AT&T Budget Conscious Plan Offers 5GB of Data for $30 Posted: 12 Aug 2021 11:33 AM PDT AT&T, the number one ranked telecom operator in the USA in terms of revenues, offers users pretty cheap prepaid plans. The company has been able to amass millions of customers on its network on the back of its excellent offerings. The cheapest prepaid plan from the company is called 'Budget Conscious', and it offers users 5GB of high-speed data for $30. In addition, there are multiple other benefits bundled with the plan, which make it an excellent deal for any US citizen looking for a budget prepaid plan with substantial benefits. AT&T Budget Conscious Plan Complete BenefitsThe AT&T Budget Conscious plan comes for $30 per month. It offers users unlimited voice calling and texting benefits. Users get only 5GB of data with the plan. Once the 5GB data is consumed, the internet speed for the users will be dropped to 128 Kbps for the rest of the month. In addition to this, the company offers a data rollover facility to the users. Customers of the telco can stream content in standard-definition (SD) quality. Further, users get the benefit of pay-per-use talk and text to Mexico and Canada. Lastly, users on this plan can send unlimited texts to over 230 countries. This is something that most of the other telecom operators around the world, including the US, don't provide to their users. In comparison with the other operators, AT&T's entry-level prepaid plan is quite cheap. It is perfect for someone looking to majorly call and text and sometimes uses data for average stuff such as using online texting applications, stream videos at SD quality, and more. This is AT&T's cheapest prepaid plan. Users can also choose from some other monthly prepaid plans of the company, which come for $40/month, $65/month, and $75 per month. Only the most expensive plan from the telco offers users 5G access at the moment.
Vodafone Idea Cannot Believe SC Stance on AGR Dues Case Posted: 12 Aug 2021 07:54 AM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi) cannot believe the Supreme Court (SC) judgement on the recent adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues case. As per an ET Telecom report, the telco has said it is 'inconceivable' or unimaginable that the SC is not considering the request for rectification of errors in the AGR dues amount. Further, Vi said that it is a "travesty of justice" that SC isn't allowing for the errors in the dues amount to be rectified. The decision from the SC will make Vodafone Idea pay Rs 25,000 crore extra, and it might be the reason why it goes "under", meaning, out of the market. Vodafone Idea Recently Filed a Review Petition on AGR JudgementThe third-largest telco in India had recently approached the SC and filed a review petition on the apex court's order favouring the amount that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had calculated. The telco's plea isn't to change the assessed amount but only to rectify the errors if they are present. Vi has further clarified its intention that it doesn't want to "wiggle" from paying the AGR dues, as the court has said. But if there's a chance that it can survive by fair means and by making a request for rectifying the errors in the calculated amount that it is entitled to, the telco can't believe that the SC doesn't understand that. Vi is in bad shape financially. If the telco's debt burden isn't reduced, it might have to close shop in the future. Vodafone Idea said that it is a "travesty of justice" that a petitioner can't even ask for any rectification of the error. The statement from Vodafone Idea isn't wrong if there's an absolute judgement error from the DoT in the final dues amount. The telco isn't doing it to just seek short-term relief from paying the dues but to stay in the market for long-term and keep providing network services to its millions of users.
