| WhatsApp to Limit Functionalities for Accounts Which Fail to Accept Privacy Policy Posted: 08 May 2021 07:29 AM PDT
We reported on Friday that WhatsApp had given up on its May 15 deadline, which required users to accept the new privacy policy from the Facebook-owned company, failing which would result in termination of the user's account. This did not go well with users and the public in general, with the application getting a lot of negative coverage, with most critics less than happy with what was being done. To combat this, WhatsApp printed out page long adverts to state that the user's privacy was not going to be impacted. As mentioned above, a report from PTI had confirmed the news, stating that WhatsApp had scrapped its May 15 deadline, which went down well with users, who were reassured that their accounts would not be deleted if they refused to accept the policies. It seems that this news was not quite correct, since today the company reinsured users that it would not be deactivating the accounts of those who choose to refuse the new policies, but it will be limiting the features. Constant reminders for the new privacy policy will also be sent out. WhatsApp To Limit Functionality For Those Refusing New PolicyA spokesperson for WhatsApp told Android Central that users who have not accepted the new privacy policy would be subject to an account with limited functionality. These users will not be able to access their chat list, but they will be allowed to answer voice or video calls. Furthermore, they will also be allowed to call back a missed video call or voice call, with notifications still continuing to arrive, with users being allowed to read messages and respond to the same. Do not get your hopes up, though, since the spokesperson also mentioned that WhatsApp would eventually bar users from receiving notifications or incoming calls, thus cutting off their services to the application. This seems to be in a bid to give users more time to accept this new policy, but it also forces one to do so to continue using the application, so it is technically not better than what was originally proposed. The company is still trying to create awareness amongst users in a bid to get them to sign up for the same via status updates and reminders on top of the chat list, with the company clarifying that these changes are for chats with business accounts. |
| Nokia 6600, Nokia 3660 Surface on SIRIM Certification Site Hinting at Imminent Launch Posted: 08 May 2021 04:30 AM PDT
Nokia, the company which had dominated the entire mobile phone market across the globe during the starting of the 21st century, was known for its long-lasting rugged phones. The thick, hefty looking phones were once the best selling mobile phones in all the markets. However, the craze for Nokia started fading once Samsung brought the touchscreen smartphones with the first Android operating system. Nokia didn't cope up with the market and witnessed huge losses. Now, the company comes under HMD Global, which has brought Nokia to a new avatar. The company has launched a series of smartphones under Nokia branding and become popular in budget segment phones. Nokia 6600 and Nokia 3660 Malaysian SIRIM ListingNokia has also started taking advantage of its popular old phones by launching them in new avatars. It has been highly speculated that the company is also planning to relaunch the popular Nokia 6600 and Nokia 3660 phones in the global market. Both the phones were once highly popular among the users and also one of the most selling devices from the company. So far, there were no concrete shreds of evidence about the upcoming Nokia 6600 and Nokia 3660 phones, but now in the latest leak, both the handsets are spotted on SIRIM certification in Malaysia. Popular tipster Mukul Sharma has shared a tweet with a screenshot of the SIRIM certification site. The listing reveals the model names of the phones, but there is no model number mentioned in the listing. The certification site is hinting towards an imminent launch in Asian markets. Besides, there is no information about the upcoming handsets in terms of specifications and features available on the listing. Moreover, the company is yet to reveal anything officially, so we recommend you to take this information with a pinch of salt. If the company is planning to bring back the Nokia 6600 and Nokia 3660, then it is aiming to create nostalgia among the users. This means there is a fair chance of launching the phone as a feature phone with some design changes. This is not the first time Nokia is doing this; the company did the same with Nokia 8110 4G and other phones. It would be interesting to see what Nokia is cooking in Finland and when it's going to serve it to the users. |

PUBG Mobile has been long gone from India, and the players of the game have been waiting for it ever since. Some resorted to using VPNs, whilst most had to use alternatives such as Call of Duty or Free Fire. But, that original PUBG experience was one that could not be completely met. Earlier this week, news broke that PUBG India was finally coming back to India, after an announcement late in 2020 that the game would be now be showcased as a part of video game holding corporation, Krafton. Then, we got to know that the game would be called Battlegrounds Mobile India. With the name change, some people were left perplexed over what would be new with the application and whether or not the game would be like the original game, which caught the market by storm. Now, we know the key changes to the game, after almost a year of the game being away from the shelves due to concerns from the government, which ultimately led to a ban. Free To Play, India Exclusive: All That's New With Battlegrounds Mobile IndiaAs had been talked about, the upcoming Battlegrounds Mobile India would be bringing with it many new changes and additions to the game that is present on a global scale. Krafton has announced that the game will be releasing with exclusive in-game events such as outfits and features, complete with its own esports ecosystem, consisting of leagues and tournaments catering to the Indian crowd. The game will be free to play, much like its predecessor, but unlike PUBG, Battlegrounds Mobile India will be limited to India. Do not worry, though, as Krafton has said that it will start with a series of India only in-game events at launch, which are to be announced soon. To provide some ease of mind for users, privacy and data security are one of the biggest priorities for Krafton, with the developer having announced that it will work with its partners to ensure data protection and security at each and every stage. As for players under the age of 18, the game will come with certain restrictions, with the developer stating that consent will be required from parents, with a policy in place that requires player under 18 years of age to provide the mobile number of their parents. |

