Apple has been making decent strides with the iPad, from offering mini-LED panels to moving to the M1 chip, but, it seems that the former may be shunted aside by 2022, as a report has stated that Apple is planning to adopt OLED displays for iPad models starting from 2022, with the first device to sport the same being the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

As of now, Apple devices that make use of an OLED panel are the 12-series of iPhones and the older iPhones, with reports having risen some time back that Apple was planning to go OLED for its iPad and MacBook models starting 2022. Another report in relation to this states that the new iPad Pro models could make use of mini-LEDs with the other models opting for the OLED.

Now, a report by South Korea’s ETNews has claimed that Apple has confirmed that it will make use of OLED displays on the iPad as the small and medium-sized OLED markets is expected to enter the second growth phase.

Furthermore, it states that Apple’s current suppliers include the likes of Samsung and LG, with both of them providing OLED panels for iPhones. They are expected to provide the panels for the upcoming iPads as well.

What Does The Report State?

In the introductory portion, it mentions that Apple has decided to make use of OLED panels instead of LCDs for some iPad models in 2022, with reports suggesting that Apple and the suppliers had agreed on terms related to production and delivery. The switch was decided when the latter proved proficiency in image quality, weight and design, as per the report.

In case you missed it, in the month of Match, a report citing notes by Ming-Chi-Kuo indicated that Apple may release the 2022 MacBook Air with a Mini-LED Display onboard. Furthermore, the report also stated that the 2022 iPad Air would make use of an OLED display. The iPads may also use flat displays to reduce overall costs.

Back in April, Apple launched the 12.9-inch iPad Pro complete with a Mini-LED display and an M1 chip, with the device being available in a Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi+Cellular version. The device makes use of a Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED panel with over 10,000 LEDs and a resolution of 2,732×2,048 pixels.

Vodafone 5G

Chinese telecom gear makers have faced the wrath of multiple telecom operators worldwide for privacy and security concerns. Even though they denied all the allegations, multiple telecom operators and the government have restricted the use of equipment developed and manufactured by Chinese vendors. In a sigh of relief, Vodafone's Italian unit has gained conditional approval from Rome to use telecom equipment made by renowned Chinese telecom gear maker Huawei in its 5G radio access network.

As reported by Reuters, Italy can block or impose stringent conditions on all the agreements that will witness participation from non-EU vendors under golden powers. The golden powers have been used by the government three times since 2012 to block foreign interest in industries that hold significant importance.

Government Prescribed Restrictions on Remote Intervention by Huawei

The deal between Vodafone and Huawei was authorised on May 20 by the government of national unity led by Prime Minister Mario Draghi. In identical deals, the government also prescribed multiple restrictions on remote intervention by Huawei to resolve multiple technical glitches and an extremely high-security threshold. However, no official statements were rolled out by Vodafone and Huawei regarding the matter.

The United States is Pushing Allies to Avoid Using Huawei Equipment

The United States has been the epitome of concern for Chinese telecom gear makers. The allegations of security and privacy threats have slashed the reputation of Chinese telecom gear makers Huawei, ZTE and more. To make the next generation networks safe and interactive, the United States is asking Italy and other European allies to avoid using Huawei telecom equipment in the development of their next-generation networks posing a security risk.

Even though Italy has not completely banned Huawei from providing telecom equipment for next-generation networks, Huawei is still facing stringent conditions and regulations in Italy. Under the leadership of former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, Rome set boundaries for telecom group Fastweb and prevented the entity from signing deals with Huawei to provide equipment for its 5G core network where crucial data is processed. Reliance Jio Brings its Magic Once Again

Posted: 01 Jun 2021 02:05 AM PDT

Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio is India's biggest telecom operator and the telco achieved this feat in less than a period of 4 years. This is a big feat when one considers it had to beat market leaders such as Bharti Airtel to get ahead in such a short time. Jio is ahead of the other operators simply because it tried to do what others didn't with the prepaid mobile market of the country. Reliance Jio offers prepaid plans with the cheapest tariffs but doesn't cut down on the benefits at all. Now, once again, Jio has brought back its magic in the prepaid market. It has brought back an old plan that was discontinued. Read more about the plan ahead.