Apple Will Supposedly Change Camera Assembly Methods as Cost Cutting Measure Posted: 12 Aug 2021 07:27 AM PDT Apple is a company known for not taking risks, opting to go the safe route in most instances. Be it the under-display camera, which, to this date remains flawed in one way or the other or the 5G connectivity, which arrived to the iPhone a bit later in comparison to the likes of OnePlus and Samsung. Today, it has been revealed that in an attempt to save overall costs, Apple will reportedly change the ways it produces camera modules for the iPhone, with new reports stating that it will supposedly opt to produce each of the camera lenses separately, in an individual manner, in contrast to procuring them all together and pre-assembling the same. As per a new report from The Elec, till 2020, Apple’s iPhone camera lenses had been produced via the company’s suppliers Sharp, LG Innotek and O’Film, with the lenses being pre-assembled. What is Apple’s New Cost-Cutting Technique? This is set to change, since Apple is considering changing its camera module supplier to Foxconn, in order to save overall costs. MacRumors reported recently, citing this report that Foxconn, in a bid to take on this new responsibility has now received brand new inspection equipment from the South Korean company Hyvision System. This new system will check whether or not the Telephoto, Ultra-Wide and wide camera lenses, consisting of the optical axis and image sensors are aligned or not since an incorrect alignment could result in reduced image quality. These new changes, as mentioned earlier, were being done to save costs, but, as of now, the report has mentioned that it is unclear whether or not these savings would be translated to the cost of the product. It is also unknown whether or not the new production method and Foxconn’s role in this camera assembly will be used for the iPhone 13, but, given as to how the iPhone 13 is in production, we might see the iPhone 14 benefit from this new change. In other Apple news, as is rumoured each time a new iPhone is set to release, it is being speculated that the iPhone 13 series could finally shrink the notch, but, as always this is to be taken with a pinch of salt since the usual hype ends up dying at the start of the launch when Apple showcases the same old notch on top.

Realme Book Slim’s PC Connect Feature Will Make You Take Notice Posted: 12 Aug 2021 06:01 AM PDT The Realme Book seems to have been the talk of the town for quite some time, with leaks and rumours revealing key details such as the processor and, more importantly, the design, which seems rather inspired by Cupertino-based giant Apple’s MacBook lineup of laptops. Recently, however, the Chinese giant revealed that it would finally be launching the Realme Book Slim in India on August 18, confirming the name itself, which hints at the laptop being rather slim in comparison to Xiaomi, HP and Dell’s offerings. Today, it was revealed that the Realme Book Slim would come with a feature that sets it apart from most budget and mid-range laptops, and one that can make the buying decision much easier for some, if not most. What is This New Feature?A source familiar with the product reached out to Android Authority and informed the publication that the Realme Book Slim would come with a feature dubbed PC Connect. The naming is quite obvious, but for those of you still unaware, this feature will allow the user to connect their phone to the PC through Wi-Fi Direct. This works by mirroring your mobile phone’s display on the laptop screen, which, effectively will allow the users to connect and access the applications present on their smartphone, make calls and do other tasks that are not possible with laptops, whilst also having access to Windows. The clip from Android Authority reveals that PC Connect would allow the user to easily and rapidly share files across both laptops and smartphones, with it also mentioning a Smart Application Integration, which basically means that the files present on the phone can be easily opened on the desired PC applications. This is not the first time that such a feature is being introduced, since both Huawei and Xiaomi have offered the feature. Microsoft also offers such functionalities with its Your Phone app for Windows. Do note that Huawei’s take uses NFC, allowing the user to place their handset on the trackpad to get up and running. What is sad however is that such a solution from an OEM is not compatible with devices from other brands, which, as per the source could be the case with Realme Book Slim’s PC Connect feature. If this feature does do well in India and users are genuinely intrigued, it would make sense for Google to offer some method of allowing similar functionalities for Android handset users.
WhatsApp Finally Listens to Users Posted: 12 Aug 2021 05:50 AM PDT WhatsApp has finally done what its users wanted it to do. The social media giant will now facilitate users with the option of migrating their chat data between an iOS and Android device. Until now, users had to resort to third-party applications for doing so. Looking at the demand for such a feature, it was only a matter of time before WhatsApp came out with its own solution. The new feature from WhatsApp that will now allow the migration of chat data between iOS and Android devices will only be available on select Android smartphones initially. Keep reading ahead to find out how this feature will work and whether it is available on your smartphone yet. Only Select WhatsApp Users Will Be Able to Make Use of the Feature InitiallyWhatsApp officially announced the feature in Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event. The social media giant said that users will now have the option to switch between Android and iOS devices without worrying about losing their chat data. The Facebook-owned platform announced that initially, this feature will only be available for the select users who own a Samsung Android smartphone. These users will be able to transfer all of WhatsApp data from their Android smartphone to the iOS smartphone and vice versa. Until now, WhatsApp had avoided releasing the feature because it was facing problems with migrating the data between iOS and Android smartphones without causing problems with the end-to-end encryption system. But it looks like the company is working with Samsung to resolve the issue and has also been a little successful with it. This is good news for users who weren't migrating from an iOS to Android or vice versa because of the fear that they will lose their WhatsApp data completely. With the new feature, WhatsApp said, users, will be able to transfer all of their data from one phone to another which includes all the texts, media, and voice notes.
