| JioFiber Postpaid Is Here to Compete With Airtel Xstream Fiber Posted: 15 Jun 2021 07:35 AM PDT ![]()
It has been revealed that Jio’s JioFiber plans which are now postpaid will be symmetrical, meaning that users will be offered equal upload and download speeds, which should ensure parity during both tasks. Furthermore, it has surfaced that JioFIber will not require any sort of upfront cost for the setting up of the service, which essentially means that the user will not be required to pay a security deposit for the internet privileges and be omitted from having to pay any installation charges, which results in a net saving of Rs 1,500, which is quite a decent amount. As part of the company’s JioFiber postpaid service, the telco will provide a 4K set-top-box at no additional or extra cost, with a Rs 1,000 refundable security deposit for apps that offer OTT services as well as access to up to 15 paid OTT applications on the Rs 999 and above plan, which should work to the benefit of the user. What Else Do We Know About the Prepaid Fiber PlansThe telco will also offer the convenience of autopay payment of bills, meaning that you will not have to be bothered by constant payments of the plan. The Postpaid service will be available for subscription starting from 17 June 2021, which is Thursday. In case you missed it, the largest telco in the country had recently launched five new Jio Freedom prepaid plans that are priced between Rs 129 and Rs 2,397, with validities of 30 days, instead of the 28-days and multiple validity plan that was on offer earlier, which had been subject to complaints from the users. The company has also announcing unlimited voice benefits alongside uncapped daily data with the new prepaid plans, in a bid to gain more users at a time when internet consumption in the global scenario is at its peak. To add to this, the plans also offer the user access to Jio’s information and utility apps which include the likes of JioTV, JioCinema, JioNews, amongst other such services.
| OnePlus Pushes Limits of Budget 5G Segment With $240 Nord N200 5G Posted: 15 Jun 2021 07:15 AM PDT ![]()
OnePlus has been under flak for multiple reasons in recent times, one of the key ones being in relation to OnePlus and its increasing prices, considering how its top flagships are nearing the $1000 mark in some markets. Even in India, the products are no longer as cheap as they used to be, with the price trends having changed by a drastic amount. The Nord lineup from the company did change things up, with the products being under the $500 mark and, at least with the OG Nord, offering a product that is well worth its price. Today, OnePlus took this a step further by launching a cheap 5G device in the US, a market that did not get access to the OnePlus Nord in 2020. The Nord N200 5G was recently announced, with the device priced at $240 and going on sale starting June 25th, 11 AM ET in the North American market. In case you did not know, the pricing of the N200 5G is quite close to the original N100, with similar specs for certain features. Nord N200 5G: Specifications
When it comes to the specifications, the Nord N200 5G makes use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G chipset, with the same 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage configuration that was present on its predecessor. The N200 5G also has a 5,000mAh battery, much like the N100. The device also has support for 18W fast charging and includes a 6.49-inch Full-HD+ display with support for a refresh rate of 90Hz. In terms of the optics, the device makes use of a triple camera setup, with a primary 13MP sensor and two additional sensors, presumed to be a macro sensor and a bokeh or depth sensor. Towards the front, there is a 16MP selfie sensor. The phone also has a triple rear camera headed by a 13MP main camera – presumably, the other two are macro and a bokeh (depth) sensor. There's also a 16MP front-facing camera in a punch-hole. Much like the N100 that was launched in 2020, the N200 5G will be on offer in the US via T-Mobile and Metro and retailers such as Amazon, B&H and Best Buy. The device is on offer in just one colour variant, which is dubbed Blue Quantum. For the price, the specifications are not the best, but, in the US market, it is quite a compelling buy. Whether or not the device will be launched in India remains to be seen, with no hints or promotional material indicating a probable arrival in the country.

