Apple iPad Mini 6 Denied Mini-LED Screen, AirPods 3 Also Around the Corner Posted: 24 Jul 2021 10:16 AM PDT The upcoming next few months on the calendar have been plotted with some significant Apple launches. The Cupertino-based giant is preparing itself for the launch of the iPhone 13 lineup, and it seems that the series will debut in a similar fashion to the iPhone 12 and will accompany the launch of the AirPods 3. Not only this, there have been several rumours and reports about the Apple iPad Mini 6, which will not come with the mini-LED display. It's noteworthy that the mini-LED display is something that the new MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models will fancy on their screens. Previously it was expected that the iPad mini 6 would also sport the same display, but that does not seem to be the case. iPad mini 6 to be Devoid of Mini-LED DisplayThe report about the missing mini-LED display on the iPad mini 6 comes from Ross Young, CEO of display market tracker Display Supply Chain Consultants. To give you some background, a DigiTimes report had remarked that the iPad mini 6 would come with a mini-LED display, and this was countered by Young in his tweet about the same. However, the missing mini-LED screen does not mean that the iPad mini 6 is not getting a design to revamp. The new tablet from Apple will get a refreshing new design and will probably pack an A15 chip on the inside. The design has been said to resemble Apple's iPad Air 4. Also, similar to the magnetic connector in the iPad Pro series, this tablet will also likely feature a similar port.AirPods 3 Likely Around the Corner as WellAirPods 3, which offers a true wireless stereo experience, will also accompany the launches which are to happen in the coming months. Some of the rumours about the third-generation AirPods had started floating last year itself. Ming-Chi Kuo, a popular Apple analyst, had said that AirPods third generation could be launched in the third quarter of 2021. Although the designs and renders available on Weibo suggest a similar design as the second generation AirPods, there might be some differences for sound flow and sensors.

SC Refuses to Rethink AGR Dues, Bad News for Financially Strapped Telcos Posted: 24 Jul 2021 08:33 AM PDT One of the heaviest financial burdens which the telecom companies in India face right now includes the Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR). The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), after winning the fifteen-year long legal battle, had slapped these charges on the telecom companies. The older telecom companies now stand on the edge with regards to these dues as they are the ones to shoulder this burden. Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and Tata Teleservices were requested to pay amounts to the tune of Rs 91,000 crore in total in the beginning. However, these telecom companies have been opposing the AGR dues in every way possible. In the last cry for help, these companies had approached the Supreme Court, filing a plea for the recalculation of the dues. Supreme Court Does not Budge From Its DecisionThe result of the Supreme Court hearing, however, did not turn in favour of the telecom companies. All three Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel, and Tata Teleservices pleas were rejected by the Supreme Court. This order, which was passed on Friday, as per an ET Telecom report, said that there is no scope for recalculation of the AGR dues. The recent Supreme Court ruling also highlighted and referenced the judgment passed last year in the same matter in the month of July. The three judges bench consisting of Justice LN Rao said that in the previous attempt as well, these telecom companies had requested for a recalculation of the dues, and during that time as well, their plea was rejected outright. The Supreme Court maintains the same stance in the matter for now. This means that the dues that these telecom companies have to pay remain in the same quantum.Vodafone Idea Hardest HitOn the other hand, if the plea had gone the telcos' way, then the previous order would have had to be struck down. The AGR dues which plague the balance sheet of Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel, and Tata Teleservices amount to a total of Rs 1.19 lakh crore at present which are to be paid in a period of ten years. Out of this amount, approximately Rs 30,000 crore has already been paid by the telecom companies. Out of all, Vodafone Idea is the hardest hit, and this is the reason why it plans to raise around Rs 24,000 crore to pay off its AGR dues along with others.
Latest Windows 11 Build 22000.100 Brings With It Multiple Improvements Posted: 24 Jul 2021 07:34 AM PDT Microsoft on Saturday released the latest preview build of Windows 11, which sports the build number 22000.100. This build from the tech giant comes with certain new features and a host of bug fixes. The key aim for this update is to improve Windows 11’s stability and to do so, it has been made available to members of the Microsoft Insider Program who are part of the Dev Channel or Early Access channel. For those of you wondering, the first update is in relation to Microsoft Teams, as developers have started the implementation of the Chat application that is present on the basis of Microsoft Teams, this is now located in the taskbar. What Does the Latest Update do Differently?Do note that this is currently on offer to just a couple of insiders and will be gradually provided to other testers. We as of now have not received the same. The developers have also started the process of updating the looks of the pop-up menu of hidden icons that are present to the lower-right of the taskbar, with this feature helping in making the menu look consistent with the overall design of Windows 11’s UI or user interface. With the update, the design of the menu will not always change and in certain situations, the user might have to change the skin for the pop-up menu in order to get a fresh look. To add to all of this, the new firmware also simplifies access to the Focus to Attention function settings, with users now being able to directly access them via the Notification Center. Additionally, whenever the background activity of a particular app needs the user’s prompt, the icon present on the taskbar will start flashing. This action of attention-grabbing has been changed and now it will stop after a bit, but the concerned icon will keep on being highlighted until the user interacts with the same. The latest build also brings with it an update to the Microsoft Store which makes the navigation process feel fast and fun, in the words of Microsoft. According to the company, when a user selects an interesting app or movie, they might see some animations that will help keep track of what is being browsed. Overall, this build brings certain new features that were promised at the time of launch and multiple fixes to the Widgets section and the overall stability of the UI.
