May 2021 01:04 AM PDT

YouTube

YouTube

Major social media applications, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, along with a video platform YouTube, might be banned in India if they fail to comply with the new intermediary rules of the government.

The new rules came into place in February and said that any social media platform that has more than 50 lakh registered users in India will need to appoint at least three officers for grievances redressal. Further, the platforms were asked to follow a specific code of conduct that was criticised heavily by the users for violating the terms of free speech.

YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Yet to Comply With the Rules

None of the platforms mentioned above has complied with the rules announced by the government yet. As per a report from Gadgets360, Facebook is currently in talks with the government over some of the issues related to the matter.

The Facebook spokesperson said that the company is completely ready and comfortable to comply with the IT rules announced by the government. It is just that the company is currently in discussion with the government, which needs more engagement since the issues are not resolved yet. The spokesperson further said that Facebook is committed to allowing people to freely share their views and thoughts on the platform without worrying about anything.

The new IT Rules 2021 direct the social media platforms to appoint three officers for grievance redressal. The first officer (specific chief officer) to ensure that the platforms are in compliance with the Information Technology Act 2000; second is a nodal officer that is available round the clock for communicating with the law-enforcement agencies; and the third officer to acknowledge all the grievances submitted under 24 hours and respond to them within 15 days.

It was mandatory for these foreign companies to assign officers from India itself. Further, the companies had to show a physical contact address for their business in India along with the contact details of the officers hired on their apps and website.

One of the rules has also asked the platforms to track the originator of a message for enabling identification if necessary. However, this rule isn't appreciated by the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) since it leads to the invasion of privacy for the users of the platform.

Vodafone Idea Does Not Call Users to Make Technical Mobile Upgrades: TRAI

Posted: 25 May 2021 12:30 AM PDT

vodafone-idea-4g-network-faster

Vodafone Idea (Vi) does not call users to make any technical upgrades to their mobiles. This is a warning that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is sending out to users across the nation.

The telecom regulator has warned users that if they receive such calls, be cautious of them since they are fraud in nature and might also attract unusually high call charges. TRAI has specifically pointed out Vi in the message and didn't mention the names of any other operators. However, it is worth noting that none of the operators call their users to make technical upgrades on their mobile devices.

It might be possible that TRAI is only sending this message to the Vi users at the moment. If you are a Vi subscriber or purchase telecom services from any other operator, remember that none of them will ever call you to make changes to your mobile devices.

Be Careful of Online Frauds: COAI

Several frauds have come to light in the past few weeks. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) had earlier issued a notice in association with the Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) that users must be careful against the fake tower installation that's going in the country.

The fraudsters were approaching the public and asking them to pay a nominal fee for tax purposes so that they can install a mobile tower in their home for which they will lease the property. However, it is worth remembering that only the operators who have permission from the state/union governments along with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) can install the towers.

In another letter, COAI was cautioning the public to stay safe from WhatsApp messages and links that are offering free mobile recharges for study purposes. The letter said that the government didn't announce any such scheme, and clicking on such links might result in loss of data for the user.

Further, the industry body is asking people not to believe in the claims that 5G is boosting the pandemic. The 5G trials haven't even started in India, and there are other countries that already have commercial 5G networks, but the pandemic is settling down. There is no correlation between 5G and the pandemic.

Tata Teleservices Coming Back to Market With a New Goal

Posted: 24 May 2021 11:57 PM PDT

Tata Teleservices

Tata Teleservices

Tata Teleservices is making a comeback in the Indian market. The telecom operator went out of business when Reliance Jio came to the market, and the eventual tariff war broke out. Tatas then signed a pact that transferred the consumer mobile business to Bharti Airtel, excluding the transfer of debt.

According to an ET Telecom report, Tata Teleservices is making a comeback in the Indian market with a new name and a new goal. Tata Sons is reviving the company and rebranding it as Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS), which will focus on helping the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of the country.

TTBS Launches Smartflo

TTBS has already launched a product called 'Smartflo'. It is a cloud-hosted communications platform built specifically to cater to the needs of SMEs. The platform stands to benefit the people who have a hybrid work culture wherein they work from home and other remote locations.

