Posted: 25 Jun 2021 06:33 PM PDT

Alliance Broadband

Alliance Broadband

Alliance Broadband offers internet plans throughout India. The company has been actively providing services for many years now. One of the unique things about the company's offerings is the kind of plans that it provides to the users. Oddly, you could get plans with 125 Mbps, 140 Mbps, 400 Mbps, and 510 Mbps speed with Alliance Broadband. Further, the company gives multiple over-the-top (OTT) benefits to its users as well. If you are living in Kolkata and are looking for a broadband plan, know that Alliance Broadband offers one of the best 100 Mbps plans to users in India.

Alliance Broadband 100 Mbps Plan With Unlimited Data

Alliance Broadband offers its 100 Mbps plan with truly unlimited data. The information is not present on the company's website; however, upon verifying, the company said that there is no limit on the amount of data that a user can consume.

But the real treat is the pricing of this 100 Mbps plan. Users can get it for a mere price of Rs 700 per month. Not only this, there are OTT benefits included in the plan as well. With the plan, users will get free OTT benefits of Hoichoi, Hungama Play, and AddaTimes. However, there is another OTT benefit on long-term recharge. If the user goes for at least the 6 months plan, he/she will get a free Amazon Prime benefit for 3 months.

Note that the price mentioned above doesn't include the 18% GST. Further, this plan is only available for users living in Kolkata. Also, users will have to pay installation charges for the connection, which are non-refundable. This is one of the best 100 Mbps plans in the whole of India because not only is it cheap and come with truly unlimited data; there are OTT benefits included as well.

However, note that this plan is only available for a limited period until June 30, 2021. The company might not extend the benefits of the plan post the last date. So only four days remain. Thus if you are interested in any of the plans from the company, you can visit its website and put a request for a connection.

This is a really good and competitive plan against the 100 Mbps offerings from Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. Alliance Broadband also offers plans outside of Kolkata, but their benefits and price might be different depending on the location that the user lives in. You can get up to a 1 Gbps speed plan from the company.

Realme’s Rs 7000 5G Handset Is Coming Sooner Than You Think

Realme 5G

Realme 5G

Earlier this month, at Realme’s 5G Global Summit, the company had revealed the plans for the company wherein it was mentioned that Realme could launch a 5G smartphone in the country under $100 or Rs 7,420. Realme however did not reveal which countries or markets would get the product.

Today, however, Realme India and Realme Europe CEO Madhav Sheth revealed that the brand would be launching a Realme 5G smartphone in the market for just Rs 7,000, with the company further revealing its sales goals for the upcoming Diwali season that usually sees increased sales for the holidays.

In an interview with India Today Tech, Sheth has revealed that Realme will be launching the budget 5G smartphone in India, priced at $100 or approximately Rs 7,000.

When it is launched, the Realme 5G smartphone will become the most affordable smartphone in the market. But, you might be wondering as to when the device would be launched.

To answer that, well, he did not openly announce an exact launch date for the Realme 5G smartphone but he did mention that the company is aiming to make this happen as soon as possible.

What Did Madhav Sheth Have to Add

Mr Sheth added that the upcoming Rs 7,000 Realme 5G handset could be impacted by the supply chain issues, adding that Realme was working closely with supply chain partners, especially chipset makers so as to ensure that Realme devices are equipped with the latest 5G processors, complete with the decent build quality and the most affordable price.

As per the CEO, Realme is aiming to become a 5G leader in the country as well as global markets and, to ensure this, it has recently shifted approximately 90% of its R&D resources when it comes to the development of 5G devices.

As mentioned earlier, he also talked about the plans for Diwali, revealing that Realme aims to sell at least 60 lakh smartphone units in India during Diwali, which is set to take place on November 4th.

According to him, the preparation for the Diwali season has started and has the confidence to best meet the demand of the Diwali season in terms of stock.