WhatsApp Web Can Now Run Without a Connected Phone on iOS Posted: 24 Jul 2021 06:12 AM PDT The most popular messaging platform on the planet, WhatsApp Messenger has missed one feature for a long time. The users of WhatsApp have constantly complained about this and in an extreme scenario have even moved to other apps just because of this one functionality. The feature that we are talking about is multi-device support. Previously, WhatsApp Web on the desktop could not function unless your mobile phone was also connected to the internet. But, now it seems that WhatsApp has finally come around this issue and is slowly rolling out an update to extend this feature to the users in the Beta programme. Multi-Device Feature Now on iOS Version of WhatsAppThe Multi-Device update on WhatsApp is currently being made available to the iOS users of WhatsApp who are in the beta programme. For the unaware, the Multi-Device feature will allow the users to send and receive messages on WhatsApp Web, which is the desktop version of the app, even when their phone is not connected to the internet. This is a feature that other messaging apps like Telegram and Signal have allowed their users. But, WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption was coming in the way of this feature for long. The report comes from WABetaInfo. Now with the rollout of this feature, even if your phone dies, you can be using WhatsApp on a laptop or desktop. On your iOS phone, you will have to go to the WhatsApp Settings and checked the Linked Devices section (previously called "WhatsApp Web/Desktop").Some Limitations With Multi-Device FeatureIf you are going to use this feature you should note that some of the other features of WhatsApp might be hindered. Since this is a feature in the beta stage, that comes with no surprise. You might be missing pinned chats since they are not synced instantly and you might have to search for them. Live Locations are also another thing that might not work while you shift to the new Linked Devices setting. You might also be restricted in terms of calling other users with an older version of WhatsApp. However, if you are worried about privacy you can leave it behind since WhatsApp has said that the end-to-end encryption is still working on the devices and has not been trashed for this Multi-Device support. Also, the users will be able to link up to 4 devices right now but no other phone.
BSNL Cuts Bulk SMS Scrubbing Charges for Both Private Cos and PSUs Posted: 24 Jul 2021 06:00 AM PDT In the times of the pandemic, lockdown, and everything that has gone in the past year, businesses, whether digital or with a physical store have relied on SMS promotion a lot. The public telecom company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has also been a provider of bulk SMS services which these business entities can use to send messages, convey information, or promote their businesses. In a new revision to its bulk SMS rates, BSNL has put out an infomercial detailing about the new rates of its bulk SMS services. It's worth noting that the BSNL bulk SMS service has always been cheaper for the PSUs and government-owned entities and the revision of rates is no exception to this rule. The PSUs will have to pay only 50% of the rate as compared to other customers. BSNL Scrubbing Charges ReducedAs per this new report from Kerala Telecom, the scrubbing charges of the Bulk SMS Push Service of BSNL will now be available for 2 paise, down from the previous price of 2.1 paise. This rate will be applicable when the SMS count is less than 10 crore. For the same quantity of messages, the PSUs will have the service available at 1 paise only. It's also worth noting that these scrubbing charges will be applicable for the SMS submitted to the DLT platform of BSNL for scanning by the TRAI TCCCPR 2018 regulations put forth by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).Different Prices for PSUs and Private EntitiesThe DLT protocols of TRAI have a stronghold on norms of quality of promotional and transactional SMS which the businesses send to their customers. The DLT portal allows the customers or the principal entities to register themselves, log in consumer consent, obtain headers for the SMS and other tasks. This way TRAI also maintains a quality check on the SMS being sent to the consumers. On the other front, the retailers who would like to obtain SMS services in bulk from BSNL can choose from the monthly or annual plan which starts at Rs 2,200 per month offering 10,000 to 24,999 SMS The scrubbing charge for private entities in this plan is fixed at Rs 0.021.