Smartflo is a very simple platform that users can access through both desktops and smartphones. TTBS will offer users call monitoring, intelligent call routing, and a dashboard to check all the outbound and inbound calls to the business. The service from TTBS will stand to benefit businesses that deal with a large number of customers/people on a daily.

The revamped entity will be headed by Harjit Singh Chauhan, president of the enterprise business at Tata Teleservices. TTBS is further looking at the 5G space to grow its business. The 5G space will be very crucial for the enterprise segment since that is where all big money will be.

TTBS can leverage the arrival of 5G in India as an opportunity to offer services to both telecom operators and SMEs and grow its business multiple folds.

For the unaware, Tata Sons had made provisions worth Rs 16,439 crore in 2020 for its unsuccessful telecom business Tata Teleservices. The total amount written off by Tata Sons had reached around Rs 60,000 crore after the provisions in 2020.

The company's comeback is with the right mindset since it is targeting a market where it can add a lot of value. SMEs today need connectivity and as much help as possible to scale their business digitally, and this is where TTBS can help them out.

Apple WWDC 2021 Event Will Go Live on June 7, All You Should Know

Apple WWDC 2021

Apple WWDC 2021

Apple has confirmed the dates for its Worldwide Developers Conference 2021. The Cupertino tech giant has rolled out emails saying that the event is slated to go live on June 7, 2021, and will end on June 11, 2021. The WWDC 2021 will start at 10:30 PM IST, and Apple is expected to announce plenty of exciting things during the event.

Like every year, Apple should announce the new versions of macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS. The WWDC event's aim is to help developers around the world understand the new technologies that Apple is rolling out. This, in turn, allows the developers to program and develop their apps in accordance with the desired ecosystem of Apple.

Apple Might Announce the New MacBook Pro

While Apple announced a major change in the MacBooks last year with the arrival of the silicon chip, the laptops still came with their old design. According to the famous leakster Jon Prosser, Apple is expected to announce a refreshed MacBook Pro with a bezel-less design in the upcoming WWDC 2021 event.

The new MacBook Pro might come in with SD and HDMI ports. Further, Apple is expected to bring its MagSafe charging technology back to the MacBooks, which will be just more convenient for the users. Apple might announce two new MacBook Pro models of 14-inch and 16-inch.

If this is true, it will be a sight to behold for the Apple fans who have been waiting for the company to release new MacBooks with a more modern design. The WWDC 2021 event will be free to participate in.

On top of that, developers will also get to communicate with the Apple engineers so that they can understand the ecosystem of the company better. If the developers want, they can also get one-on-one guidance on using the Apple technologies and for doing more.

You can expect Apple to announce the macOS 12, iPadOS 15, iOS 15, and tvOS 15 during the WWDC 2021 event. The iPadOS 15 is expected to feature a redesigned home screen that will completely change the way users interact with their iPad. Further, there might be more announcements, such as the new generation Apple silicon for Macs like last year, but all that will be clear as the event kicks in.

DoT to Allow Users Switch Between Prepaid and Postpaid With OTP Only

Posted: 24 May 2021 10:48 PM PDT

DoT

DoT

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is looking at how the users can switch between postpaid and prepaid mobile services with the help of a one-time password (OTP) only. The process was suggested to the telecom department by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). The DoT doesn't have any issues with the idea or its mechanism but just wants the operators to show a Proof of Concept (PoC) for the same. If the operators can generate the PoC, the telecom department will allow users to switch between postpaid and prepaid mobile services with the help of an OTP only.

OTP to be Treated as Consent By the User

Once the mechanism comes into place, the successful OTP will be treated as the consent of the user to switch between the mobile services. This will end up saving a lot of time for the users since they won't have to go through the same KYC process all over again when they are switching their number from postpaid to prepaid or vice versa.

Users won't even have to take out the SIM card and change it. The existing SIM card will change its nature to the desired service (postpaid or prepaid). Users will be given the option to change their mobile service through different options such as SMS, the company's website, or an authorised app.

Further, one of the coolest things about the feature would be that users will not have to wait long for the conversion to happen. According to a PTI report, the DoT said that the disruption of services while conversion of the SIM card wouldn't exceed more than 30 minutes.