He further added that the company would be launching its products under the new 1+5+T strategy, which stands for selling five smartphones for one product from a specific category that will consist of smartwatches, laptops, wireless headphones, TVs and smart speakers, as well as one product from the TechLife category, be it sockets or light bulbs.

Optus Revolutionises DSS by Running Narrow-Band IoT, 4G and 5G

Optus 5G

Optus 5G

Optus on Friday made use of Dynamic Spectrum Sharing or DSS in order to run narrow-band IoT, 5G and 4G mobile on its existing 700 MHz spectrum, a move, that, as per the company, will allow for the boosting of its 5G coverage. This was made possible via Ericsson’s spectrum sharing kit.

The two firms, who have been partners for the past couple of years and have worked on DSS in order to share frequency resources between 4G and 5G, described this latest trial as a world first, which also brings NB-IoT into play.

The telco has not yet provided any information regarding a commercial launch, but, going from the company, a full-scale and rapid rollout does not seem to be possible.

Do note that Optus is still keen on working, adding that the implementation of this tech will allow for broadening of the 5G footprint, with the use of the technology helping in unlocking a cost-effective method of offering 5G services via low spectrum bands, not conflicting with the user experience in mid-band 5G services.

Lambo Kanagaratnam, the Managing Director of Optus Networks mentioned that this test has shown that Optus’ 5G coverage footprint on its world-class network can be extended without compromising 4G and NB-IoT customer experience and marks the first step into being able to carefully introduce this technology.

What Else Do The Tests Indicate

The test also highlights the ability to achieve spectrum efficiency via enabling multiple services and technologies on the same spectrum resource, he added.

Optus has also noted that the recent deployment of FDD+TDD carrier aggregation for the mid-band will allow it to offer 5G at high speeds. Optus had initially mentioned that it was going to do carrier aggregation trials in March, specifying that it had been worked with Ericsson and Samsung in order to combine 5G FDD 2100 MHz and 5G TDD 3500 MHz at a live 5G site present in Sydney.

When it comes to the subject of speed, Optus also took this chance to share information about its latest mmWave milestone, wherein it stated that it was partnering with  Ericsson and cloud-native fame Casa Systems in order to reach mmWave peak speeds of more than 5 Gbit/s in a controlled environment at the Sydney HQ, whilst in a live commercial environment in the city it was able to touch 4.5 Gbit/s. The proof that was used was a Casa Systems AurusAI commercial CPE device on Ericsson RAN.

Kanagaratnam added that Optus could not wait for its customers to start connecting to the mmWave 5G network as commercial devices become available later this year. These speeds were truly incredible and alongside the other benefits of mmWave will help to open up a raft of new applications for both consumers and enterprise.

Reliance Jio Silently Introduces Rs 3,499 Prepaid Plan for 1 Year

Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio Rs 3499 plan

Reliance Jio has launched a series of new prepaid plans in the past few weeks. Now the telco has silently introduced another new prepaid plan worth Rs 3,499 for the customers. The plan was first spotted by the telecom expert Sudhakar who is also a part of our community. The Rs 3,499 plan is available for the users for 1 complete year, which is 365 days. Let's take a complete look at the plan below.

Reliance Jio Rs 3499 Plan Details

Jio

Reliance Jio has silently launched the Rs 3,499 plan for its users. The plan can be seen on both the website and the mobile app of the telco. With this plan, users will get 3GB of daily data for 365 days. This means the total data offered by the plan is 1,095GB. Post consumption of FUP data for the day, the speed for the user will drop to 64 Kbps.

Further, users will get truly unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day with the plan. The additional benefits include JioTV, JioCinema, JioSecurity, JioCloud, and JioNews. Until now, the highest validity plan offered by Jio with 3GB daily data was the Rs 999 plan that came with a validity of 84 days.

This plan will clearly cater to the needs of the users who are looking for a long-term plan that offers more than 2GB of daily data. Further, Reliance Jio has become the first private operator in the country to offer 3GB daily data for 1 year. Until now, all the private operators, including Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, offered users 3GB daily data plans with a validity of 84 days.