Vodafone Idea In a Tough Spot Post SC Order Posted: 24 Jul 2021 02:35 AM PDT The verdict by Supreme Court in the AGR dues case has left Vodafone Idea in distress. As the telco giant was hoping to get some relief in the massive AGR dues, the bench rejected the plea of both Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel that pointed towards arithmetic errors in the calculation of their AGR dues. The Supreme Court direct the telcos to pay their AGR dues to the government. If the government does not roll out a relief package for the financially distressed telco, Vodafone Idea might soon file for bankruptcy. Vodafone Idea Cannot Introduce Tariff HikesOne of the ways through which the telco giant would have lowered the financial distress was tariff hikes. However, the fiercely competitive market of India makes it impossible to introduce tariff hikes. As reported by ET Telecom, Vodafone Idea might go down on its knees and file for bankruptcy without a relief package from the government. Mayuresh Joshi, who is the head of equity research at the Indian unit of US equity research firm William O' Neil & Co, stated that the survival options of Vi seem to be fading after the verdict of the Supreme Court has been released in the AGR case.Vodafone Idea has a Debt of Rs 1.8 Lakh CroreA top analyst of a renowned global brokerage firm marked that Vodafone Idea might soon file for bankruptcy as its legal options for further recourse on the AGR dues. It is also expected that the funding plans of the telco giant might suffer after the recent verdict. Without the funding, Vodafone Idea might not be able to clear its immediate Rs 24,000 crore payment towards AGR dues. In case if the funding goes down in vain, the Indian telecom market might transition into a Duopoly with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel as the top telcos. In case you are not aware, Vodafone Idea has been hunting down to raise Rs 25,000 crore for the last 10 months. The telco sits on a debt of Rs 1.8 lakh crore with a cash balance of just Rs 350 crore. To date, Vodafone Idea has just paid Rs 7,854 crore and needs to clear the remaining AGR dues in 10 annual instalments.
Nokia 110 4G Feature Phone Sporting 4G LTE Support Launched in India Posted: 24 Jul 2021 12:16 AM PDT HMD Global seems to be on its way to gain even more market share in the feature phone segment, with the company having recently launched the Nokia 110 4G in India. This phone was first launched alongside the Nokia 105 4G in the European market. For those of you wondering, this specific feature phone is the upgraded version of the Nokia 110 that was launched in 2019, sporting support for just 2G connectivity. This upgrade comes at a time when 2G is being phased out and, keeping this in mind, Nokia is boasting of 4G LTE connectivity in this new feature phone. The Nokia 110 4G is not the first device to have 4G support, as the Nokia 105 4G and the title Magic 2 4G, backed by Transsion Holding also featured 4G LTE support. Nokia 110 4G: Specifications and FeaturesSpecification wise, the phone makes use of a 1.8-inch LCD display which has a resolution of 120 x 160 pixels. The Nokia 110 4G lasts quite long due to a decently sized 1,020mAh battery that can offer up to 14 days of standby use in 4G whilst for voice calls, it can last for up to 5 hours. The device will be on sale in India starting today, 24 July via both Nokia India’s official website and Amazon India. This move comes at a time when most users have moved to smartphones, owing to the gradual effects of the pandemic when it comes to a change in use cases, but, there are some users who still prefer to keep a burner phone or a feature phone for certain use cases and, for them this should work well.
Broadband Internet Connection Issues Can Be Solved Like This Posted: 23 Jul 2021 09:39 PM PDT Broadband internet connections have become a necessity in almost every household since the time the pandemic has come. People need highly stable internet connections which the operators can't provide with their congested 4G networks. Thus, everyone who is working from home today is thinking about getting a fiber broadband connection. However, life isn't that simple with a broadband connection either. Even broadband internet connections can drop and have issues that you might not understand how to solve. Regardless, before contacting the customer care team of the respective company you purchase services from, here is something that you can do on your own. Note that these are basic things and most you might already know them, but this is for people who have been recently introduced to a broadband connection and are facing issues they don't understand how to tackle. Restart or Reset Router/ModemOne of the most basic things that even a customer care agent would ask you to do is restart or reset the router or the modem. It is advisable that once a week at least you restart or reset your modem/router to keep it going smooth. If there are any network issues, resetting or restarting might solve them.Router SettingsRouter settings should always be according to your needs. Ensure that the settings of the routers haven't been interfered with. Just reconfigure the router settings on your own and if you don't know how to do it, take the help of someone who does.Check SpeedJust before you contact the customer care team of the company, ensure that the issue is with the network speed and not the Wi-Fi connectivity or something else. To check the internet speed of your broadband connection, you can use third-party applications on both iOS and Android smartphones.Location of the RouterAnother thing that you should understand carefully is that the location of your router is very important. If you have placed your Wi-Fi router in a place where its network signals are interfered by the walls and other objects, you will never be able to get a seamless internet experience.Computer IssuesSometimes it is not even the fault of the Wi-Fi router or the broadband connection, but your computer. If you are not receiving good internet on your computer, there can be an issue with your computer's system. Clean your computer once and after that check your internet speed. If the issue still exists, call the respective customer care team.