Reliance Jio has Brought This Plan Back from the Grave

Reliance Jio last year discontinued its Rs 98 prepaid plan. It was the cheapest unlimited benefits plan offered by the telco at that time. But much recently, the telco has silently reintroduced it for the users.

Customers who wanted the Rs 98 prepaid plan of the telco can get it again from the company's website or mobile app. However, the benefits of the plan have changed. Earlier, the Rs 98 prepaid plan from the telco offered users 300 SMS, unlimited voice calling, and 2GB of data for 28 days.

However, with the reintroduction of the plan, users will now get more much more data. The Rs 98 plan now offers a total of 21GB of data. But the company has halved the validity of the plan from 28 days to 14 days. So the fair-usage-policy (FUP) data will be distributed as 1.5GB daily data for 14 days.

The users will further get unlimited voice calling benefit from the company. However, Jio has retracted the SMS benefits completely. Users won't get a single SMS for free from the company. There will be other benefits included with the plan – JioTV, JioCinema, JioSecurity, JioNews, and JioCloud.

So once again, Jio's cheapest unlimited benefits plan is of Rs 98. Earlier, post the discontinuation of the Rs 98 plan, the Rs 129 plan became the cheapest offering from the company. For the users who wanted a sub-Rs 100 plan from the company, they can go for the Rs 98 plan now.

Bharti Airtel Sees Great Future for its Banking Arm

Posted: 01 Jun 2021 12:09 AM PDT

Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel

Airtel Payments Bank, an online payments banking arm of Bharti Airtel, has a great future in the country. The business is all set to break even by the end of this financial year. The Airtel Payments Bank got a boost on the arrival of COVID-19, which pushed users to transact more online. With the banking arm of the company all set to bring in profits, Airtel is confident about its future in India. The Airtel Payments Bank not only makes the transactions more convenient but also provides users state-of-the-art safety on making online transactions.

Investments in Digital Infrastructure and Deep Distribution Working for Airtel Payments Bank

According to an ET Telecom report, an executive of the company said that investing in the digital infrastructure and targeting a deep distribution model of business has helped Airtel Payments Bank scale faster. In the previous financial year, which ended on March 31, 2021, the baking arm of Bharti Airtel saw a 60% YoY growth in deposits coming into the savings account. Further, the active revenue earning customers (RECs) grew by more than 77% YoY to reach 55 million.

In terms of revenues, Airtel Payments Bank witnessed a jump of 32% YoY to Rs 627 crore. The banking arm of the telco has helped it in reducing the customer churn rate as well. The monthly churn rate for Bharti Airtel dropped to 2.2% in the last quarter of FY21 as compared to 2.6% in the same period of FY20.

Another reason why Airtel Payments Bank saw great engagement was the introduction of Airtel Safe Pay. It allows users to leverage the network and infrastructure of the telco to safely make transactions.

One of the key reasons why Airtel Safe Pay has been appreciated by the market and the telco's customers is the apparent need for such security technology. Cyber frauds have been increasing at a rapid pace, and a security system to tackle them and make transactions safe was required desperately.

Even Gopal Vittal, CEO of Bharti Airtel, wrote to the 321 million subscribers of the company, alerting them about the rising cyber frauds and asking them to leverage Airtel Safe Pay for making online transactions.

OneWeb, Starlink to Face Competition from Jeff Bezos in India

OneWeb

OneWeb

Talks about satellite broadband companies such as Bharti owned OneWeb and SpaceX owned Starlink coming to India by 2022 have been on the market for quite some time. However, no one knew the plans of Amazon's Project Kuiper to come to India. But that curiosity has been laid to rest by a new report from ET Telecom. As per the report, Jeff Bezos plans to bring Amazon's satellite broadband services to India soon. Amazon will be talking with the necessary authorities to understand how it can sell its satellite broadband services in India.