Reliance Jio could have added other benefits such as a free subscription to Disney+ Hotstar VIP or bonus data to make the plan even more lucrative. The Rs 3,499 plan has become the most expensive prepaid plan from the telco with unlimited data and voice calling benefits.

BSNL 4G Networks Might Come in Late 2022, Is It a Good Thing?

Posted: 25 Jun 2021 04:05 AM PDT

BSNL 4G

BSNL 4G

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is trying really hard to roll out 4G networks across the country, but there's just one thing, it won't happen anytime soon. Since the telco has proposed a hybrid 4G tender, it will have to wait for the Indian companies to come up with the Proof of Concept (POC) for their technology before they can be finalised as a part of the tender.

Recently, multiple Indians companies submitted Expression of Interest (EoI) for the 4G tender of BSNL. The telco will be reviewing the submissions and then asking the qualified companies to submit a Bank Guarantee (BG) of 5 crores and go ahead with generating POC. Under the hybrid 4G tender, BSNL has reserved 57,000 sites across India for the Indian companies and the rest of the sites are for foreign vendors.

However, the Indian companies are expected to take at least 4 months to come up with the POC. After POC, it will take at least another 10 months for the telco to roll out live 4G networks. This means that even without any delays, it will take BSNL at least 14 months from now to roll out new 4G networks.

Thus India won't see BSNL's 4G before August or September 2022. On top of this, if there are any delays, it will take even more time for the telco to come out with its 4G networks.

Is BSNL's 4G in Late 2022 Worth It?

BSNL's 4G network might come in late 2022. However, there's no saying whether it will be a good thing or a bad thing. In my opinion, even after 2 years, 4G will have all the use cases it has today since the 5G rollout is expected to be a little slow.

Then again, no one knows the future. One thing is for sure, BSNL cannot survive on its legacy networks anymore. The telco needs to move on to either 4G or 5G and it doesn't have the capacity nor the resources to move to 5G. So the only clear path for BSNL right now is to go ahead with 4G network rollout.

You can criticise the telco for going to 4G when other operators are moving to 5G. But the sad reality is, even if BSNL wanted to move to 5G, it can't do so straight away and it won't even be profitable for the company in the medium-term.

5G handsets and 5G networks will take at least until 2025 or 2026 in India to reach their full potential. It might even take more time, thus BSNL cannot do 2G, 3G, and 5G. However, once the telco has successfully rolled out 4G networks in entire India, it can go ahead with slowly upgrading to 5G.

BSNL still has a long way to go with 4G. Even if it's late 2022, BSNL should try its best to do it before then. However, the telco must ensure that there are no more delays. Honestly, BSNL's 4G will be a very fresh service in the market and it will be interesting to see how it performs against the networks of the other private telecom operators.

Reliance JioPhone Next Might Expand Handset Market: Report

Posted: 25 Jun 2021 03:32 AM PDT

Reliance JioPhone Next

Reliance JioPhone Next

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) recently hosted its 44th annual general meeting (AGM) event online. RIL announced its upcoming handset offering called the JioPhone Next. JioPhone Next will be a 4G Android-based device in collaboration with Google. Many global and domestic handset manufacturers welcomed the entry of the most affordable handset. Smartphone manufacturers expect the JioPhone Next to expand the market and provide a potential upgrade opportunity to customers. According to industry executives, the expansion and upgradation opportunity will emerge as new buyers using smartphones for the first time will enter the market.

Reliance Jio Not Competing with Handset Brands

As per an ET Telecom report, according to a senior executive at a top Chinese smartphone brand, Reliance Jio's new handset JioPhone Next is not competing with any handset brand. Reliance is actually competing with rival telecom operators to gain more 4G subscribers. He further added that with average prices of smartphones increasing year after year, smartphone manufacturers had left the below Rs 7,000 segment. It is popularly known that this particular entry segment is not profitable, but Reliance Jio plans to burn large amounts of cash to try and move the sticky feature phone base.

Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi's Managing Director, had earlier commented on the new affordable smartphone entry's impact on the market by stating that they are keeping a close eye on the upgrade opportunity that arises out of the new smartphone user base buying Reliance Industries' affordable 4G smartphone. He said that Xiaomi believes that a smartphone selling at 3000-4000Rs price point will only expand the overall smartphone market instead of taking any market share away.

Reliance Industries Targeting India's 300 Million 2G Feature phone Users

Reliance Jio's new ultra-affordable 4G smartphone will be the company's best to target India's 300 million 2G feature phone users. Reliance had moved the mobile network market upside down when it has announced Jio, and the company plans to stir up India's smartphone market with JioPhone Next.

However, analysts believe that JioPhone next can only solve the affordability issue among Indian users if the 4G smartphone is priced at or below Rs 2000. Navkendar Singh, Research Director of Client Devices & IPDS at IDC India, has said that if Reliance aims to get the 200-300 million feature phone users onto smartphones, then their upcoming 4G smartphone should be priced below Rs3000. His statement is based on the fact that feature phone users currently use phones priced under Rs1200 and cannot be expected to jump to Rs 4000-6000 phones.

Now users get to select whether they want to keep the Dolby sound system always on or change the mode.

One of the users noted that after the update, Voot and Disney+ Hotstar has been added to the recommended section of the application.

You can purchase it directly from Bharti Airtel for Rs 2,499 from the company's website. Further, if you are going to buy an Airtel Xstream Fiber connection, you can get the Xstream Box for refundable security of Rs 1,500 only.

If you are an existing user of the Direct-to-Home (DTH) services of Bharti Airtel, you won't even have to pay that much. You can get the Airtel Xstream Box for a price of Rs 2,300 which also includes installation charges. However, there are no OTT benefits included in this one. There are two other plans as well which come with OTT benefits and they cost much more. With the Xstream Box, you can watch OTT as well as satellite content just with a switch of buttons.

WhatsApp Must Comply With New IT Rules: Opinion

Posted: 25 Jun 2021 01:01 AM PDT

WhatsApp

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is an important tool of communication for people in India. Almost everyone who owns a smartphone has a WhatsApp account. The social media application has been in the spotlight for the last few months, largely for the wrong reasons. After its privacy policy issue, the social media application will need to battle it out with the government concerning the new IT rules.

According to the new IT rules, WhatsApp needs to help the government or the law enforcement agency whenever the originators of fake messages are needed to be found. But WhatsApp has said that it won't be able to comply with the new rules because of its end-to-end encryption policy of the messages.

Because of this policy, WhatsApp won't be able to find the originator of a fake message. Further, the Facebook-owned company said that if it complies with the new IT rules, it will lead to a violation of the fundamental rights of free speech and expression. However, things aren't this simple, and WhatsApp is kind of disrespecting the Indian law when it is saying that it won't be able to comply with the new IT rules.

WhatsApp Can be Banned in India

According to a Bar and Bench report, a man from Kerala recently filed a petition to ban WhatsApp if it doesn't comply with the new IT rules. The petitioner pointed out that while WhatsApp's privacy policy highlights that the application in certain instances store the messages that its users send and also accesses their contacts and other data.

The petitioner further said that even a common man could manipulate the media sent through the application; thus, it is not so secure after all. In the petition, the Kerala based software engineer gave the example of floods in Kerala in 2018 when many fake messages and news were circulating in WhatsApp.

One of the biggest things pointed out in the petition was the fact that WhatsApp is complying with the laws of the European region but not India's. This is a great question, why is WhatsApp not complying with Indian law?

There's always the freedom to challenge the laws in the court, but until then, should WhatsApp comply with the rules? Absolutely it should!

While I understand the stance of WhatsApp and don't want the government to pry on people's personal messages, there's also the case of WhatsApp disrespecting the Indian law, which is unacceptable. No application that can be a potential tool for spreading fake news and messages should be allowed to keep functioning without some regulations.