Android 12 Will Trade In-Depth Customisation for Dynamic Theming Options Posted: 23 Jul 2021 08:00 PM PDT Google announced Android 12 earlier this year as the successor to Android 11, and, with it, the company decided to opt for a major overhaul, be it design-wise or feature-related, everything is a breath of fresh air on the next generation of Android. With that being said, users are a bit far from enjoying the same. Users have been allowed to use it as part of a beta program and, the stable build should be on its way soon, if not in the next couple of months, but it seems that some changes have irked the Android enthusiasts in one way or the other. It seems that some users are unhappy with one particular change that has been made, which removes a couple of customization options in favour of some new ones, with the older ones seemingly being the enthusiast’s choice. Android 12 Is Getting Rid of In-Depth Customization OptionsOn Saturday, XDA Developers spotted a thread that was posted in the Google Issue Tracker, which talked about the lack of Custom Styles when it came to the Pixel Wallpaper and Styles menu. The complaint stated that the customization options, which at one point were more than enough, had been reduced to almost none and, in the words of the author, the change had apparently destroyed a lot of the appeal of pure Android and Google smartphones. Other users seemed to agree with this user, but it seems Google has an answer to the same. Google’s latest statement states that the custom style features such as icon shape, font, icon pack, and accent colour in Android R are now being replaced by new dynamic theming features that the company is introducing in Android S. The statement further adds that Google sees the new dynamic theming feature to be more modern and intelligent. The company feels it is a simple and delightful experience that, hopefully, all users can get to enjoy. From this statement, one can deduce that Google seems to be going for a consistent look for Android 12, something that has been spotted in the past, and, if this is the case, the move is not shocking, but, hopefully, the users can grow to like this change. For those of you unaware, Android has been well regarded for its customizability, which allows the user to make their phones adhere to their personal design choices. Whilst Material You does help keep things neat and tidy, it seems to be coming at the expense of the in-depth customization options that were present in Android 10 with the Pixel. Do note that there is very little chance of Google rolling this back, as Android 12 Beta 3 is already public, and it seems unlikely for Google to reintroduce these features prior to the Stable release, but, if users really are upset, we might see Google take a step back from this move.
Reliance Jio Is the Only Company That Offers This Plan Posted: 23 Jul 2021 06:45 PM PDT Reliance Jio is the number one ranked telecom operator in India. The telco has changed the way Indians look at 4G data and mobile networks. Jio is known for providing cheaper prepaid plans than its competitors namely Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel. For the unaware, there is also a prepaid plan that Reliance Jio offers which no other company does. The plan that I am talking about is a newly introduced one and it is frankly strange that none of the other operators are offering it even now. Let's take a look at that plan. Reliance Jio Prepaid Plan That No Other Company OffersReliance Jio offers a Rs 3,499 prepaid plan. It is a fairly new offering from the company and comes with unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day for 365 days. The highlight of the prepaid plan is the amount of data that it offers. With the Reliance Jio Rs 3,499 prepaid plan, users get 3GB of daily data for the entire year. Note that none of the other operators including Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel offers this kind of plan. Sure, both Airtel and Vi offer users a 3GB daily data; but they offer it with a limited validity of 84 days. So after 84 days, you will have to recharge again and again. But that's not the case with Reliance Jio's Rs 3,499 prepaid plan. Here users only need to recharge once a year and enjoy the benefits of the plan throughout 365 days. Note that there are no major over-the-top (OTT) benefits available with this plan. The additional benefits that users get with the Rs 3,499 prepaid plan from Reliance Jio are of JioTV, JioCinema, JioCloud, JioSecurity, and JioNews. With this plan, users essentially get 1GB of data for Rs 3.19 which is very cheap. Post the consumption of fair-usage-policy (FUP) data for the day, the internet speed for the users will drop to 64 Kbps. An OTT benefit such as Disney+ Hotstar VIP would have been good with this plan to make it more attractive. However, it is still a win-win plan for Jio and its customers. The telco has no direct competition for any other operator in this segment and the customers get very cheap data with the plan. It would be great to see Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel coming out with such a plan as well since it would add to the market competition and wherever there is competition, there is innovation.