It was recently revealed that Samsung was planning to make some additions to its A-series of devices, with the A82 5G having been leaked yesterday. Today, it seems that Samsung could probably bring the 5G version of the previously launched A52 in India. As per certain evidence, such as the new support page for the Galaxy A52 5G, which is now live on Samsung India's website. This does not reveal any key specifications but does hint towards a potential launch. What Do We Know About The A52 5GAs per a report by 91mobiles, the Samsung A52 5G has been listed with the model number SM-1526B/DS. This sighting comes post a report which stated that Samsung has been working on firmware development for the device. For those of you unaware, the Galaxy A52 5G was launched for the global market back in March, so we can talk about what the device might offer and hint at its price, which will be higher than that of the 4G variant which starts at Rs 26,499. The device featured a water-drop style notch and a quad rear camera to the back and also hinted at a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, which would be odd considering how the possibly cheaper A52 5G might feature an in-display sensor. |
| Band Steering Will Help You Get the Best Out of Wi-Fi Posted: 07 May 2021 09:30 PM PDT
Broadband internet has become a common phenomenon in today's Indian households. This is because a broadband connection can fulfil almost all your data requirements comfortably. Today, users can get broadband connections of up to 1 Gbps from their local internet service providers (ISPs). Since broadband internet has become common, it is important that users understand what 'band steering' is for utilising their Wi-Fi networks in the best manner possible. For the unaware, almost every modern router is equipped with band steering technology. Let's see what it is and how it affects your internet consumption. Understanding Band SteeringIn very simple words, band steering is the action of your router to intelligently connect the old devices with the 2.4 GHz network and the new devices, which can support ultra-fast speeds with the 5 GHz network. Note that band steering is only possible on routers with dual-band support; else, there would be no band to steer from in the first place. Since there are multiple devices present at your home that need an internet connection, you need to ensure that your Wi-Fi network doesn't become congested. With the arrival of Smart Home products, now even your Bluetooth speakers, Set-Top Boxes, and more require internet connectivity. If all of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices, along with other users at your home, are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, it will ruin the internet experience for everyone. This is where band steering comes to the rescue. Most of the older generation devices can only support connectivity with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. Thus, the router intelligently connects the older generation devices with the 2.4 GHz network and connects the latest generation devices with the 5 GHz network. Users don't need to manually connect to either of the networks. Depending on the device's capability, the router will direct the appropriate network band towards it. This will allow both the networks in your home to divide the number of devices intelligently and avoid network congestion scenarios. This is why users are advised to go with dual-band routers if they are using a fiber broadband connection. Of course, the users still have control over which network band they want their device to be connected with. Users can manually change the network band their device is connected with depending on their wish. Band steering technology enables users to get the best out of their Wi-Fi network at home and offices. |
| Excitel Unique Broadband Plans With 4 and 9 Months Validity Posted: 07 May 2021 06:35 PM PDT
Excitel has become one of the major internet service providers (ISPs) of the country in the last few years. One of the best things about the broadband plans from Excitel is that they come with truly unlimited data without any fair usage policy (FUP) limit. Users can consume data without worrying about the speed slowing down. Further, the pricing of the plans from Excitel is as good as any ISP provides to its users in India. Excitel offers broadband plans with validities of 4 months and 9 months. It is worth noting that neither JioFiber, Airtel Xstream Fiber, or BSNL Bharat Fibre offer their users plans with 4 or 9 months validities. Let's take a look at the plans that come with the said validity periods. Excitel Broadband Plans With 4 and 9 Months Validity
The company offers only three broadband plans to its users. The first plan with 100 Mbps comes for Rs 699 per month. For four months, the cost of the same plan reduces to Rs 508 per month and further to Rs 424 for 9 months. This means that for the four months 100 Mbps plan, users need to make a one-time payment of Rs 2,032, and for the 9 months 100 Mbps plan, they need to pay Rs 3,816. Coming to the 200 Mbps broadband plan, its monthly cost is Rs 799. For four months, the price reduces to Rs 572 per month, and for 9 months, it further reduces to Rs 471 per month. It means that for the four months 200 Mbps plan, users need to make a one-time payment of Rs 2,288, and for the 9 months 200 Mbps plan, they need to pay Rs 4,239. Lastly, the company's highest speed plan with 300 Mbps speed comes for Rs 899 per month. Its monthly cost reduces to Rs 636 when the users go for the 4 months plan and Rs 533 when the users go for the 9 months plan. The one-time payment that a user needs to make with the four months 300 Mbps plan is Rs 2,544, and with the nine months 300 Mbps plan is Rs 4,797. Note that none of the prices mentioned above is inclusive of the 18% GST that will be applicable at the time of the purchase. Further, the company doesn't offer the 100 Mbps plan with 9 months validity to the existing user base. Only the new users purchasing a broadband connection can purchase the 100 Mbps plan for 9 months. None of the plans come with FUP restrictions on data meaning users can download/upload as much as they want at high speeds for the complete validity of their plan. However, every user needs to make one time fully refundable payment of Rs 2,000 for the ONU devices that Excitel will provide with the connection. Further, the company doesn't charge anything extra for the installation of the connection. Right now, Excitel's services are only available in select circles of the country. The company plans to expand to more locations by the end of the year. |