The question about whether these are the right laws and the manner of regulation or not, that's debatable, and WhatsApp has all the right to approach the court regarding the same; but only after it has accepted the new IT rules.

Either WhatsApp should comply with the laws of the Indian government or get banned. What do you think?

5G vs 6G, Interesting Facts You Should Know

Posted: 24 Jun 2021 11:29 PM PDT

5G 6G Network

5G 6G Network

Technology in all its glory is continuously evolving with time. What is possible today with tech might have seemed impossible a few years ago. The next-generation mobile network technology known as 5G is evidently the next big thing in tech. It is yet to witness widespread adaptability and is currently commercially available in only three countries. Some lesser developed countries of the world are just launching the previous generation 4G networks.

However, the current pace of 5G development hasn't been able to stop people from thinking about the technological capabilities that its successor 6G would unleash. 5G and 6G have been introduced into the market around the same time, even though they sit at different phases. 5G, on the one hand, is in the commercial rollout phase where more and more countries have started to provide 5G services in at least a few cities and states. 6G, on the other hand, is still in the research and development phase. As the different generations of mobile networks were introduced around the same time, it can lead to some confusion about their distinctive features.

6G Occupies Higher Frequencies Than 5G

If we look at 5G and 6G from a broader level, both these networks take advantage of higher frequencies on the wireless spectrum. This enables these next-generation mobile networks to transmit more data in comparatively lesser time because of their faster speed. If we go deeper into the frequencies these networks use, 5G occupies low band frequencies of sub-6 GHz and high band frequencies of 24.25 GHz. It is revealed that 6G will operate at higher wavelengths of 95 GHz to 3 THz (terahertz). 6G will be able to deliver speeds 1000 times faster than 5G.

5G Will Enable Internet of Things, 6G will Speed It Up

Internet of Things is a network of physical objects that connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the internet. When 5G was introduced, the Internet of Things was one of its most anticipated use case. The previous-generation 4G used narrow frequencies that could not transmit data at the speeds that intelligent devices needed to function smoothly.

5G will enable automation, enhance virtual and augmented reality experience and carve paths for a smart living ecosystem. While 5G will act as an enabler of the Internet of Things, 6G will speed things up and provide even smoother experiences and allow complex, higher speed requiring smart devices to enter the smart living ecosystem.

Nothing ear (1) Flipkart to Sell Products Via Flipkart

Nothing ear (1)

Nothing ear (1)

Nothing, a new tech venture pursued by Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, has announced that it will sell its products through Flipkart. The announcement can be seen on the microsite inside the online retail giant's website. Nothing will sell its first product, the ear (1), through Flipkart in India. The company hasn't announced the launch date of the product or its specifications but only said that it would sell through Flipkart. A few days back, Pei had confirmed that the company wouldn't be coming out with its first product in June 2021, which left many disappointed.

Nothing's Partnership With Flipkart Means Great Deals for Customers

The Indian customers can relax now since they won't have to worry about walking out of their doors to get their hands on this new product. The partnership with Flipkart means that users can purchase the product right from the couch of their homes and get it delivered to their doorsteps. Further, users might get deals such as no-cost EMI on purchase of the Nothing ear (1).

In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday, Manu Sharma, Vice President (VP) and General Manager (GM) of Nothing India, said that the new product from Nothing would be for those people who want to feel excited by the technology again.

Sharma said that tech should not feel cold and boring to people. This just confirms the brand's motto and identity for us. Looking at the hype and the buzz that the Nothing ear (1) has already created, we expect it to really win the hearts of the people if it could truly come out with something unique, something which the world hasn't even seen yet.

One of the biggest changes we expect to see in the Nothing ear (1) is in the design department. Almost every other Truly Wireless Stereo (TWS) earphone that we see out there looks the same except for minor differences.