Amazon's Project Kuiper to Bring High-Speed Satellite Broadband in India

Amazon has something known as 'Project Kuiper', which aims to cover the atmosphere with a total of 3,236 low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites. For the same, the company is investing over $10 billion. There have been no direct comments by the company on its plans for India.

However, a person close to the matter said that Amazon would be talking with the authorities and the government to start selling its satellite broadband services soon in the country. For the unaware, the Department of Space (DoS) has the authority to provide a company with the permission/landing rights for downlinking signals from foreign satellites to come into India.

A person close to the matter said that Amazon would talk with both the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Department of Space (DoS) to understand the regulatory approvals required.

India is a big market, and Amazon wouldn't want to miss out on a new source of revenue from the country. Some experts have pegged India as a crucial satellite broadband market with a near-term revenue estimation of $500 million from the industry. While OneWeb and Starlink already have plans to provide services in India, there's no doubt that Amazon will be on its toes to enter the market as well.

The satellite broadband services stand to benefit the rural parts of the country where almost 75% population doesn't have access to internet connectivity. Further, it will help tourists and businesses looking for connectivity in different areas of the country where there is no mobile network available.

If the 2020 pandemic has taught us one thing, it is that how uncertain life is. You never know where you will live and where and what you will work on tomorrow. Sometimes, the nature of our work demands us to relocate to different cities. As an aftereffect of the pandemic, many working employees relocated to their hometown as offices shut down and organisations adopted a Work from Home model. Home relocations can be due to work or personal reasons, and along with all your other belongings, you would also need to relocate your broadband internet connection.

Since our reliance on the internet has increased multi-fold with time, as soon as we relocate to a new location, relocating your internet connection becomes one of the top priorities. Here are a few things that will help you relocate broadband connection.

Raise Request to Relocate Broadband Connection

There are many ISPs in India that provide internet services in multiple cities across the country. If your ISP has a national presence, then you can contact their customer care and raise a request to relocate your broadband connection. You need to share details like your new address and what kind of broadband connection you are looking for. If your ISP has infrastructure well established in the city, you have relocated to, and then they shouldn't have a lot of problems accepting and taking appropriate action on your request to relocate broadband connection.

Compare Different ISPs in Your New Location

It might be very plausible that the ISP providing exceptional service in your old location might have services in your new location but would not be as great. This may be because their infrastructure is not well established in the new location or the presence of other better alternatives. When you move to a new location and want to relocate your broadband connection, always make sure you research the best ISP in that area. If you find an ISP providing better services, then consider choosing them over your old ISP.

Compare plans and Speed

If you are relocating your broadband connection from a smaller city to a bigger city or vice versa, you will find a change in the speeds your ISP can offer. This is because of the infrastructure layout in a particular city. Therefore, when you move to a new city, always consider reviewing and comparing the different plans offered by different ISPs in your area. You might find that in bigger cities, you get faster and more data at lesser prices as well. Select a pack according to your internet requirements and budget in your city.

What OnePlus Needs to Do Differently With the Upcoming Nord Models

OnePlus Nord

OnePlus Nord

OnePlus and its Nord series was hyped up to the extent that people were literally buying a piece of cardboard to enter the event that would reveal the Nord, with hopes of the device being reminiscent of the OnePlus that we all knew and loved.

That did not happen, with the device being much like a regular BBK electronics mid-ranger, featuring decent hardware and good software, minus the great software update support that the company came to be known for.

Following the Nord’s debut, the company released two devices in European markets, namely the Nord N10 5G and Nord N100, both of which were average at best, not offering anything that could realistically compel you to choose the Nord offerings over the likes of Xiaomi or Realme devices.

Now, the company is ready for its second attempt at the Indian market, with the former being the Nord CE 5G, which will supposedly make use of a Snapdragon 750G processor. That being said, this article is not meant to discuss the rumoured specifications; rather, the objective is to list out what OnePlus needs to do differently to ensure the success of the Nord brand and its upcoming device.

Before we begin, the above paragraph might seem a bit harsh, but OnePlus, being the company that gave rise to the idea of the flagship killer, does not look good when it resorts to mediocre or lacklustre products. The Nord 1st gen sold well in the country, but, in the words of the company’s ardent followers and fans, it did not live up to their expectations.

