JioFiber and Excitel Offer Very Economical Broadband Plans

Posted: 10 Jun 2021 06:24 PM PDT

JioFiber

JioFiber

JioFiber and Excitel offer some of the most economical broadband plans in the country. Both the internet service providers (ISPs) have been growing at a fast pace and expanding services to more locations of the country. JioFiber is better known than Excitel simply because of better branding and also because of being a part of India's number one telecom operator, Reliance Jio. JioFiber offers a plethora of plans, while Excitel only offers three kinds of plans. Both companies have a different approach to targeting customers. However, both of them look to provide their users with the most benefits for as little as possible.

JioFiber Economical Broadband Plans

JioFiber offers a Rs 399 plan and Rs 699 plan. The Rs 399 plan is the entry-level plan from the company and offers users 30 Mbps symmetrical speeds for both downloading and uploading. There are no over-the-top (OTT) benefits included with the plan. It is the same with the Rs 699 plan of the company.

The 699 plan offers users 100 Mbps of downloading and uploading speeds; however, there are no OTT benefits included. Both the plans come with 3.3TB or 3,300GB data fair-usage-policy (FUP) data and provide users with a free voice calling connection. Note that GST will also be applicable to the final purchase price of the plan.

Excitel Economical Broadband Plans

Excitel's all the plans are very economical when they are compared with the offerings of other ISPs. The company offers three plans with 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps, and 300 Mbps speeds for Rs 699, Rs 799, and Rs 899 per month. None of the other companies offers a 300 Mbps speed for such a lower price. Even the company's 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps plans are few of the cheapest you will find in the entire market.

However, it is worth noting that even Excitel doesn't provide its users with any OTT benefits. But, the company does offer truly unlimited data to the users. This means that there is no FUP limit on the amount of data a user can consume. But there is no free voice calling connection provided by the company.

Which Company Offers Better Plans?

Since neither of them offers any OTT benefits, the differences come down to the kind of services users get from the company. One thing is true, both the companies offer very economical broadband plans to the users. However, it is very hard to compare the plans mentioned above. This is because all of them come with different benefits.

But, the comparison between 100 Mbps plans of the companies is possible. So if you are someone who wants a fixed-line voice calling connection for free, Jio is what you should go with. However, if you want truly unlimited data with your connection, you should go with Excitel's 100 Mbps broadband plan.

It seems that with the Pandemic there has been an increase in terms of online scams, as more users have chosen to move online and get to grips with the internet for multiple uses. These uses include digital payments and verification for certain transactions. However, with this convenience, online methods for scams have also increased by quite a bit.

In relation to this, the CEO of Airtel, Mr. Gopal Vittal had warned back in May to the telco's subscribers to be vigilant and be on the lookout for frauds that work with hackers who try to get the OTP from users in order to make payments. Applications might also play a role in this.

Now, Telecom users have started receiving messages that ask users for KYC verification and the subsequent failure, with the message stating that the user will lose access to their number in 24 hours.

In relation to this,  top telcos Airtel, Vodafone and, even Jio users have begun getting messages from these scammers stating that the company official is asking for KYC verification. These messages send a number that mentions that it belongs to customer care and that users should immediately contact them.

What Does The Scam Message Include

Several users on Twitter have come out and posted these fraud messages that are asking for user details. Users can make out that this is a scam as these messages are full of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, with even the company name being misspelt at times. In case you were wondering, telecom companies do ask for KYC details, but it is via official channels and not using unknown numbers. The clicking of odd links is also not a good idea.

Furthermore, Airtel is also sending out fraud alert message that warns the customers stating that Airtel never asks the user to share their eKYC details or Aadhaar number, download any app, call from any mobile number when it comes to verification of the user’s Airtel number or any SMS that the SIM has expired. Kindly stay alert of such calls or SMS as these may result in certain financial frauds.

In relation to this, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI has also started rolling out messages that are warning users stating that it does not issue a NOC when it comes to the installation of towers and that customers shouldn’t believe anyone who approaches them with a related letter that asks for a signature.