While the quality of sound of these products is going up, the innovation in the design has not seen much growth. Nothing's ear (1) might change that for once and all. The Nothing ear (1) is a product that's worth waiting for.

The Windows 11 event successfully concluded yesterday and, with it came Microsoft’s new Windows operating system, a whole six years after the launch of the current generation of Windows, Windows 10, which took place in July of 2015. The Windows 11 update has been called the next generation of Windows from Microsoft, primarily offering a redesign, complete with a fresh boot screen and start-up sound, to the centrally-located Start menu and widgets.

The Washington based company is making its intentions clear with Windows 11, which is to take on Chrome OS and macOS, two of the world’s most popular computing UIs with Windows 11, making it a fair fight.

What is New in Windows 11?

Windows 11

First and foremost, the most notable of the changes to accompany Windows 11, which had been thoroughly leaked in the recent ISO leak showcases a new user interface, complete with a fresh startup screen and rounded corners to the menus and windows, which provide a very iPad OS like feel. The start menu has also been moved to the centre for a modern experience.

Interestingly, there is some history behind this, since this instance marks the first time since Windows NT 4.0, which debuted back in 1996 when we did not see a Start menu on the left side. The Start menu also brings with it default icons, but, the new positioning will be highly appealing to macOS and ChromeOS users, who might find it to be very familiar.

The updated Start menu gets rid of the Live Tiles that were present on the menu in Windows 10, but in order to better the experience, the user will see some recommended apps at the bottom. To add to this, there is also a dedicated search button close to the Start menu, which allows users to search across apps and functions of Windows 11.

There are also new sounds and alerts, complete with the aforementioned startup sound. Subtly, yet functionally, there are also new gestures, a set of wallpapers and an improvised dark mode. The update also comes with updated widgets that can pop up by swiping from the left of the screen or be allowed to span the entire expanse of the panel. The option to rearrange and resize widgets has been provided to users.

Multi-tasking is a key use case and to do so, the maximize button will now allow users to split their active screens amongst multiple areas of the laptop or desktop. This is being called Snap Layouts. Microsoft states that the layouts let users simultaneously open different screens on your computer, without any hassle, considering you just need to hover your mouse over the maximise button. Groups created by Snap Layouts that can be used for future access will be called Snap Groups.

Microsoft has also mentioned that it will be improving support for multiple monitors, making it easy for the user to use virtual desktops, which looks quite similar to Apple’s macOS offering, but, you will be allowed to use specific wallpapers for each virtual desktop, so as to easily differentiate them.

Windows 11 also brings with it an improved touch keyboard with support for GIF integration via Tenor. Preloaded virtual keyboards are also present in the UI, with users given the option to place them anywhere on the screen. Users will also be able to use voice dictation support throughout the system. Options like voice typing and voice commands are also present so as to ease your typing.

Microsoft has mentioned that with Windows 11, it has integrated its collaboration platform Teams within the UI and added a universal mute/unmute function so as to help the process of virtual calling, with users also having been provided with a new Desktop Share feature to let users share windows with people who are part of the meeting.

Chromium-based browser users will also get some relief, considering how Microsoft has enhanced the performance for the same, with specific enhancements for Microsoft Edge, with some key changes being related to improved support for multiple-tab access and ease of use with limited resource based laptops. The browser is also getting vertical tab support.

PC gamers too get some aid, since, with Windows 11, Microsoft provides support for Auto HDR and DirectX 12 Ultimate, with the integration of xCloud so as to enable cloud gaming for the users. Xbox Game Pass access has also been provided to Windows 11.

Mircosoft has also brought changes to the Microsoft Store, which, on Windows 11 will come with new search capabilities and a refreshed design. The company has also announced a new economic approach dubbed zero-revenue-share, in which developers will be able to provide their apps via the store without any commission. This change will come into effect starting July 28 and, when compared to Apple and Google, this decision is a controversial yet welcome one.