What Does OnePlus Need To Do Differently To Ensure The Success of the Nord CE 5G

Oxygen OS

There are three ways in which OnePlus can ensure that it does not end up ruining its image further, since the last couple of months have been anything but good to the company, with its fans stating that the OnePlus of the old days is no more. Let’s not get into that, as that is a conversation for another day; for now, let us list out the three ways in which the company can save itself from ruining the Nord.

1. The first option for the company is to take it slow with the marketing and promos of the Nord CE 5G. This was a con with the original Nord since the company decided to overhype it in such a manner that it ended up disappointing tons of users even during the launch event and especially during the price drop.

This time, OnePlus should lay low and not boast about the device; rather, it should try to provide regular hints and hope for the best, but, given as to how the company recently tweeted that the Nord CE 5G is the best device, putting the OnePlus 9 Pro’s image in danger with the tweet later being deleted, this ship has certainly sailed.

2. The second option for the brand is to undercut its rivals, which could be much more of a challenge considering that the likes of Xiaomi and Realme rule the market in India. However, if OnePlus does have a device that could be lacklustre or slightly behind in comparison to what Mi or Realme have to offer, they could just provide a first sale only or an initial discount that could propel sales by a decent amount.

Knowing OnePlus, however, this seems to be something that might not happen, with the company sticking to its plans, as it does not directly compare to Xiaomi and Realme.

3. The final and most important thing that OnePlus could and, in our opinion, should do to make the Nord lineup better is to provide better software support. In recent times, the 7-series of devices and the Nord has been subject to delayed software updates and, if OnePlus, a company known for its software, can address this issue, selling the phone well should be a piece of cake.

Excitel Broadband’s Top Offering Embarrasses ACT Fibernet’s Plan

Excitel Broadband

Excitel Broadband

Excitel and ACT Fibernet are two private Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who have an ambitious goal of bringing the best broadband services to the people of India. Both the companies have continuously invested in their fiber networks and spread business to different parts of the country. However, no second thoughts come to our mind on the fact that Excitel's top plan has absolutely crushed the 300 Mbps broadband offering of ACT Fibernet. This is because of multiple reasons that we are listing below.

Excitel Crushes ACT Fibernet in Offering the Better 300 Mbps Broadband Plan

First of all, note that, unlike Excitel, ACT Fibernet's broadband plans are not standard all over the country. We are taking the 300 Mbps broadband plan of the company that it offers to the users in the Ahmedabad circle. As for Excitel, the ISP doesn't offer internet services in this part of the country.

Starting with the ACT Fibernet's 300 Mbps broadband plan in the Ahmedabad circle, users can purchase the plan for Rs 1,899 per month. Users can also purchase this plan for long-term validities of Rs 1,627 for 6 months and Rs 1,582 for 12 months. The speed offered with this plan is symmetrical for both uploading and downloading.

Users get 3.3TB fair-usage-policy (FUP) data with the plan. Post the consumption of FUP data, the internet speed for the user drops to 3 Mbps. There are over-the-top (OTT) benefits included as well, but neither of them is actually worth it.

Let's take a look at Excitel's plan now. The 300 Mbps plan from Excitel comes for Rs 899 per month. It is Rs 1,000 cheaper than the plan from ACT Fibernet's. Further, users don't have to worry about any FUP limit on their data consumption. The company offers truly unlimited data to the users meaning they can consume as much data as they want. When users purchase this plan for the long term, they can get the monthly price of the plan significantly down. For 12 months, the same plan can be purchased for a monthly price of Rs 499.

There are OTT benefits also included with the plan. Users who purchase the plan for at least three months get a free subscription to four different OTT platforms – ShemarooMe, Eros Now, Voot Select, and ZEE5 Premium.

In comparison, it is clear that there's no way ACT Fibernet's 300 Mbps broadband plan can beat the offering from Excitel. In every aspect, the plan from Excitel is better than ACT Fibernet's offering. ACT will need to bring something else to the game to compete with other players, or else it is going to get left behind soon.