| Reliance Jio 5G Trials Have Started in Mumbai Using Indigenous Equipment Posted: 15 Jun 2021 03:32 AM PDT ![]()
Reliance Jio has started its 5G trials in Mumbai using indigenously developed telecom equipment. The company will be partnering up with other telecom vendors, including Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung, to conduct trials in other parts of the country. According to an ET Telecom report, Reliance Jio is using spectrum in both mmWave and mid-bands for conducting the trials in Mumbai. A senior executive aware of the matter said that the 5G networks for testing went live quickly as soon as the spectrum was assigned by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Reliance Jio Using Indigenous Equipment for 5G TrialsThe executive said that Reliance Jio is using locally manufactured telecom equipment for testing its 5G networks. One of the highlights shared by the executive was that Jio's 5G trial is much bigger than what its rivals are doing in terms of the number of sites deployed in Mumbai. The executive further said that Jio would soon start the 5G trials in other parts of India as well. Reliance Jio had applied for conducting 5G trials in Gujarat, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. It is worth noting that this development comes just a day after Bharti Airtel announced that it has started testing 5G networks in Gurgaon's Cyber Hub. For the unaware, the telecom department had recently allocated spectrum in several frequencies, including 26 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 700 MHz, to the telcos so that they could conduct 5G trials. Bharti Airtel's 5G network site is operating in the 3500 MHz band, and with that, the telco could deliver a throughput of 1 Gbps speeds. It is worth remembering that Reliance Jio had already developed an end-to-end 5G stack including 5G radio and core network solutions which the telco will be using in the rollout of its 5G network throughout India. The testing of the 5G radio and core solution proved to be successful for the telco, which will help it in making the next-generation network rollout cost-effective as well. Jio is also working with other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for ensuring that the 5G device configurations are standardised. Further, Jio is also working with Qualcomm to localise the manufacturing of 5G products and equipment.
| Bharti Airtel Deploys Additional Spectrum in Odisha Posted: 15 Jun 2021 02:59 AM PDT ![]()
Bharti Airtel has just deployed additional spectrum in Odisha. The second-largest telecom operator has already deployed additional spectrum purchased from the recently held auctions in multiple parts of the country. Odisha becomes the latest state/circle to see additional spectrum deployment from Bharti Airtel. Post the spectrum deployment, users consuming services of Bharti Airtel will see better connectivity during peak hours. In an announcement, Bharti Airtel said that it has deployed additional spectrum in Odisha in the 900 MHz frequency band. The telco has added 5 MHz of additional spectrum in the said frequency band. But this is not all; the telco is also adding more spectrum in the higher frequency band in the state. Bharti Airtel Adding More Spectrum in the 2300 MHz BandBharti Airtel will be further deploying additional spectrum in the state in the 2300 MHz band. The telco said that it has already started deploying additional 10 MHz of spectrum in the 2300 MHz band in Odisha. Once the additional spectrum in the 2300 MHz band is deployed in the circle, Bharti Airtel customers will be able to enjoy better internet speeds and a stronger coverage experience. Even users travelling on the highways of the state or through trains will be able to connect to the telco's network easily through their smartphones. For the unaware, Bharti Airtel had acquired 16.4 MHz of spectrum in Odisha in the auctions that took place recently. It took the total spectrum holdings for Airtel in the state to 63.8 MHz. It is noteworthy that none of the other operators, including Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has this much spectrum in the state. Bharti Airtel has spectrum across several frequency bands, including 900/1800/2100/2300 MHz bands. This has put the telco in a good position to build a base for offering 5G services in the near future. The telco has time and again said that its network is 5G ready. In fact, Airtel is already testing its 5G network in Gurgaon's Cyber Hub and was able to deliver a throughput of 1 Gbps downloading speeds and close to 100 Mbps upload speeds. With the deployment of additional spectrum in the 900 MHz band, Airtel users will be able to consume the network services of the telco with a great connectivity experience even when indoors.
