| Nothing Will Not Be Launching Its Product in June Posted: 20 Jun 2021 07:30 AM PDT ![]()
Ex-OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei who quit the company back in 2020 to start Nothing and take on the role of CEO for Nothing has had some tough months in store, preparing for the first launch from the company. The company has always been under the scanner ever since its inception due to the expectations that come with Pei, who himself has been responsible for a company that has been a fan favourite for the last couple of years. In relation to Nothing, Pei had confirmed that the company would be launching its first truly wireless earbuds or TWS in the month of June in 2021. Details in relation to the upcoming TWS have been teased and leaked time and again with expectations regarding a launch in June, as mentioned above. Are the Nothing Ear 1 TWS Delayed? However, it seems that fans of the new company will have to wait for its first product, as it was revealed that the company would be delaying the launch of its first product with a clarification coming from the Founder himself. Carl Pei, the CEO of Nothing, announced that the company's first launch would be delayed. Pei did not mention the reason behind the delay but confirmed that the Ear 1 TWS would be launched later this summer. Pei also stated that there were a few things that were left to finalise, and therefore the company had decided to delay the launch. There is still no date regarding the launch, at least as of the time of writing this article. In terms of the product itself, the company has remained mum about the product, with the TWS having been expected to feature some elements of Concept 1 that was teased back in the month of March. The concept had been designed with three principles in mind, namely Weightless, Timeless, and Effortless. Regarding why this delay might be caused, we can speculate that it could be in relation to the lack of parts that have been caused due to the pandemic, but, until and unless the company clarifies, this will remain as speculation and as such, take it with a pinch of salt. At the time of the reveal, Pei had stated that Design was still top secret but what the company can tell the users is that Ear 1 will combine notes of transparency, iconic form, and refined functionality. The product is the starting point that will define the artistry, confidence and craftsmanship that will carry Nothing’s products and services for years to come. Furthermore, the Ear 1 had previously been listed on the Bureau of Indian Standards or BIS website under the model number B181. The charging case's batteries had also been spotted on the BIS at a later date. These devices, which had been listed as power banks, featured the model number B181-C and B181-1. |
| Vodafone Idea Is a Powerful Contender to Incumbent Telecom Operators Posted: 20 Jun 2021 04:30 AM PDT ![]()
The telecom industry is rife with reports and updates of the intensifying competition between the stakeholders. While Reliance Jio remains at the top in almost all matters of 4G, the rest of the competitors cannot be dismissed ignorantly. A week or so ago, I discussed the contentious points which have made Bharti Airtel a strong telecom company in the current scenario. The same can be said for Vodafone Idea as well. Although there are a lot of caveats in this statement, there are a plethora of things that Vodafone Idea has been doing right to solidify its position. I try to build an argument here as to what those things are. Top Upload SpeedWhen it comes to shelling out proper upload bandwidth, there is hardly anyone who has dared to defeat Vodafone Idea. Opensignal's report on Group Video calling experience, which is something that has seen a drastic rise during recent times, is best done on a Vodafone Idea network. The reason, which you might very well guess, is the astounding upload speed of 6.7 Mbps, as per the TRAI report of May. Here Vodafone Idea sets some room for improvement for the other telecom operators. Best Plans in Certain SlabsAnother area where Vodafone Idea has shown true ingenuity is in plan innovation. Call it creativity or blatant desperation of the telco under cash issues, but what Vodafone Idea has pulled off with its Rs 801 plan is nothing short of extraordinary. To give you a quick bird's eye view, the plan's validity is 84 days, and it offers 3GB of data per day. The telecom operator dared to provide a 'Binge-All-Night' offer along with Weekend Data Rollover, which allows users to consume unlimited data at night and save up data for weekend entertainment. This translates to Vodafone Idea gaining subscribers and even converting legacy 2G and 3G subscribers into 4G users, which has been touted as one of the most needed effects for the telco to survive and thrive. This ingenuity is something that users of all companies would surely appreciate. Vodafone Idea's REDX plan is another learning for the telecom industry which other telecom operators have not yet replicated. The telco very pragmatically has capitalised on its postpaid user base, which contributes a significant amount of revenue by providing them unmatchable benefits of airport lounges, international calling, and OTT subscriptions. Vodafone Idea Finally Seeing Positive Subscriber GrowthIndus Towers has already clarified that Vodafone Idea's precarious situation can soon turn poignant if the right steps are taken. The things mentioned above have surely helped the telco in surviving the tides of these waters. Some more steps to follow include a tariff hike, which has to be timed right and in the footsteps of the incumbents to make sure there is not a lot of churn in the subscriber count. In 2021, Vodafone Idea broke its streak of constantly losing subscribers and finally added to its subscriber base showing the industry that it is on the rise again. On the enterprise side, Vodafone Idea's managed SIP service is also expected to do some work to help the balance sheets. While Ookla's certification of the fastest 4G network of Vodafone Idea in the January-March period is another proof of Vodafone Idea, not only surviving this battle but also thriving in it. The other telecom operators, especially BSNL, could surely look deep into these takeaways to strengthen their portfolio of offerings. While Vodafone Idea's plans of the tariff hike, if timed right, might prove to be a gamechanger. |
| Reliance Jio Is Offering Rs 6,000 Worth of Vouchers With OnePlus Nord CE 5G Posted: 20 Jun 2021 02:05 AM PDT ![]()