So this process won't only be convenient for the user but will also be very fast. At present, if a user wants to change his/her number from prepaid to postpaid or vice versa, he/she needs to first complete the KYC process with the company. Further, the user needs to wait for a considerable time before their new SIM card is active. Wi-Fi: Some Fascinating Facts About the Wireless Technology

Posted: 24 May 2021 09:30 PM PDT

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi

The world was introduced to the Internet in the year 1983. Since then, it has become one of the most significant technological inventions in the world that has revolutionised life as we know it. The technology that delivers access to the internet to people also has advanced with time. The current and the most popular way to connect to the internet at home or at work is through a Wi-Fi connection. Wi-Fi has enabled the world to wirelessly connect multiples devices in an environment to one single internet connection. We all love Wi-Fi because it helps us get rid of wired broadband connections and know how it works. Here are some good to know fun facts about Wi-Fi that you might not know.

Meaning of the Word Wi-Fi

You might have wondered what "Wi-Fi" actually stands for. Actually, Wi-Fi is not an acronym for anything, neither does its name mean anything as is. There exists a common notion in the tech world that Wi-Fi actually stands for Wireless Fidelity. However, there are no official recorded documents to support this notion. The technical name given to the wireless technology standard IEEE 802.11b was simplified with the coining of the term Wi-Fi. The name Wi-Fi has been used in the tech space ever since the Wi-Fi Alliance of 1998.

History of Wi-Fi

Wireless connection and radio communication as a concept dates back to the year 1971. In the same year, ALOHA net, the predecessor of Wi-Fi, was commercially used. This technology for wireless transmission was first used by the Great Hawaiian Islands. It was followed by the Ethernet or wired internet connection which was then succeeded by the popular Wi-Fi technology. The Wi-Fi Alliance was responsible for commercialising the wireless internet technology through the IEEE802.11b standard, which led to the birth of Wi-Fi.

Number of Devices You Can Connect to a Wi-Fi Router

Even though you might face slow speeds just by connecting a few devices in your home to your Wi-Fi router, that's not even close to what it’s capable of. An ideal Wi-Fi router is capable of connecting up to 250 devices. Connecting these many devices may cause lags and interference in the connection; if your Wi-Fi router is positioned correctly, it can surely deliver up to its capabilities.

Different Generations of Wi-Fi

Just like different generations of mobile networks exist like 3G, 4G, and 5G, even Wi-Fi have generations. An important parameter to consider while purchasing a Wi-Fi router is the Wi-Fi standard supported. The 6th generation devices are currently active in the market, and they support 802.11ax wireless technology. Many popular Wi-Fi router brands have already introduced their Wi-Fi 6th generation devices in the market.

A Human Body Can Interrupt Wi-Fi Signal Strength

There are some misconceptions about radio frequency signals causing health hazards. While this notion might not be true even in high-speed networks, what is true is that if you stand or position yourself in close approximation to the Wi-Fi antenna, you might impact the quality of the Wi-Fi broadband signal. As the frequency keeps increasing, the wavelength keeps decreasing, which means that even human bodies can lead to Wi-Fi routers losing paths.

Clubhouse vs Twitter Spaces, Which One Should You Choose

Clubhouse

Clubhouse

Twitter recently announced Spaces, its alternative to Clubhouse which is a popular audio-only application where people can converse regarding certain topics. Recently, Clubhouse was released on Android and with it came a sudden rise in interest regarding the application and its purpose.

Now, to the concerned user, it might be confusing as to which one you should choose since Twitter is the more popular social media application whilst Clubhouse is the one that beat it to the punch. If you too were wondering as to which audio app you should opt for, worry not as we will list out which one you should choose.

Twitter Spaces vs Clubhouse

Twitter

Clubhouse is a rather new venture whilst Twitter has been around for some time. Considering the 350 million users that Twitter has in contrast to the 15 million that Clubhouse can boast of, it would make you think that Twitter Spaces is better.

In reality, though, the majority of users on Twitter were garnered due to the tweet functionality, not for spaces. Here are some ways in which, at least according to me, Spaces differs from Clubhouse, that too in a good way.