5G RangeXtender Announced by Point 2 Technology

Posted: 10 Jun 2021 04:00 AM PDT

5G RangeXtender

5G RangeXtender

5G has been slowly but steadily growing its reach among countries along with the world. This next-generation network technology is the fastest and the most reliable connection known to mankind. However, delivering such high-speed internet at long distances has still been a challenge for 5G service providers. A 5G RangeXtender has now been introduced by Point 2 Technology, a company known to provide high-performance solutions for cloud and 5G infrastructure. The provider is headquartered in San Jose, California.

5G RangeXtender to Extend Fronthaul and Backhaul in 5G Networks

The 5G RangeXtender is an SFP28 module with proprietary electronic dispersion compensation, which will help in extending the reach of front haul and backhaul in 5G networks. This technology will reduce CAPEX and OPEX, which will result in the total cost of ownership reducing as much as 25%. The 5G RangeXtender will allow existing high-speed fibre links to increase range from 10 Km to 30 Km. The new solution will enable this increase in reach without fibre extension and compensation filters.

Two lanes of bidirectional clock-and-data recovery (CDR) and Electrical Dispersion Compensation (EDC) are combined with a CDR/retime using the PT-E1012322 EDC SoC that sits at the centre of the 5G RangeXtender. This new cutting edge technology will reduce the bit error rate and will make up for the distortion caused by dispersion.

The 5G RangeXtender will enable tests such as pattern generation and checking and local and remote loopback via a real-time eye scanner. The energy consumed by the 5G RangeXtender is about 9Mw/Gb/s with a latency of fewer than 16 ns. The PT-E1012322 EDC SoC being a tiny CSP package, can easily fit in SFP28 modules.

Increased Traffic Will Need to Be Supported After 5G Deployment: CEO of Point 2

Sean Park, CEO of Point 2 Technology, has expressed his views on the 5G RangeXtender by pointing out that once 5G is deployed, wireless carriers will need to support an enormous increase in traffic. He linked the increase in traffic with the need to upgrade data rates of their fibre links for front haul and backhaul 5G networks. He added that their 5G RangeXtender allows existing fibre infrastructure to increase reach from 10 Km to 30 Km through the use of a unique EDC/CDR SoC.

Fibre Optic Broadband Technology Characteristics That Make It Environmental Friendly

Posted: 10 Jun 2021 03:05 AM PDT

Fibre Broadband Connection

Fibre Broadband Connection

Like everything, technology also its pros and cons. While we all know the pros that technology brings to our lives, in recent years, technology has started to face backlash for its negative attributes. One segment that is majorly impacted by the growth of technology is the environment we live in. However, innovators in the tech space are being mindful of the environmental impact of the technology they create and are coming up with solutions for the same, which lets technology co-exist with the environment. Fibre Optic Broadband Technology is one step towards a sustainable future. Fibre Optic Broadband Technology uses fibre optic cables made up of thin glass strands and are of the diameter of a human hair. The Fiber Optic Broadband Technology can transmit data, voice and images at the speed of light. There are many elements or features of the Fiber Optic Broadband Technology that makes it very environmentally friendly.

Fibre Optic Broadband Technology Uses Eco-friendly Material

Traditionally, broadband bandwidth was transferred using copper wires as a medium. Copper is a metal that has to be mined. Copper mining releases chemical toxins like Sulphur Dioxide that impacted the environment and were the cause of acid rains. Acid rains not only harm vegetation but also has harmful effects on the human skin. Fibre Optics, on the other hand, are made of thin strands of glass. The natural compound that creates glass is Silicon Dioxide, which does not produce harmful chemicals.

Fibre Optic Broadband Technology Uses Less Energy

The transmission of data through fibre optic cables happens using light. This makes Fiber Optic Broadband Technology use 12 times less energy for data transmission. The higher energy required by a cable means, the more it will heat up. This increases energy consumption as an air conditioner needs to be used to avoid the cables from overheating. As fibre optic cables require less energy, they do not require to be cooled down, which saves even more energy.

Fibre Optic Broadband Technology Is a Sustainable Option

Fibre Optic Broadband Technology reduces dependency on heavy metals like lead and mercury. This makes them an environmentally friendly alternative in the long run. Fibre Optic Cables are highly resilient. They can function without extreme weather conditions, which reduces the need for frequent repair and maintenance. When an internet service provider wants to upgrade their network, they will not have to replace the wires and can simply just upgrade the technology.