| India Witness Spike in 5G Smartphone Sales Despite Absence of Networks Posted: 15 Jun 2021 01:54 AM PDT ![]()
India's appetite for the adoption of the 5G network is pacing up as the demand for 5G smartphones is tearing the roof. Even though India is yet to witness the next generation of technology, consumers are inclining towards buying 5G smartphones to prepare themselves for the benefits that the 5G wave will offer. The renowned research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) has predicted that the share of 5G-enabled smartphones from the total chunk of smartphones sales will touch 20-25% this year. Another joint report by Realme and Counterpoint Research reveals that even in the absence of a 5G network, the share of 5G smartphones sales in India reached 7%, and it might hit 21% for the full year. 5G Smartphones Pricing Directly Competes With 4G Smartphones VariantOne of the major reasons for thriving smartphones sales in the Indian market is the competitive pricing with 5G variants. The renowned smartphones brands Xiaomi, OnePlus, Apple and more are offering 5G smartphones in the mid-premium and premium range above Rs 30,000 price range. On the other side, brands like Oppo and Realme have already launched their 5G smartphones at the Rs 15,000 price range. Prabhu Ram, who is the head-industry intelligence group Cybermedia Research (CMR), stated that a major chunk of consumers are opting for 5G smartphones to be future-ready, whereas some stance of the population is adopting 5G smartphones to make a lifestyle statement. 5G is Luxury Feature in IndiaCMR revealed that in India, 5G-readiness is one of the top three buying considerations that pairs with battery life and smartphone brand imagery. One of the analysts also stated that 5G is a luxury feature in India which consumers are opting to be future-ready. Brands like Oppo and Realme are already using 5G as a selling feature and making affordable 5G smartphones under the price range of Rs 15,000. It is also expected that 5G phone sales will account for nearly 32% of total sales in CY 2022. As per Realme reports, 4G required four years to reach 200 annual shipment units, whereas the 5G has hit the target in just half period, which is impressive considering the bloodbath that the entire globe experienced in 2020.
| 6G Commercial Rollout Expected in 2029 Believes LG Posted: 15 Jun 2021 01:25 AM PDT ![]()
While countries and companies around the world are gearing for introducing 5G networks for their people and customers, there are some who are already focusing on 6G. LG Electronics, which saw a sad end for its mobile enterprise, is now focusing its resources on the research and development for 6G technologies. As per LG, the 6G is expected to be commercialised by the year 2029. According to the Yonhap news agency, the standardisation of 6G technology is expected to start as early as 2025. Prominent LG Researcher to Lead Alliance for 6G Tech in the U.S.According to an IANS report, a prominent researcher of LG, Lee Ki-dong, was appointed as the head for the Applications working group in the Next G Alliance. Lee Ki-dong has been given two years to lead the working group that will research and come up with the application needs related with 6G. For the unaware, the Next G Alliance is a fairly new body that was launched back in October 2020 by the US-based Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS). The aim of the body is to research as much as possible about 6G and address the application needs related to the successor of 5G. It is worth noting that the Next G Alliance has a total of six different working groups that are comprised of 48 companies from telecom, semiconductor, and software fields acting as members. If LG is to be believed, commercial 6G networks would be available for the citizens starting 2029. This comes at a time when even 5G hasn't been made available in several parts of the world. Only time and the near-term developments will tell if 6G rollout is possible as early as 2029. 6G would be even better than 5G. Its use cases will surpass just the Internet-of-Things (IoT) and more that 5G brings into play. With 6G networks, users will get even faster Internet speeds with lower latency which will be able to bring Ambient Internet-of-Everything (A-IoE) to life. LG has already established a 6G research center with KAIST in 2019. The company had signed an agreement with the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science as well last year to study 6G technologies.