1. The first good feature about Twitter Spaces is in relation to the accessibility side of things. Users who have been on Twitter or wish to join the application, one just needs to install the application. In contrast, to join Clubhouse, you have to either wait for the app to let you in or get an invite. Whilst Clubhouse does mention that it does so to avoid overcrowding, as of now, the app seems a bit restrictive.

Whilst it is rather easy to get access to an invite, you will have to ask for the invite from a friend or colleague and, more importantly, in case the user to whom you provide the invite does something wrong on the application, his or her account remains linked to you in some manner, so it is advisable to provide an invite to people you can trust.

2. The factor of reach when it comes to the platforms also differs by a bit. On Twitter, if you have a certain number of followers, they can find you whenever you start a space by checking the top bar of the application. Meanwhile, if you want to follow someone, the room is easy to find as it is added to your calendar, but, it is also in the midst of multiple other hallways, which, after a time, seems to get confusing.

Furthermore, the categories that are on offer can be selected on Clubhouse, but they too end up amidst certain rooms that may not interest you. For example, we have interests in tech and automotive-related topics, but they end up between rooms discussing UFOs, mantra readings and heated discussions.

3. Ease of use is another quirk with Clubhouse, since it requires a separate tab for starting a room of your own and when you do enter there are limited controls. In comparison, on Spaces, you can start a room fairly easily and during the space, you can add your own reactions and DM certain people for additional discussions, with no such thing in place for Clubhouse.

4. One thing that Clubhouse does get right is scheduling since you can schedule a room for the future, whereas on Twitter the space can be started at the exact moment, meaning that if you want to take a session in the near future, you will have to tweet it out and request people to keep a note of the timing, something that might seem cumbersome to a user.

To sum everything up, Twitter nails the reach and ease of use, but Clubhouse trumps it when it comes to scheduling. To the non-technical user though, Clubhouse might seem a bit more complex than the simplicity on offer from Twitter.

Posted: 24 May 2021 06:30 PM PDT

Tata Sky

Tata Sky

Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV are two of the top Direct-to-Home (DTH) operators of the country. Both offer a perfect entry-level HD Set-Top Box (STB) to the users, which allows them to watch their favourite programs and shows in higher quality. However, it gets a little confusing for a new buyer to choose which company he should purchase an HD STB from. There are multiple things that you should consider when looking for an HD STB; let's take a look at all of them and determine whether it is Tata Sky or Airtel Digital TV's HD STB that is ahead.

HD STB Price: Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV

Tata Sky offers its HD STB for Rs 1,499 through its website. The original price of the STB is Rs 1,599, and right now, the company is offering it for a discount of Rs 100. Users can further get a Rs 150 discount on their purchase of the Tata Sky HD STB if they purchase it from the company's website online using the promo code 'TSKY150'.

Coming to the Airtel Digital HD STB, it is priced at Rs 1,300 that is Rs 200 cheaper than the box offered by Tata Sky. Further, users can also use the promo code 'ADTV10' for getting a 10% discount on the STB if they are purchasing directly from the website of the company.

HD STB Features: Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV

The Tata Sky HD STB comes with support for a plethora of features. The STB is 3D compatible, can support PCM sound, showcase movies, has parental control feature and auto standby mode. Further, users get 24*7 customer support from the company along with an annual service commitment of 1 year. If you are shifting to a new place, Tata Sky will be happy to move the connection for you there. In addition to all this, users get support for a range of other Tata Sky services.

The Airtel Digital TV HD STB users also get great customer support from the company. The HD STB allows users to watch content in premium quality, and the STB comes with support for Dolby Digital Sound. Users can record and play their favourite TV shows and movies at a later date with Airtel Digital TV HD STB. Airtel will also help you with the relocation of the connection if you are shifting to some other place/home.

Verdict

It is important to see the prices of the channel packs offered by both the companies to see which is leading. However, it would be a subjective decision since everyone's needs from their channel packs are different, so a pricing difference is quite reasonable. It is important to know that both the companies offer excellent services.

At the end of the day, it is about a few extra rupees with Tata Sky. If you want to spend less, Airtel Digital TV is your best bet. Even then, the price difference is not of a big margin.