Vodafone Idea Has Refarmed 3G Spectrum to 4G in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Circle

Posted: 10 Jun 2021 01:47 AM PDT

Vodafone Idea

Vodafone Idea

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has been refarming its old 3G spectrum to 4G since last year in India. The aim of the telco is to increase network capacity and also offer better speeds to the users. On top of this, the telco has also deployed additional spectrum for improving network services. Vi has just announced that it has migrated the 3G spectrum to 4G in Hyderabad and Warangal. It is worth noting that the telecom operator has already done this in the Vizag district and Vijayawada, Guntur and Kakinada towns.

Vodafone Idea Deployed Additional Spectrum

But along with completing the refarming exercise, Vodafone Idea has also deployed additional spectrum in the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana circles. The telco has deployed 5 MHz of additional spectrum in the 2100 MHz band.

This will help the telecom operator in increasing the total bandwidth offered by its 4G network in the region. Vodafone Idea has already been identified by Ookla as the telco that offered the fastest downloading speeds to the users for the last three consecutive quarters.

With the additional bandwidth and a fairly low customer base as compared to other operators, including Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, Vi's customers will get better speeds from its 4G networks.

Now onwards, Vi customers in Hyderabad and Warangal will get better download speeds and a much better indoor coverage than before. Further, the telco won't face any issue, nor the users will see a downgrade in the network's service quality when new customers join Vi's user base because of the increased capacity.

Vi's 3G spectrum migration process has already happened in multiple parts of the country. This is just a further boost to the telco's 4G networks. With the increased network capacity, Vodafone Idea is all set to comfortably add more users.

Even during peak hours, users should get great speeds and good connectivity from the telco's networks. The voice call quality for the users should also improve after the recent additional spectrum deployment by the telco and the migration of the 3G spectrum to 4G. Hopefully, in the coming days, things stay smooth for Vi, and the telco keeps on adding new customers on the back of its excellent network.

Bharti Airtel Has Deployed 17.4 MHz Additional Spectrum in Himachal Pradesh

Posted: 10 Jun 2021 01:24 AM PDT

Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel

When it comes to network experience, there are two things that an average user looks for. The first is network coverage, and the second is indoor connectivity. If both things are good, a seamless network experience for the user can be ensured by the company. Bharti Airtel, India's second-largest operator, has just deployed additional spectrum in the Himachal Pradesh circle to boost the power of its network in the region. Bharti Airtel has deployed 17.4 MHz across several bands to enhance network connectivity for its users in Himachal Pradesh.

Bharti Airtel Users in Himachal Pradesh to Get Better Indoor Connectivity

After deploying 17.4 MHz of additional spectrum, Airtel has taken its total spectrum holdings in the region to 70 MHz. The additional spectrum has been deployed across bands, including 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 2300 MHz. Further, with 70 MHz of spectrum in the bank, Bharti Airtel has the most spectrum as compared to any other telecom operator in the region.

Bharti Airtel has deployed additional 2.6 MHz of spectrum in the 900 MHz band, 4.8 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band, and 10 MHz of spectrum in the 2300 MHz band.

Post the deployment of additional spectrum in Himachal Pradesh, Bharti Airtel now has 40 MHz of spectrum in the 2300 MHz band, 20 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz + 2100 MHz band and the remaining 10 MHz of spectrum in the 900 MHz band.

With the help of the additional spectrum deployed, Bharti Airtel will be able to deliver faster data speeds and a better connectivity experience to its users. Bharti Airtel users in Himachal Pradesh will now see better indoor connectivity both in urban as well as rural areas.

The telco has over 2.98 million customers in the region, and its networks cover 95.02% of the population in the state. Further, Bharti Airtel is also strengthening its network for 5G as it also deployed pre-5G Massive MIMO in the state. On top of this, Airtel also deployed tools such as Carrier Aggregation (CA) and 4G Advanced to improve upon its existing 4G services in the state. This will improve the network coverage and capacity of Airtel's 4G networks in Himachal Pradesh. In the past few weeks, Airtel has deployed spectrum in multiple circles of the country.

Telephone Exchanges Were Converting International Calls to Local Calls: Report

Posted: 10 Jun 2021 12:56 AM PDT

Telephone Exchange

Telephone Exchange

Six telephone exchanges have been identified by the Karnataka Police and Military Intelligence (Southern Command) which were illegally converting international calls to local calls. As per an IANS report, it was an illegal network that was made to spy on the Indian Army. Two accused males from Tamil Nadu and Kerala have been arrested by the police on June 7, 2021.