| OneWeb Takes a Step Into the Future Posted: 15 Jun 2021 12:19 AM PDT ![]()
OneWeb, a Bharti Airtel backed satellite broadband company is moving fast with its business in India. The company has recently applied for a global mobile personal communication (GMPCS) license so that it can provide satellite broadband services in the country. This move makes OneWeb the first satellite broadband company to apply for a license in India. According to a FinancialExpress report, OneWeb wants to start the preparations for providing services in India and is looking to lay down the basic infrastructure required for offering satellite broadband services. OneWeb Might Get the License, But the Spectrum Confusion is Still ThereFor the unaware, a small battle between the telecom companies including Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and the Broadband India Forum (BIF) has been going on related to the spectrum. It is worth noting that even if OneWeb is successful in acquiring the license, it won't be able to get the spectrum. This is because the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Central government haven't decided whether the spectrum for the satellite services need to be auctioned or just allocated. The telecom operators believe that the spectrum should be auctioned where both the telecom service providers (TSPs), as well as satellite broadband internet service providers, should be allowed to participate so that they can bid for the frequencies they need. But at the same time, BIF believes that the spectrum should be allocated to the satellite broadband service providers and not auctioned. OneWeb has plans of starting services in India by mid-2022. At present, OneWeb has 238 operational low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites in the atmosphere. By the end of June 2021, that number is all set to increase by 36 satellites. SpaceX owned Starlink also plans to start providing satellite broadband services in India during the same period as that of OneWeb. However, the company is yet to apply for the license. There are some more companies that are interested in entering the satellite broadband services market in India including Amazon's Project Juniper, US' Viasat, and Hughes. It is worth noting that Bharti Airtel hasn't shown where it stands in the matter of spectrum being auctioned or allocated to the satcom companies. Airtel's silence might be an answer in itself!

| Samsung Announces New Multi-Chip Package for 5G Phones Posted: 14 Jun 2021 11:49 PM PDT ![]()
The South Korean tech giant Samsung has just announced a new multi-chip package (MCP) for 5G smartphones. This is Samsung's effort in improving the customer experience by offering better performance speeds to the next-generation smartphones. According to an IANS report, Samsung has already started mass producing low-power double data rate 5 (LPDDR5) UFS (universal flash storage) MCP that will integrate NAND flash memory chips and DRAM in a single package. This is bound to improve the performance of smartphones quite significantly. Samsung's LPDDR5 Mobile DRAM Can Read/Write at 25 GbpsThe biggest highlight of the LPDDR5 mobile DRAM from Samsung is just how fast its read and write speed is. In comparison to the LPPDR4X, the LPDDR5 mobile DRAM from Samsung is 1.5 times faster. Samsung's LPDDR5 mobile DRAM can read and write at a speed of 25 Gbps. This, coupled with the UFS 3.1 NAND flash (3 Gbps speed), which is double the speed of the earlier UFS 2.2 solution, will provide the smartphones with more power and enhance their performance. The South Korean tech giant will be offering multiple solutions and storage capacity configurations to its customers with diverse needs. Samsung will be offering DRAM ranging from 6GB to 12GB and NAND flash ranging between 128GB and 512GB. According to a report from Yonhap news agency, Samsung's LPRDD5 uMCP will enable users to consume high-quality 5G content services if they are in a stable condition even with a low-tier 5G smartphone. Not only this, but the new uMCP will also allow the smartphone manufacturers to save crucial space inside the device. It measures only 11.5 mm by 13 mm. This will further allow the manufacturers to innovate with the design of the smartphone as much as they can. Samsung has said that the tests of the compatibility of the new LPRDDR5 uMCP have been completed with the help of several smartphone manufacturers around the world. As per the South Korean tech giant, the new uMCP will start coming with the new devices in the global markets starting this month. There was no clarification on which smartphone will be the first one to equip it, but the company expects it to come to the global markets this month itself.