The Store also includes a new Entertainment tab that serves users with the latest content across all streaming platforms, be it TV shows or movies, with users having been provided with the option to wireless cast the content playing on their laptop to their smart TVs.

Microsoft Store is also being offered with deeper integration to the Amazon Appstore so as to allow Windows 11 users to get access to Android apps via their computers. Windows devs have been given the option to have their apps available no matter the type, be it  Win32, UWP, .NET, Xamarin, Electron, React Native, Java, or Progressive Web Apps.

Furthermore, Microsoft also announced that apps such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Disney+, TikTok, Zoom, and some native apps like Microsoft Teams, Visual Studio, and Notepad, Paint will be new additions to the Microsoft Store. Overall, Windows 11 has been given numerous behind-the-scenes upgrades to offer a faster experience, with claims suggesting that the OS will come with 40% smaller Windows updates, which will complete in the background so as to provide a good experience to users at the front end. The new version will also come with better battery life on devices.

Will Windows 11 Be A Free Upgrade?

Windows 11

For users who are wondering, Windows 11 will initially be on offer for testing purposes to Windows Insider members starting next week. It will also be available as a free upgrade to current Windows 10 users later in 2021 and come pre-installed on newer PCs. Microsoft has also announced the PC Health Check app to allow people to check whether their Windows 10 PC is upgradable.

It had been speculated that Windows 7 and 8 machines could get support for Windows 11, but a confirmation later in the morning confirmed that Windows 7 PCs that meet the minimum specs will run the upgrade, given that a Windows 10 license has been purchased for the specific device.

Do note that in 2022, customers will be given the option to buy Windows 11 at retail and install the same on compatible devices running Windows 7. Microsoft has not changed any SKUs, meaning that there are two options, Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro for users, much like Windows 10.

Minimum requirements have also been specified, with Microsoft stating that all major silicon partners be it Qualcomm, AMD, Intel are supported,  but Windows 11 will not be as lightweight, meaning the minimum requirement is at least a 64-bit x86 or ARM processor, combined with at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Vodafone Idea has revamped its Rs 199 plan. Since the time Reliance Jio has come out with new prepaid plans, every private player has been adding plans and making changes to their old ones. Vodafone Idea also recently added the Rs 447 plan offering data without any daily limits. Now, in another move, Vodafone Idea has revamped the Rs 199 plan for its users. As of writing this, the change isn't reflecting in the website of the telco or its mobile app, but as per a tweet from @BananaPlant, it can be seen that the telco is offering more data and extended validity with the Rs 199 plan. Let's take a look at the changes that have come into effect.

Vodafone Idea Rs 199 Plan Old and New Benefits Compared

Vodafone Idea offers its Rs 199 plan with 1GB of daily data for 24 days to the users. Adding to this, users get truly unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day. There is an additional benefit of the Vi Movies & TV app included.

However, looking at the revamped benefits in the image above, users will now get an extended validity of 28 days with the plan. Further, the daily data limit has been bumped up to 1.5GB, keeping all the other benefits the same. Meaning, users will keep getting truly unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day for an extended validity of 28 days, along with an additional benefit of the Vi Movies & TV app.

It is highly possible that the offer might be reserved for select users depending on the kind of plans they had subscribed to before or the region they are living in. This is because even after updating the Vi application to the latest version, the app still reflects the Rs 199 plan with older benefits for me.

Vodafone Idea's Rs 199 Plan to Compete With Jio's Plan Directly

Vi's Rs 199 plan was in direct competition with Airtel's plan when the older benefits are concerned. But with the new benefits, the telco's plan is directly competing with Jio's plan. Reliance Jio also offers 1.5GB daily data to its users for 28 days with the Rs 199 plan. Jio's plan also includes unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day along with complimentary Jio applications.

This is an excellent move from Vodafone Idea to attract customers. But this would also hurt the telco's average revenue per user (ARPU) in the short term. Hopefully, Vi comes out with more such competitive prepaid plans in the coming days to add new customers.