The two males have been identified as V. Gautam of Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu and Ibrahim Pulatti of Malappuram, Kerala. The accused were caught living on BTM Layout, Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Illegal Network Sought Information From Indian Army About Troop Movements

Gautam and Pulatti had built an illegal network of six telephone exchanges that were converting the international calls to local calls. They used 32 SIM cards fitted inside 30 electronic gadgets for conducting their illegal operations.

Indian army grew suspicious of the calls it was receiving on its Siliguri helpline when the callers were trying to seek the troop movements of the army in April 2021. When the army conducted its due diligence, it located that the calls were coming in from Bengaluru. The Bengaluru police were alerted of the same by the army, and the police have arrested the individuals responsible.

It was a joint raid by the Anti-Terrorist Cell (ATC), which got the two accused individuals arrested on June 7, 2021. At the same time, a Hawala operator has also been arrested by the police living in Bhaktal, coastal Karnataka.

As per a statement from Kamal Pant, Bengaluru city police commissioner, the arrested individuals will be charged with defrauding the exchequer and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) by creating an illegal telephone exchange which was converting international calls that were national threats to local calls for duping the army.

The Indian Army and the law enforcement have released a separate note saying that the arrested individuals are also guilty of putting the country's security in danger. The accused have been rightly charged, given the gravity of the nature of the information those calls were trying to extract. If any classified information had been leaked, it would have put India in a grave danger.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G Specifications Leaked, Might Support Only One 5G Band

Posted: 10 Jun 2021 12:14 AM PDT

OnePlus Nord CE 5G

OnePlus Nord CE 5G

OnePlus will launch the OnePlus Nord CE 5G through a virtual event in the evening today. The smartphone has been highly anticipated because of the promise of more for a lower price. But in a disappointing turn of events, it has been leaked that the OnePlus Nod CE 5G might only support one 5G band in India.

According to the famous tipster Mukul Sharma, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G is expected to support 12 5G bands in Europe, but only one in India. To find out which 5G band the device is expected to support in India, keep reading ahead.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G Leaked Specifications

OnePlus Nord Ce 5G is expected to come with a triple camera sensor at the rear, where the primary sensor of the camera is a 64MP lens paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 2MP mono camera sensor. At the front, the device is expected to feature a 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor for video calling and selfies.

The smartphone might be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. OnePlus Nord CE 5G is expected to feature a 6.43-inch Fluid AMOLED display.

The device is expected to run on OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11 out of the box. Coming back to the connectivity, the device is expected to support NFC and only one 5G band – N78. It is worth noting that after OnePlus gave support for only two 5G bands (N41 and N78) in the OnePlus 9, the company would improve it with its other devices.

But unfortunately, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G might only be able to support the N78 5G band. If this is actually true, there is no point in even calling the smartphone a 5G device. Regardless, its other features seem to be very good for the expected price of under Rs 25,000.

The smartphone is confirmed to come with a 3.5mm headphone jack which is just sweet from OnePlus. The Nord CE 5G is also expected to come with support for the Noise Cancellation feature. Hopefully, the device comes out with support for more 5G bands in India.

India Needs to Heavily Invest in R&D for Telecom Sector: DoT Official

Indian telecom

Indian telecom

India is way behind the world when it comes to producing and manufacturing indigenous telecom equipment and products. Noting this, T K Paul, a member of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), said that India needs to focus less on the assembly department. Instead, research and development (R&D) for coming out with better and more efficient designed telecom products with indigenous software should be promoted.

Improve R&D Capabilities for Making India Atmanirbhar

As per a PTI report, T K Paul noted that India contributes only 0.15% in the telecom equipment and around 0.068% in the integrated circuits and components out of the total supply in the world. This is way too little for a country such as India, given it has all the capable engineers and people with creativity and innovation in mind.

Paul said that India is focusing just on assembly led manufacturing. While it is not wrong to do so, India should also invest in R&D capabilities and leverage indigenous software to increase its self-reliance.

For the unaware, the DoT has capped the R&D investment for the companies at 15% for calculating the incentives for eligible companies in the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. The DoT has already started accepting applications for the scheme by the interested companies.