Signal Boosters Are Illegal, DoT Conducts Awareness Program for the Same Posted: 12 Aug 2021 05:44 AM PDT The WMO, known widely as Wireless Monitoring Organization, in collaboration with the DoT or Department of the Telecommunications and the IMS or International Monitoring Station, announced that they had conducted an awareness campaign in Delhi, NCR, in relation to the illegal mobile signal boosters, with the organisations laying emphasis on the strict action and penalties that can be imposed on people who install these illegal devices. This was done on Thursday, wherein the WMO, the telecom department and the IMS in Noida, Safdarjung Enclave, Krishna Nagar, South Extension Part 2 and Masjid Moth, in collaboration with the telecom operators and the local administration. The key point that was highlighted was the illegal mobile signal repeaters being a key cause of network issues for most consumers, with the issues mentioned being low data speeds and call drops since these repeaters were interfering with the existing network signal, thus hampering overall transfer speeds. What Did the Campaign Result In?The campaign was also important in underlining the need to communicate the laws and regulations that are concerned with the installation of these illegal boosters in an effective manner since, as per the authorities, mobile boosters are still being sold and installed without permission in the country. Back in April, the COAI or Cellular Operators Association of India, an industry body, had urged the telecom department to make sure that a blanket bad was set on the sale of these devices, be it offline or online, via the dreaded e-commerce sites that include the likes of Amazon and Flipkart. The COAI had also urged the DoT to raise this issue with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry so as to ban the import of these illegal boosters, with an instant effect. Another request was to take this issue up with the MHA or Ministry of Home Affairs in order to issue the necessary directions to state administrations for taking action against sellers selling this illegal tool. The engineer-in-charge at IMS Delhi stated that the wideband boosters were negatively impacting the signals that are provided by Telecom Operators. During the awareness campaign, people voluntarily surrendered repeaters and reported about improvement in network connectivity in the areas. He also urged Delhiites to connect with their respective Telecom Operators to tackle any issues in relation to their network signal, which will lead to an overall improvement in the network. For those of you unaware, as per the WMO, the installation, selling of, or possession of illegal repeaters is a punishable offence according to the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933, as well as the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.
Reliance Jio Median Download Speed Up at 13.08 Mbps in June from 5.96 Mbps March 2021: Ookla Posted: 12 Aug 2021 05:37 AM PDT Reliance Jio is the number Indian telecom operator because of multiple reasons. One of those reasons is having the capability to offer the best to the users at the least cost. Reliance Jio's median download speed has increased from 5.96 Mbps in March 2021 to 13.08 Mbps in June 2021. The positive increase in median download speed is due to the spectrum and network spectrum investments that Reliance Jio made in 2021. Jio purchased Rs 58,000 (approximately) crores worth of spectrum and has deployed it in multiple parts of the country. 5G Would Increase Median Download Speed FurtherAs per a report that came from Ookla, the median download speed in India is expected to grow by 10 times with the arrival of 5G. The data for the same has been taken from other Asian markets, which saw the download speeds growing by 9 to 10 times with 5G when compared with 4G. The exact speed can't be figured out, but it is safe to assume that the data speed should grow by 10x. Looking at the current median downloading speed from Reliance Jio, it feels like users might get up to 130 Mbps speed with 5G if there's a 10x increase in speed. But let's leave assumptions and come to the actual numbers. As per Ookla, more than 54.5% of Indian users could consume the internet at more than 5 Mbps speed in June 2021 which is more than the 52.9% of users that could get this speed in March 2021. The spectrum deployment from both Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio has helped the telcos serve even better network experience to their customers. As per Ookla, the delayed launch of 5G in India will help with getting the network equipment and 5G technology at a cheaper cost. Further, the availability of more low-cost 5G smartphones in the future will allow the operators to capitalise on their 5G investments at a much faster rate than now.