| Spectra, You Broadband and Others Join Hands to Form a New Industry Body Posted: 14 Jun 2021 10:56 PM PDT ![]()
The era of fixed-line broadband is very much in the beginning phase only with more and more people migrating to fibre connections. Multiple internet service providers (ISPs) including ACT Fibernet, BBNL, You Broadband, Shyam Spectra, and more have joined hands together to form a new industry body that will represent the interests of fixed-line broadband service providers in the country. As per an ET Telecom report, this body will aim to drive the promotion of fixed-line internet across India. The new body will be called the 'All India Fixed Internet Service Providers Association (AIFISPA). Other Members of the BodyThe other members of the body will include Vizag Broadcasting Company, D-Vois, Microsense, Mithril Telecommunications, Pioneer Labs, and Bell TeleServices. The purpose of the body is to not only drive the promotion of fixed-line internet but also help other bodies in taking the decision that will shape the future of connectivity in India. AIFISPA will seek to help government policymakers such as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), State Governments, Ministry of Finance, and other public organisations to help India become a Digital country as fast as possible. Because of the pandemic and more people working and learning from their homes, the need for fixed-line broadband connectivity increased since people couldn't rely on the congested mobile networks for a seamless internet experience. In the last 15 months, broadband data consumption has gone up significantly higher than what it used to be pre-pandemic. This calls for the need to set up such a body that will overlook all the interests of the fixed-line internet service providers in the country. A statement from the body says that the broadband industry is going to help the government a lot with its vision of fibre-optic infrastructure present across India. Hence the body has been formed to overlook all the measures that the government is taking as well as other companies are taking to enhance fixed broadband connections in India. Further, the body will seek to spread the fibre infrastructure in parts of India that still don't have proper mobile network and broadband connectivity.
| Maximise Home Broadband Connection to Work From Home With These Steps Posted: 14 Jun 2021 09:30 PM PDT ![]()
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic brings a lot of uncertainty to our future. In the current scenario, various cities and countries are still under lockdown, and offices are shut. This directly translates to a prolonged phase of working from home for millions of working professionals all over the world. Working from home is challenging as it is in an environment of a noisy house with distractions. Another challenge that can add heat to your worries is a slow broadband connection. A slow internet connection can not only reduce productivity but can also seem unprofessional. Here are few steps you can follow to make sure you are maximising the potential of your broadband connection. Rethink Your Router Placement and PositionIt might not look like it makes a lot of difference, but your broadband router's placement and position plays a vital role in your broadband connection. The first thing to note when considering your router's placement is to not place it near your electronic devices. Keeping your router close to electronic devices may cause electromagnetic disturbances in the broadband connection, which will not only impact the stability but also the speed of your internet connection. While figuring out a new place for your router, look for open spaces so that the signal can easily reach your device. Always keep your router in an upright position. Watch Your Internet UsageInternet Service Providers have now started offering truly unlimited broadband data packs. This has made us carefree in terms of our internet usage. Even if you might be subscribed to an unlimited data pack option, the speed of your broadband connection will be impacted drastically if multiple devices are connected and accessing the internet at the same time. One of the functions of a router is to manage bandwidth between the connected devices. The more devices you connect to your router, the more your internet bandwidth will get divided and become slow. If you are using your broadband connection to work from home, you should always keep a check on how many devices are connecting and using your broadband connection at the same time. Increase Your Broadband Connection SecurityYour broadband connection's security is of prime concern for multiple reasons. Compromised broadband security can allow other unknown users to connect to your broadband connection. This enables these unidentified users to not only access your internet but also give them access to your personal information like browsing history, I.P address and much more. To avoid your broadband security from being compromised, choose a complex password that is not easy to crack. As an additional level of security, also consider installing anti-virus software that will protect your device, router and data from a security breach of any kind.