Paul noted that since India depends on other countries for components and fabrication, it won't be able to become self-reliant until the time it starts investing in R&D for the telecom equipment and start local manufacturing of the indigenous products.

At present, 85% of India's total demand for telecom equipment is met by importing it from other nations. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global supply chain has taken a huge hit because of which countries that depend on other nations for equipment have been struggling to ramp up local production.

It has further resulted in the cost of electronic devices going higher than usual. If India wants to be Atmanirbhar, it needs to start investing more in R&D and come out with original equipment that can be manufactured locally at a low cost.

Reliance Jio Asks Questions, SBI Shakes

Reliance Jio

A few days back, Reliance Jio had gone to the bankruptcy court for wanting access to the audit report of Reliance Infratel and RCom. This is because the State Bank of India (SBI) had marked both the companies as 'fraud'. But after seeing Jio asking questions, the SBI has taken a step back and is withdrawing its allegations of fraud against the concerned companies.

According to an ET Telecom report, SBI will submit a petition to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for ending the matter. SBI felt threatened after Reliance Jio started questioning the bank's allegations, but there is a good reason why.

SBI Feared Jio's Back Out From Resolution Plans

SBI rushed to file the affidavit because it feared that Jio might back out from its resolution plans for Infratel. For the unaware, Jio has plans of buying Infratel for Rs 4,000 crore. In case Jio backs out of its plan, the money lenders to Infratel will suffer a huge blow. To help lenders recover at least some part of their money, SBI is withdrawing its allegations from the NCLT via an affidavit.

Going by the statements of people who were aware of the matter, the fear of the sole buyer backing out because the findings of the forensic report couldn't be presented in time could have been catastrophic for the money lenders.

It is worth noting that NCLT has already given its approval for the resolution plans of the company. Jio had requested the bankruptcy court for seeing the audit that was done by the three Indian banks, including SBI, Indian Overseas Bank, and the Union Bank of India.

The banks had discovered unusual transactions of Rs 5,500 crore in the three companies of Anil Ambani. Jio asked the court that if the banks had discovered the unusual transactions back in October 2020, why didn't they come out with the information sooner. If the resolution process gets delayed further, SBI would be the most hurt since it had loaned over Rs 12,000 crore to bankrupt telcos, including RCom and Aircel.

The court had asked Jio to furnish a copy of its application to all the concerned companies/parties, including the Committee of Creditors (CoC). The next hearing on the matter is scheduled for today.

Facebook About to Change the Smartwatch Game

Facebook

In February, we reported that Facebook is expected to come out with a new smartwatch powered by Android. It was unclear whether Facebook was planning to use its own custom skin or go with Google's Wear OS. Regardless, new information related to the smartwatch has come up, thanks to The Verge.

As per the publication, Facebook's smartwatch might come with two cameras. You heard it right, 'TWO' cameras. Further, the smartwatch might come with a detachable display. Users might be able to run applications such as Facebook and Instagram directly on the smartwatch.

Facebook Smartwatch Will Come With a 1080p Resolution Camera

Facebook's smartwatch is expected to come with a 1080p resolution front camera so that the user can make the video call directly from the watch itself. The rear camera is expected to come with support for auto-focus and might work the same way cameras work in a smartphone.

For connectivity, the smartwatch may come with LTE support. It is expected to come with support for basic fitness and health features such as a heart-rate monitor and more. Facebook might empower the smartwatch with features that would help it in connecting with the augmented reality (AR) glasses.

Facebook to Compete With Apple Watch

Facebook's smartwatch so far sounds very cool and the speculated cameras make it even more interesting. With LTE support and everything, Facebook's smartwatch might be able to beat the Apple Watch. This is just an assumption though. A lot will depend on how good the hardware from the company is, how good the design of the smartwatch is, and how well its software performs.

Apple Watch is one of the best smartwatches in the entire world. The only way Facebook can make a noise in the market with its smartwatch is to price it lower than the premium Apple and Samsung Watch and give features that none of the other smartwatches come with.

According to The Verge report, Facebook might launch its smartwatch near the $400 mark (approximately Rs 30,000) which seems like a decent price point. It will be in the premium category but still won't be as expensive as the Apple Watch. There's no confirmation on when Samsung will come out with the smartwatch.