Credit Suisse, a brokerage company, said Airtel's shares could gain up to 62% in the near term on account of Vodafone Idea's (Vi) financial woes. The brokerage said Vi's financial conditions are unlikely to get better regardless of any relief measures provided by the government, and this will add to the growth of Bharti Airtel. Credit Suisse has set a target price of Rs 775 for Bharti Airtel, while for its biggest competitor, Reliance Jio, the brokerage has set a target price of Rs 2,020. As for Vodafone Idea, the brokerage has set a target of Rs 6. Bharti Airtel Shares May See Huge Gain on Account of ViAccording to Credit Suisse, if only two private operators exist (Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio), Airtel's subscriber market share can increase to 40%, and its average revenue per user (ARPU) might increase to Rs 200, which might take the telco's per-share price up to Rs 1,010. The brokerage has put a 'good days ahead' sign on the telco's share price future. Regardless of what happens, be it a two-player market or a three-player market with relief measures, Airtel is bound to grow. Further, Airtel will also benefit from the relief package that comes in for the industry. Factoring all of this, it is safe to say that Bharti Airtel's share price will indeed go up in the near term. Note that this is not investment advice, and this is not the endorsement of a stock. You should do your due diligence before investing in a stock. The brokerage said that if the government takes control of Vodafone Idea, then Airtel's share price can touch Rs 840. With two players in the market, Reliance Industries can grow by 10% as well. |
Smartphone Vendors to Face Huge Issues This Festive Season Posted: 11 Aug 2021 08:48 PM PDT Smartphone retailers will face huge issues in the coming festive season. Usually, people spend most of their money buying electronics during Dhanteras or the festive season of Dussehra and Diwali. But due to the pandemic and the snags in the supply chain of the smartphone components, it has been difficult for the companies to manufacture in the same capacity as they used to. Further, the cost of production for the companies has also increased. Chipset Shortage Isn't Going Away Any Time SoonThe online stores won't be hit as hard as the offline stores. The chipset shortage has become a global issue and isn't just limited to the Indian market. Smartphone retailers and vendors always look up to the festive season of Dhanteras, Diwali, and Dussehra to earn good money. But this time around, because of the limited stock, they might not be able to do so. The smartphone supply volume has dipped due to the low production levels. The chipset shortage has made it hard for the companies to manufacture in the volume they could pre-pandemic. Due to not being able to get the smartphone through an offline store, many people are expected to flock to online stores for purchasing. This will mean the online stores might see better days ahead than the offline stores which will be hit with supply constraints. This is not just going to affect the offline stores, but also the smartphone companies. The companies and the stores’ bank on the festive seasons to earn a major chunk of their revenues. But things won't be the same this time around. There's a high chance that the model you are looking for might not be available in the offline store but be available online on an e-commerce website. Since the time COVID-19 has come, more and more people have flocked to online stores for making smartphone purchases. The same trend is only expected to grow in the near term.
Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 Series Could Be the Dark Horse of Smartwatches Posted: 11 Aug 2021 08:08 PM PDT Samsung, during the Unpacked 2021 event, launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 5G, with the former being the first to make use of an under-display camera. During the event, Samsung also launched the Galaxy Watch 4 series of watches, consisting of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and the Galaxy Watch 4. Both of these smartwatches offer a circular dial with a minimalist design, with the Classic featuring a rotating bezel. There are some things that make these watches more than just another smartwatch, which we will discuss today. Before we begin, it is worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 comes in both Bluetooth and LTE options, with two sizes, namely 40mm and 44mm. The pricing is set at $249.99. with the watch being offered in Black and Silver. There is a Green hue exclusive to the 44mm variant, whilst the 40mm variant comes in an exclusive Pinkish Gold hue. In contrast, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is also offered in both LTE and Bluetooth options, but the sizes on offer are 42mm and 46mm, with the price set at USD 349.99 for the 42mm Bluetooth version. The watch comes in Black and Silver hues. Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 4 Classic: Features and Specifications The Galaxy Watch comes in two sizes, as mentioned earlier, with the 40mm variant featuring a 1.19-inch display with a resolution of 396*396. In comparison, the 44mm variant offers a 1.36-inch display with a resolution of 450*450. In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic variant has a 1.19-inch screen on the 42mm variant, much like the Base Watch 4, whilst the 46mm variant has the same 1.36-inch display, but the key differentiator is the rotating bezel that allows the user to navigate more easily throughout the menu. The Classic Edition also features a Stainless Steel case in comparison to the standard’s aluminium one. Performance-wise, both watches have the new W920 Exynos chip, which, as we discussed, is something that you should take note of. The processor is paired with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Battery sizes vary from watch to watch, with the 40mm and 42mm Galaxy Watch 4 featuring a 247 mAh battery, whilst the Classic watches use a 361 mAh battery. Samsung also introduced its new BioActive sensor that can do the tasks of three different health sensors, with the sensors being the Optical Heart Rate sensor, BioElectrical Impedance Analysis Sensor and ECG. There is also a feature dubbed Body Composition that provides data regarding BMI or Body Mass Index, skeletal muscle and Fat Mass. The Galaxy Watch 4 series also offer Snoring Detection, SpO2 tracking, Sleep Score, all of which are possible via a custom OneUI OS that has been developed with Google, with the smartwatch featuring both Google and Samsung apps. The Galaxy Watch 4 series claim to offer up to 40 hours of battery life, with a 30-minute charge supposedly offering 10 hours of battery life. What Sets the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Apart? All this having been said, with Samsung launching the new Exynos W920 chip and the new OneUI based OS for the watches, we could finally see Samsung properly take on the likes of Apple and other WearOS based alternatives and, if the watch is able to beat them out, at least the WearOS alternatives, it could have big implications for the smartwatch segment. It will be interesting to see how the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series performs since the quoted battery life also seems decent, but these are just numbers, and real-life data usually reveals a different picture.
JioFiber Long-Term Broadband Plans, Should You Purchase Posted: 11 Aug 2021 06:33 PM PDT Reliance Jio has been able to grow its fiber business exponentially in India due to competitive pricing and also leveraging the rise in demand for broadband connections over the pandemic. JioFiber keeps on innovating with its offers to ensure that its customers are satisfied. The company offers users the option to choose between long-term and short-term plans. If you are someone who is confused about what kind of validity you should choose with JioFiber, let me make it simple for you. JioFiber Long-Term Plans and Short Term Plans DifferenceUsually, companies offer users long-term plans with discounts. But JioFiber has taken sort of a different approach to this. Instead of offering a huge discount when users go for the annual plans, the company adds another month of service for the user. So instead of 12 months, users will be entitled to receive services for 13 months. This extra month offer is applicable on every 12 months plan of the company. Likewise, users going for the 6 months plan will get 15 days for free service from JioFiber. But there's no such offer on the quarterly (3 months) plan. There's no additional benefit offered to the users going for the long-term plans. JioFiber doesn't alter the benefits of the plan regardless of how long a user is purchasing it for. Here is how much you will have to spend on monthly, semi-annual, and annual plans from the company. If you are purchasing the 150 Mbps plan from the company, you will have to pay Rs 999 per month. When you purchase the same plan for 6 months, you will have to pay a lump sum amount of Rs 5,994. Further, when you purchase the same plan for 12 months, you will have to pay a lump sum amount of Rs 11,988. As evident, there's no major difference in the monthly cost of the plan whether you purchase it for one month, 6 months, or 12 months. But with the 6 months plan, users get an additional service of 15 days (180 days + 15 days = 195 days) and with the 12 months plan, users will get 30 days of additional service (360 days + 30 days = 390 days). So in a way, you save approximately Rs 1,000 for the one additional month you get with the 150 Mbps annual plan of the company. The higher monthly cost plans will let users save even more. The only question is, should you purchase? I would say this isn't the best offer one can get in a long-term plan in India. But, JioFiber's services are really excellent and hence there isn't any harm in purchasing the 12 months plan from the company.