Reliance Jio has a habit of partnering up with companies and smartphone brands to offer recharge benefits to the users. Jio has done it multiple times with both low-cost and premium smartphones. This time, Reliance Jio will be offering Rs 6,000 worth of recharge benefits to the users when they purchase the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, which launched in India on June 10, 2021. The telco will be crediting the eligible user's MyJio account with multiple recharge vouchers over an extended period of time. Here's all you should know about the offer. Reliance Jio Recharge Offer With OnePlus Nord CE 5GAs per the terms and conditions of the offer, the user must purchase the OnePlus Nord CE 5G after June 12, 2021. Further, any eligible subscriber who has already received a cashback offer from the company for an eligible device won't get this offer. Also, the benefits of the offer or the recharge vouchers offered to the users are non-transferrable. Coming to the benefits of the offer, users will receive a total of 40 coupons over 40 months (1 voucher every month) after they have purchased the Rs 999 plan from Reliance Jio. But again, remember this benefit is only available for users who have purchased the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. The 40 vouchers will be of Rs 150 each, meaning after 40 months, users would have received Rs 6,000 worth of recharge vouchers from Reliance Jio. But these vouchers come with an expiration date which is May 31, 2030. Any of the unused vouchers post-May 31, 2030, will be expired and rendered useless for the user. Also, the user can only apply one Rs 150 voucher on recharge or purchase of a prepaid plan/voucher from Reliance Jio. This Rs 150 voucher can't be clubbed with any other cashback voucher from the telco. Note that eligible user here will be one who a) purchases a OnePlus Nord CE 5G after June 12, 2021; b) is an active subscriber of Reliance Jio prepaid services, and c) is enrolled in the 'Jio Prime' membership. Reliance Jio can anytime withdraw or modify this offer for the users. While we know the expiration date of the vouchers, we don’t know until when the company will keep the offer active. |
| Here’s Why 100 Mbps Plan Is Good for You Posted: 19 Jun 2021 09:30 PM PDT ![]()
As users of technology, our reliance on the internet has seen a steep upward trend since its creation. The applications and use cases have evolved from searching for information to being the critical element in running multi-billion-dollar industries. Even as an average consumer, the internet is ingrained in our lifestyle in ways that it just seems difficult to get things done without it. Internet speed, one of the most important components of a broadband internet connection, is usually very subjective based on the use case. A speed that's fast enough for you can be average for another user. Generally, any speed which is more than 100 Mbps is considered to be fast according to most standards. This speed is taking into account varied use cases and multiple devices being connected. Here is a list of multiple reasons why you need at least 100 Mbps speed in today's modern world. Multiple Devices Are Connected to a Single Broadband Internet ConnectionBroadband connections installed at residences are used by multiple members of the family at once. A Wi-Fi router is known to convert a wired internet connection into a wireless one in which multiple users can access the internet using one single broadband connection. Every member can have a different use case and bandwidth requirements. Thus to smoothly manage internet consumption considering varied use cases, 100 Mbps and more is considered to be an appropriate speed. Working from Home or Expanding Your Business Using the InternetOne thing that the ongoing pandemic has taught us is that we can leverage the internet to either work professionally or run and expand our business. A working professional can now work remotely from their hometown without being physically present in the office. In a similar fashion, a business person can take his business online and run it smoothly from home and even expand to a worldwide customer base. An internet speed of 100 Mbps and above is critical in both these use cases. Sustaining A Smart Home EcosystemWe are slowly but steadily moving towards a smart home ecosystem. Electrical appliances manufacturers have noticed the upward trend of usage of the internet and, as a result, have started manufacturing smart devices that can connect and be operated remotely using the internet. These devices include smart plugs, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, lights and even smart fans. These devices can be operated remotely using our mobile phone or voice control over smart speakers. To sustain such a smart home ecosystem that includes multiple appliances and devices connected to the internet, a speed of 100 Mbps and above is important. |
| BSNL Offers a Better 90 Days 4G Plan Than Jio Posted: 19 Jun 2021 06:33 PM PDT ![]()
Reliance Jio and BSNL both offer a 90 days 4G prepaid plan to their customers. While BSNL has been offering its 90 days plan for a long-time now, Jio's entry in the segment is fairly new. Reliance Jio has started offering new plans with 15, 30, 60, 90, and 365 days validities. The interesting thing is, BSNL's 90 days 4G plan is significantly cheaper than that of Jio's. Reliance Jio's 90 days plan comes for Rs 597, while BSNL's 90 days plan comes for Rs 499. In terms of benefits, BSNL's 90 days plan defeats Jio's plan by a long margin. BSNL 90 Days 4G Prepaid PlanAs mentioned above, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited offers its 90 days 4G prepaid plan for Rs 499. With the plan, users get 2GB of daily data for the entirety of the plan meaning users get a total of 180GB of data. Further, there is a truly unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day included. Users also get additional benefits of BSNL Tunes and Zing. This is all that the BSNL's 90 days 4G plan offers to the users. Now let's take a look at the 4G prepaid plan offered by Jio to its users for 90 days. Reliance Jio 90 Days 4G Prepaid PlanReliance Jio offers its 90 days 4G prepaid plan for Rs 597. It is a newly launched plan by the telco that offers users 75GB of fair-usage-policy (FUP) data without any daily data consumption limit, meaning users can consume the entire 75GB data in one day or can use it over a 90 days period. This plan also offers users 100 SMS/day and unlimited voice calling. There are additional benefits of Jio apps, including JioNews, JioSecurity, JioCinema, JioTV, and JioCloud. BSNL's Plan is Tons Better, But the Use Case of Both Plans Is DifferentBSNL's plan is not only cheaper but also offers more benefits to the users. But the thing is, both the plans are different in nature and thus have varied use cases. BSNL doesn't allow the users to consume more than 2GB of high-speed data in a day. However, that's not the case with Jio's plan. BSNL's plan makes more sense if you are someone who is just looking primarily for a plan for 90 days. But if you want no restrictions on data usage on a day-to-day basis, Jio's plan is a better option. The additional benefits of Jio's plan also take a slight edge over BSNL's plan. |