| Beats Studio Buds Look to Emulate Apple AirPods Success Posted: 14 Jun 2021 08:00 PM PDT ![]()
Beats as a company have always faced some critique for offering products at exorbitant prices that do not offer features that might truly warrant the price difference that these products had with other market offerings from the likes of Samsung, Bose, Sony and a couple of other brands. That being said, ever since it was purchased by Apple, there have been higher expectations from the company, especially considering how the company that owns Beats is responsible for one of, if not the most influential audio product in recent years, with the Apple AirPods having set the market alight back in 2016 and having caused multiple clones, that, too this day fail to match the success that the original AirPods had and, maintain even in 2021. It seems that Beat might be expecting such a trend to occur at their second attempt at making a truly wireless earbud, as the company launched the Beats Studio Buds late on Monday. The Buds are priced at $149.99 and are on offer in three different hues, namely red, black, or white. In terms of the key differences from the first attempt at making truly wireless earbuds, the Studio Buds offer a different yet more compact design than the older Powerbeats Pro. These buds also lack any ear hooks and they do away with the stem design on the AirPods. What Do We Know About the Beats Studio Buds
This results in quite a lightweight and comfortable fit. Preorders have started since yesterday in the US and Canada via Apple and other retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy, with the earbuds set to be available in stores on June 24th. Talking about the specifics, the Studio Buds offer active noise cancellation, IPX4 water as well as sweat resistance, and can run for up to 5 hours on a single charge, with noise cancellation on. When noise cancellation is turned off, the buds can stretch out to provide 8 hours of continuous use. The buds also make use of USB-C based charging, but there is no support for wireless charging. Do note that the earbuds can be used in single ways, as in one bud can be used at a time, rather than having to use both earbuds at once. The most shocking feature is that Beats supports both iOS and Android features with the Studio Buds. The Buds on iPhone provide a simple, AirPods like setup and have integration with the Control Center, with Hey Siri commands on offer. In contrast, on Android, the Buds work with Google’s Fast Pair and Find My Device feature seamlessly. Beats has also released a fresh acoustic architecture design for the Studio Buds, which make use of 8.2-millimetre drivers with the company claiming that you can expect outstanding stereo separation and low harmonic distortion across the frequency curve so you hear every note.
| BSNL 4G Plan That Comfortably Beats Jio’s New Rs 247 Offering Posted: 14 Jun 2021 06:30 PM PDT ![]()
Just a couple of days back, Reliance Jio came out with new prepaid plans that offered users data without any daily fair-usage-policy restrictions. These plans are good for people who don't want to be restricted by a certain data limit if they have the need for more data on a given day. But BSNL's data voucher very comfortably beats Reliance Jio's Rs 247 plan launched recently. The BSNL's voucher is not only cheaper but also offers more data compared to Jio's plan. Here's all that you need to know about this. BSNL 4G Rs 151 Voucher Beats Jio's Rs 247 PlanBSNL last year announced work from home data vouchers to help users with getting more data for carrying out their work seamlessly from their homes. One of the 4G data vouchers announced at the time was the Rs 151 plan. The Rs 151 plan BSNL 4G plan offers users 40GB of data along with a free Zing subscription. It comes with a validity of 28 days. In comparison, the Rs 247 plan from Reliance Jio comes with 30 days of validity and offers users 25GB of data which is 15GB lesser than what BSNL provides to its users for almost Rs 100 lesser than Jio. But there are a few things that you need to consider. Reliance Jio's Rs 247 plan also comes with 100 SMS/day and truly unlimited voice calling benefit for 30 days. On top of this, users also get a free subscription to the complimentary Jio applications. However, a user can simply purchase a cheap talk-time pack and an SMS pack from BSNL and still spend less than Rs 247 with Jio's plan. The prominent thing here is that the user would get a lot more data with the BSNL's plan for a lot less. If the user wants only data and is ready to invest his money in the Rs 247 plan from Reliance Jio, he/she can also consider the Rs 251 work from home BSNL 4G plan. This plan from BSNL is only Rs 4 more expensive than Jio's plan but offers 70GB of total data for 28 days. A thing worth noting here is that while BSNL plans are cheaper and provide more data, they come for a validity of 28 days and not 30 days, as in the case of Jio's plans. Further, the BSNL plans don't even have voice calling and SMS benefits. So BSNL 4G plans are only ahead of Reliance Jio's Rs 247 plan when the data is concerned. When it comes to overall benefits, Jio's plan stays comfortably ahead. Further, the data speed with Jio's plan will be much better than what you get with BSNL's plans.
